Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER & FALL sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I was just in this past Tuesday, so I'm not sure if I'll be going back or not. I may just wait until the new arrivals hit the floor next week. The sale section at the Orlando B&M had several Metallic Beach Cardigans in the Silver in varying sizes, plenty of tees, a starfish dress (sorry, didn't check the size), a couple Cotton Pimm Skirts, one of the Camo Crinkled Chiffon skirts, and various other *usual suspects*.

  2. Hope to get into my B&M I would like to see if they have the Metallic Beach Cardi in the Gold.

OT but LE is having 25% off this weekend and I believe it includes Canvas. FS included if your order is $50 or above.

  3. Ya know what? Not on a bet.

No, let me rephrase: I am out on the east end of Long Island, where getting to a B&M requires effort, like getting in a car and driving even in good weather, and while I have been known to take a chance with a hurricane to dash to a store, this week's rollout does not inspire that kind of mad courage. Quite the opposite, in fact. Afraid sequins might act as lightening rod. So when we lose power, and we always lose power out here, I do not want to be the one in the feathery vest trying to convince the Audubon society that I am not a stranded endangered species in need of rescue.

  4. I think that I will, though I'm mostly interested in trying on sweaters which probably won't be out yet. I'll report back on what I see!

  5. still laughing, WFF, and I had to go sign in...

  6. I don't think I'll make a trip to my b&m, but I'm leaning towards a few items online. The Softspun sunrise dress is marked down (not final sale), and it could be perfect for a wedding brunch I have coming up. I think I'll be doing some ride alongs just to get to $100 and just return them later...

  7. WFF: too funny! good luck getting through the weekend!

Does anyone know if there is a promo on sweaters - like $20 off or something. I thought I read that somewhere and now I can't find it. I paid FP for the Rimini in Nutmeg (dumb) so I'm hoping to return it and then get $20 off plus use my rewards card! TIA!

  8. Lindsey B- I saw the $20 off sweaters in store last night at my local store! I don't know if they do that everywhere or how that works though?!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh, one more thing. I wanted to thank everyone who recommended the Coralie Cami -- I bought it earlier this week and I am in love!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Lindsey B. - I don't know about the sweater promo, but if it's in effect it should automatically be applied when the item rings up. Hopefully it's on all sweaters, but be prepared that it might be on 'select sweaters.' I'm just having a flashback to click on items in the sale section only to find out 'select colors' are on sale. Like only one or many. *lol*

  11. Definitely! I need the Metallic sequined bell skirt. It is a necessary addition to my ever growing collection of sequined minis and alas my size is only available in an NYC store. Let's hope I survive the labor day crowds.

  13. Something is wrong w/Blogger. I made a detailed post last nite about J'Crewlet (factory stores) and I don't see it. I subscribed to this thread at the same time & just realized I'm not receiving comments. If my post doesn't show up in a couple of hours, I'll re-post it.

I also recvd email notification of a new post to one of my threads and when I went to the thread it wasn't there even though I could see the poster's comments in my email.

  14. Dishska- just a warning on that skirt- I saw it and it was immediately LOVE! It is so perfect and beautiful IMO!

However, I have worn it twice- and it is so incredibly fragile! I noticed I had to be VERY careful about where I sat (certain chair coverings you will get stuck to)and it cannot even hang by certain things in the closet because it will get caught (or sometimes it just sticks to itself). It made me so sad.

  15. Is the sky blue? Do bears poop in the woods? LOL! I'll be poking around for sure, hoping most peeps will be out of town so I can find some treasures. ...

  16. Lindsey B- Didn't find anything on the sweater promo, but I did get the Dream draped V sweater for 49.50 today (was 88). I'm pretending that I am going to return it, but I loved it in store.

  17. I will not be stopping in.... spending the long weekend with DB and friends. I had my PS order the Moss tweed pencil skirt & Buffalo check boy shirt in autumn sunset yesterday, with a 20% off promo that I was offered. A few other things piqued my interest, but I'm going to hold off for now... trying to curb my shopping for near term, really great life changes! :-) Happy Labor Day to all!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Would love & appreciate to hear what the Notte Tweed pencil skirt or the Houndstooth Bomber are like IRL. TIA!

  19. WFF... OMG!!! I'm still laughing...TERRIFIC!!!!!

  20. Marietta, what does a girl have to do to get offered a 20% off promo by a PS? :-)

(I've tried twice to set up a relationship with a PS, once in the store and once online, but they don't seem to want my business. Perhaps they could *sense* that I am picky and not as free-handed with the CC as I used to be?)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I know this is a longshot, but if anyone has a 20% off coupon they will not be using, I will be happy to purchase it from you. I need to place a large order and would like a percentage off.

    TIA!!!

  23. OT, but have any of you guys tried the Mirabella Henley? I see ts on sale for $54.99...I think it went on sale after only being on the site for about a week.

I love the plum raisin color, and the silk and zipper detail. Anyone seen it or tried it out?

