I like! Including the fur vest
ReplyDeleteOMG, is that a sarong in photo #2 ??
ReplyDeleteI love it all ... except for the navy coat with a wool patch at the bottom ... I'm excited & it's just spring!
ReplyDeleteI was not sure where to post this, but I had my appointment with my J Crew PS, It was soooo lame all she did was help me find my sizes (which they usually do) and put it in my dressing room. Then she went out into the store and talked with the SA and other customers for a while and left me in the dressing room, was not even in there to tell me if anything looked good. I picked out what I liked and that was about the extent of it. Nothing was set up for me in the room to try on even though when I made the appt I gave them size color choices, and told them exactly what I was looking for.
ReplyDeleteIt was really bad I am thinking of writing J Crew and telling them this is a waste of time.....
The fur vest, OK. The fur skirt, not so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is with that navy coat that looks like there is a blue towel over the middle? What are they going for with that look?
Like everything, especially complex layering!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, you are pure evil LOL ;)
ReplyDeleteJust when I made a decision to shop less at JCrew here come more adorable items!
I LOVE the stripped boatneck, I didn't manage to buy it last time they had it in stores.
I also love the puffer jacket, what a color!!!!
I'm pretty sure I actually HAVE the striped scarf shown below the stone tee-perhaps they used an old piece for this display?
Also, that vintage-y looking lace top....OMG, hooked (=want to buy N O W!)
SanFranciscoCA: Too funny! :) I like the striped tee too!!!
ReplyDeleteSlastena: I know what you mean! That layering is just fantastic!!! :)
Nathan: Sorry to hear about your experience. :(
Gawd awful, too many ruffles, tiered skirts and typical colors more oranges and yellows. Look like someone on the design team is on steroids.
ReplyDeleteOh my... I see a lot of questionable things. :( ... Maybe those pictures didn't do it justice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis....
ReplyDeleteHave you heard good things about these appts or what.....Kinda curious?
I like the silver crackley-looking pumps.
ReplyDeleteThe orange shirt with the tiers of ruffles looks a lot like this one, except the ruffles are bigger.
http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=26499&pid=629242
The (animal?) printed pencil skirts look good too.
i need to loose weight so i can pull off that gorgeous lace-ruffle-vintage shirt. it looks amazing with the silk sash!
ReplyDeleteAck.....no more belts, they are everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with that light grey (pewter?) ruffle-y rosette-y blouse under the gray cardi.
ReplyDeleteeverything look so over accessorized..., what happened to clean, polished and lady-like? And the fur...ewww
ReplyDeletemust....have....that....pink....bag....
ReplyDeleteBOHO styling is not attractive. There might be a few jems once the layers are pealed.
ReplyDeleteI don't see one single thing I even liked. I have been shopping JC for 10 years and wow...I think my love affair is officially over. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteThat one coat with the blue/purple middle is just plain AWFUL!

Nathan,
ReplyDeleteYes, I would call or email JCrew. I am so sorry to hear of your experience. A good PS is not like that!
I can see JCrew is going to another level, there are few pieces it's so couture, I love JCrew even more.
ReplyDeleteThe skirt under the puffer jacket looks like the python print mini from last season.
ReplyDeleteI like the blue print pencil skirt until the military-ish jacket. Looks good with the blue leather gloves.
And yes, there are a couple of skirts with soft front pleats a la sarong style. That was a good look for me, back in the early 90's. Certainly doesn't work for everyone though.
^ I mean the python print pencil skirt, not mini. doh!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is I am glad I bought a ton of Paris stuff! Yes, it looks like a different direction for JC but it just isn't working for me.....Hmmm. glad others see things they like...
ReplyDeleteI think the blue gloves do not go with the jacket. That did jump out at me along with lots and lots of belts.
Nathan, sorry your PS shopping experience was lame. Not every store has a personal shopper...many of the smaller ones have none, while many large stores have a few. What might have happened in your instance was that the store did not have a PS on hand, and may have assigned a normal SA to do the job. If a customer called wanting a PS, the store is not going to tell the customer that they don't have one! (especially since they are probably making far less money than usual right now) Most SA's are not as helpful, and are not taught to go the extra mile that PS's do. It's unfortaunate that they make claims about the PS and the customer is let down when it's the same (or worse) service than usual! I would definitely e-mail J. Crew and tell them it was a letdown...but did you at least get the discount? Hope so!
