J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are 200+ new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

As mentioned by several JCAs, J.Crew posts images of the newest catalog over at Pinterest (click here to view).

My top two picks are outerwear related...
I adore the Cape Jacket in Wool Melton (item C8558; $250.00). I have a thing for capes and this one is a real stunner. Wishlisted!

There is something about the Collection collarless V-neck wrap coat (item C8577; $398.00) that catches my eye. I don't know if the collarless aspect makes this a trendier piece, but it is quite beautiful. By the way, I don't care for the wool coat paired with shorts look. Really? Not this again. ;)

Promotion Time! J.Crew is offering customers to take an additional 30% off sale with promo code GREATSALE. This offer expires August 23, 2015. They are also offering free shipping on all orders placed today!

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. That cape though! Love! Love! Love! I ordered it in both colors.
Alexis, I want to be with you on the collarless V-neck coat, but it seems too impractical to me. I'd probably ruin the lines of it wearing a scarf to keep my neck from being too exposed.

    1. Boden actually has a cape that is way cuter than Crew's.

  2. I visited the store yesterday and saw a bunch of the new stuff in person, and I'm loving a ton! First time in a long time I've been this excited about the rollout.

    Some of my faves:
    - Faux Leather Pocket Shift Dress (e2099)
    - Perforated Drapey Crepe Dress -- what beautiful long lines it has! (e3834)
    - Cap Sleeve Dress in Donegal Wool (e1111)
    - Ruffle Hem Dress in Italian Wool Crepe (c9468)
    - Wool Zip Pencil Skirt (c8804) -- the leather zip version looks like it runs super small
    - Colette Cracked D'Orsay Heels (e0813)
    - ALL of the flower stone jewelry pieces, especially the necklace (e3521)

This might be the first month in a couple of years where I set aside my entire monthly spending budget for a major J.Crew haul. I'm feeling so good about this rollout, I just hope the fit is there!!

  3. Better maybe than a few recent rollouts, but overall, I"m disappointed. Lots of poly again. I think Mickey Drexler needs to pick up a catalog from, say, 2008, and look at the difference. Rich fall colors, natural fibers, coherent line. I know that this rollout likely came from the Tom Mora era, but it's still disappointing. There are a couple of interesting items, but there used to be too many that called out to be bought. There will be lots of sales, but I was excited to buy, and now that I've seen it, I'm no longer that excited.

    1. I agree with you. I started wearing J.Crew in 2007, and I'm seen a huge shift in the direction of the line. I miss the days of the preppier items, critter shorts, and quality knits.

That being said, there are a few items I'm interested in -- the blue/white buffalo check Excursion vest, the collection standing collar leather jacket in tan, the collection motorcycle leather jacket in cassis, and the lace button down tops.

I'll have to check out my CS to see what's in.

    2. I completely agree. I do love the cape, it reminds me of one from Ted Baker. You hit the mark though with your comment about not being a coherent line. And SO much poly. I was always a fan of the shoes, and other than the overpriced Dulci heels there is nothing for me. I miss the days of getting the fall catalog and tagging every page!

    3. I completely agree. It's all very boring and bland. When will we see the stand-out items from Fashion Week?

  4. Well, mixed reviews on the rollout from me. There's lots of interesting leather and that is a bit of a departure. I do love the cape and would happily buy it if I lived somewhere cool enough to wear it! WAY WAY WAY too much polyester. The perforated crepe drapey dress, off my list. The inverted pleat A line dress, off my list. The drapey v neck sheath dress, which I love, off my list. What is with all this polyester?? The two collection dresses are wonderful fabric of course. Oddest item award goes to the collection lure brooch sweatshirt. A number of the new skirts caught my eye. I can't wear the heavier wools for more than a couple of days so I don't buy but I do admire. I don't get the beaded skirts though. Has anyone ever tried to sit in a beaded skirt? As for shoes, I think they may be trying a little too hard to make them interesting. Sometimes a girl needs a black leather pump.

    1. I LOVE the drapey v neck sheath dress. Perfect for work. BUT poly so want to see it in person/try it on. Also intrigued by the donegal wool. I wishlisted a lot of stuff but nothing I have to have. Do love the collection collarless v neck wrap coat and the collection graphic peony dress but both items are out of my price range and will probably sell out before they go on sale.

    2. The lures! So funny, fly fishing themed clothes, probably are unique, anyway!

      Delete
    3. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the fishing lure stuck on the sweatshirt. For almost $200CAN.

I'm very disappointed to see so much polyester...even the "Donegal Wool" dress is a wool/poly blend.
I was hoping they'd be turning things around with the fabrics this roll-out.