  24. Bunch of in-store promos:
    Case jewelry 25%
    belts $10
    Socks 20%
    sweaters 20%
    Minnie $20
    Scarves $10
    Matchstick & bootcut cords $69.50
    Waxed utility jacket $98
Perfect-fit crewneck long sleeve tees $19.50

    Happy shopping!!

  25. I was at the B&M yesterday and picked up the Rimini cardigan in black for 20% off (part of the 20% off sweaters promo). It looks great with the bronzed ochre double serge pencil skirt. They were also running a belts sale (can't remember if it was 10% or 20% off) and 25% off select jewelry.

  26. I have bit at some FP fall merch: the flouncette silk blouse in bayberry, the wool scarves in bayberry and the other colorway which is periwinkle tones, and then on FS I got the flouncette in paisley (how can it be on sale so soon) and the canterbury bells pencil skirt which dropped $20 in sale price in two days so I am glad I waited! I am a 12/14 depending on the top and it looks like these blouses weren't even made in 14 which is a disturbing trend....
I think I will skip B&M this weekend and hold tight.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am headed to the Barton Creek Square store in Austin in a while....waiting for the heavy rain to subside! I have quite a few online orders to return and plan to try on a few things....a few skirts and some tops ....and then will wait for them to go on sale! Makes FS a little less risky although everything I ordered FS is fine (denim bootcuts in pacific wash, denim utility jacket/shirt, abyss blue gingham shirt). I'll post again if there are any noteworthy items in store.

  28. I want to say last year they did do extra20 or extra30 + free shipping around labor day. Ahhhh. *reminisces*

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hexicon - I've had my PS for several years now, she is beyond awesome! Not sure how or why the 20% came about, but it was definitely appreciated. I do know it is on $150+ purchase. I thought all PS were doing this... I recall reading in a thread yesterday about someone else getting 20% off from their PS. As far as getting a PS.... it only works if you are comfortable with that person, they understand your needs, and are not pushy. Definitely hold out for the right fit for you, but once you establish that relationship, it's great!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Marietta, thanks for the info! Enjoy that moss tweed skirt. I guess I should try again to get a PS even though I am finding less to buy at JC. Of course, it's a bit circular--maybe if I had a PS to find me stuff and offer me discounts I'd buy more, LOL.

@Elaine, I checked my e-mails and last year they did a 20% off final sale merchandise on Sept. 8-10.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This 20% off sweaters and $10 off bootcut cords, is this all stores? And does that include all cashmere styles? That could get me in the car on Labor Day weekend...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was inspired by this post on Audreybella's blog to call my local Crewlet about the corduroy Eden. They said they'd hold a caramel brown one for me in 2 sizes. I drove all the way up there and they had one on hold and it was the wrong one. Anyway, as we previously discussed, outlets are for suckers so I left with $200 in merch, but no cord blazer. However, I'm very happy w/what I purchased:

    * 2 doggie tee (never even owned a dog)
    * wool schoolboy blazer
    * Jackie in a muted yellow gold sort of like the honeyglaze but not)
    * argyle v-neck sweater

  33. J Crew Factory Store aka J'Crewlet - tips

My Crewlet is in the Premium Outlets group. I'm not sure if Crewlets are only in Premium Outlets or are also in other outlet centers. Click here to see if there is a Premium Outlets near you.

You have to be VIP member (free) to gain access to their sales info. J Crew always has a 10% off $150 or more in the outlet center's coupon book. You have to go to the Visitor's Center to get the coupon guide, which has coupons inside of it for all of the merchants in the outlet center.

They are currently running the following promo of 20% off any purchase of $150 or more thru 9/7. I'm not sure if this is good at all J Crew Factory Stores or only thru the Premium Outlets. Note that you don't pick up the 20% coupon thru the Visitor's Center. You must know how to play the game, sucka! You have to print this coupon from your computer. It's a necessity because I got up there and asked about the promo and the Crewlet sa only knew about the 10% so I let it go, figuring she was right. It pays to be an informed, and thorough consumer these days.

Here are the current specials, according to the info on Premium Outlets:

    Womens:
    30% off all Women's Sweaters
    40% off all Women's Denim
    $29.99 Silk Ruffle Camis
    40% off Wool Schoolboy Blazers
    40% off Jewelry

    Mens:
    40% off all Broken-In Chinos
    40% off all Men's Denim
    30% off 5-Pocket Cords
    30-40% off all Men's Shirts
50% off all Men's Long-sleeve Solid and Graphic Tees

The schoolboys and jewelry were 30% off, so they bumped it up by 10% for the Labor Day weekend. They have the primrose garden pattern in a silk Kelsey style cami and in a cotton bell skirt. I will be going back to get a price adjustment on my items. If I calculated correctly, I should get a $50 difference. Because I'm a sucker, surely it will be spent on something else in the store.

Sorry I don't have time to post irl pics. I'll try to do it on the weekend or next week. The schoolboy in grey was worth the drive for me. I really love it. It's $168 before 40% and then you get 20% if your subtotal is $150 or more.

