J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Some reviews!

Denim lady jacket in Stay Navy wash (L) - I ordered my larger letter size and definitely should have done a medium. It's also a bit short on me. It's cute, and well made and the color is lovely. Would reconsider in a medium.

Tipped sweater-jacket in Bronzed Olive (L) - like above, this would have fit me better in a Medium - the large had shoulder seems off my shoulders and was roomy buttoned up. I'll reorder in a medium if it comes back in a medium (sold out this weekend when I was checking and limited sizes now).

9" high-rise toothpick jean in Roaring River wash (29) - the fit was fine but the color is lighter in person. Too light for me for work, was hoping for more of a medium blue and this was not that.

Margot crewneck sweater in heather honey - the color on this was exactly what I wanted for fall and fits great in my tippi size (L). I like that these look slightly more casual than a Tippi.

Still eyeing the new liberty button down in the black background floral print -- and the men's striped cashmere sweater.

  2. Hi all, has anyone tried the pointed toe Sadie leather boots? I’m wondering about sizing, comfort, if the toe is really pointy. Thank you!

  3. I have the Sadie boots! Only got them this summer so no real street wear. But TTS. Not narrow. Very soft leather!!! Comfortable in the house. I don’t slide forward which is common with bad heels! It think they will be comfortable! Not ready for fall or winter!!! Love my flats and flip flops!!!

    1. Thank you @Kate! I’m not ready for fall/winter either, the weather here is really feeling like it though.

  4. Bumping this previous comment to the appropriate thread now that the post cycle has been updated.

Giraffe easy pants- Seem shorter than previous versions (I own the olive green with grey panthers from a few seasons ago), I'm 5'4" and they were definitely several inches above my ankles. Silk seems thinner and more prone to wrinkles. Print is cute but a few giraffes were "beheaded" running into the seam down the center front, calling attention to the crotch in a way I didn't love. Maybe best to buy in person if you can, to make sure print placement isn't an issue.

Tippi Sweater in Chevron- This is not a Tippi sweater. The silhouette is different holding it up to an actual Tippi. The ribbed band at the collar is less tall than in a Tippi, and it has long sleeves. I found it TTS but slightly loose, especially in the arms. Color was very saturated, no white show-through from uneven printing like I've seen on some cheap J. Crew sweaters.

Ratti Lilac Collage Dress- Mine came packaged in bubble wrap ensuring no wrinkles and the ruffles were perfectly pressed. Labeled as a Collection item on the interior fabric tag. The background of the print is a saturated light pink, not white like it looks in the pictures. In addition to button front it has a side zip which completely zips open (not sewn up at the top of the armpit), making it very easy to get into and out of. Plastic buttons slightly cheapen it (fabric-covered would have been gorgeous), but I didn't mind the poly. Side seam pockets do not add any volume. Pleats lie flat at the defined waist seam, but the bottom is sufficiently swishy to be fun. TTS, though I'm considering sizing up one just because I'm very very busty and the placket was straining a bit. It's expensive, I have no place to wear it, and it's definitively a springtime dress for a September release, but darn it if I'm not in love with it, it's beautiful.

Parke Blazer in Ivory Plaid- I don't have any other Parke blazers to compare it to, but I found this to run slightly wide in the shoulders and roomier in the sleeves compared to Schoolboys and Campbell blazers I have in the same size. Plaid was a bit busier/less neutral than it seems on the website, the thinner stripes are still quite prominent. Wool was not itchy (and it is fully lined).

No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Autumn Tweed- Very comfortable fit in the smaller of my 2 sizes. Color is more of a vivid hot pink than a darker, blue-toned fuchsia than I was expecting, but the other colors tone it down a bit. To drive the point home, the lining is neon pink, with a wide cobalt blue grosgrain ribbon lining the interior waist. My husband really liked this one on me. If you want COLOR, but make it business casual, then this one's for you!

Sophie sweater blazer in Plaid- I love the shade of burgundy, it is cooler toned than some of the maroons that are out there. Print is lined up from patch pockets to body of the sweater. It is soft and I didn't find it itchy though I was wearing a Tippi under it just for try-on purposes, I should try it with a thinner tee. I am usually a 4 or S in tops (incl. Tippis) due to a large bust and ordered an XS in this, and could probably do an XXS- may re-order to compare.

Still missing the ribbed stripe sweater, but it should be here early next week. I was impressed I got all of the new arrivals so fast!
Overall, I'm pleased, I feel like quality is not further declining, design is improving, and this order has me optimistic for future rollouts.

    1. @Alyssa, thank you for the great reviews of new arrivals! The Ratti Lilac Dress sounds beautiful! It’s so tempting especially if the quality is good but I’m trying to resist. It’s great to hear that things are improving!

  5. It looks like all the items I ordered for the kids and their SO's during the BYESUMMER promo have already shipped. That was fast.

We received the Wallace & Barnes sweatshorts for my husband. They are TTS, a bit heavier than expected, with a comfy grey fleece interior. They are more fun with the indigo color and jeans-style top-stitching than the average men's pull on short. He's already worn a few times as the weather has moderated a little - these are not for the hottest days.

I also received my last treasure from the popbacks. J.Crew 365 sparkle fitted cardigan dress Item J7293...there was one size medium, and from the reviews I decided to size up and try it. Perfect, I like the body skimming fit, a small would have been too close fitting for my taste. It can be belted, or not, layered, or not, and works as a duster too. Love at $17!
