J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    10. Yes , much appreciation Operarach ♡♡♡. It's nice to see/read your most excellent reviews. I have that green sequin dress....had to size down, love it though. Jcrew does have some nice dresses out. And agree the waterfall style dress suits you xo

  2. Hooded DF jacket with zip-out vest (e0741) - The weathered spruce seemed a little more blue-green than it looked online, but I liked it anyway. I don’t own a regular DF jacket so unfortunately can’t compare in terms of fabric - this one has the outer listed as 78% cotton, 22% nylon with silicone coating.

I like this jacket but I think that the “vest” is basically a throwaway addition for an extra $80. The vest fits into the jacket by way of two front zips and a kind of weird strap/snap mechanism at the back. Personally, I would never wear the vest alone as I don’t like the V-neck and shiny fabric/contrasting trim, and it is just so thin I don’t see how it would retain any warmth. You’d probably be better off wearing a regular DF jacket over an excursion vest if you were looking for warmth.

The cut was certainly boxy, but tighter in the body and more relaxed in the arms. There were no drawstrings or tabs to give the middle any shape. All that being said, I’d probably still be interested if it went on sale + % because I liked the color and the hood so much (but by the time that happens, we’ll probably be into winter weather here). As is, I think it’s pretty overpriced.

    1. Thanks for the review! I had the same thought about wearing the vest alone, it doesn't look like it's meant for that, but I still haven't seen the item in person. I wonder if an excursion vest would zip into the outer jacket. I once tried zipping an excursion vest into a Barbour jacket but it didn't quite work. I ordered it to try, but I think it might be winter by the time I even get a shipping notice :/ Would you say it is TTS?

    2. Hi cate! I would say it's TTS to slightly small (with the vest attached). In my usual S, I could zip it up comfortably over a long-sleeved T but I don't think it would zip over a chunky sweater. However, the arms were generous (the opposite of all the skinny-arm pieces we've been seeing at JC!) and I think that if I sized up to an M, it would be borderline sloppy. I will try it without the vest over a bigger sweater and report back.

    3. Thanks silver_lining! Hm, I may have ordered too small. Stores didn't have this so had to order to try it.

    4. Thanks, silver_lining! I was wondering about this jacket! Personally would rather have the the functionality and flexibility of the regular Downtown Field (got the Deep Burgundy, love) and put the incremental $80 toward another color of the Excursion Vest.

  7. Has anyone compared the new factory puffer vests to last years version or either retail or factory. I'm liking the new factory colors but wasn't sure about pulling the trigger in case they have quality issues

  9. Good news! I just got a shipping confirmation for an order I placed on the 19th. They have upgraded the shipping to 2nd day air from SurePost. I live close so I should have it tomorrow. Maybe things are starting to ship and I will bet a lot will be upgraded so hoping for everyone else. It is a navy linen cargo skirt. I really like that skirt and was suprised that it was marked down so low. I guess a lot of people didn't like it. I think I have all four colors now. Yikes! Did I really admit to that?

    1. I just got my shipping order today too.. Mine says UPS SurePost, 6-8 days, though. When I click on tracking, a UPS label has been created. So it sounds like mine won't be delivered for a while.

      J. Crew needs to do better than this. Or get more items into the stores. I didn't order anything that wasn't mainstream that you wouldn't expect to see in the store.

    2. I still haven't received my shipping notice. I complained through email last night, and told CS that they will lose a lot of (loyal) customers if this happens often, especially with the holidays coming up.

So much hype for the two items I ordered (collection leather moto jacket and cape). It would be ironic if the jackets didn't fit me. All this waiting for nothing....

    3. I got my shipping notice this morning and the tracking information said it was in Salt Lake City, UT this morning but tonight it is Lynchburg, VA. Not good if it is on its way to Colorado. I think this is the straw the broke the camel's back for me. I keep wanting to give J Crew another chance but they don't seem to be able to get it together.

    4. Same thing here. I'm in WI, and UPS tracking says my package originated in IL, went thru the UPS processing center in WI, and is now en route to VA. Are they assuming I'll return it anyway & trying to save me the hassle of actually receiving the package?

      Delete
    5. Hah! Glad to see that's not just me. I just angrily screenshotted my tracking page to a friend and wondered if my package had just time traveled?

      Delete
    6. Mine was scheduled to be out for delivery tomorrow, btw, so I'm guessing it's just a very weird glitch.

      Delete
    7. Finally, the leather moto jacket was 'overnighted' from Roanoke, VA?? It said it was shipped today and will arrive tomorrow. They end up spending more money on shipping for their mistake. SMH

I wonder when the cape will arrive?

    8. Same thing happened to me today - earlier my order (placed on 8/18!) was in Salt Lake with a scheduled delivery of Thursday, and now it's in Lynchburg?! That's definitely the long way to Portland.

      Delete
    9. I checked tracking again today and it says it's in Front Royal, VA (I don't live near there), to be delivered tomorrow, "In Transit: On Time".

    10. JSR--My cape is coming today from USPS. I have a strong feeling that it will be too big, but I'm going to try anyway.

    11. How interesting.....so it wasn't just me waiting and waiting and waiting on deliveries. When I called I got a huge run around full of b/s excuses. One of my orders took 5 days to release and another 7 to get to me. Not one of their excuses makes up for that bad service.

  12. :: REVIEW ::

Collection Leather Motorcycle Jacket (e1781) in navy: It is a beautiful jacket, and nicely made. I can imagine why the color cassis would sell out in all sizes, because it is really that nice...so nice I'm afraid to wear it out and get it scratched.

