  1. Not really a love. Tried the Full-length Demi Boot jeans in kalari wash. Color was great, a nice medium wash. The bootcut is a moderate and not too exaggerated, so flattering and good for those wanting a full length version of the cropped style. But they are *really* high-waisted and it may just be me but that style is starting to look dated IMO and it never flattered short-waisted me anyway. The biggest issue is the raw hem on this wash. The full length version would look a bit more polished w a finished hem w the shoes/boots I would wear w them. I might try another color w a finished hem.

    1. That’s funny, in the video on IG I thought they looked fairly low rise, but then again I have a super long torso. I’ll check the rise.

    2. @ruffles, sorry to report high rise pants continue for Spring and Summer across all retail and high end platforms. Not limited to JCrew. They just better kick out some more attractive items next Tuesday and stop with this hiking look.

    3. Thanks for the review. Does the tyranny of short pants also continue? When will we get more full length pants?

    4. Suz, definitely a 10-inch+ rise in a 27, so way too much fabric around the middle for my frame. Longer waists will love them.

Lynn, I’ve successfully avoided anything greater than a 9-inch rise for the past several years of the trend but it hasn’t been easy! Here’s hoping for flattering options for all next week.

    5. I can't wear the high rise either, ruffles, but fortunately J. Crew and Madewell have been putting out more mid rise options this past year.

    6. Ruffles, 10 inch is midrise on me. 12-13” is what I like these days! For years I have been dealing with a too short rise and having to my pants on my hip bones…or else. 😜

    7. Cate, I agree! I’ve been grateful for the mid rise options at both J Crew Madewell.

    8. Suz Has: I'm with you on 12-13". I don't want a rise less than 11". I do have a long torso, and the higher rise makes my legs look longer. I just feel better in them.

    9. High rise forever here. They are so much more comfortable and flattering on me than low rise. I hate constantly tugging up my pants to avoid showing my buttcrack to the world.

  2. I kind of love the cashmere crewnecks I got for $69? When I first tried them on they felt huge but then I tried them on using different pants and they seemed much better! They are looser but not sloppy (with the right bottoms) and they hang quite nicely. Time will tell how they were wear but I'm pretty happy with them. I got the dark red (burgundy) and the spanish marigold (bright orange but not neon).

    1. I got the floral multi heather crewneck when it was $69.50. I ordered 2 sizes. I usually wear a large but I ordered a medium and a large. The medium was okay but was a bit shorter and the arms were just right. The sweater, although comfortable, did look like it was too small. I was surprised when I tried on the large that it didn't look sloppy too. Since I'm almost six feet tall, I kept the large. I recently ordered the burgundy, size large, final sale. It arrived recently and it looks great. Good luck with the spanish marigold. I saw this color a few months ago in the store and the color looks very different on my computer screen. If I hadn't seen it in store, and I ordered it final sale, that would have been one of those terrible final sale purchases.

  3. I hope there are options for all. I like the high rise styles as they fit my body type well. I can also wear mid rise depending upon the brand. These tend to run a little higher on me. I noticed in an IG reel JCrew’s head designer mentioned that she went up two sizes to get the look she wanted. Looking at her I wouldn’t say she has a typical body type other than she’s thin like some of us but then again I don’t want to waste my time trying on 20 pair of pants and having to have them tailored. Overall I don’t particularly like trying on pants because more often than not at least half won’t be a good fit as most of you know and I go home empty handed or send hem back. I do find though RL has fairly decent sizing and I’m able to purchase off the rack. My desires are the classic straight leg look and wide leg but not baggy or dragging on the ground. The trend appears to be at or slightly above the ankle which they call “cropped” or down to the floor. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see next week. Please JCrew, no more drab, baggy, leggings or sloppy looking stuff.

    1. Yes, she did say that! And I was thinking, ok, so now we order three pairs of pants? Which…I actually do sometimes because everything fits differently. Sometimes you want something perfectly fitted and other times the cut looks better looser.
Trying on pants in store is tricky because a lot depends on the right footwear, how the pants hang, etc…and you totally have to be in the mood to deal with horrible lighting, taking a million layers off if you’re dealing with frigid winter temps…which is why I’m mostly not buying JCrew bottoms.

