The earrings that were canceled last week, after three reassuring emails that they would arrive albeit a bit later, popped back today so I reordered them. Haven’t heard back from customer service (asked them if they would price match if there was a pop back) but with today’s promo and the retailmenot 15% off they were almost the same price. Fingers crossed they ship this time around

DeleteI decided to call and ask about the status of my order and was told it shipped this morning. Still no tracking number, but hopeful that I'll be getting all of my sale items. J Crew has changed the menu message when you call to specifically state price adjustments on regular priced items ordered within 7 days -- they're serious about this! Thanks to everyone who reported the change in policy AND the change from 60 days to 30 days to return online orders.
DeleteThe shoes are getting me. 😬 today the plaid block heel pumps were available in my size and although they were less expensive two weeks ago they weren’t available in my size (I tried smaller and bigger in store and neither fit). At least they’re not final sale.

DeleteThe block heels are getting me as well. I used to be able to resist most J.Crew shoes as they were too high too narrow, but now that they’re coming out with so many block heel styles I find it hard to say no to some of the great colours and patterns.

DeleteThe good news is, even with purchases I feel are extravagant, prices are so fair that we are not talking about a ton of money even for several pairs. And anyone who knows me knows I’ll wear black pants/top everyday but swap out my shoes.
I agree, it’s the fair prices that make it all too easy to add another pair here and there (and there, and there, and there....). I love having great shoes, it’s my weakness.
Delete@Cheritheberry, your shoe count made me feel better until I counted mine and it is worse. The Biella loafers in crackled leather arrived and are the nicest loafers I have ever had. Can't believe there is still a pair out there. I did get them at nearly 70% off the sale price which was better than today, but they are worth it regardless.
DeleteEveryone loves those loafers. I was tempted by several but I don’t really reach for loafers so I stopped myself. (My glitter loafers are a not so subtle reminder everyday.)
DeleteNo visit this weekend as I was away for the holiday but I do have several pairs of shoes waiting for me at UPS...so ladies, I totally feel ya on the shoe situation. I did get another pair of jeans and the eco denim jacket on friday - the 10" high rise eco toothpick with letdown hem and the 9" high rise jeggings in azure wash are both returns - ordered my usual size 29 for both and the fit isn't right on either.
ReplyDeleteGiven the recent chatter around the new PA adjustments - that's making me think twice before ordering items. Spring isn't quite here yet - I really don't need any summer items yet until I can go through what I have from last year.
Given the PA adjustment change and maybe to realize how good we had it, thought it would be fun to revisit some of our most memorable items/best deals we've gotten thanks to JC's formerly-amazing PA policy.