I do like that cape and the wrap coat. I'll be curious to read reviews.

      Delete
    4. And the BEST part, they say - it's removable! Nice, so I'm paying over a hundred dollars for a regular sweatshirt. With a lure pinned on. Really?

    1. I totally agree with you. And you know what I love? Full disclosure - a preview on the site, along with the price and a fabric the item is made of.
No fake build up of anticipation, only to discover that half of teh stuff is an overpriced poly.
100% lambswool - 39 bucks, 100% wool - 49! You know, at the crew there would be a 1 on front of those prices.

      Delete
    2. Yes, exactly. I really appreciate the fabric + price disclosure. And they're very reasonable prices, too! I can't wait for those pieces to come out.

    3. That's a good tip. That line does look great. I have some Heattek tops from Uniglo and they are fantastic. Might have to order something else like a jacket and skirt from them this fall.

    4. Funny... I bought a new sweater there over the weekend during their free ship. Love their colors.

    5. I think I've seen in the industry press that J. Crew is losing some share specifically to Uniqlo. They must be doing something right!

      Delete
    6. Yup, yup Ruffles. In the beginning of this year, JC was seeking a merger with Uniqlo; apparently Uniqlo walked away. Uniqlo was seeking a partner to expand in the US, wait when they do it. As if JC needed another competitor! :)
There was plenty of business-related articles re: this.

  6. I love: Cape Jacket - so beautiful, not sure I can pull it off.
Suede D'Orsay loafer flats - I'm not a big fan of fringe, but these are so cute.
Watercolor floral print - dress, skirt, boy shirt and the cami.
    Ruffle Hem dress
    Tweed Sweater-jacket and pullover
Graphic Peony print - breathtaking print, imo.

  7. I'm also a fan of the cape, but like maryeb, unsure if I'd be able to pull it off! The green donegal wool shift and pencil skirt caught my eye - such a lovely deep shade of green, but I'd want to see the wool in person before buying.

  8. Nothing special online but I am the type of person who needs to see things in person to really like them so once I go to the store I might like things more. The button down with the pink and swirls looks cute though so maybe I will get it once it goes on sale.

  9. I like the cape. Probably will wait to see how I feel about it in a month. I'm "tidying" (that's the nice way of saying I'm completely purging and redesigning my wardrobe) to the goal of a minimalist closet. I want to try on the merino turtleneck sweater to see how tight the neck is. I could use a couple of those if they don't suffocate me. Otherwise, it all looks the same to me. Nothing new or exciting enough to run to the store and try things on.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I was inspired - to go back to EBay and pull the trigger on a green donegal tweed jacket with collar, nice lining, and leather buttons.

As to the JC rollout, the silk prints looked like possibilities, also like spring shipments that arrived late.

    1. The Metallic tweed jacket (e1640) caught my eye until I saw that it's all poly with metallic threads. :(

  13. So. Much. Polyester.

The leather jackets are nice, but the starting price points are high. I'm leary of the quality. Based on the reviews on some of the leather goods (purses) on the site, I can totally see seams coming undone and stitches fraying.

The Collection Graphic Peony Short Sleeve Dress is quite lovely in a wool silk blend. I'll try on one of those new blazers (Rhodes), but honestly, unless there's some more "inspired" colors released, I'm not really interested.

Meh. A couple of things made it to my wishlist, but when I went back to see what I had put there, I realize there's absolutely nothing I *have-to-have.* Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hmmm. I like the cape, but don't think I'd wear it enough to justify a purchase (I really don't have that many fabulous places to go - ha). The graphic peony print is pretty but doesn't read very fall to me - and it feels like every other large, floral print J.Crew has produced in the last two years. Tons of poly, the sweaters are awful. The entire aesthetic is all over the place and borderline schizophrenic (a camel wool cape rolled out with a pastel watercolor pull-on short?) A lot of these items seem like they were meant for April but accidentally got missed...
My only likes are the cape, the double-cloth collarless coat in warm redwood (that color!) and the boyfriend flannel in rockport plaid.
Seriously J.Crew. I may be a little grump today, and it's a rainy/gloomy day, but this is getting ridiculous.

  15. *shrug* Not terribly excited about the new arrivals, but maybe I'll change my mind after seeing JCAs style them. I did take advantage of the free shipping to pick up a couple of basics from the sale section: black trouser socks for $2 and a white linen perfect shirt for $28. Hope they ship!

