Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I posted some Talbots reviews here (ikat jacket, port stripe coat), and here (leopard-print bag).

  3. These mint colored loafters at ASOS are a great alternative to J. Crew's colorful Biellas: http://us.asos.com/ASOS-MACABEE-Patent-Loafer/xhi1x/?iid=1832976&SearchRedirect=true&SearchQuery=mint%20loafers&mporgp=L0FTT1MvQVNPUy1NQUNBQkVFLVBhdGVudC1Mb2FmZXIvUHJvZC8..

Leather linings and uppers. Good price (only about $68) and quality. They run maybe a touch big; I ordered at UK6, which is equivalent to a US8.5 and could have sized down. ASOS has these in orange and black with an ecru upper, too.

  4. Does anybody know of a code for Talbots? FS? Extra % off? There are a few small things I'd like to get, but the $8 shipping is discouraging. TIA!

  5. Why doesn't Anthropologie offer free shipping (or free shipping with a minimum)? I've already let a few things slip away because I'm too hard-headed to pay the $20. I was holding out on my pieces until February because they typically start their FS offers at the beginning of the month.

I recently posted about it here.

  6. InboxImpulse, I heartily agree. I just can't bring myself to pay shipping at Anthro, which is a shame because I have a cart full of stuff. If theye ven offered flat rate i would be all in.

  7. jacquelyn - I constantly refresh my cart to make sure that my last coveted items don't sell out! I hope there is a code soon because this is TORTURE!!

Free shipping is so common for online retailers.

  9. Let me add to the chorus in favor of Talbots 60% off clearance sale. Thanks to your comments I stopped in my local B&M and found a Leopard Jacquard coat (Sz 2 $59) and two double-faced wool jackets in colors similar to cool pine and heather acorn (Sz 2P $45). With the extra 10% off for signing up for the rewards card, thats about 82% off FP.

The only downside was sizing. I was told that Talbots doesn't offer a size 0. All of the size 2 skirts I tried were too big.

  10. Happened into my local Loft store today, and they had big markdowns on their winter clothes...almost all sweaters were $14.99, pants were all $19.99. I am not a big Loft fan, but did manage to find a nice wool"ish" pair of pants for dress (actually great looking for Loft!)- good price for the use I will get out of them!

  12. @(original) Genny- Thank-you, thank-you! There were a few small things I wanted, but refused to pay $8 shipping on a $14 pair of pants! YOu save the day for me!

  13. I just placed an order at Talbots immediately after getting the Facebook code e-mail. I am hoping all retailers will figure out that if they always had free shipping, their sales would go up! No way would I have bought a pair of shoes for $40 and paid $8 shipping... but with free shipping it was an autobuy. I have been lusting after the shoes for months, after all!

  14. The dahlia kitten heels at talbots (black with leopard bow) have popped back in several sizes... 10.5, 11, 8.5 and some other smaller sizes... Doubtful they will ship but I just ordered the 10.5 anyway with the free ship code. WOO!

  16. Count me in as another happy Talbots fan. Can't believe I'm old enough to wear Talbots! :-p

Got a silk shell for $20 (and it doesn't expose cleavage like the JCrew pocket cami does), a velveteen jacket for $30, and a stunning yet work-appropriate LBD for $35.
