J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Thanks Closet Crisis--I'm trying to figure out my size on the Martinas. How small do you think that they are--do you think they are a full half size small as JC says? For example, I consider my usual size a 7 but I can sometimes wear a 6.5 and I never, ever wear a 7.5. Do you think I should go up a half size from my usual?

      Delete
    2. Hexicon: I sized up a 1/2 size in the Martina wedges. I think that they're a 1/2 size small. HTH

      Delete
    3. Hexicon, the Martinas are definitely 1/2 size small!

    4. Hexicon, late reply, but same as what others have said, 1/2 size up should do it.

  4. Can anyone tell me if this is how short Minnies are supposed to be? Or do I need the talls? They just seem so short. I'm 5'7" and I normally wear a size 6, but these are a size 4, since I heard they stretch like crazy.

Thanks for your help in advance!!!

    1. They are supposed to fit that way, I think. I am 5'6" and have bought the Talls last winter (I have them in 3 colours). They reach my ankles and are quite warm to wear.

      Delete
    2. I have a question to the minnies too.
Are they TTS or do you size down?
      TTA!

      Delete
    3. Ina I have to size up in the Minnie's to fit my hip, but either way they are a total disaster on me, they look terrible. Too tight with a gaping waist, apparently they look "great on everyone" except for me, LOL.
And Phoebe I am 5'7" and like Rose if I could wear those pants I'd take a Tall.

      Delete
    4. Ina, size way down in Minnies. I wear a 6 in the chino shorts and a 2 in the minnies.

      Delete
    5. I am regularly a 6, and went down to a 4 in the vibrant flame as well. However, the "new" ones - ie, the ones with the new tags - I find to be more TTS. I bought the boulevard green ones in a 6, and have worn them probably 3 times now without washing and they haven't stretched. I think J. Crew heard the complaints and made some changes!

For reference, I am also 5'7, and currently wearing mine in vibrant flame - no idea why, but they are about 1.5in from my ankle.

      Delete
    6. Ina, I wear a 2 in the cafe capri and took a 2 in the Minnie, though I could have sized down to a 0 because they have a lot of stretch! I have no hips, but have "bigger" thighs. I found the wool to fit/look a lot nicer than the twill ones.

lzab - good to hear that they don't stretch!

      Delete
    7. Dani, it's not just you, the Minnie's look ridiculous on me. The Pixie pant is much better.

      Delete
    8. I look horrendous in Minnies, I couldn't go out in them, they did nothing for me either.

      Delete
    9. Haha, I love the Minnies and own 3 pairs ;) I usually wear a 4 in them, but I wanted to buy the boulevard green pair and now might buy a 6 thanks to lzab's heads-up.

    10. Thank you so much for your help with the minnies!

  5. I never tried coats from Jcrew.
Can somebody give me advice how to size them?
I am usually a size 0 in blouses and a xxs or xs in tees.
    I am also petite.
    Thank you for your help!

    1. I love both the double cloth metro coat and the lady coat - I have both in several colors some from last year and some from the year before (I live in MN so many winter coats are justifiable). I love that you can get them with thinsulate. Sizing: I get one size up from my schoolboy blazer size. This is not big enough to wear a blazer under but fine for sweaters. (I simply bring my blazer to work and put it on when I take my coat off, do the same with my shoes). The lady coat is cut slimmer in the hips than the metro but I'm a pear shape and both work for me. Detailing on both is amazing. I think they usually put coats on promo in November.

      Delete
    2. Just realized that in my excitement about the coats I forgot to comment on height - I'm 5'6 my mom who is about the same size as me but 5'2 has tried on my coats - the lady doesn't work for her - it's too tight across the hips, which is likely because the part that hits her hips is higher one me. The metro coat worked fine. Length was good in both - just below the knee. Both would probably need to be shortened in the arms.

      Delete
    3. Ina I would say to order a petite in the coats, I have a friend who is 5'2" and she gets the petite. My regular size 2 fits me fine, though some of my coats are a 0. I get the size 2 so I can layer. I am 5'7" however so I would definitely recommend the petite.

