The email features the Tretorn® Canvas T56 Sneakers (Item 18317; $68.00) which are described as:
Established in 1891 and considered the first luxury sport shoe, Tretorn sneakers— synonymous with good taste and practicality— have been worn on (and off) tennis courts around the world. This lightweight canvas shoe, inspired by a vintage sneaker from the 1950s, epitomizes everything we love about the iconic Swedish brand and features new, exclusive colors you won't find anywhere else. Each pair comes with two sets of laces: white and dyed to match.I have to admit, there is something lovely about the classic style of these sneakers. But in all fairness, I might be biased considering I still wear Converse Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers. ;)
Lastly, the Final Sale section (click here) once again updated this morning with several additions (including lots of popbacks). As usual, I was too late to enjoy the update. By the time I got there, all I could see were the ghost pages (mocking my poor timing). Hopefully some JCAs out there scored some amazing deals! :)
What are your thoughts on the Tretorn sneakers? Do you like or dislike the style? Do you think this is a good partnership/ fit with J.Crew's offerings? :)
LOVE the comfort of Tretorns, but I prefer the style of the solid background/ contrast swoop. The solid color is too Keds IMO. A good pair of Chucks trumps all though, I'm with with you on that, Alexis!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the Tretorns for spring, especially with skirts for a casual look. I'm a Jack Purcell girl but like the slightly more feminine look & grab-n-go-light-weightness of the Tretorns.
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable, given today's technology, that these shoes used to be worn on the courts!
Didn't Meredith Grey wear these in navy all the time? (I'm behind on my Anatomy episodes!)
Newp. These are not for me. I hear the sound of money settling happily into my wallet and checking account for spring, and it's a lovely sound indeed -- and one I haven't heard in a long time! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think they look great in the catalogue but not great on my size 10 feet. They seem wide, much like J.Crew flats make one look as though they have duck feet. So I returned them and bought a pair of Bensimons, which I think are cuter and cheaper. I noticed they are selling these in crewcuts now-very cute!
ReplyDeleteI agree! A: I also prefer the Bensimons! I bought some for my daughter from crewcuts in the fall, she wears them as her indoor school shoes. I wish I had a pair too!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Bensioms and I wear a 10-11. Where do you buy them? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGenny, Bensimon is a French company. They make really cute sneakers in gorgeous colors. I'm not sure where to buy the adult version in North America, I've been hoping JC would start carrying them. They have a cool website: bensimon.com HTH!
ReplyDeleteThey're nice, but I prefer my Chucks.
ReplyDeleteI got mine on Moxie.com which is a really cool site that sells a lot of independent designers. I think you can also get them on shopbop, but moxie usually gives first time customers 15% off their first purchase and you can opt for a percentage of your purchase to be donated to charity at no extra cost. Also, everything comes gift wrapped which was a lovely surprise. No, I don't work for moxie.
ReplyDeleteBensimons run small and a 42 is the largest woman's size which is a snug 10. I would suggest ordering the men's version if you have larger feet.
Also on Zappos
ReplyDeleteI think these are super cute but I bought a pair last year and they killed my feet--almost no arch support at all and they seemed to have a ton of rough spot inside to rub on your feet and give you blisters. Socks might help, but these were a definite no for me.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone comment on the sizing for these shoes ? They look real cute ! TIA !
ReplyDeleteBensimons has a US website with free shipping in US:
ReplyDeletehttp://bensimonusa.com/
More Bensimons research, endless has them with free 2 day shipping, and also some Madewell stores seem to carry them.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered a pair!
I really like the look of tretorns. I recently bought a pair from 6pm.com for $25.00 including shipping. I don't know if regular tretorns fit differently than the jcrew ones, but I found them to be true to size-I wear a 10
ReplyDeleteLoving the pink. I'm a flip-flop girl though...
ReplyDelete* and by pink I clearly mean "warm wisteria"....
ReplyDeleteItalian sneakers called Superga are very cool and a bit more unique. Try Zappos for them.
ReplyDeletelove Tretorns! I wore them in high school... waaaaay back in the day. Fun to see them at J Crew :)
ReplyDeleteI second the Supergas! Now at heart, I'm a Converse girl (I own 27 pairs!), but I've been branching out lately and really do like Superga. Try 6pm.com or Smartbargins.com for good deals. I just got a suede pair of Supergas in Orchid for 35$ that is very similar to the Warm Wisteria color.
ReplyDeleteI get my retro-sneaker fix from my Jack Purcells but these are cute too. By the way, I love that they carry Jack Purcells in crewcut sizes!
ReplyDeleteAlas I think I may be too *old* for Chucks, Vans and Bensimons! I don't want to wear my running shoes all around, though.
ReplyDeleteSo, I just ordered these in stone. I'm planning on wearing them without socks with shorts and cafe capris this spring/summer.
i love my chucks... got them in black and grey. love them with skinny jeans, trouser jeans, cotton straight leg pants, bermudas... i'd try them with dress pants too, except all my dress pants are hemmed for heels. i had tretorns in high school and echoing another post here, they hurt my feet...
ReplyDeleteI chime in on the Supergas! Have worn those since Ralph Lauren stopped making his canvas sneakers a few years ago. Was so excited when they were on Rue La La last year and I snagged three pairs at an amazing price.
ReplyDeleteI like the 1980's Tretorns best. They were so comfy! Anyone who likes Bensimons should check out Tom's shoes. They are a similar style, and the company gives away a free pair to charity for each pair that you buy. And they're cute, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Tretorns are OK, but I hardly ever wear sneaks as it is and these have zero support, I may as well be wearing flip flops.
ReplyDeleteWith a nod to the boatshoe trend I bought a pair of Sperry "Bluefish" mules as a summer casual shoe. I'm a sucker for plaid and these are super cute, the stock photos do not do them justice. The construction and materials will provide comfort for years and I know I'll wear the Bluefish tons since they slip on/off. Classic prep.

Pass.
ReplyDeleteTried a pair of Jack Purcells last year - I just cannot get over the Bozo factor ( on my size 7s) with that style of shoe.
Recently ordered a pair of traditional white tretorns - very comfy and much more my style.
