J.Crew Email: A lovely layer (plus, FREE SHIPPING)

"Thanks!" to Marietta, who shared the latest email J.Crew sent today.

The email features the Corwin Cardigan (Item 24573; $89.50) which is described as:
A wear-with-all cardigan, featuring a gently twisted neckline and a slightly longer length—we're wearing ours with skinny jeans and belted over shorts.
J.Crew is also reminding us about their offer for 30% off any purchase from Final Sale {no minimum} and free shipping {on $150+} with promo code EXTRA30. This offer is good through this Wednesday, 1/27/10. This promotion is a great one for customers and for J.Crew (as items are selling out fast!) :)

What are your thoughts on the Corwin Cardigan? Do you like or dislike the style of the cardigan's neckline?

  1. looks really similar to the forever cardigan

  2. Another "twist" on a similar style... I like that it's not as long as my forever cardigan.
My wardrobe has all the colors offered in this style and I'm not willing to pay this much for a whisper thin cardigan.
However I'd like to get it if it's deeply discounted.

  3. Have it & looove it. Pefect length as the forever cardi is just way too long for me.

  4. I bought this and returned it. I still can't find a long cardigan that doesn't look frumpy on me. Also, the fabric is very thin, and this year's merino from JC has been falling apart on me. Last year's has held up fine. Today I am returning my maya cardi, which I like, but I have worn it a total of 3 times and now it looks like it's falling apart.

  5. I do like the look of this cardigan, and I'd like to add a long cardi to my wardrobe. However, Gap has a long cardigan(maybe not as long as the Corwin, but long enough), and at $49.50, I think I'll be checking that one out first.

  6. I like it but don't love the picture - I can't tell if the neckline is twisted or just wrinkled. Same with the online pic - just doesn't show it off that well on the model. I may consider this, but prob not at FP. But you never know, I could try on in store and fall right into the crewlade.

  7. I tried this on in store and didn't care for it on me. It just hung there and was unflattering. I'm bummed I missed out on Michelles and Portlands. :(

  8. I actually like the Forever cardigans better. They're so snuggly, and I like the colors offered better than this one. The berry and bright hydrangea colors are tdf. I most likely won't be trying this one out, but they're a good option for those who need a shorter-long cardi.

  9. I don't particulary like or dislike the neckline. If I had to choose, I would rather it flat vs twisted. I have so many other cardigans (Michelle, Forever, etc), but I liked two particular in-store colors this one came in and I would like to add to my closet. However, a bit too much at FP, so I will only get with a discount or if on sale.

  10. Kristin,
You are right. I have the Michelle and Portlands and they are much nicer than this newer style.

  11. As an aside, I ordered the vintage roadster boots in black (size 8.5) and it has had a bit of a mishap with UPS! check it out:

  12. Kelly Ann,
I am pretty sure you won't be getting your boots:(

  13. Kelly Ann - I'd call JCrew customer service and let them know so they can send out another pair!

  14. The cardi looks OK, but I like a bit of a more substantial fabric for a longer cardi. My library shawl from last year still looks great, and this year's longer mohair cardi is on weekly rotation. I feel like merino is too thin, especially in a flat knit, to be anything other than a pretty topper to an outfit.

In this pic though, as far as looks, WHF: those pants? Are they motocross pants to go with the grommet bag? I really don't have a hardware aversion, but I feel like JC is not only late in jumping this bandwagon, but it isn't really a trend that goes with the brand's image.

Kelly Ann, sorry about your UPS problem. I agree with ARL, definitely call CS. They'll deal with UPS and will hopefully get you sorted with a new pair quickly. Good luck!

  15. Wow, Kelly Ann, it sounds like someone stole your boots right out of the shipping box! :O

I don't see anything special about that cardigan. It's too thin for my taste and there's nothing about the style that would entice me to buy. OTOH, I'm really enjoying my BR merino cardigans (beige, brown, black) that I bought in the after Christmas sales. I'm kind of wishing I'd discovered these before the navy and grey sold out. I may need to stalk the clearance sections in a couple other locations.

I had a similiar situation last summer but my three pairs of shoes were simply damaged in transit. (UPS didn't even deliver them to me. They shipped them back to JCrew's distribution center.)

I contacted JCrew and they put me in contact with the distribution center in Virginia. The person I spoke with about my order said her f/t job was to deal with damaged shipments. I'm sure you'll get a credit or they'll ship you another pair, if they're stil available.

  17. Jeanne,
Thanks for the Talbots mention. Are there any extra promo codes or anything for online? THanks.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Genny, Talbots has a promo for free free shipping over $175 that can be combined with the 50% off clearance prices. There's no promo code; it's applied automatically.

  19. Jeanne,
Thanks. Did they have many scarves in store or better selection online. Just wondering. Thanks.

  20. Well I just returned my maya cardi which I wore 3 times and was pilling horribly. They gave me a store credit for my purchase price; I was pretty satisfied since I bought it in Sept. and they were gracious about it.

Wanted to report back on new arrivals, store was pretty stocked. They had some new printed merino cardis (the normal weight, not super thin), with lovely floral prints, dresses that look like the brynn poplin dress but with shirring at the bust, a similar dress but with more toned down ruffles on the skirt, some perfect tanks with substantial corsage flowers sewn on (these were actually quite nice but they were $45 so I'm waiting for sale), and some silk/cotton lawn fitted tanks. One style had horizontal ribbons sewn across (not so much a fan); another style had vertical fringe-like embellishment, sort of like the lattice cami from last spring but cuter. Also some color washed cotton henleys and tanks with distressed self-fabric down the front. All in all, there were a few things that interested me when I can get access to my sizes online.