    HTH

  37. HA wff--you need your own blog--you would have quite a few devotees!

you all will find this amusing: I was up when the new arrivals hit the web. I grabbed the I+W collaboration tee then perused the other new things and 30 MINUTES LATER completed my sale. In the morning the tee was gone from site. Today dreaded email arrived that the T was sold out. IN HALF AN HOUR. I called the CS just out of curiosity, she told me there were 100 in each size and indeed all gone in hours. Also said that I am not the only loser who stays up waiting. she gets calls from Japan and Australia at new arrivals time...

    ReplyDelete
  38. My ps called me today to tell me about the 20% off offer in store over %150 if I make an appt. She said new arrivals next week, so I'll wait and go in then. I wonder if they'll extend the 20% off so I could get wool/cashmere Icon coat?? They're holding a few things for me too. Maybe I'll pop in this weekend to try a few things on first. I have 2 returns to make.....

  39. Don't know if there are any other Project Runway devotees on here, but last night's episode featured a bridesmaid dress-to-real-life-look challenge, and one of the dresses was from J.Crew -the "my bosom is wrapped in a bow" dress, aka bow monde dress. It was quite a transformation.

Of course, this season is mostly like watching "Designing cliques." Oh, the drama.

  40. Novo stripe wrap top (# 28560) is on sale at Tysons Galleria, VA, for $49.99. Gorgeous silk, although quite plunging for modest me, I wore a cami bra underneath to conceal cleavage.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I updated the list of links to irl pics/reviews. Just added irl pic of the silk cardigan ($19.99) to the bottom of the post.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry, just wanted to clarify my earlier post:
    belts $10 off
    Minnies $20 off
    scarves $10 off
regular prince - not that they are $10 and $20 :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. oh, and to the person who asked whether the sweater promo applied to cashmere - yes, there was a sign on the cashmere table too :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. do the in-store promos go through the weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  45. mommydearest,
Thank you soo much for that thorough update on the B&M promos. I've been not so patiently waiting for a promo of some sort to grab the marled cardi and a couple other sweaters. Looks like I'll be heading that way this evening! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Where do you get good cami or bandeau bras to wear when you don't want a full bulky cami, but need to disguise the beginning of cleavage, that aren't nude or black (or white, for that matter).

Mirabella Henley fits TTS to small. I am usually a small, bought the small, but the arms are TIGHT and and waist is tight (I carry my weight there; I weigh 127 pounds and am 5'6"). I feared going to a medium would look too big, especially if it gives as you wear it. I haven't worn it yet because I paid FP and don't think I want to keep it for that price. The dark burgundy is definitely more striking than the other color, but the other is still cute. The zipper is functional and is not just a detail (although I don't think you would ever change it much). HTH.

I will probably go to JC just to do a lot of returns to the crabby associates, and the cash register that takes 5 minutes per item (what IS the deal with that?). I am returning the silk motorcycle jacket even though it was FS. I cannot believe how ugly the fit is. It was super tight at the bottom, and loose under the pits/in the body. On the mannequin they absolutely have it pinned, it doesn't fit like that. I feel like MC Hammer from the 80's, or a old lady with an outdated "blouse" on. Eck.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Is ALL case jewelry 25% off in store? Uh oh. I have been stalking some of jewelry for so long.

BTW, I took two items in to my BM and asked them to have their tailor fix them, as I had heard of someone here doing that. It was a pair of silk shorts where the hem came undone after two wears (and it was a fishing line hem, WTH), and my palerma cami, the hem also came out, same stitch type. They are new items, no longer avaialable, why should I have to give them up (return) or pay a tailor to do it? Well, I felt stupid and don't want to go back ever b/c the manager was SOOOO ice-y and cold. Yikes. I would rather she have said no than hating me forever. Is my codependency showing?

  49. I don't think it is all jewelry- I think it is some but I could be wrong. Sorry that doesnt help much!

I had them tailor something that fell apart once! It should be no problem if their products are falling apart IMO!! They sent it out then called me when it was back in store no big deal.... sorry they were so rude to you about it!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mommydearest, thanks for the info. Is it $10 off all belts?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Amy: For the bandeau bras try F21 and American Apparel. I've seen a ton there! HTH

    ReplyDelete
  52. La Belle Helene: I was wondering if that was one of the J Crew bridesmaid dresses! Too funny. Well, I guess Jenna will never go on as guest judge now!

I need to stop in the B&M to get my son a new pair of jeans/pants for a wedding we're going to on Sunday. Will definitely check out the jewelry case. Is it ALL jewelry or select? I have been eyeing the crystal pebble necklace for a while....

    ReplyDelete
  53. J Crew love, it's been a couple weeks, and they haven't called, so I don't know what's going on. I called the store, confirmed the 20% off sweaters and 25% off case jewelry. $10 off FP belts, now would be a great time to get the metallic vintage military belt, cute around the waist and hip, would be $15! Runs small, IMO. Size up to get a more even "grommet" look. The riminis will sell out fast, she only had the nutmeg available, which I *think* I like better, but the cobblestone I am also tempted by.