    4. Ina, I purchased my first J Crew coat last year, the Majesty Peacoat. I am 5' 1" and usually a size 4 in J Crew. I tried on the regular 4 in the store and felt that the 6P was a better fit for me since I was planning on wearing possibly, a tee/shirt, sweater underneath and did not want it too tight. The overall length and sleeve length were perfect. I had purchased another coat in winter sale not offered in Petite in a 4 and it fits but sleeve length is a little too long. HTH

  6. Has anybody tried to wash their no 2 pencil skirts in double-serge cotton?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes! There was a comment here awhile ago reporting that the No. 2 in double serge cotton was mislabeled wrt wash instructions, according to cs. I've washed one of mine. I laid flat to dry, but I might try to toss it in the dryer next time (I feel like they stretch out a bit so shrinking a bit would be fine).

      Delete
    2. Ditto here. I laid flat to dry. Washed nicely but needed steaming/ironing. I don't think I'd trust mine to a dryer -- I think it's been mentioned that the double serge cotton pencils were prone to seam rips (mine did!) and so I sized up in my subsequent purchases to avoid this. If mine shrank in the dryer, they'd be tighter, and I think more likely to rip.

      Delete
    3. I have, and they seem to do fine. I dried them on a hanger.

      Delete
    4. I had been pulling them out of the wash to let them air dry but I forgot one and it shrunk :-( Sadness.

      Delete
    5. Thanks! I was wondering the same thing...I always feel so silly dry cleaning cotton.

      Delete
    6. Can anyone tell me: Did you iron them after letting them air dry? If so, did it cause any problems with the sheen of the fabric? Thanks!

      Delete
    7. Leah, I would recommend ironing inside out especially with the dark colors just to be safe, that is what I do.

  9. Hexicon~I purchased the Martina wedges in Grey suede when it was the 40% off promo. I am now an 8 1/2 but I take a 9 in the Mona's so I thought to size up to a 9 & they for wonderfully.
Phoebe~I have the wool Minnie's in Modern Red & Black in the size 4 & they hit right above my ankle. I am 5'6, 125#
Ina~I have a wool belted trench, size 4 from 3 winters ago that still fits & looks great. Last year I got the stadium cloth coat in the green @ I had to send back for the 2. The 4 was huge in the stomach area.
I bit the bullet & used a VPA for the first time yest & got the 20> off my first order. I got te hen sweater in acorn (yes I drank the crew laid), the zigzag tee in mint (hope its well made) & the bennet snowcat chinos! Can't wait!

  12. I reviewed the Icon trench in wool-cashmere in the Heather Acorn color on my blog yesterday. Verdict: Like It. The color has a golden undertone so it is flattering and it looks great over my heather acorn skirts from last year.
It's not an exciting coat but a good basic and it seems well made, fits true to size to slightly big through the torso.

  18. I received the Double Cloth Slim Trench in Caribbean Pink yesterday and love it! It is a beautiful coat. I'm 5'7" and depending on how slim something is cut I take a 10 or 12. I got the 12 in this coat and it fits like a glove, so I would say that "Slim Trench" is an accurate description. The belt looks sit right at the waist - unlike some coats like the Icon trench where I think JCrew places them a little high.
The pink color is gorgeous - a little bit salmon but definitely more pink undertones than orange. The online color on my monitor is pretty true to the actual color. The only thing that I don't care for is that instead of a contrast piping along the lining in satin like most of their coats, they have a cheap looking cream colored tape that I'd rather they'd left off altogether. At least it's on the inside where it won't be seen. There is a flaw on mine near where the collar tab meets the collar so I have another one on its way to me.
It's a definite keeper if you love pink like I do. With 20% off adjustment by calling and talking to a VPS, it makes the price more bearable.
I also received the Schoolboy in pink herringbone and loved it too.

    2. Debby, thanks for this review, I am considering this coat. I'm pretty straight with a larger bust so I was planning to size up for extra room up top. Are the shoulders narrow at all? Sometimes that affects the fit of the bust.

