Sort of a "vent." Does anyone remember watching this television special about J.Crew/M. Drexler?

Rather sad to see all of those lovely colors and compare to the drabness and juvenile offerings I'm seeing now.
MmeJacqueline, Yes, I do remember watching and how fascinating a guy he was, his reasoning behind everything and of course those gorgeous colors. I also remember his friendship with Steve Jobs years ago. Both were such visionaries and it was interesting to learn how much he played a part in Apples’s store concept. It’s sad to see what direction JCrew has taken and basing everything it appears to be about demographics. Bad move. They will lose their loyal core customers in droves and fall flat with all of this drab, juvenile and ridiculous looking apparel. Wall Street is watching….thank you for posting.
DeleteHonestly, though, don’t you think at this point that at J Crew, the “elevated classics with a twist” ship has sailed? It’s been years. I’ll speak for myself here and please know, no disrespect to anyone intended, but I think the complaints about poor quality and design are mostly veteran J Crew fans aged 40+ (like me) who fondly remember the glory days. There simply aren’t any good substitutes for what the brand was then, so here we are, still hoping. I respect those who still find things to love - they may have discovered J Crew later and don’t have the same attachments to those iconic styles from the Mickey/Jenna/Gayle days, and I think they probably have a different style aesthetic than I do. I’ll continue to find an odd thing here or there to love, but I know I need to move on.
DeleteDoes anyone here shop Cabi? They just posted their spring line and there are more vivid colors and prints compared to J Crew.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy CaBi clothing. I go to a CaBi show at least 3-4 times a year. I shop their shows just as I shop JC (and most other lines)...I may buy 1 or 2 pieces if I just have to have something but otherwise I keep a wish list and wait for the seasonal sale. While they do offer some neat features (they seem to listen to women's complaints) I find that they have quality issues just as other lines. I do have some pieces that have lasted several years some of the more current pieces have ended up in the to-go pile. I recently visited a CaBi outlet. That was a definite treasure trove looking at past season items that i missed out on at 1/2 the price!

DeleteYeah, everybody has quality issues these days it seems. I just bought from Cabi for the first time during Fall 21. I was only disappointed in the sweater that turned out to be itchy even though it had no wool.