    ReplyDelete
  54. And last night I swore I was done with J Crew, and look at my posts today. How bipolar of me (or borderline). I called CS last night to have them send another canterbury bells cardi, and wanted to rant, but they are so POLITE I just couldn't. BUT, I did write an email laying out my frustrations and making a sad comparison to Old Navy being more reliable lately. That should motivate 'em. I AM done with final sale after I am going to have to go to battle to return the AWFUL fitting silk moto jacket. I am (swear) only doing FS on stuff I KNOW fits. I was spoiled for a while getting away with FS not being marked on the receipt. They fixed that glitch.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hexi, you need to clean our your inbox, lol! Dang, girl! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Last post, I promise. I am new to J Crew, and have not tried on ONE pair of pants after trying these last winter, the fit was that bad on my body (casino pant):

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale/AllProducts/PRDOVR~19963/99101870136/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~20+17+4294967074~90~~~~~~~/19963.jsp

I have been scared of "tapered" legs ever since. The picture looks better than they did on me. I carry my weight in my tummy, but my limbs are skinny. These made me look like a shiny apple wrapped in holiday gift wrap. Anyway, my point is, which "fit" is this comparable to a J Crew, so I can purposely avoid it instead of avoiding off pants that are not boot cut?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Guys, I do watch Project Runway, but it's still on my DVR. Please BE CAREFUL OF SPOILERS. Argh.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Amy, it was $10 off all full-price belts. I got both colors of the dressage belt and neither rang up with the $10 off. So I had to ask the SA fix it. And yes, the sign for the jewelry said "in-case only". My jewelry rang up correctly. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ohhh, not F21 but the AA ones are close, like this:

    http://www.americanapparel.com/rsals341.html?cid=219

Even slightly higher coverage for work would be great. I have more needs than "most" people in this regard, I have pectus excavatum, (funnel chest) that I was obviously born with, so even scoopnecks for me can look cleavage-y, even though I am only a b cup. the depth of my chest bone makes many tops out of question for work, or even casually. The perfect fit j crew tank is a good example, I am pulling that thing up constantly. My dream is a bandeau bra, with a decorate middle (cleavage) panel that goes up higher than the bra, with better headlight coverage than many so I could skip a regular bra all together. And NOT in a lingerie color, or it looks like lingerie and not a cami.

    ReplyDelete
  60. JCrew in Burlingame, CA had the Waxed Utility Jacket on special promotion for $99! There was no signage or marking on the item!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Popped into the B&M to make a return. I knew I should just do the return and leave. But no, I stopped to look around. Thought I'll innocently try on a few items. Brought home the Femme Camo Delancy Pant. I think they'll be cute with a cami and heels. Found out about the 20% sweater promo and went ahead and ordered the cody cashmere in warm honey I've wanted for months. But I'll be heading back tomorrow probably because I have other sweaters on my wishlist. I've been waiting for the sweater promo!

  62. Belle de Jour,

I saw that picture and studded jacket on Wed. and ordered it right away! Why can't JCrew have cute jackets like Sundance for fall? This is my first order with Sundance. Looking forward to seeing the items I ordered in person.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Amy,

I did post once about a tailor at JCrew fixing my defective items several times that I bought in store. However, the defects were evident when I bought them and were repaired the same day I bought them. I had this done on a dress, a cami, a pair of jeans and a skirt. 3 of the 4 times my PS offered the service to me. The other time I asked.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Amy,

P.S. I think it was a good idea for you to take the items in and at least ask....in the end you got what you wanted and needed--the items repaired!

    ReplyDelete
  65. No more shopping for me this weekend. I already placed an order today for two pencil skirts and three pairs of chinos using my 20% off catalog code and I ordered two pairs of lightweight wool pants from BR on Wednesday (40% off code plus rewards card).

I'm also working on hemming three pairs of JC wool crepe pants I bought last month and altering several skirts I bought from Talbots recent final sale. I'm also going to attempt to alter several pairs of ill fitting wool gabardine pants I bought at Talbots a couple years ago. They're a little big, odd shaped and unflattering, but I love the fabric so I'm hoping I can salvage them.

Amy and Jcrewlove, I would never have thought of asking the store to have something tailored when it fell apart, but that's a great idea. I just repaired the second leg hem on my charcoal stretch cotton bistro pants last night. One leg hem disintegrated the first time they were washed and the other leg hem disintegrated the second time they were washed. The thread literally dissolved! I can't imagine what kind of cheap thread they're using. Very disappointing. I haven't dared to check the black pair yet, but I suspect it's falling apart as well.

    ReplyDelete
  66. OT and I hope I don't get roasted for this but just want to pass it on. I received an email from Talbot's today saying there are new items added to their sale and it is buy one get one 50% off. The details are also on the sale section of their website here.

I would give one of the Dream sweaters a try if J.Crew would extend the 20% promo to online sweaters this weekend. Maybe it will be there when I wake up tomorrow.