It's disappointing that yours had a defect and that they are using tape instead of a nice piping but I still want to give it a try in the blue.

      Delete
    3. This comment has been removed by the author.

    4. I didn't think the shoulders were narrow. I've tried on just about every J Crew coat for the last few years and this is the nicest fitting one for me, I think. The lady day is cut too narrow all over for me and the metro was too small in the 10 and too big in the 12 for me last year.
Hopefully the defect (it was whitish where the collar tab met the collar - it looked like glue or that the color has come out of the fabric or something weird like that) was a one time thing.) I'm thinking about the blue also ... and the Vintage Burgundy looks like it could be gorgeous too.

    5. Oh, this is very interesting. I was wondering about this coat (see question earlier re coats). I am also very glad to hear that they have lowered the waist from high waist (as has been the unfortunate case (for me, at least) in the past). I like it a more true waist position (I started to wonder if the sizing models had unusual high waists!). Also good to know that it is quite fitted. I have a lady coat that is nicely fitted...now just wondering about the metro 2012...how fitted is that one. Thanks for your review of the slim trench, Debby !

  20. You know how there are J Crew items that aren’t your style but you can see how other people might like them? I call that Not My Thing, or NMT for short. Everyone has NMT‘s – mine include the Stubbs & Wootten velvet slippers and the snakeskin maxiskirt. And that’s okay. I’m sure other people don’t like some of my favorites.

But every once and again there’s an extraordinary item that defies taste, reason and the laws of nature. Judgments about these items aren’t subjective, but objective: their hideousness is fact, not opinion. These items join the Pantheon of Ultimate Ugliness (PUU, pronounced “pee-you”). To qualify for PUU status, it has to be universally unfathomable that the item was designed, approved, manufactured, wholesaled, priced and offered to the masses. Indeed, it must boggle the mind that dozens of experienced people signed off on it.

It is our sad obligation to acknowledge another entry into the PUU: the Lulu Frost for J Crew Tangerine Resin Petal necklace. Please – before you click on the link, make sure your children are in bed and your pets are secured.

    http://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/jewelry/PRDOVR~25490/25490.jsp

I am a deep believer in the Almighty, but one look at this necklace caused me to fall to my knees and plead WHY??? WHY???

And then it dawned on me. This $278 “pitch perfect mash-up” can unite the world. This necklace is so dreadful that warring peoples across the globe – red state/blue state, Israel/Palestine, Notre Dame/Michigan, might cease their conflicts, however briefly, to agree that this item is the devil’s handiwork.

JCA’s, together we can draw the line, take a stand and right a wrong. J Crew, for the good of all mankind, please don’t sell this necklace! Do I hear an AMEN?

    1. Cousy, you are hilarious! It's been a very long time since I've seen a new acronym and you came up with two great ones! :)

And the necklace -- Holy Camoly!! It's a shame because I actually like Lulu Frost and I have quite a few of her earrings and necklaces (not for JC) that are very pretty, clean, and well made. The exact opposite of this one. I did think there were a couple of LF JC bracelets in the first set that came out (a couple years back?) and I ordered them, but they felt so cheaply made that I returned. Not a good collaboration for either side.

      Delete
    2. Lol, I think we have some new terms to add to the J.Crew glossary.

      Delete
    3. I didn't see this one, as the jewelry section doesn't usually get my attention until someone points out something to me. But talk about over the top design! I'm sure it will sell out, though, just like all the other Lulu Frost pieces. Just watch. LOL

      Delete
    4. Ironically it is backordered until 11/5/12!

Is it possible that they have sold more than they had? Who is buying that thing?

Or ... maybe they haven't produced any yet and are waiting to see if anyone does!

      Delete
    5. Wow, that necklace is....large. I think they're trying to get a jump on 1920's-ish looking stuff in preparation for when the "Gatsby" movie is released for the upcoming holidays, but I just am not feeling that big honkin' resin and glass costume jewelry this time around. The bracelets are much more attractive than the necklaces, imo.

