"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Nothing to vent about - every time I whine, they solve my problem, I'm thinking of hiring customer service to be my therapist.

    1. Ha ha , that's funny. For me it is miss or hit.

  2. I purchased the scroll link bracelet about 2 weeks ago and have worn it about 7 times; the 'gold' finish has rubbed off in several places. Not sure how but it's pretty disappointing that it can't last past a month; too bad since I really loved that bracelet.

Did I maybe get one from a bad batch?

    1. JenLynn, the same thing happened to mine and I had only worn mine twice. I love the style so much I'm debating whether or not to return it. This shouldn't happen to a $68 bracelet after only a few wears!!!

    2. Happened to mine, too! Just debating the same thing--to exchange or return. What did you two decide? Bad batch or bad design?

  3. This is not a vent but more of an observation : ) But looks like they changed the labeling. Really hard to tell what size something is and I need to look at the price tag to figure it out. That or I need to bring my reading glasses to the B&M to shop : ) Also every time I look at Crewcuts for Girls so many times I see items that I wish they made in women's size haha. They have some really cute stuff!

  4. My vent is that the colors in the online product images - and even in the catalog - often read SO different from the actual color of the item! I feel like I don't have this problem as much with other retailers (but maybe that's because I don't shop other retailers quite as often) ... does anyone else have this problem?

Yesterday I asked for thoughts on the Flower lattice Necklace, and FFM was kind enough to direct me to DaniBP's amazing review ... what amazing ladies, thanks! Anyway, I would have sworn the Multi colors in that necklace included soft but saturated shades of pink, but DaniBP's IRL images showed shocking, neon, clownish pink!

One of the reasons I love JC is the gorgeous colors, but WHY are they so often misrepresented in their product photos?

    1. That annoys me, too. Lands' End is even worse with inaccurate colors on the website.

    2. Ruffles, I have experienced this problem too--mostly it is with J.Crew but now that Jeanne mentions it I had a real doozy with Land's End last fall. It's very frustrating for me--I check the color on four or five different monitors before I order (I can't get to stores easily) and yet so often I am disappointed by the color. I just read a science story about how 15% of women have extra color receptors in their eyes, causing them to see color gradations others don't. This might go a long way to explaining why I am so fussy about color, and why I'm so often disappointed.

    3. Ditto on the color problems. I expect colors on my computer or iPhone screen to be off but not the print catalog. I ordered the linen tippi in cafe mint expecting it to be that pretty mint green that everyone is crazy about this season. Instead I received a neon green sweater. Now I love a bright green more than the average gal, but it went back pronto. So not what I was looking for!

    4. yes! the tippi sweaters were totally off! ive had this happen so many times

  6. Yah...I knew it. I paid full price for the porcelain paisley skirt. I have learned my lesson. Never paying FP for anything J. Crew every again. Grr!

    1. Grrr, me too! I thought that one wasn't going to make it to sale.

  7. Cate.....ME TOO! That skirt is one of the prettiest prints (IMO) I've seen Crew do, so I wanted to get it before it sold out. Ummm....I have done this a few times. I buy something (always a big colorful print) thinking it will be really popular, then it goes on sale....for months and months. They can't even give it away. Just take a look at sale....the same printed items have been on sale for months. So obviously, I'm wrong. I guess I'm in the small group who likes the big prints.

    1. Ha, I'm a sucker for the prints too. Does anyone else think the Porcelain Paisley skirt looks like it has the Kremlin printed on it? lol

  8. I feel a sale coming on....way too many stripes, dots and sequins sitting in the sale section for a long time (Some shortly after they came out) all those light sweaters, shorts, high sandals and summer skirts gotta go. I have looked at them so often I don't want them anymore. We all know that fall items
Biggest vent...I have NEVER had a price adj. given...had to reorder...What a waste of time. Carolyn from Vancouver

  9. Unknown....I think your feeling is most likely right on! I see this morning that everyone returned their polka dots skirts and crazy prints and now they are back on the sale pages! Geez. I guess if you missed it the first 25 times around you'll be happy to see them back again. I have some more to return today too. Mostly due to reordering at lower prices. I have the nicest SA's at my stores. They do price adjustments, call other stores for me, help me in anyway I need it. I'm sorry to hear you haven't had the best experiences.