Hope everyone enjoys their long weekend!

  67. SHOE SALE ALERT -- check out Brooks Brothers web site for the shoe markdowns. You can skip some, well, ok, more than some, but I ordered high heeled loafers, leather lined, leather soled, originally abt $300, for $99. See what happens when you stay home on a rainy day....

    ReplyDelete
  68. Very off-topic, but does anyone have a Talbots code? I'm *almost* sure there was one in the Sept (denim) catalog for 20% and free shipping through September, but it got thrown out. (Not by me, natch.)

    ReplyDelete
  69. mommydearest: Try code 026505839 for 20% off at Talbots. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. A little off topic but I just received my Turkish Delight pencil skirt and noticed that it says "Made in China" inside while the J. Crew website is marketing it in the description as "Made in Italy". This was a final sale item. Would this incorrect write-up qualify this as being returnable? Did anyone else notice this?

  71. I'll be visiting on Monday morning and just hoping that these promos are still happening and that there are some good things left. :) I'm very interested in the rimini cardi, although it will be months before it's cool enough here to wear it. So now I have to decide do I go with it now with the 20% promo or wait and keep my fingers crossed for a markdown? hmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Mathteacher-I know what you mean. I'm contemplating which sweaters to pick up. I also like the Rimini. But there are some newer sweaters I'd really like to get as well. I might get the rimini this time around as it's been out longer. The new arrivals will be around.

    ReplyDelete
  73. FFM, thank you so much!! Do you happen to know if it can be used in-store also? Shipping is $18!! And they don't have what I was looking for online :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. I started a post here on my blog with irl pics from my visit to J'Crewlet. I will continue/finish the post on Sat.

    ReplyDelete
  75. mommydearest: I'm surprised you didn't get the $5 September Savings shipping. Are you signed up for the rewards card?

I think the code is only online, but it's worth trying to use it in the store...you just never know. You might also just tell them that your coupon got thrown out by accident and see if they'll still honor it. Good luck! :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I am signed up for Talbots rewards and I did not get any 20% off coupon in my recent denim catalog??? or the $5 shipping. I do get their emails. Usually I just wait for free shipping offers like recently--end of July-- they had free shipping on $100 order and everything was 1/2 off in the sale and outlet section. I made out very well. There hasn't been that good of offer the past month.

Wonder how you get the discounts though???

    ReplyDelete
  77. Bostanna, I am wondering if it said the fabric is from Italy, but it was made in China? This is often the case when they mention those famous mills in Europe . . .

Yes, I would take them to task for this if it bothers you. One thing that bothers me is when they call something Collection but then it arrives without any tag saying such. It makes it feel like the Collection designation is something they can just make up on a whim to justify a higher price at the last minute.

  78. I did place an order this morning, a jacket for my husband, a heather nordic blue Dream sweater and a few miscelaneous sale shirts for me. I'm good until the next rollout now. Thank you to jcrew1985 for sharing her 20% off code with me, that was so generous and very much appreciated.

I had it in my cart but changed my mind on the moss tweed pencil skirt after reading the fabric content is polyacrylic/poly/mohair/viscose/cotton. I'm leery of synthetic fabrics and I was also a bit surprised at the shorter length, which I thought was just for their summer pencil skirts. Another cost-saving measure, no doubt. Green is not one of my favorite colors anyway but I would probably try it on a deeper discount, if it ever gets there.

Has anyone tried the moss tweed pencil skirt? Is the waistband well tailored or is it like this year's double-serge wool skirts? TIA

  79. @ Bostanna

I would absolutely return the skirt if you are displeased. The website does indeed say Made in Italy.

Good luck! It does look like a beautiful skirt.

I am also a Talbots rewards member and did not get any notice of a shipping special! I did get the 20% off coupon in my catalog though :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Genny, I've signed up for the Talbots reward card too, and I receive e-mails, but I haven't received any blanket discount or free shipping promos. Hmm.

@Corry: based on my Collection cashmere experience I think calling something "Collection" at the last minute to jack up the price is exactly what JC *does* do. Not in every case, as some of my older Collection items are truly outstanding, but in some cases.

@Bostanna: I have the Turkish Delight skirt and I love it. If you read the website copy carefully, the antecedent for the "it comes from Raffi" parenthetical is the jacquard fabric, not the skirt itself, but if you found it confusing and deceptive, call them on it! No doubt they wanted to leave the impression that this is an Italian-made skirt.

JC is certainly no stranger to disingenuous promises--"Cardmember-only invitations to private sales" anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  81. @Bostanna: Oops, correction to my prior post--at the bottom it does indeed say "Made in Italy." Wow!!!! And here I was going to let them off on a grammatical technicality! Let 'em have it!

    This is interesting...bring preppy back!

  83. OT - So J. Crew has modernized themselves for better or worse, and out comes Lisa Birnbach's new "True Prep" - what it means to be preppy now. I watched this video and can see she's made several references to J. Crew on the pages, but I'm wondering how J. Crew will respond.