  16. I love the Collection collarless V-neck wrap coat, but I'm disappointed that the cocoon coat isn't offered in that wonderful blue color from last year that quickly disappeared from the website. I watched the website everyday and that coat never appeared in my size in that color. I called CS and they told me there would be more but it never happened. Also, I'm having a hard time discerning the true color of certain items. The rustic grey of the Shiny downtown field puffer jacket does not look like the catalog pic. The same can be said of spiced nutmeg color for the same jacket. Other than that, I like the Tippi lace sweater. There's always a new rollout so I assume I will find more to like eventually.

  17. I was interested in the trench jumper in olive, because it's offered in petite, but it's poly 😩 whyyyy??!??? Poly fabric creates a lot of static during fall/winter. No bueno.

I ordered the Melton cape jacket in camel, collection moto jacket in navy. I hope it fits, considering both are not petite. Also ordered the Robertson Kiss tee and Stripe boatneck (to replace the Deck stripe), that's backorder all the way in October??

  21. Like the collarless vneck coat that's referenced in initial post, but @ $400 + tax, I don’t want my wool mixed with anything. At this price point, I expect 100% wool; this pricing is creeping into Helmut Lang and Vince price points. Those brands would offer this coat in all wool, so if I’m going to spend the money, then I can go elsewhere.

Really like the silk pocket blouse in cherry; the reviews, however, are very mixed. Apparently, this is new is a new release of an oldie since reviews are from 2014?
Collection graphic peony dress; this dress is nice, but it’s not a fall piece for me. Wish this would’ve shown up in the spring/summer; if it goes on super sale, I’ll buy and wear in Spring 2016.

Collection sleeve leather jumpsuit; love the color, but again, I would only buy this on sale. It’s not very practical and would’ve been much better as separates i.e. Anthropologie has a pair of suede culottes that are super cute. @ $800, this is not worth it for me since this would be “play wear” only & not something I’d wear to the office.

From the August style guide, there are some options I like: tippi in heather chocolate; I just discovered this sweater and really like it (have ordered 4 of the older style in fun colors.) The iridescent envelope clutch is nice. But, this looks like spring, so would love to snag it at some point, on sale, for use in 2016. Warm sepia Jackie cardigan and the lace cutout skirt (similar repeat of spring 2015) in the red.

Finally, was hoping to see some skirts in merino wool; hopefully that comes later as I bought a very nice gray one last year and would like to have others colors. I like these pieces because I can mix and match them with items I have from other brands, but style still looks cohesive.

    1. I politely disagree on coat pricing. Last year, the Vince wool coats were between the $900 and $1200 price point. Not saying that $400 is cheap but not comparable with the brands you mention.

      Delete
    2. Ema, thanks for your response. Not sure which Vince coats you're referencing. The wool drape coat is available now @ Nordstrom & Vince.com) for $675; with Vince Friends & Family or other promotions (Nordstrom will price match), you can purchase the coat for just over $500 or even less. The pricing was comparable during Fall 2014.

    3. More than apparent than for many seasons now, JC has the aspirations of the designers from the upscale department stores. Price-ways, because the quality is lacking.

  22. I only really like the military trench coat that is in pre-order but it looks very lightweight so not much of a season for it in the NE. Especially for $300 and a ship date of mid-September... Plus I have the Icon that must be the same weight.
I was hoping for a twist on the Majesty peacoat, like silver-toned buttons instead of the usual gold. I regret a bit not buying last year's on sale at the end of the season but maybe they will come out with something else in later rollout.

    1. Thanks for reviewing so many items! Do you think getting the tweed sweater jacket in a petite xs would work, rather than a regular xxs? The sleeves look a bit too long too. I'd really like this as a more fitted jacket and I love the tweed.

    2. @maryeb i think the petite could work because the whole jacket was seriously oversized !

  25. Love the outerwear - this is one area that seems to be showing significant improvement (that cape!). The sweaters are so meh for THE sweater season of the year ... c'mon J. Crew. I won't pay J Crew prices for poly and poly blends so those items are out for me.

I like the colors of the Graphic Peony print but it's the same old large floral they come out with every season. I'm tired of the formulaic striped-shirt-plus-large-scale-floral-of-the-month-bottom.

Any thoughts on the Rhodes blazer? looking forward to checking those out in person.

    2. I agree about the peony print. They're doing a version of it every season and I don't like any of them (and I normally like florals). Their prints used to be so good. I'm not a fan of the color scheme of this rollout either, the deep orange-red, pinks, and yellows.

I was also wondering about the Rhodes blazer, whether the collar was meant to stand up or if it folds down.

      Delete
    3. It looks like the collar folds down @cate from the stock photos online.

      Delete
    4. @ruffles and @cate--I saw the Rhodes blazer today at my store. It's very well made and yes, the collar folds down. I cerise looks more like an orangey red than a blue based red. The camel looks like the stock photo.