    6. Cousy, loved your post LOL. My favorite all time PUU was that capri type pant with the double row of buttons, with the crotch down around the knees, looked like a full diaper. I can't remember the name, I believe it was a collaboration with a designer. I always looked at it when I was having a bad day just for grins. I would always say to myself, I want to shake the hand of the woman that could pull off that pant...what a PUU.

    1. Kelly, the pixies don't really stretch out at all. You should get an 8. They run a bit big... I can wear a 4 in them and I need a 6 in pretty much everything else.

  25. My VPS put aside a lot of things to try out from the latest roll out (must be an indication of the amount I've been spending there this summer!).

Tried and loved: Nicky top in herringbone - love, love, love. It fit TTS. Origami dress in hammock green - also fit TTS, I'm just a touch under 5'5 and it was slighty above the knee, so not sure people may want to order as close to their size as possible (tall, petite). Minnie in bi-stretch wool - fit TTS - these are magic pants! Makes my runner's legs look slim!

I tried on a few No. 2s and nothing was really calling to me. Tried on the floral brocade, abstract floral, multicolor tweed..They all fit TTS. I agree with Rose (1moreshoppingblog), the abstract floral is very spring like, though my VPS suggested pairing it with navy tights to make it more fall.

Tried on the cafe capri in navy tweed - these are a pass for me, I found them to add bulk to my thighs (size 2), they fit TTS.

Hen sweaters - found them to be itchy, and the fabric on both colors was looking a little fuzzy already and they had JUST gotten them in. TTS. Pass.

Peter pan sweaters - super itchy. Tried xs and s - the s was quite boxy and slouchy. The xs was really short on the torso.

Jeweled-collar sweater. Again pretty itchy. Tried both the xs and s, same issues as the peter pan sweaters. One blogger had said that perhaps the herringbone portion extended too far into the arms/shoulder region, I agree. The collar is really cute though.

Ankle stretch toothpick - fit TTS, but these are not made for women with bigger calves (I don't have HUGE calves, but they are muscular), I could barely get these past my calves!

Strange, but some of the "new" arrivals at my store were actually from previous roll outs that they are just getting in NOW and still marked at full price (my store always matches online prices though). I bought a couple of older cafe capris - kaleidoscope and the pop art. Kaleidoscope felt TTS (slightly big?, but I found the pop art to be huge, I sized down to s 0 (O!??! Ok, JCrew enough with the vanity sizing!). Also, bought the amie striped maxi, definitely size down in that too.

  26. @ cousy (reply doesn't work) - I could not agree more! All the Lulu Frost stuff is hideous. And in fact, I'm not a big fan of a lot of the new jewellery (and I have a lot of J.Crew jewellery!!). **sad face**

  28. Has anyone purchased the Hacking Jackeet from either J.Crew or Factory? Normally I need a tall size in blazers, but hoping that this one runs long?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I purchased the tall Hacking Jacket in Tipped Double Serge Wool last year in a 12 tall and it was the best fitting J Crew jacket I've bought in years. It wasn't just the jacket length that made tall better, but where the waist hit and sleeve length etc. FYI I am 5'11"long torso and broad shoulders. Highly recommend this jacket for tall gals.

      Delete
    2. I purchased the hacking jacket last year (JC, not Factory) in the purple herringbone. It definitely runs long - fits more like a boyfriend blazer, except fitted at the waist. The hem hits at the bottom of my hips. I'm normally a 00 or 00p, and went with the 00 for the sleeve length. Very flattering, but I wear it more as a light fall coat due to the length and the heavier weight of the fabric.

  32. Have picked up a few things in the last month or so...will probably do a review w/ pics on the ol' blog soon, but here is a summary:

Boy Shirt in Classic White = FINALLY, I have found a white button-down that fits! Took my usual size 8. The shirt is soft and finished very well, and although the cloth seems to be a bit thinner than J.Crew's old non-stretch button-downs, at $69.50 I am very satisfied.

Tortoise-button Sweatshirt in Stripe, Navy/Red = Bought this guy just because I love the look. Probably overpaid by about $20 for a sweatshirt, but oh well. Fits TTS - slightly boxy and hits at high hip. The fabric is a nice, thick, tight knit that reminds me of my St. James mariniere, not really like a "sweatshirt" at all. Love the buttons.