I sure wouldn't wear the pleated chinos shown even though I have plenty of Ralph Lauren and old J. Crew. I will be buying her new book to add to my old beat up "The Official Preppy Handbook". I think the preppy books are entertaining pop culture that sometimes has a bit of thinly disguised good advice.

    http://www.newsweek.com/2010/09/03/the-preppy-handbook-updated.html

Does anyone else have an old beat up "The Official Preppy Handbook"? I got mine used from an Amazon bookseller years ago along with the Sloane Ranger versions from the UK (I loved Diana too!).

  85. Any thoughts on the 20% off sweater promo going to online customers too? I know we have been waiting for that :-D

    ReplyDelete
  86. OT- I got my mail this morning and in it was a jcrew newspaper of sorts. Like a big paper catalog that was folded in half. What is interesting was that there was also a similar style newspaper/catalog only smaller from Ann Taylor Loft. I know it's been discussed here before how Loft is trying to be like Jcrew so I thought it was funny that I would receive both of these publications on the same day and that they would be so similar in style. One difference I would like to point out is that the one from Loft had coupons on the back!!!

Also- does anyone know if I can cancel an item on backorder? I ordered a puffer coat and didn't realize that the hood does not come off.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Does Lisa Bernbach say if this year's model preppies wear Flounceyette, the fabric named for the back-up singer who was dumped by Junior Samples for her twin, Floozeyette?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Ibelleconner, you can cancel a backordered item. I have done it several times. I have done it both by phone and by email- oontact us. If you choose email just include the order number and product name. They usually respond within a day.

    Have a good weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  89. lbelleconnor,

Yes, you can cancel an item on backorder-- as long as it hasn't shipped yet--of course! Sometimes backordered items ship sooner than expected and I have been caught off guard!

I have cancelled several backordered items over the years. NO problem.

  91. Pathos-I'm sure there will be a 20% sweater promo online soon. I am hoping within the next 2 weeks.

I went into the store today because there were online sweaters I wanted to order. You can use the red phone to order a sweater with the stores promo as long as it isn't an internet/catalog only item. You can figure that out by looking at the J Crew website.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I posted yesterday, but thought I would renew my request. If anyone is not using their J Crew 20% off coupon that expires tomorrow, I would be thrilled to purchase it from you. I need to place a rather large order and this would help! TIA!!!

  93. OT - Does anyone own a Bella Jacket that can help me out with the measurements on a size 10 or size 12. I just bought the velvet blazer in size 10 and it fits perfectly but I am not sure if that would apply to a Bella.

    Thanks in advance.

  94. I went to the B&M today to do a couple returns. I was going to return the shirred merino cardigan that I had bought for $49.99 on sale, but it was down to $24.99. They gave me a price adjustment. For that price, it's a deal! I also picked up the bronze colored sparkle waves henley for $14.99 and the Pilar perfect shirt for $29.99. I think I got some great bargains! I'm going in next week for my appt. w/my PS to get 20% off. One of the things I want to get is this adorable grey tweed blazer that they just got in. It is so cute! It's like a shrunken boy's blazer. It's $198, but w/my %20 off I think I'll bite. I have a feeling my size will sell out otherwise. Also, while I was there, I tried on the Drea dress which I had really been wanting and you know what? It didn't look good on me at all. So that will be a pass. They had these very pretty bronze ballet flats on sale for $69.99. Maybe if they get marked down and have a % off....

    ReplyDelete
  95. Oh, forgot to mention they had these new 100% merino "sweatshirt-style" sweaters. They had one bronze colored one that I loved. It was the last one, and in my size and 20% off, so I grabbed it. I have one in grey from this past spring that I love.

  96. Thanks JCAs for the shout out. Went to the 5th Ave store & sweaters are 20% off, belts & scarves $10 off, Minnie $20 off & I was able to apply my student discount on top of that. Was able to get another dressage belt (the black) for $38, the veridian green silk scarf for $25, merino boyfriend sweatshirt for $47, metallic vintage military belt for &12.75, smooth leather belt $19, stretch wool minnie pants for $66.

  98. OT: Hey ladies inquiring about the Talbots shipping promo. I didn't receive anything in the mail or email...actually I never even received a 20% off coupon with my catalog. I was able to find the code I posted online, and when I tested it out, it automatically changed the shipping to $5 and noted it as "September savings" at checkout. I think that should work for everyone if you use the code I posted. HTH! :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. On topic now: I was able to make it out to the mall in order to take advantage of 20% off sweater promo. I was able to re-buy the marled cardigan with the sale price, and also tried on several different cardigans, including the Alpaca Long Cardigan , Arrow Sweater Jacket , Merino Silvana Cardigan (in both colors), Plaid Boyfriend Cardigan , and Ciel étoilé cardigan .

