JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I recently purchased the Peacoat Popover on eBay. It's not something you can take on and off easily, but that's not really an issue; I bought it mostly with trips to the farmers market and chilly ferry rides in mind.

However, I'm not sure how to style it. It's a very vibrant red, and I'm having trouble figuring out what I can wear it with besides jeans. I've tried it with a skirt, but it's a little too marching band with the large gold buttons. Black and white look great with it, but that's more formal a look than what I'm going for.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    1. Try a monochromatic look with red cords. Here's a link http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/clothes-pants-cords/28162022.jsp?cm_sp=Fluid-_-28162022-_-Regular_10

    2. I find that shades of grey always tone down red nicely, maybe try that on the bottom (or multiple shades with a scarf or hat as well)? Try camel too. Or cords in black/white/dark blue/tan shouldn't look too dressy.

  2. Styling with the Nolita Denim Jacket In Indigo and Darby Printed Loafers here :)

FYI- I normally wear size 4 and small at J.Crew, I had size up to Medium for this denim jacket.

  3. Come on, JCA WIFFY! If anyone sees the beaded tweed schoolboy in 6 or 8, will you put it on hold under Gigi?

    3. I bought this blazer during the 40% off and omg it is DIVINEEEE! I always ask via chat about store stock for sale items - they'll do it for you while reps on the phone will not.

  5. I bought the schoolboy blazer in glen plaid because it looked so awesome and British. It's a nice thick tweed in navy and silver grey, although I've cheated and worn it with a black dress and you couldn't really tell. Can anyone give me some suggestions? With jeans is easy - I'm more stumped on how to make it work for business casual.

    1. Liz, I have that schoolboy, too. I have worn it with grey pants, light blue dress shirt or light blue keeper chambray shirt, and a blue/grey/orange/gold necklace from Francesca's. Hope this helps. :-)

  6. Liz- how about with black Minnies and a white shirt? Also it would be good with the scalloped min in balck and maybe the green too. Also, depending on your office aesthetic, the green zipper mini. Try it with black or navy wool café capris or eaton boy trousers with any of swiss dot blouses- navy or even the ivory/black one. It would look great with any shade of denim shirt or even the black and white check boy shirt or classic shirt in blue and white stripe. It also looks good with a deep, dark purple shade -last year there was a great Tippi and Jackie in this shade... hope this helps!

  7. Some outfit inspirations on my blog (http://ebelandi.com/category/outfit-inspirations/) I recently played with the peplum tee and an old BR back zipper skirt, received a lot of compliments so you may want to try the long zipper effect. Almost give the illusion of the Victoria Beckham long zipper dress effect..with a peplum. Let me know what you think.

  8. I just discovered Polyvore recently and have spent WAY too much time creating outfits from my closet. My member name is "j-dubs" if anyone is looking for ideas :)

Also, if anyone sees the Madewell Bootlegger Jeans in azure wash in size 26/32 or 26/34, PLEASE let me know! I have size 25/32 if anyone wants to trade.

  9. Has anyone tried the boys Fair Isle sweater in Emerald? I am wondering if a size 14 in a boys style, would actually work for me. I usually float between a small and medium in sweaters, and am wondering if there is any way in hell this will fit! No idea if the crewcuts boys stuff really runs true to size. Why did they not make this sweater for adults?????