  26. Thanks, Wendy, I didn't note the Rhodes is online only. It's on my wish list for now.

Cate, totally agree on the colors. Gayle Spannaeus says the colors of the season are canary yellow, cobalt, and camel? Bleah. Yellow and camel are very hard to wear and cobalt blue is so 1992. No thanks.

  28. Went to my store today and tried on the silk drapey top (E2750) in dusty petal and Brunswick blue. I had ordered petal using the old 30% off code last night but wasn't sure if it was solid so I tried both on - PASS on the pink, it shows every little thing you're wearing. Blue was gorgeous (uploaded a photo here), wish I had taken a pic of it tucked in because it gave that perfect flowy look. Took my normal 00. I had planned on wearing the pink for our upcoming engagement shoot but will wear the blue instead with a white midi A-line, I think. Store said I could bring the petal in and even exchange for the blue, unfortunately even though my order hasn't shipped yet CS couldn't change it.

    Also bought:
    - the deck stripe tee in gray/black in my standard XXS (pic) on promo in store for 25% off, not included in promo online though. I'm a grad student so student ID discount was also honored for ~$31 total, they will stack and honor educator discount too.
    - the new Tippi in garnet flame in XS (pic); I was pleasantly surprised! I have several old Tippis and would size two up to S for a slouchy fit, the shoulders fit weird in XS even for me. I actually prefer the new Tippi fit in XS. All sleeves get rolled eventually for me so the sleeve length ultimately makes no difference personally. On promo 69.50 in my store and student discount honored for final price of ~60, equivalent to 25% off promo.
    - the Toothpick Jean in grey dove, took a 24. I am all over in Crew jeans so can't comment on accuracy. Can't believe I didn't take a pic with these and the blue silk top because they looked GREAT together. I feel like I'm actually a 24.5 in these lol. Meanwhile, I tried on the black wash and could barely get a 26 to zip. Yikes. I am bigger in my thighs compared to the rest of my body so it's always a guessing game when I pick what to try on. Tried the 25 but I SWEAR they were shorter than the others and also bunched at the knees, so I'll squish into the 24 until they stretch. 25% off in store plus student discount honored for ~$80 final price.

Sorry, I know this wasn't the review thread but hoping this helps someone. Unless the jeans were new, I'm not sure I actually walked out with any new stuff today LOL. Oh well. Silk top counts, right?

    2. Just stopped by a B&M. The silk drapey top is a total win. Also surprising for me was the cropped patio pant. Super comfortable and fit great on. Cape was really nice but not practical in my opinion so I passed. Also bought the structured knit dress.

Also tried on the cap sleeve dress in donegal wool but it was a pass for me. The red/pink color kind of washed me out. I liked the green better online but it wasn't in store to try on.

EShim, yes, kind of nervous that the blue will be OOS by the time the pink comes in. SA said it should be fine but they don't tend to carry many 00. I'm interested in seeing the brown, it was the only color my store didn't carry.

It looks like a comfortable, elegant top.

    7. The v neck is not too low - no cami required! Well maybe for the colors that are see through? Super comfortable - would look good with jeans or with a pencil skirt or even suit/work pants. I paired it with the patio pant tucked in.

Thanks, RJ. Your reviews are helpful. I was debating about what color to try in the Silk Drapey top. Although lately JCrew's v-necks have all been too low for me - showing my bra too low.

      Delete
    9. maryeb, I think you would be fine without one (although I'm not particularly busty). In the pic it's pulled about as low as it'll go. Would wear a cami with light colors though because it will show the outline of your undergarments. I don't like lower Vs and this top was fine with me.

  29. What in the world has JCrew done to the Majesty Peacoat? I was so looking forward to getting a new peacoat this year, but I'm worried that the FOUR pockets will look ridiculous on me. I suppose I'll have to trek to the store to try it on. If the cocoon coat came in that new dusty ginger color, I might consider it, but the colors it's available in leave me feeling meh.

  30. I’m confused - wasn’t the blue/white buffalo check vest at Factory last year? Are we going backwards now? ; )

No must-haves for me this time around. I see the Majesty peacoat looks quite different (that second model “action shot”…how does that help determine fit?) and wonder if they fixed the loosely secured button issue in last year’s reviews. Will wait to see some reviews of this new model.

Also, they brought the Saturday pant (one of my favorites) back, but now they’re… linen? For September?

    1. Thanks silver_lining; those Saturday pants are so cute, but to your point, why create linen pants now? I'm wondering, as others have speculated, if some of the "new arrivals" didn't make production in time for spring & summer? I'll definitely buy them, after they go on sale, as I think they're a great basic for casual wear and travel.

