J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Got to a B&M for the first time in a while.

Sunday slim chino (c9402) - In my usual 4, I couldn’t find anything “slim” about these. The rise felt low and the legs were baggy. Honestly, they felt like the same cut as previous iterations of the JC chino, none of which ever really worked for me. I think that these would need more of a mid-rise and a slimmer leg in order to look like the pictures online. They were really soft but also quite thin. I do better in a utility-type pant.

Polka-dot Tippi with shoulder buttons (e2162) - I thought the midnight dahlia was really cute, TTS, liked the shoulder buttons. The dots are a bright pinky-orange, and the background is more of a true navy (maybe they’re calling it “midnight” now and reserving “navy” for their navy-black?). I’d like to grab this one at some point.

Always chambray shirt (c9310) - The color seemed very close to the chambray pocket shirt (c1159) and chambray shirt (b2549) from the past year. Those were definitely oversized and this one felt more like a dress shirt that you would layer over, rather than under. My usual 4 fit exactly which had me thinking it may shrink in the wash. If I had the need for this shirt, I would probably size up.

Deck-striped tee (a1143) - Despite the dropped shoulders I actually liked this one, and have no idea why it didn’t make me feel like a linebacker when all other dropped shoulders do. This is going to be one of those where you want to size down but then the arms may be too tight. My usual S was a better fit. Fabric is exactly like the oversize stripe long-sleeve tee (b5902) from last year, so be careful when laundering. I would lay this flat to dry and then give it a quick spin in the dryer on low to soften it up.

Slim selvedge broken-in boyfriend jean in Vincent wash (b7741) - I tried my usual 28 and 27. The 27 felt so much smaller that I wonder if it was mis-sized. The wash also looked very different between the two - much yellower/dingier in the 27 and very yellowed across the backside. If the distressing weren’t in the exact same place, I’d swear they were different items altogether. The 28 was more comfortable but very bunchy in the crotch. These are odd, and I can see why there’s almost a full size run left at $100 off. At least they were all cotton.

    3. That dress with the zippers looked fantastic on you, OperaRanch.

    4. @operaRach, I agree the dress with zippers looks great on you, so flattering! I didn't like the zippers on the sleeves when I saw it in store but didn't really notice it in your pics. It reminded me of the teddy dress I have in blue but this one looks more flattering shape wise.

  4. Crystal Brulee earrings (rose gold) from new rollout: I ordered these to get over the $150 free ship line on my otherwise heavily discounted haul. These are very odd earrings - the crystal is surrounded by a large white plastic collar that almost looks like it is there for protection during shipping. When ordering, I thought that the collar was silver tone, though now that I look at the photo online more carefully I see that it is white. There is an unusual warning in the online description that says the rose gold color wears off and that the earrings do not come with a bag - but mine came with a bag and I can't see what part of the earring would cause color transfer. I couldn't return these fast enough.

Thankfully the rest of my order was terrific despite final sale. Hard to beat blue Andie shorts for $8.75!

    1. I suspect they meant that the white setting is susceptible to color transfer from a dark jewelry bag. They had that sort of warning on the white necklace this summer.

  5. I am wearing the dot dash ikat shirt today. I really like this shirt. I had to size up one size but it is really soft and comfortable. I got mine when they had 50% off but I see all sizes are left online and the reviews weren't that great. I beg to differ, it is a very neutral type shirt that almost reminds me of a stripe and can be mixed with lots of stuff.

  6. Can anyone comment on the Factory puffer vests vs the Retail Excursion vests? I just ordered two of the Factory vests on promo but I am wondering if I should snatch up a few of the regular retail vests instead. Is one crazy warmer over the other? Thanks in advance!

    1. I can't tell a lot of difference in warmth. Per the tags (this is from previous seasons, so may have changed), retail vests have minimum 70% down fill whereas factory has a minimum of 60% down fill (remainder is waterfowl feathers). HTH!

    2. I dont own either vest, but i felt both of them.
The retail one feels softer and nicer than the factory one.

    1. Thanks for the reviews. RPhD. I wore the Soft Lame Shirtdress to a party on Saturday night, love this dress. So comfortable, love the pockets, got compliments on it. I paired it with an old pair of J Crew sandals but was going to wear it with either a gold or calf hair pair of J Crew flipflops that I had, also old..Made in Italy.

    2. JRSConifer: I agree, that dress is gorgeous! I am considering wearing mine for the first day of school. I know that I will be wearing the dress repeatedly! And, you're welcome! Have a terrific Tuesday!

  8. I hunted high and low and finally found factory skirt C4092 in the mixed stripe. Got it today and it is very nice quality, fits TTS and love the combination of colors in the stripes. It even has a burgandy stripe that will take me into late summer and early fall. It has pockets as well which I love. If you can find one, get it! I think you will love it.

    1. DD - I bought this skirt on the preview day it came out, I wanted it so badly! However, the one time I tried to wear it I HATED it on me & I had already taken off the tags! I'm glad you like yours so much. I'm perplexed as to what to wear it with, honestly. I might just try to unload it on Poshmark. Sadface.

    2. I am going to wear mine with a crisp white shirt (or chambray) tucked in and denim jacket just buttoned at the waist, all J.Crew of course and a large crystal statement necklace. I think it needs a more fitted top. I also have some marina mini wedge espadrilles from a couple seasons ago in chambray that I think will look really cute or I have the brown evie mid heel sandal or maybe the gold braided gladiators from this year. I usually don't do well with fuller skirts but the longer length makes it doable for me.

    3. I bought this skirt when it first came out and have already worn it a few times. I've worn it with a fitted navy tee and the embroidered lace tank in navy from jcrew from last summer. I don't find many things at factory that I really like but I find this skirt very comfortable and easy to wear since it is cotton, has pockets and is machine washable. Plus it is easy to move in which is great with my toddler and baby. My only complaint is that the hook and eye above the zipper broke after 1 wear (the 'eye' part thread came out). The exact same thing happened to my factory patio skirt in burnout linen pattern that I bought in June. After one wear the hook and eye broke.

    4. Thanks for the styling suggestions, ladies! I tried it with chambray & didn't like it. I tried it with a thin short-sleeved navy sweater & didn't like it. It might just be my body type - after two c-sections it's tricky to pull off a tucked-in look. (My addiction to carbs doesn't help, either.)

  14. Marble print cap sleeve top- I took the same size as I did in the midnight floral cocoon top (I usually am a 0 or 2 in tops like this and took a 0). I really like the print and the fit was fine (the v wasn't too low on me) but I didn't like the feel of the poly and felt that it made it look cheap. I wish they would've done silk or cotton. I really don't understand the price as it's more US than the silk midnight floral cocoon top was (which I paid full price for since it seemed fairly reasonable for a lovely print in silk). But even more insane is the online Canadian price of $160 for a poly top. I would consider it on super sale because I love the print even though in my head I kept thinking how cheap the material looked.

Sleeveless Flounce dress - this too is 100% poly (although the online description said twill) but felt nice. I love the red color and took my normal XS in dresses but found the v too low for me without a cami and it was also a little loose under the arms. The bottom half of the dress was a little more snug/less flowing than the model shots so I tried sizing up to see if it would be more 'flowing' but it was just too big all around. I would stick to the XS just not sure if a cami ruins the look.

    1. You look fab in that Lamé dress, Audrey. I like how you paired it with the leopard mid-heels.

I was disappointed to see for myself the polka dot Tippi. Too sheer for me. Couldn't they use a thicker weave of merino?? I think that sweater would sell out fast if it wasn't thin.