I keep detailed records of what I purchased and what I spent. (It was supposed to help me buy less, but it hasn't really worked out that way at all.) Some of my "best buys" after price adjustment (all prices Canadian and before taxes):
Delete- everyday cashmere sweater for $25
- Academy loafers mules for $16
- Chino pants for $12
- Men's leather gloves for $14
-cross-strap sandals for $10
A couple of observations
1) These prices are really low and J Crew probably isn't covering its costs at this level. But I guess if you are a retailer, some cash flow is better than inventory just sitting. I would have paid a little more, but because I didn't need these items, I would not have paid a lot more.
2) These are "price adjustment" scores. I didn't even know I could request price adjustments on sale merchandise until about a year ago. But I've paid prices that are almost as low on a non price adjustment basis when they have the promo codes. ($20 for chinos, $30 for shoes, $40 for cashmere). The discounting over the past few months has really changed my perception of value and what I am willing to pay. I used to think $80 for a pair of J Crew shoes or $100 for a J Crew blazer on sale was a good price. Now, unless I really really love a piece and I am concerned it will sell out, I will not pay that amount. (Of course, when you add up all of the items I purchase because they are sooo cheap, I spend way more than I would have had I stuck will full-price purchases, but that's another story.)
3) I saved a lot on these items, but, of course, I have been spending $12 in shipping for each order . I place an embarrassing number of orders so I spend hundreds (gosh that is hard to type) a year on shipping. I rationalize it on the basis that they are providing me with a service and I don't have access to the full range of sizes any other way. So even though I get great deals, I end up with just OK prices once you factor in all the shipping costs.
4) There is no "stacking" of codes available to Canadians so I can only imagine what sort of great deals Americans are getting through stacking. Maybe Canadians can stack but I've never been able to make it work. Even the FrugalMaleFashion crowd at reddit have seemed to indicate that stacking is only something that can be done on the US J Crew website.
Nothing memorable for me. I've never taken good advantage of the code stacking or price adjustments. This is because I don't keep that much from my orders so it's not worth the trouble to chase the PA for the small bit I keep. In older days, I would place a big order and then a 30% promo would start a day or two later, and for that I would definitely call and get it adjusted. I probably did that a time or two this past year. But on the whole, it's not worth the trouble. And I'm not much of a sale shopper any more, and that seems like where most of the great deals are found. There are some treasures in sale, but I'm extremely over the buy and return cycle, so I've finally made my peace with just not buying it (from J. Crew) to begin with. My orders are almost always stuff that's in a new rollout. But even then, I don't keep very much, so I don't mind if I don't get the best price if it's just a thing or two over a span of months.
DeleteOoh I like these questions that let us scroll down memory lane. Unfortunately most of my PAs have been the result of live chats rather than e-mails so it's hard for me to track. I also considered PAs as a matter of course before so they're not particularly notable in my memory. I do remember getting a Liberty blazer for a little over $50, and I got my pink Lodge Coat for $50 due to super sale. This last go-round of extra 40% off sale, I got a 2016 featherweight cashmere cardigan for $29 which I was pretty happy with!
DeleteI had a difficult time answering my own question too because I realized I don’t track my PAs. I also didn’t know sale PAs existed up until 2-3 years ago. I am constantly surprised when I make a big return at a store and the return value is significantly lower than I expected due to PAs I forgot about. A lot of the time I’m staring at the register saying I paid how much for that? The other day I returned the Bonjour Tippi and found out I paid 8.xx. It didn’t change my mind about returning it but I constantly think about how much I have overpaid in the past. I only ask for PAs if the difference is in the double digits - it has taught me to stop looking at retail prices and consider what I think is a reasonable value for the item. My most memorable recent PA deals is a 2008 Andover peacoat for $55.xx and the Lady jacket with fringe hem for $24.

I was dying to get them, received my package today and found out that they accidentally shipped me a pair of green penny loafer mules (womp womp). My usual size is not available but a half size down is... trying to figure out whether I should exchange for the size they have in stock or hold out for a possible pop-back of the size I originally ordered. TIA!

ReplyDeleteI received the leopard gladiator sandals today. I ordered a 9 but just ordered an 8.5 on popback and will have to ask that they match the price I paid for the 9 if I decide to keep. I really like them with pants but with shorts they look TERRIBLE. Like they make my legs look stumpy and my feet gigantic.
ReplyDeleteI had a pair of Sam Edelman stewpot leopard sandals that looked great with shorts so I’m not sure if it’s the thickness/looseness of the strap, the pasty skin or if I have stumpy legs. 😆
No idea what stewpot is. I wrote strappy which auto corrected to stewpot. WTH.

DeleteI have bought a ridiculous number of shoes this year, but one of my few rules is no ankle ties or straps of any kind. The cut-off at the ankle makes the lower leg look short and wide. My feet are actually gigantic (10), and I love any shoes that minimize them.
I actually love ankle straps. But on these something isn’t right. I’ll try on a few different shorts and skirts to see.

DeleteI am returning off-white ankle boots with the pointy toe and narrow heel. They are nice leather, and fit me perfectly. But my husband agrees they look like Im trying to hard. But I do have gold Sadies that shipped - I know you are a fan of the Sadies, so those may work out for me.
I know what he means. I kept the gold Sadie’s but wore them once for an indoor stroll. A bit loud but I’m sure they will get worn over time. Before it gets too warm I should Wear them on spring nights but t tend to reach for ankle baring shoes more,,

DeleteYes I like loud shoes too! We didn’t go out much this winter or I would have worn them. I wore my snakeskin cap toe boots the most. Just so easy for me to wear with all black.