I really like the Alpaca Long Cardigan and ordered it in Heather Umber, size XSmall from the red phone since they didn't have my size in the store. I'm sure there is more than likely going to be some pilling on this one, but I do love the length and the comfort level it gives when wearing it. I think it's going to look really cute with a tee, bootcut or flare leg jeans, and clogs this fall. I would consider getting this one in the Black, too.

The Arrow Sweater-Jacket is really lovely IRL...such a nice change from so many of the sweaters that have been offered over the past year or so. I think it fits TTS, as I wear my normal XSmall in it. This one is definitely worth the price with the 20% off promo. I got the Heather Carbon and may consider another color, as well. It will be perfect for the Florida winter.

The Silvana was on my wishlist but has now been removed from it because neither color is flattering on me, and I didn't care for the fit...sort of boxy and the embellishment in front made the sweater hang funny when left open.

The Plaid Boyfriend cardigan has also been removed from my wishlist after trying it on a second time. It fits in the XSmall, but looked funny at the chest area...maybe I'm just not filling it out enough, but there did seem to be excess room from the chest to the upper arm area. Hard to describe online, but trust me...it was not flattering at all.

The Ciel étoilé cardigan is very pretty, especially in the Natural color, but boy is it ever short. The description says hits at hip, but I am short-waisted and it hit me at the middle of my lower abdomen. Even with the promo it was a pass for me.

The sale section has plenty of tees, Metallic beach cardigans in the silver, Bettina camis in all sizes and colors, Dot Chiffon Betsy wrap camis (this one is SO cute! I had tried it on in size 0 at the store the other day but it was too large. Then I saw it was online in size 00 and ordered it. The fit is perfect and the cami is very flattering, too. I'm glad I took the chance and ordered it). There were several Paisley Flouncette blouses in sizes 6 and up. There was one size 0 left which I ended up getting. Love this one, too! Definitely need to wear a cami underneath, but the color, pattern, and silhouette are very pretty. It looks great under a blazer, too.

Oh also need to mention that all sale items in the B&M's are NOT final sale. :)

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

  100. OT again: Regarding the Talbots codes. I just tested their site again. When I signed in to my account without a code it was charging full shipping, so the $5 ship doesn't have anything to do with being a rewards member (as I thought might be the case). However, when I use the code it applies 20% off and gives the $5 shipping promo.

    ReplyDelete
  101. @Jruby18 et al.: How do you get the 20% off with your PS at B&M? Did you have to get it with the "shop & share" program where you bring 3 more people in for an appointment and as long as they make any purchase and you purchase $125+ you will get 20% off?
I have a PS but I've never just been offered a 20% off purchase for making an appointment.
I'd appreciate any kind of feedback so I can try to see if they can set me up with another PS?

    ReplyDelete
  102. @FFM: The Plaid Boyfriend Cardigan seems to run big for me. I tried my normal size Small and it was loose in the arms and the sides but when I sized down it was a bit too snug to layer a long sleeve underneath.

I complained about the vanity sizing these days since I know there are so many other petite ladies than I am and who are surely to be sized out. One of the manager at B&M told me it's the "boyfriend" look and that's why things are running big. It's ridiculous they can't make the sizing more consistent even if they are going after the slouchy look. 2c...

    ReplyDelete
  103. Jcmama, I happen to have a PS who has my phone number and called to tell me about it, but I'm pretty sure I saw a sign in their window advertising it today when I was at the store. All you have to do is ask one of the salespeople! A few weeks back, one of the salesppl told me about that bring 3 friends deal - yeah, right! LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. @Jruby18: thanks for letting me know. So you actually did not have to bring 3 or more people for this appointment? My PS sends me emails at new arrival times (though not all the time) but he insists I can ONLY get the 20% when I make an appointment with more than 3 people I can bring.

Now, I need to get a different PS!

    ReplyDelete
  105. JCmama, my ps had told me about that bring 3 ppl deal before. I think this 20% promo is just starting now.

    ReplyDelete
  106. jcmama,
I'm heading in next week after new arrivals for an appointment with my PS. They are also offering 20% off a $150 purchase. They offered this in July as well. August was the shop and share event (the 3-5 people thing). This one is definitely different. All I needed to do was come in for an appointment with my PS to get the discount.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Emily,
I have a size 10 velvet Bella anda size 10 velvet Eden and both fit great. If you want exact measurements I can give them to you but not until I return home on Wed. to see my jackets in person.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I got the 20% off a $150 purchase with a ps on top of the 20% cardigan purchase (and other promos.) That made a Jackie cardigan $39 and the marled cardigan $82. The crewneck perfect shirt are on promo for $19.50, so with the 20% came to $15.60. Great deals!

  110. @Elizabeth,

YES on the Preppy Handbook! Got mine in a used bookstore after attending prep school (and suffer from culture shock) in the late 80s.

Funny how the article described J.Crew as the irreverent preppy. I actually don't see a hint of preppiness in their clothes anymore... except the madras shirt/short last season.

    ReplyDelete
  111. IMHO Talbot is actually more preppy than JC. Look at their summer rollout - cotton candy pink, grass green and critters!