No.2 Pencil Skirt in Neon Tweed, FS = Beautiful tweed, the colors are gorgeous and saturated. Fully lined in cotton. I would recommend sizing UP if you are between sizes...I bought this skirt in a 6 and it fits like a 4.

Stripe Silk Cami, FS = Bought my usual size 8, so TTS. It works really well under jackets and cardis for work. I'm not in love with it, but I suspect that has more to do with the fact that you have to wear a racerback bra with this top, and my racerback is not very comfortable. Should probably buy a different one....

Edie Pursette in Flame (aka RED), FS Popback = I luurrrrve this little bag, so glad I played the popback stalker game for a week! I needed a small bag for casual daytime outings, and both the Little Edie and Tillary purses were a bit more ladylike than what I wanted. The Edie leather is buttery soft and gorgeous, might be prone to showing scratches but I'm not too concerned since this is a casual bag for me.

  35. @LauraWears: I have the hacking jacket from last year--I am 5'8" with a long torso and my regular size 4 in blazers fit me well. It is definitely significantly longer than the schoolboy.

    1. Agree with this...I order Tall sizes whenever they are offered, but the Regular sized Hacking Jacket was fine--I definitely wouldn't want it any longer.

      Delete
    2. I agree as well. I also order my blazers in tall size whenever offered (I am 5' 9"). But with the Hacking jacket, I liked the fit better in regular size -- the tall did not hit my waist in a good place.

  36. Can anyone comment on how itchy the Minnies in Bi-Stretch Wool are (if at all)? I love them (and love the Cabernet colour), but itchy pants drive me crazy.

    1. I have all the colours from last year and love them. I didn't find them itchy, but then I am not very sensitive to wool either. I think definitely try them on before they fit final sale.

    2. I agree with Rose, I didn't find them itchy at all.

    3. I tried on the Cabernet Minnies (great color by the way) and they weren't itchy at all. They felt more like stretchy knit than a wool.

    4. Thanks ladies, I think I'll give them a try!

  38. Stop in store the other day...peter pan/alpaca sweater/top is as others have commented. It has go to be the thinnest/itchest item of all time. The jewel collared sweater is way over priced for a nice collar on a sweater. The Jules dresses are a short tunic not dresses and the jewellery well let just say in less then one month I bet we see many of these first roll out fall pieces on big discounts.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think if you are loving any of the new fall pieces that if you are patient and don't need to be only looking at them in your closet for two months....they all will be on sale soon. From what we have all been seeing the love is just not there. Carolyn from Vancouver

    2. Thanks for the advice, Wendy. The Bella is a really beautiful blazer. I'm glad you found one.

  43. Just received the Hen sweater in navy. I know a lot of people are not a fan because of the chance of it pilling but the one I received, looks beautiful. I usually order an M in sweaters and did so on this one. Seems to fit tts. Also, I did not find it itchy but it does have some "itch" factor to it. I usually always wear a tank or thin tee under sweaters. Also, received the Tie-Top in navy tweed. LOVE LOVE. This is a nice weight and I love the threading of gold and purple in the tweed. I can pair with jeans/boots, jeans/flats, pretty much anything. It will look great with pencil skirts too. This is and will be my only big purchase for FALL...everything else will have to go on sale!

  44. Anyone interested in the minnies may want to also take a look at the Banana Republic Sloan fit slim ankle pant. I find them very similar to the stretch twill minnies.

A 2 tall in the minnies fits similarly to a 2 regular in the sloans. The price is the same, but BR has much more frequent promotions (30-40% off is not uncommon) and you can get free shipping.

The only big question mark for me on the BR pants is washability. They're marked dry clean only.

    1. I have a couple of pairs of the Sloan's and love them over the Minnies. I did a post about it last week. I always wash mine, cold water, handwash cycle and let them air dry.

