"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Wore the midnight floral dress to a wedding recently and within an hour of sitting down the side seam tore about 6 inches, exposing the lining. Ugh!

Separately and unrelated, wish j crew had an app (like zara). It would make browsing and purchasing on phone much easier and faster.

    1. My midnight floral top split at the contrasting piping at the side seam. Seems like a common issue w the contrasting piping but I was able to repair it.

    3. That's good. Mine just went back to the store :( I also have the midnight floral pants. Hope they last a little longer than the dress.

  2. Ironing one of my newish linen tees yesterday morning only to discover giant hole in underarm seam :-(

  3. I was browsing eBay last night and some of the catalog sellers actually have pictures of many pages of the catalogs, so I was flipping through the photos from 2007, 2008, etc. The styling and colors and happy models were so refreshing and pretty. I'm not even super preppy and that was never really my aesthetic, but it really brings to focus the absolute free fall of J. Crew over the last few years. I can appreciate the beauty in all of the details and colors and I know the quality was there on every piece. It made me really sad. What the heck happened?

(On a side note, I was also "flipping through" some of the listed catalogs from 1998 and 1999 and that made me sad in a nostalgic / where has the time gone way. It simultaneously feels like a long ago distant time and just yesterday. I was just graduating college and I remember all those styles and silhouettes so well. Again, happy, fresh models, though!)

  4. Made a Factory purchase earlier this morning with the 30% off Gilt promo - paid the $5 shipping. I just received a new arrivals early access email with free shipping today. I know it's only $5 but still.

  5. The factory merino sweaters all look like a merino/acrylic blend. I was waiting for a long grey one to come in, and now may wait to see what the fabric really feels like before ordering.

    1. I've noticed that lately as well. I hate acrylic - it's so cheap. I used to shop at New York & Company back in the day & all of their sweaters were acrylic. They didn't last at all, & they felt... icky, for lack of a better term.

    2. They can keep those nasty acrylic blend sweaters. Acrylic pills like crazy. Uniqlo is opening in Chicago this fall. I'll be purchasing their 100% merino sweaters instead.

Noticed most of the tees are cotton/poly. Another no thank you. Why is it so hard to make a cotton tee? J Crew and Factory used to have 100% cotton tees. Just further cheapening of the brand. The prices haven't gone down though the quality certainly has.

  6. canadian site....midnight floral dress $226.-30%....US site $60 -30%. J Crew this is just bizarre. get it together on prices please. right now they are just so unfair.

    1. Could not agree more. Why would I shop at Jcrew when I am made to feel like a second class citizen here in Canada?

    2. Yes it is insane and maddening. I bought the midi laser cut circle skirt during the 75% off sale for around $25 for canada online. Shortly after that the site switched to Borderfree. Yesterday I saw a popback of that skirt for full price of $186 Canadian - are you kidding me it was just on sale for canada but apparently not anymore.

    3. I have sent a few detailed email to J Crew regarding the huge price differences between US and Can site prices. esp. after they have been suggesting I use borderfree. I have not had one reply from them....that really ticks me off...do they not realize the HUGE disparity or do they think I am that dumb. J Crew do the math...this is a very apparent price grab.

  7. I know it's been said, but I'm really getting sick of all of the retail items being "recycled" at Factory. It's pretty much a sure bet that each rollout is primarily items we saw last year at retail.

    1. Especially lately, when the offerings weren't even good the first time around.

  9. part vent/ part OT:

CAMPBELL BLAZER IN CORDUROY (item c9118)... the caramel version shows a pop of maroon color under the collar in the model pics. but the pics for the grey and navy don't reveal what color under the collar they have nor does it mention it in the description. very annoying.

and does anyone know what color is under the navy version's collar? TIA.

  10. Somehow I am exhausted with my "jcrew affair". Endless envelopes, price adjustments, trips to stores to make returns. I am exhausted.
I think JCrew is delusional thinking I would be interested purchasing anything at 20-30% after offering 50-75% off.
    Anticipating fall arrivals, anyways.

  11. maybe this has been brought up in earlier rants, but why are so many regular items (not Collection, 3rd party, etc) --stuff that's been around for a while, for day to day wear-- excluded from promo code sales? I have 6 items in my cart and 4 are excluded from the sale. why take advantage of (or offer) any promo if so many items are excluded from it?

  12. I'd like "my" VPS to answer my e-mails and return my calls. Granted, I'm not buying much, but I'm buying even less when my questions go unanswered while the price goes up the next day. Is there a policy about not enabling sale customers? If so, it may be time to rethink this?

  13. 2 things: why does j crew not sell black shoe laces for the kids MacAlister boots? They still sell the shoes, just not the laces. The laces are terrible and ripped with barely any wear.
Also, why did they get rid of plain black ankle socks for women? They kept them in grey and white. I need black socks for work. Why is it nearly impossible to find good black socks? I don't want lines, or designs. I don't want them long. I just don't get it.