    ReplyDelete
  112. FFM- thank you for the reviews! You inspired me to go in and try some sweaters.

Also, the 20% off purchases of 150 or more? I am heading to a B&M today, and I am going to ask one of the sales asst. about this (hopefully the gal I like is there!)

  115. @Genny. Thank you. Do you happen to know how they compare to the newer 10's. Are they smaller because of the vanity sizing? I tried on the velvet schoolboy blazer in a 10 this year and that fits me. I may take you up on the measurements on wednesday.

That is definately NOT a jcrew site. Click on the privacy notice - they are using RL name too.
Jcrew lawyers will have that down by Tuesday AM if not earlier.
I am sure the cease and desist are being drafted now. I am not sure how they even got that up there.
Jcrew should thank you for the research.

  118. Emily,

NOT a JC site, for sure. When you go to the Privacy Notice (bottom right is the link), there is a ralphlaurenpolo.net blurb. Also there are no links to Global Site or Store Locator, so it's a scam.

    Don't fall for it.

  120. OT-- FYI Talbots code
The one posted is for someone that lives in New York.... they actually gave me her name but I will not post it. They have blocked that code. HOWEVER, I didn't know that all you have to do is give them your customer # from the back of your catalog and that will work for the 20% and $5 shipping. Customer Service was VERY nice and applied it to an order I placed and haven't received yet.

    ReplyDelete
  121. OT: Just wondering what others have purchased with the Talbots code??? I got the velvet leopard coat and am anxiously awaiting its arrival! :)

    Rose: Thanks for the link.:)

Pathos: You're welcome! I hope you find something you like, too. :)

Milljcrew: That's very interesting to hear. I guess that woman must have posted her code on retailmenot to share with everyone, but it appears as if Talbots doesn't want them shared at all? Thanks for the tip about using your customer # off of your catalog. Do you know how long that's good for?

  124. Speaking of Talbot's..
    I just returned from Marshall's
where I snagged a sweet jacket from Talbot's! It was 199.00 originally down to 29.99- was in the petite section. Saw a few different clothing pieces from T's.
as well as two different style purses. :) Anyone else see Talbot merchandise at TJMaxx or Marshall's?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Not sure when the code expires.. but went to a store today and they also gave me 20% off plus $5.00 off for trying on a pair of jeans... They have some REALLY nice fall pieces out. Well made, classic... I have a list started. It was nice to finally try some of these on.

I picked up.... leopard print heels, leopard print belt (if anyone else needs an XS there are only 17 left in the whole inventory), red season wool sheath - fit is great (might have to get the camel also) , cropped herringbone trousers (Matches an old Crew herringbone vest I have perfectly)- LOVE!

Wishlist.... Black Satin trench - beautiful cut... just don't think I will wear enough... Wide-leg glen plaid herringbone (Fit is great). Silk tops...

  128. @Heather: thanks for letting me know the differences in these offers. I feel cheated by my PS all these time. Granted, maybe he felt like doing not much for me since I wasn't his top client.
I'm going to get a different one the next time I go in to the store.

Instead of allowing certain people who can go to B&M to take advantage of these PS % off offers, why oh why can't JC send out 20% coupons to all catalog customers?! I have yet to receive one in the mail and I'm a JC Silver card holder {oh yeah, which has no meaning what so ever} and have yet to receive any % coupon like I do from other retailers.
    Sorry for my rant.

  129. I went to my B&M and came home with a few unexpected goodies! I got the khloe jacquard cami on sale. Most of my finds were not on sale, unfortunately. That would include the velvet schoolboy blazer in dark plum. The color is beautiful. I also finally bit on the crushed jacquard pencil skirt. I would love to know how you ladies are styling this one, as I am really not sure what to pair with this and dirty man boots à la website are not an option ;) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I also picked up a multi color wool mini with zippers on the front. This one seems to be in store only. It is short, but will be lovely with tights. Thanks to my professor hubby tagging along, I got the 15%
    educator discount :)

  130. OT:Talbots,
I went into Talbots today for the first time and though there were a lot of items in the catalog that I was interested in, I didn't see any of those items in the store. They didn't have the cute sweater jackets or some of the tops I liked online. Has anyone else had this experience? Do they only have certain items in select stores? I really wanted to find something...

    ReplyDelete
  131. Weird - the Collins dress (Fall 09?) just popped back in navy size 0, $129. I would expect a one-year-old item, possibly used, to be discounted more than that. Probably a good thing that I'm not a size 0. :)

    ReplyDelete
  132. @ Stella Please post a photo of the Leopard Coat when you get it...love it.

Juliebee I had the same experience at Talbots this weekend. I want to try their cords on but I got there at the end of the day and was too tired. I was hoping to see their boyfriend cardigan and the ribbed cardigan. Lovely skirts in there, and there was a % off on their cashmere.

I popped into JC but its a smaller store and did not see anything. After reading FFM's description of the Arrow sweater I may swing up there today.

I spent my money online w/ LE Canvas.