    2. I must have missed your post - that's great news that you've been able to successfully wash them.

    3. I like the sloan much better than the Minnies but they are also longer. I'm about 5'6 and the Minnies come maybe 4-5 inches above my ankles, while the sloan comes right to the ankle. I also really like the current sloan colors.

    4. I also have the Sloane's and love the way they look. Very flattering and comfortable pant. Thinking about buying the wine colored ones.

    5. Would those washing instructions work for the Minnies as well? Thank you! :)

    6. MissKitty, I do the same for the minnies and that has worked for me. Sometimes I put them in the dryer, low heat since they stretch so much after wearing.

Cate O and ShopwithM posted reviews on this blazer. It's great for Fall!

  51. I am just heartsick over this Sterling skirt. Sick, I tell you! It will be perfect for my pearish figure. Can't stop "visiting" it on the J. Crew site.

Too bad it will be a long time before I could reasonably order it though. The temps in Boca Raton are in the 90s every day with no signs of letting up until late October. Until then (or until a nice markdown) I will keep on dreaming.

  52. OT: Got my catalog in the mail today, and there's a coupon for 20% off my first purchase of over $250 with a VPS.
Can someone explain to me how this works? What exactly does the VPS do? If I were to meet with one, would they expect me to spend a significant amount regularly..? I mean, maybe about 10% of what I own from J Crew was bought FP, and that doesn't exactly scream "this customer could benefit from a personal shopper!!" to me.

    1. I got the same card in my catalog, and I'm interested in hearing other people's opinions about VPS. The last time I tried to contact an online personal stylist, I never got a response from them, and my local store has never called me either when I've signed up to get contacted by an instore personal stylist.

  53. Can anyone comment on the sleeve length of size 2P or 4P in the petite lady day/metro coats? I am petite but I like my coat sleeves to hit about an inch past my wrist. I've seen multiple petite reviews of the 00P and 0P saying that the sleeves are too short, but larger petite sizes don't seem to have this problem. I don't *need* petite sizing in coats all of the time, so if the 2P sleeves are too short, I will seriously consider ordering the 2 regular.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm petite too but have long arms, so the regular sizes always work for me. I'm always a 2P in J. Crew coats but can size down to a regular 0. I'm 5'2 on a good day. HTH!

    2. I forgot to mention that you can always have J. Crew hem or take out the sleeves for free if item is full price. If you bought item on line, simply bring in on line receipt to the store and alterations are free!

  55. The IRL pix of the No. 2 pencil skirt DS wool in various comments/links seem to show it as above the knee length but the website pix shows it as a longer length although the description is 23-1/2" . Is the length shorter/above-the-knee? I am 5'7", usually a sz 10/12 (and loved the longer No. 2 skirts from the spring).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Rashawnda, if you saw it on my blog, I am wearing it slightly higher on the waist but I am 5'9" and it's definitely above the knee on me. If I sized up to a 6 I would have more length. One of the hazards of being thick-waisted and tall I suppose, but the fit this year was not as streamlined so I think the 6 may have looked a bit frumpy and I'll stick with the 4.

      Delete
    2. Rashawnda, if you want more length on the No. 2 Pencil I would recommend ordering it in a Tall size. The Tall version of the skirt is 25.5" long.

  59. HI All, I got to visit a store tonight! This is exciting for me because I live two hours from the nearest store and I never get away from home, but today I did.

Anyway, there were some beautiful things, the minnies, the cafe capris, the pencil skirts, just everything. But alas, I am so pregnant that I really cannot try anything on and afraid that it may be a while before I can wear normal clothes again! I did end up buying the rugby striped boatneck top, the navy is so beautiful in person. It looks much shorter in person though than online. Confused by this. There was a decent sale section with no extra % off so the prices are better online right now.

I also bought the navy schoolboy and small biennial bag. I took a pretty good look at the stretch perfect shirt in stripe and I swear they are thicker and nicer material than last year but I don't know if my pregnancy brain is playing tricks on me or not. The navy school boy is beautiful. It was on my "fall shopping list". Ladies I have stayed true to my fall shopping list, sans one purchase so far. I am proud of myself.

