J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. New items are up, a couple I like but nothing at full price. Wool sweaters with acrylic and nylon which I will avoid, embellished tees and sweaters, a lot of V necks which could work if they aren't too low. Maybe more will appeal to me at sale prices.

  2. Initial reaction: that was disappointing. :/

    1. Mine too. I didn't notice anything terrible, but there wasn't anything I'd order. I wanted to see what colors they came out with in the Cocoon Coat, but I didn't want any of them (like I needed another one anyway, J. Crew saved me from myself this time). The mint is pretty, but I wouldn't wear it, too light. The gold and yellow aren't good on my skin tone. I don't understand J. Crew, though. Last year's blue one sold out quickly and hardly ever popped back. The bright red ones lingered in sale forever. So they don't offer a blue one this year, but do offer a bright red one? Don't they have someone keeping metrics on things like this?

      Anyway- I'm sure I'll like some things at the store. It's hard to tell much from the web site.

    2. @cate, your point about the colors is spot on. Isn't anyone paying attention over there?

    3. I'd try on some of the new styles, but my stores hardly get any coats. J. Crew used to knock it out of the ballpark with their coats and I'm so glad I bought too many when I did, because they are just not doing it for me lately. There were a couple styles last year that were close but they had some oddity about them that kept them from being a good fit or a classic for me.

  4. I've finally made it home from a long vacation, and I was so glad to finally have a chance to try on the items I purchased during the super sale.

    I ordered each of the linen cargo skirts; @10 a pop, with the exclusion of the striped linen @22.50. Very pleased with this skirt. I read the reviews about the skirt being tight through the hips & ordered up. I could've ordered my regular size 8. Linen stretches so much, that IMO, you can go with your regular size. This skirt continues to pop back, so I'm hoping to snag the olive one at some point that was lost by UPS. How do you lose an overnight package? The skirts are very versatile & will work well with several itesm in my closet. I'm planning to wear the navy one with the striped, silk tank I ordered during the super sale, a jcrew white linen cardigan from 2012 (wish they still made these), j crew navy stripe metallic belt, & Zara stacked heel fringe sandals I just bought in Greece for $20 (OT, but why were these sandals $99 on the website and originally priced for 49 euros in the store? Even with the excchange rate, there's no explanation for this one)..

    I also purchased the old version of the tippi that was on sale in 3 colors (sweet persimmon - very nice orange color, heather acorn & shoreline); I just discovered this sweater & I really like it. The fit is tts and I like the versatility of the sweater. The lemon finally popped back in a medium, so I've ordered it too. Can't wait to wear these this fall & winter.

    I bought the circle skirt in geo brushstroke. My initial reaction was "meh," but it's grown on me; the fit is tts (size 8) and there are lots of color options i.e. red orange silk shirt I have from Vince or a chambray shirt from Cloth & Stone. I'll wear this one quite a bit, not only because of the color options, but also because I like to wear skirts. This skirt also hits right @ my knees; I'm just over 5'8".

    Purchased miscellaneous swim items; chevron print boy short, bikini and bandeau & Bantu bikini tops in the frog print and jambo. Like everything, but the Bantus are my favorites; really like the print and they're made in South Africa. I ordered up as directed on the website & they fit well. Will enjoy wearing these next summer in Mombasa.

    Finally, I purchased the tassel sandals in cognac (size 10) for $20 and the lacer cut midi circle skirt in navy (size 8) for $20. I love both. I'm not having the heel slippage issue referenced in the reviews, but you'll need to be careful with the tassels. The skirt is a "clear cut" winner as noted by the reviews. I have this skirt in both white & pink & have worn them several times; fit is tts & knee length on me. Have worn the skirt with Ferragamo spectator, peep toe slingbacks, Gap stripe peplum top from spring/summer 2015 (tucked in), "copy cat" pearl version of Dior tribal earrings and multistrand pearl necklace.

  8. Hi, I am looking for a review on the Hooded Downtown Field Jacket with Zip-Out Vest. Has anyone tried it on yet? How is the sizing? What did you think of the colors (there is a green and a blue)? Is the jacket the same fabric as the new burgundy Downtown Field Jacket? Thanks!

    2. Thank you, I look forward to hearing about it! I almost pushed Submit on it right away but couldn't decide on a color and to be honest I don't need it but it looks so cute I might get it anyway.

      I wonder if the blue is a dark blue. It's so hard to determine real colors from the web site.