    2. I wouldn't mind trying on 3 sizes but I do mind paying for return shipping. Madewell and J. Crew are not alike in this. And off topic, but it seems like Nordstrom isn't carrying J. Crew any more? They still carry Madewell.

    3. Agreed. I guess I didn’t verbalize the issue of final sale/no free returns via mail.

    4. @Cate, Nordstrom stopped a few years ago which was a shame for shoppers who had easier and free returns. As far as JCrew returns, I never pay for returns and this is because I’ve worked with a stylist and always waived items because I no longer have a store nearby and give her most 99% of my business to her.

  4. I wanted to post this separately. My stylist has been I’ll with COVID and she’s been very very sick. She’s lost 10 pounds in a week and is extremely weak. Please, if there’s anyone that has not been vaccinated please do so. She’s always been a healthy person so please don’t play the lottery with your health. I’m praying she doesn’t get pneumonia.

    1. Lynn, sorry to hear that she's ill; hope that recovers soon and doesn't have any long term impact. While I know that being boosted won't keep me from catching COVID, I have peace of mind knowing that I have a level of protection against severe illness.

    2. @Mygoddy, there was another person as well. She got sick and is still dragging however not as ill as the present one. Piece of mind and common sense are priceless. On another note, wondering about the next launch. Have you found it’s gotten more difficult to find pieces that are appealing? This loungewear casual look better start fading into the sunset. How can a company simply shift so dramatically from classic with a twist to a sloppy look. I wouldn’t want to get out of bed had I purchased many these items. If you see anything new at your store this weekend please post. Your comments are always appreciated. Have a great weekend.

    3. Lynn, completely agree on all accounts. Appreciate all the updates and reviews, and hoping for some more polished alternatives to the sloppy, drab loungewear that has dominated J Crew’s offerings for the past few seasons.

    4. I hope that J.Crew gets out of this depressed look. It is such a contrast to those days of the catalogues with happy, attractive, and healthy looking people wearing lovely clothes in cheerful colors. There is one model that looks like she hasn't washed her hair in a week. Now that looks like someone who is depressed! Guess that's the new J.Crew.

    5. @MmeJacqueline, couldn’t agree more with you. Not a cheerful looking group overall. The good part for them is that they have a job, the bad part is they don’t like the clothes they’re modeling and most likely not that experienced.

  5. @MmeJacqueline and anyone else: I purchased the following item Lady jacket in maritime tweed
Item BA486 in black. The neckline is a little on the larger side and would appreciate suggestions as to what to put under it. No turtlenecks. Thanks all

    1. @Lynn: I got that jacket in both black and ivory. I had ordered the ruffled collar merino wool ribbed sweater in both a raspberry color and the ivory and black stripe. I opened the top button of the collar and wore that underneath, which is a little different look than I'm used to, but I decided that I liked it with the collar falling around the neckline of the jacket.

I like the quality of that jacket, but the neckline can be challenging. Those merino sweaters are nice, but I'm not sure that they are still available. They are the right layer (for me) under the jacket.

    2. Oh I wish I could see a pic of this styled like that. I always have problems with that round neck and was thinking if I sized up for the shoulders could I wear a tie neck blouse under it or would it be too boxy for me. The quality looks nice but I’ve bought and sold or returned so many of these because the cut is always a bit tricky/boxy. That said the ONLY blazer I’ve worn this year is the metallic tweed from last year. Its double breasted though and boxy but still hip length. I don’t know if the quality is as good as this one but I remember I paid under $50 for it and hated it at first. But with my new favorite jeans it works much better.

    3. @MmeJacquline, thank very much. I imagine it looks lovely and adds some femininity to the jacket. I also wondered if I added a slightly ruffle collared blouse to gain the same effect. Tie necked. Keeping it classic. Have a nice weekend and again thank you.

  6. Classic-fit washed cotton poplin shirt in pinstripe
Item BD767. Just arrived and it s going right back. I have the same shirt from 2010. It hasn’t frayed nor faded. I still wear this. I ordered this same shirt and I can’t stress enough how thin the fabric is. No comparison. I would say it runs fairly true to size with a little room to spare. If you want a nice classic blue and white stripe shirt this isn’t it. A shame.