    1. Sara, that sounds fun! You are very smart to not get too many things while you're pregnant. Even if you go back to the same weight, your shape is probably going to change. You can't miss w/the schoolboy, I think. That's a great purchase. Congrats to staying on your list. Your comment spoke to me because I am employing the same tactic and it's going very well so far :)

    2. I agree with Gigi. My daughter is almost 15 months, and I am at pre-pregnancy weight, but things are a a bit different (I was measured for a bridesmaid dress and my hips have spread 3/4" pre-preg).

I'm still nursing my daughter twice a day, and I know my chest will be different when I'm done weaning her. I was trying on some dresses that I bought over the summer for an upcoming trip. It fit perfectly at the time that I bought it (Ella dress), and when I tried it on again over the weekend, it was so tight, I almost cried. Fed my daughter and the dress was loose on top.

I also bought the navy schoolboy - love it and it was on my list, too! :)

  60. Hi Sara, glad you got to go to a B&M! Gigi's right, you're smart to not buy too much now. It all changes postpartum - at one point I was ready to get rid of all my blazers 'cause I was certain they would never fit again in the shoulders and then one day out of nowhere they were fine. Can't say the same for my pants yet, though! ;)

  61. I broke down and placed an order this am. Used my rewards card and bit on the Allie dress in floral. I am petite so I hope this works, thinking of styling with opaque black tights and black heels. Anyone have other suggestions??

Also got the snake print scarf for myself. I think this will be a good neutral wool scarf, and it wasnt final sale. Finally, picked up some small gifts for my bf and sister, none were final sale so no worries if they don't work out.

    1. The main difference, in my experience, is the high waisted ness. They fit about the same other than that. Neither is super stretchy, only give slightly with wear, not like some jeans that stretch a half size or more through the day. HTH!

  66. Just received a big package of Factory stuff and every item is a bust, with the exception of the Factory crystal raindrop earrings which are cute and a pair of $3 socks which I'd tossed in to get free shipping. I was particularly excited to receive the Factory classic crewneck cardi in vibrant flame stripe, and upon receiving it, I promptly went back to the website and rechecked the image. Either I'm colorblind or online it's a bright orange sweater with tan stripes. In reality, it's a bright orange sweater with horribly clashing olive green stripes. Huh?? It's too bad because I'm quite happy with the sweater itself - it runs really short but I'm short so no issue here - but I'm not about to place another $175+ order just to get it in a different color without paying for shipping. A bit sad about that one.

Next up, the Factory pony hair skinny belt. I think the belts I see street vendors selling look more upscale than this. I love skinny belts, but given the amount of fabric used to construct this item, I might as well tie a string around my waist. However, what it lacks in substance in terms of width, it more than makes up for in length. I bought a size small and I am a good three inches away from being able to wear it on the smallest belt hole, and even if I created a new hole to make it smaller, I'm left with a mile of dangling excess. Back it goes.

Next up, the Factory abstract tweed mini. It has an exposed zipper at the back, which I didn't know about and personally I love exposed zippers but I know they're not a universal favorite aesthetically speaking. It fits wonderfully and from a distance it looks great, but up close it looks so cheap to me. (It's days like this when I hate living alone - I really need a second opinion!!) It reminds me of a collection skirt I stalked for months two winters ago, and when I finally bought it for $119.99 on final sale after an additional percentage off, I was really disappointed and ended up reselling it here a few months later for about half what I paid. I wish I could remember the name of it; my inner geek nicknamed it the dot matrix skirt because it looked like a printer test sheet from the '80s up close. So, to return or not to return? Will have to decide tomorrow when I pack up the rest of the lot.

On a side note, I received an email back from customer service regarding the defective corduroys I bought on final sale and they did a pre-return immediately, which seemed appropriate but I still really appreciated it and found it to be an example of great customer service. I was less in love with the latter portion of the email which responded to my complaint about not receiving a 20% off code in any of my 4 orders by saying that "there are no specific criterion for the promotion"... bla bla bla. Makes me feel better about all the returns though, given that I'm not a big returner.
