Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Paul Smith's 20% off Sale items (Code: EXTRA20) just ended. I took my chances (not final sale + free shipping and returns) to order a leather shoulder bag, a "bum bag" in polyester, a pair of leather ankle boots and a pair of loafers. The accessories in leather look gorgeous on the website. As usual, I have no clue what my size is (for the shoes/clothes). Fingers crossed but at least nothing is Final Sale

The price for both pairs of shoes after all discounts was comparable to full-price on non-high-street retailers' shoe offerings. Hope they fit!!!!

  2. This fall I got my first pair of Marc Fisher shoes. A lug sole Oxford I wear for work. I got my daughter two pairs including the same oxfords and a lug sole penny loafer. The quality of the loafers seems to be better as we both notice the leather on the oxfords has not worn well but they are SO comfortable. Sizing is horrible. I sized down and they’re still a little loose. I wanted the loafers in white and sized down a full size. I got them the other day and love them though. Sale price is $60-75 which seems to be hard to find these days at least when you are looking for a specific style.

I read that the company is related to Nine West. I haven’t worn Nine West shoes in a million years but I’d say marc fisher is like a typical department store brand quality. List price is about $170 which is nuts.

    1. That's a huge markup in all probability. Consider that Urban Outfitters has some crazy sale pricing on some shoes currently. A Chelsea boot with heavy (lug?) soles can be had for <$5. But the reviews are all over the place with photos of the upper coming apart.

It's a shame for the planet, the amount of crap that's being made and sold and trashed.

    2. While trying to research Paul Smith sizing, I came across some old reviews on a third-party forum. Apparently high-end retailers like PS aren't immune to poor quality either. As I said, fingers crossed.

    3. Of course it’s a crazy mark up. Nordstrom reviews for the shoes I got were mostly negative because of sizing. Marc fisher website offered free shipping and returns and I had actually ordered from Nordstrom rack as well when I was looking for a different size.

  3. i had such a bad day at work the other day, i went and ordered the Alex Mill Lightweight Button-Back Crewneck Sweater in Stripe so i'll report back when it gets here. But i've been really happy with the items i've gotten from AM so far.