    2. Ha, Dmitri-I liked a lot at 75% off :) I thought the same thing about reducing the price. It seems ludicrous to try and sell the sweater they used as a scapegoat for $75. You'd think they'd move it to factory if they weren't going to drop the price. It will be interesting to see how the witness protection program (I.e. Name change) and mysteriously positive four-star reviews fare for the Tilly this season.

  33. Also, forgot to mention this earlier, but in my B&M they were honoring the online prices. Like the structured knit dress was on promo for $118, which they honored. Also gave me an additional 10% off the full price items for simply giving them my email which was a nice surprise.

  34. Weird Question, I accidentally threw out the ankle strap from a pair of shoes (which have never stepped outside but are a couple years old...I found this strap was like what is this too small for a watch strap and I threw it out- days later I figure out what it was when I couldn't wear my shoes!!!!) anyways- do you think Jcrew could replace them or both??? maybe from another style?

    1. I would call and ask. I ordered the Boutinerre Blazer and the Boutinerre was missing. I called CS and they said they will see what they can do. Weeks pass and I had forgotten about. Then one day, a package came and it was the missing Boutinerre! So call and tell them your story. You never know.

  35. Hi, I am looking for a review on the Hooded Downtown Field Jacket with Zip-Out Vest. Has anyone tried it on yet? How is the sizing? What did you think of the colors (there is a green and a blue)? Is the jacket the same fabric as the new burgundy Downtown Field Jacket? Thanks!

    2. This isn't about the Downtown Field Jacket, but it's about the Cocoon Coat. I sent an email to CS asking if the CC will be offered in any other colors. I also asked about the blue color that was offered last winter. Here's the response:

"I don't see that we'll be offering the coat in any blue tones this season, but I'll be glad to let our Design team know you'd like to see that color again. Do you remember the name of it? I see that we've offered the colors Navy and Regal Blue (similar to Royal Blue) in the past. Once I hear back from you, I'll pass your suggestion along."

I found the name of the color (heather twilight) by using Google, and sent this info. to CS. They always talk about their color library so I was surprised to receive a message asking the name of last year's blue tone. Perhaps it disappeared from their archives as quickly as the actual coat disappeared from the website?

    3. Hi st, I've watched the Cocoon coat for a few seasons now and I'm pretty sure I've never seen them add colors once they've released the initial colors. You are right about the color name. It's one of the nicest colors I've seen them do, and they've never heard of it, very strange. It was only one year ago.

  36. Question JCAs, has anyone received a shipping notice on any orders they placed for new arrivals? I saw the vent posts about shipping delays from orders the week before.

    1. Hi JRSConifer - yes, I ordered the hooded field jacket on Tuesday and got a shipping notification this morning. HTH!

    2. JRSConifer - I finally saw RELEASED on a Factory order placed on 8/14 and *still* no tracking number.

A truck carrying new arrivals broke down and was unable to meet a connecting truck. As a result, new arrivals were late to my store. Given similar issues they've had over the past year, I keep wondering if they're using cheap (read: unreliable) transportation. I don't know if that's a factor in this case because you think UPS would just show up to pick up shipments from the warehouse and get them on their way.

    3. Thanks ladies. I did call J Crew and they gave me the 6-8 working days speech. They said they think I should receive by 8/25 latest 8/28.

    4. I ordered online Tuesday 1am EST, still haven't received confirmation on the moto jacket and the cape. It's bad enough that its USPS, but that it takes longer for packages to arrive to SF! Wish they had Zappos' shipping service *sigh*.

    7. JRSConifer - My Factory order from last week's Early Access just shipped yesterday. Tracking shows the package will arrive tomorrow/Friday. I'm guessing all the latest orders from Factory and Retail will be 2-3 day shipping to meet the 6-8 working days.

  37. Slightly off topic, though since many of us have been bemoaning the plethora of polyester in this and other rollouts (and other retailers), some may find this interesting reading. I was struck by the realization that it is actually made from a non renewable resource - petroleum - and essentially plastic. I've always been opposed to polyester but that was more because it doesn't feel good and doesn't breathe in the heat. Now I have another reason to dislike it. I'm officially swearing off of it for good.

    3. Thanks for sharing the link.

When I shop, and don't recognize the fabric, I always check the label. It became a habit. I want to know what fabric it is.

I don't like polyester. I own a button up tuxedo blouse from JCrew that I bought last fall season. I've worn it to a couple job interviews...geez, you were right..I was sweating in it. It's not breathable. So uncomfortable. Wish all retailers using it would stop making it.