The shoulders fit perfectly on me (I don't have broad shoulders) I ordered this in a size 0, and I think I want to exchange it for a size 2, so I can wear it with a light sweater and still feel comfortable. (I tried it on with a thick cotton long sleeve tee)

For reference I am 4'11, and a 36B. I wear between size 0/2/4 and P2 in tops and outerwear, depending on style and cut.

    Hope I've convinced you, @JRSConifer :-)

    2. Thanks for the review JSR it sounds lovely. But leather is not a good option for me in Colorado, we seem to go from summer to winter. Plus, I am so ticked off at J Crew right now over shipping, it will be a long time before I purchase online again. But enjoy the jacket, I know I bought a pair of navy suede boots last year and they are my #1 favorite item from J Crew.

    3. Hi Wendy - Oh no!! Sorry about it not working out. What's DM? Does this mean sharing a photo through email? Sorry for not knowing..hehe

  13. A few reviews.....

    J.Crew

Biella Tassel Loafers (item A9861) I am not sure if these were supposed to be part of the promo last week as the website never listed it but once I plugged the promo code in the checkout box, it took 25% off of these gorgeous shoes so I had to get them! I purchased the black and sized down from my normal 8.5 to a size 8 and they fit perfectly. The quality resembles a pair of JC Italian leather loafers I purchased in college in '99. I was pleasantly surprised. These filled a void in my heart and closet that the new Cece leather flats can't due to their decline in quality.

Perfect shirt in heather flannel dot (item C9306) I ordered my usual size 2 and it fit fine. It's cute. Haven't decided if I will keep it or not, leaning towards yes at this time. I really wish JC would go back to making button down shirts with better quality material. This isn't as thin as the Boy Shirt in Crinkle Gingham but pretty close.

    J.Crew Factory

I ordered several of the button down flannel shirts. Love the red/grey and the brilliant sea colors. My usual size small worked just fine, a tad relaxed but I prefer my flannel shirts that way.

Also received the Factory Quilted Jacket in navy blue (item E2004). I was really excited to see this online but not as pleased in person. The jacket is really well made as far as quality goes. It was thicker and warmer than expected and had quality zippers and buttons. That is excellent. It does seem to run a bit small though. I ordered my usual size small and would probably order a medium if I intended to keep it. The small was snug with a t shirt on and wouldn't be very comfortable with a sweater beneath it. The downfall to this jacket it that fact that it's very shapeless. Quite boxy and something about the collar is uncomfortable. I felt like it was constricting around the neck and the collar doesn't stay down if folded over. I was interested in Barbour quilted jacket and was hoping this might be a cheaper alternative but I may just splurge on the Barbour as this jacket just missed the mark for me.

  15. I got the Hooded Downtown Field Jacket (E0741) today. It's TTS (I was worried I should have sized up, but my normal size was fine). I wasn't impressed. It didn't seem like the Downtown Field Jacket. I tried on the Burgundy one in the store and it was a nice heavy weight with a waxy finish. The hooded version isn't as heavy/substantial. The fabric is 72% cotton, 28% nylon, and I think it said it has a silicone coating. It basically feels like a rain jacket that may or may not keep you dry. There is no horizontal back band and no snap side tabs. The hood snaps off, which I think is a nice feature. The vest could be worn by itself but it is much thinner than the Excursion vests. It has top-entry pockets, which are nice. I don't think I would wear it by itself, but you could, it's presentable. There is nothing wrong with it, and the colors are nice, but it just feels like more of a light-weight raincoat.

I also got the Boyfriend Shirt in Rockport Plaid (C9826). This is really nice, definitely a keeper.

  16. Popped into my B&M today to return the hooded DF jacket and tried on a few things. Sale was an additional 30%.

Majesty peacoat (c8554) - Fit TTS, but the combination of the wide lapels and four pockets on the front bulked me up a bit. Also, the flaps on the pockets at chest-level kind of jutted out when the jacket was closed (notice how there are no pictures of the model wearing it closed?). I had hoped to spring for a navy Majesty this year but the new one is just not cute on me. Fabric was nice, though.

Placed-stripe t-shirt (c9625) - This is one of those that I could tell was going to be too short just by looking at it. Fabric was nice and thick, but it was too small all over in my usual S. Didn’t have time to try a M and probably wouldn’t bother because I didn’t love the placement of the stripes. IMO, JC’s got better striped shirts out this season.

Boyfriend shirt in Rockport plaid (c9826) - TTS, liked the cut and the soft flannel. The background is more beige than it appears online and did not look good with my coloring. This was a bummer - if it was white or more ivory like the online pick I would’ve been tempted!

Garment-dyed pocket t-shirt (e4964) - I thought this was great, and probably the closest thing JC has done to an Everlane tee (though a bit thinner). However, I could get 3 Everlane tees for the price of one of these JC tees. If these went on sale I may get a few but it looks like they’re being treated as a specialty item for the time being.

  17. I had an order arrive this week (took the full 8 days) with the Silk Zip Tank Top (C9136) and the Gemma Leopard Flats (E0227).

I got the silk top in the pink shade. A little see-through, fine with a nude smooth bra. Silk felt nice. The zipper worked well for me in a way that the button up versions don't always - no gaps. I intend it to wear tucked or with a cardi over -- it otherwise was a little shapeless when I turn sideways. 5'7, 150lbs, 36DD and usually take a 10 in tops and dresses -- same here. I would say true to size. Decided to keep it.

The Gemma Leopard flats are the second pair of Gemmas I purchased (got the glitter ones a few weeks ago). These are also great - no breaking in needed, wore them for 9 hours at work the first day with no issues at all. They are very flattering on my wider foot (usually 7.5W in shoes, and was a 7.5 with these) and the tapered pointed toe looks so nice with skirts. Very happy with these, and considering the black ones with my rewards card if nothing grabs me from the 9/14 rollout.