Btw, has anyone reviewed the wool ruffle jacket? Now that the price is below $100 w/ the 30% off I'm curious...

  21. Cass, your B&M was stocked? I was just at B&M yesterday and it was so empty. The SA said every customer is asking if they were closing. Said they would be receiving shipments Wednesday (wow another three days).

I'm guessing new stock won't go online until Wednesday night or Thursday after this promo has ended. They want to try to get everyone to default to the old stock.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Elizabeth, yes, the SA told me they just unpacked the new shipments and put them out this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Elizabeth, mine is still looking very empty as well, however I received an invitation in the mail to an early store opening for the customers of the personal shopper on Wednesday. The store will open at 8:00 a.m. for this. I assume that means they'll have their stock at least by Tuesday, since it's the spring rollout they are showcasing at this personal shopper event.

I have the lookbook, I just can't tell from looking at that whether I'd want any of the spring items.

    ReplyDelete
  24. OT: Talbots. I found a code at retailmenot.com for an additional 20% off sale prices and reduced $5 shipping. There were several to try and one worked for me:)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have so many sweaters at this point, I have a hard time justifying buying another one when they all start to look like reinventions of older rollout items. I bought the Tartine from Fall 08 in about 5 different colors when they hit FS for $20 last year and so I am good on the "merino & chiffon ruffle" cardi look. & now with the Michelle cardis (got it), the forever cardis (got it)... I can't justify getting another.

  26. Desert Flower:
does this private shopper event invited by your PS include 20% off purchase of $125+?

Those JCAs who have PS at B&M do you always have to bring 3 or more "new clients" to be eligible for this type of PS event and discount? I'm just curious...

    ReplyDelete
  27. NoJCrewinJapan,
I know what you mean! I got the Tartine in every color when it went to the $20 mark plus I could use my educator's discount then too with sale items! I got 3 bargain Michelle's too and a couple of Melanies so this year I did not buy one of the newer sweaters as there was no need. I didn't even try the Forever cardigan out. Even though I am tall it just was too long for me.

  28. Each b&m must receive their shipments on different days. Mine received their shipment today and everything should be on the floor by tomorrow. I'll be down on Saturday to take a look.

Anyone see any new knit dresses? Besides the one with ruffles on the top front?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I went to b&m at lunch time…
Sales people were unpacking the new shipments and I saw tons of new things. (I posted few pics if anyone interested).

  30. Simply JCrew,
Thanks for the pictures. I couldn't really tell what the first shirt you have on is really like. Looks pretty but is it floral? Liberty fabric?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Have it and LOVE - bought it at B&M in a dark charcoal (I think it's retail only). Very soft and perfect length for me (I'm 5'6"). My guess is new arrivals will be on-line Thursday (after the 30% off and free ship offer expires). Does anyone have any info on the Ombre Horizon collection Coat???? TTS, love or hate, IRL pics??? Still very pricey, but I'm intrigued. . .

  32. Simply JCrew can you give more detail on the pink skirt? Is it linen or a heavy weave? Curious about it and the detail photo you posted.

    Thanks for sharing!

  33. OT, but I posted a review of the Sperry Metallic Topsiders on my blog, if you are curious about them. A lot of people were interested, based on Alexis'post the other day, so I thought I would share my experience.

  34. Simply JCrew -- THanks for posting pics on your blog. I looked back through all your pics and you have many cute outfits.

  35. my rewards card arrived today! :) Alexis, I send you some photos of the booklet it came with.

  36. I'll have to try it out at the store; the drapey styles are a bit hit or miss with me, so it's best to just give them a spin in the dressing room. Will keep an eye out for this one the next time I'm visiting the store!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Meh. Long cardigans tend to sometimes make their wearers look frumpy and sloppy, in my opinion. Not always, but often enough. I have had about enough of them.

I have a few Michelles but on me, they aren't long... I am pretty tall. Those are holding up pretty well. I hope these do too. I saw a Maya at the clearance store and I couldn't even believe they were selling it. It looked SO ragged!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm invited to the spring preview event tmrw night and hopefully they'll have some good new spring stuff! My PS didn't mention about the 25% off $125 purchase... hmmm... does it only happen at certain b&m?

    ReplyDelete
  39. New arrivals will be out tomorrow night in the Arlington Pentagon City store.

    ReplyDelete
  40. JcrewPhD, no discount with my event. I just get to see a preview of the spring collection, that's my prize :) I'm not going to be going actually, since it's not something I'd be late to work for. Nice to get invited though.

  41. Heard on the Street today....
Spring rollout on the website at the midnight rollover. Hope its true. I'll be asleep.

  42. For those of you in the DC area -- the Friendship Heights store has a lot of the new arrivals out. I usually never go there, but stopped by when I was waiting for someone to meet me for dinner. The SA that helped me, who was super nice mentioned that they were going to be one of the key stores in the area -- similar to Tysons and the Georgetown stores. I thought that was kinda nice for some us that live in Maryland :)

As others have mentioned, very pretty items...great array of colors....I'm sure everyone will see it in their store in the next day or so!

  43. Saw many of the new arrivals in my B&M tonight- I am sucker for cardigans and had to pre-order 2 of them:) It was fun to see some bright colors finally. I was also invited to a private event w/ 20% off with Purchase over $125 with my Personal Shopper as long as I bring 3 friends. Problem is that none of my friends are as Crew Crazy as I am!

  44. HOLY CUPCAKE DRESS, Batman! Sheesh..is she wearing the O-Hara gown (item 20043) or is it wearing her?! That is a B-A-D prom dress on steroids! :)

  45. I stopped by my b&m today and they were just unpacking the new arrivals. I tried on a few items and you can find them on my blog here:
