J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. 5am EST, site is down for me. Shoppers must be going crazy for the addtl 60% off in the final sale section.

  2. I woke up too late so I missed the sizes for whatever pieces I MAY have wanted. Guess I will have to head for a B&M today to check the sale section. I have not had much luck lately online or in store. Good luck to all!

    1. I hardly ever have any luck in the sale section at the store any more. I think it's because I didn't like the fall and winter rollouts (and some of early spring), and that's what the sale sections are packed with.

  3. Same here @ gigi and @ rashawnda. It took forever to load website, then no sizes left! May make a stop at my B&M also.
On other hand, have posted on my blog a quick review of the ryder pants I got on sale a few weeks ago. Very comfy, stretchy cotton, no tall size but fits well, and the blue color is brighter than pictured on the J.crew website.

    2. Thx so much! I thought it was super cute too. Waiting for the xs to arrive to compare fit.

  5. I noticed that they raised the prices on some items, so the 60% off would be equivalent to what it was yesterday.

  6. Did anyone buy the Patchwork Pants? I got them and can't decide if they are chic in a 1960's Bridgette Bardot way worn with a straw hat and flats or if they look like I should be hanging in a cornfield scarring away crows! I won't be wearing them with white high heels as they are pictured, but I think styling is very important to keep them from looking like I'm Old McDonald's daughter. Still on the fence (ha...so to speak) about them. Anyone have any comments???

  7. Stray Cat - I like these pants a lot, but agree that styling has to be fresh and modern. (But not those hideous white high heels with which these jeans are paired on the model...)

    1. I agree.....those heels are awful. I'm going to play around with them.....styling them differently before I make the commitment. They are very comfortable....the fabric is a lightweight chambray type denim. And I'm tall and long waisted so I like the look of the high waist on them. I think what bugs me is the patchwork stuff looks contrived. I'll think on it. Thanks for you review!

    2. At one point I was interested in those pants too, I think they are nice with the looser fit for a change. I'm sure you'll be able to make them work!

    3. Thanks Vava! I'm going to play around with them. If I can put the on and not see Ellie Mae Clampett in the mirror I may keep them. Ha!

    3. Yes, those shoes are one of the best things they offered for the season! Glad you got them! They remind me of some Miu Miu and Dolce Gabbana shoes I saw a year or so ago.

    4. Vava: I agree, these shoes are FAB! I am super grateful for the kitten heel.

  9. i'd love to hear reviews on the SLEEVELESS GEO-LACE SHEATH DRESS (item c6394). i love shift dresses but i'm worried the blue and red colors are too bright for me.

    1. I tried the cream one and saw the red one. I dont think the green/blue one is in stores yet.
It fits straight and just above my knee(i am 5 2"). The neck is pretty high on the dress if that makes sense. It feels soft. In the loose dresses i am usually a xxs and thats what fit me. I have a pic of me wearing it in case you want to see it on a person. HTH

    2. I would say the red is a cherry red,def not neo or orange imo.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the dress.

  10. Anyone try the super 120s shirt dress? I'm so tempted.

    1. Are you talking about the cap-sleeve shirt dress (item C4452)? If so, I tried it in both colors in both regular (00) and petite (P0). I am 5'2 and usually between a 00 and 0 in regular sizes but decided to give the P0 a try because I was concerned about the torso fit. I ended up keeping it in the grey color in regular 00 because I preferred the longer skirt length and didn't see a dramatic difference in the torso fit. I really like the dress in both colors, though I do think the pink is a bit more vibrant in person (which is not necessarily a bad thing, just worth noting). I primarily chose the grey because I purchased this for an interview and felt it was a more conservative color. The dress is professional yet stylish and comfortable enough to wear for moderate summer temperatures. If it goes on sale I would consider purchasing the pink and keeping both. HTH. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    2. Susan, yes that is the dress I was talking about. Thanks for the detailed review! I think I'm going to order and give it a try.

  11. For anyone tempted by 60% off on the stacked sequin items, stay away. I purchased the stacked sequin shell a few weeks ago, and kept it because the fabric was soft and it seemed pretty adaptable in my wardrobe. Sequins started falling off the second time I wore it. I returned it, and the SA told me that there were tons of returns on stacked sequin items and that there were design flaws.

    1. I was thinking about buying the shell despite the reviews. It looks so pretty. I also liked the sweater but the reviews mention how sheer it is so I had crossed that one off my wishlist. Pretty disappointing. Maybe we'll see a new and improved version next year.

  12. The Seaside Pants (C4330) in white don't seem see-through to me. Opinions?

  13. Question for you JCAs. I purchased the Ikat ZigZag shift dress and it is at J Crew getting the front V shortened since it was too plunging for me. I am now reading the online reviews and it only got 3 stars because of the front seam splitting. Any one have this dress and have that issue? Maybe I should have them check it while it is already at the tailor. Thanks in advance.

  14. So looking for an opinion instead of a review: Just posted in the Complaint post about my general disdain for the fit of the Andie chinos. I have a blue pair and a grey pair. Love the colors, but the baggy waist and stupid on-seam pockets annoy me. Anyone with the same complaint who had their Andies tailored and now love them? Considering having the pockets removed/sewn shut and having the waist taken in. At the same time, I'm looking to kondomari my closet. Let them go or salvage? If anyone had luck with a tailor, I definitely want to keep them.

  15. Ugh...I just bought the 4" chinos expecting to love them....well, I'm a little long-waisted and they're basically giving me a wedgie!!! Has anyone else had this issue? They are definitely the right size, and I don't have this fit issue when it comes to J Crew pants.

Anyways, I haven't been on this blog for a while and have actually bought a lot of J Crew that I absolutely love this season, but I wanted to alert everyone to this potential fit issue with the chino short.

    1. ***the 4" chino SHORTS**** ....just realized I didn't specify at the beginning of the post that I was referring to shorts

    2. I haven't bought any of the 4"chino shorts this season, but in the past I didn't find any problem with fit. Thanks for the alert. I hope JC hasn't changed the fit on these. I usually buy a pair or two every year, depending on the colors.

If you have the time, I'd love to hear more about the items that you like!

  16. Honeycomb Cocoon Top - I love everything about this top except the low front slit. I re-ordered it in the petite, hoping that would do the trick. It didn't; I could still see my bra. I tried tacking the V with a few stitches, but didn't like the look. The fix just looked odd.
The good - fabric is substantial, yet soft. White is not see through!!! Blue is beautiful, just as it appears on my monitor.

Sleeveless Shift Ikat Zig-zag - I went down one size. Fit was good, slim and not tight. Love the medium shade of blue with the darker blue piping detail, but for some reason I didn't think the color looked that great on me. I also wasn't comfortable with how short it got when I sat down, so I returned it.

  17. I just bought the sleeveless embroidered sunburst dress in xs and i really really like it. The length is a little abobe my knee and the fit is very flattering.
    It is a little sheer.

  18. I picked up the short sleeve oxford popover in stripe. Love it despite being skeptical when it was on the hangover. The longer length is nice for wearing with shorts or leggings. I also liked that there were only two buttons instead of a traditional buttondown style - the fabric and styling seems crisper.