  10. My online personal shopper who has been pretty great has stopped answering her emails after she ordered an incorrect item for me. I sent her 3 emails about the wrong order and never heard back. I know she has been back at work since her auto reply was on for the first email but not the other two. Now I am done. I disappointed and kind of sad. The item has since sold out. Why not email me back and just tell me that? Anyway, now I need to find a good online personal shopper.

  11. A.....I'm sorry to hear that! Gosh, I'd be so disappointed too! I've had a couple of really nice and helpful transactions with James Miller. He can be reached at James.Miller@jcrew.com. He helped me find an item that was sold out in my size and then when it when on sale he offered to do a price adjustment. He's very nice and friendly. Maybe he can search stores for your sold out item?

    2. A, would you mind sharing who your personal shopper is? I've had the same experience and am desperate to get ahold of my personal shopper as well! Just wondering if we have the same one.

    3. AD I don't want to put her name out there. Would you email me please at nestsweetie gmail

  12. A - I think out of office replies are only sent back to the first message from a sender so your PS may still be out ...

    1. Thanks Tiffany - maybe she is still out, but her auto reply said she would be back on June 21 and I still haven't heard back from her. I hope that she is OK, but it seems kind of odd at this point.

  15. Hello Ladies...This is not a "vent", however, wondered if any of you have tried to hand wash your Linen Swing Sweater? I purchased two before I noticed it was dry clean only...Any helpful hints for washing it? Thanks! :)

    1. Haven't tried it yet, but I will take my chances on machine wash, delicate cycle. I will turn it inside out and make sure it is either by itself or with other soft things that can't snag it. I'll hang it dry or dry it flat.

    2. Thank you, Cate! I'll give it a try...guess the good news is, if I ruin one of them, I still have one to send to Dry Cleaners! HA! :) Thank you again for a suggestion. :)

  16. I am joining the previous vents about the holes in t-shirts. After not having any problems, two of the "vintage" t-shirts have developed holes in the past two weeks. One of them had only been worn a handful of times.

Also, J. Crew doesn't send the prepaid return labels to customers in Alaska. I've been told they don't work up here, but when one of them sneaks through in an order, I hoard it and things seem to make it back just fine. It's a real problem since we don't have a store here.

    1. It costs me $48 to make a refund for the UK through J Crew - not good.

    2. Urrgh, no $56 - I can never make another return, it was for a small item, God knows what a jacket or coat would cost to return.

  17. Shopping Celle.....I ordered a green Tippi sweater this spring, waited forever for it bacause it was backordered, only to get it and yikes! Kinda crazy bright neon green. I looked like Kermit and frog. Returned it and bought the pretty Kelly green that is currently available.

  18. Vent on sizing :( The Factory double serge cotton skirt runs 1 size small, but the regular cotton pencil skirt (in navy) runs TTS to large. Also, the cotton pencil skirt is very lightweight and not a rich navy but kind of dull. Definitely not a longer alternative to either the Factory or Retail double serge cotton skirt. Also, not particularly pencil shaped -- more straight. Overall very disappointed; should have just purchased the double serge!

  20. Minor factory vent. I ordered a couple pairs of the facotry ballet flats because I love my pairs from the b&m factory store so much. The picture looked the same and they were $38 each, so I was pretty excited. They arrived this week and they are NOT the same and NOT as pictured. They look like different materials. The "leather" material looks more weathered than my existing pair which is smooth, and the trim is also thicker and rougher. The price is right so I may keep them, but once again, factory disappoints.

  21. I saw this at one of my store and almost shreaked like Joan Crawford! The new linen printed tunics were displayed on hangers! Tina how many times have I told you....NO HANGERS! Those tunics were stretched and hanging almost to the floor. Joan would be VERY disgruntled.

  22. Do the words "tissue" and "vintage" in J.Crew tee shirts mean the same thing as "disposable" and "Walmart quality for inflated price points?" They do in my home.

    1. Tammy, I do not even touch those pieces. The painter fabric was notorious in the same way. They have improved that fabric, but I'm not trusting the tissue or vintage.

  23. WHY does JC run a special all summer on swimwear when ALL of the size smalls are GONE?!?! So sick of this. If everybody is buying boy briefs in small, then MAKE MORE! These items aren't even on sale and yet they are still all snatched up. Makes no sense. It's only July 2.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I mean, can't we get a new arrival promo or SOMETHING for 4th of July? Free shipping?!?!?