ReplyDeleteYeah, guys...I thought it was pretty bad. I probably don't have the best eye for fashion - certainly not as imaginative as Lyons et co! Didn't see too much that would coordinate or compliment what I have already. I do appreciate the sneak peak, though!
ReplyDeleteOT - can anyone comment on the fit of the Lulu peep toes? I know JCAs have raved about them and I'm contemplating an ebay purchase but I'm not sure of sizing and I'm often between sizes.
ReplyDeleteSize Up ?
Size Down ?
TTS ?
Thanks much!
M.
Jenna hosted a private event on Monday night where she showcased all of these items! It was great to see them in person.
ReplyDeleteNathan: Again, I am sorry about your experience. For the most part, Aficionadas have overall been very pleased with the service. I think it just comes down to who you get as PS. The one you got, clearly was not attentive. I try another personal shopper and see how that goes.
ReplyDeleteYou should also send an email to J.Crew just letting them know your experience. :)
I did not like any of that it looks sloppy and just too much.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Anon at 5:40 - your thinking is probably right on the money!!
ReplyDeleteI did get the discount but even when the PS or SA was ringing me up she was talking with the other customer. It just left a horrible taste in my mouth.
BTW it is a smaller store...maybe
Daaang...this is too sweet that it gave me a tooth ache!! LOVE, LUV all of them but there were some that were really questionable -the coat with the..eh' fur in the middle? The jewelry looks soo sleek!
ReplyDeleteI really hope we can all get out of this economy hurting slump. I really wanna shop but thats whats holding me back!! :(
-jenel in AZ
M.: I normally am a size 9 in shoes (e.g. in all flats, in the Juliet heels), and found that the 8.5 for the Lulu heels worked best for me. I hope this helps. :)
ReplyDeleteAnon at 5:49PM: I would love to know more about the event, if you are willing to review it- please email me at jcrewaficionada at yahoo dot com. :)
It seems the ORANGE, EMBELLISHMENT and BIG JEWELS are the basis of this collection. For the most part I really loved it...now if J.Crew could just UPDATE their website! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's all very Rachel Zoe. Which is cool if you're into that look. I like certain pcs like the striped boatneck, but most of this is just too much.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the striped boatneck shirt, the black & white printed skirt and some of those graphic tees. I agree that they are over-accessorizing..too much going on in some of the outfits, but perhaps it was an attempt to showcase everything at once.
ReplyDeleteM.-
ReplyDeleteI had to size down half a size with my Lulu's.
Some the new items look really cute and some of them look very scary. Still something different to look forward to.
Thank you Alexis. I think I will take the plunge on the Lulu's, they are adorable.
ReplyDeleteM.
The necklaces are so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove it, overall!
ReplyDeleteWhat is up with that roadkill skirt? Lots of things I'd love to have...hopefully I'll have a new job by fall so I can go shopping. Unemployment sucks!
ReplyDeleteOoooh.... I like! The colors are rich and burnt toned, perfect for fall. Love the olive scarf, the olive color silk cami (in the 1st pic), and the puffer coat.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pics!
Thank you too, Emily.

ReplyDeleteI like that they're being a little more adventurous, pushing the boundaries a bit. I don't know if I'd wear all of it, but I like how it looks.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to keep my eye out for the b&w printed skirt and the Foley & Corinna type city tote.
Weird. it just gets weirder and weirder with our friend J Crew these days (what's up with that coat with the big blue area?). Everything looks so sloppy! And sloppy is not what I think of when I think of J Crew...
ReplyDeleteI agree with CC... and anyone who said the collection looks sloppy. The coat with the big blue part? What the hell is that??? Fur skirt... tops with SO MANY RUFFLES. Don't get me wrong; I love ruffles. But... how many tops like that does one need? Some of the shoes were cute... too many belts... And I'm sorry but I think the unbuttoned cardigan + belt look is very sloppy in real life. I have tried to pull it off but the cardigan gets all wrinkly under the belt and looks like crap. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteOK ladies...do I NEED the Juliets in Dusty Rose...anyone seen IRL?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other poster who mentioned that they are pushing the belted sweater/jacket look because a lot of the pants do not have belt loops and belts are such wonderful accessories, especially J.Crew's.
ReplyDeleteI am relieved to see a little adventure in these items--I was scared that J Crew was heading down Bland Street like the Gap. I'm glad to see it is not.
ReplyDeleteI liked almost all of it, except that coat with the fuzzy band in the middle. I even liked the fur coat/vest/cardigan, although I doubt I'll be wearing that, in my unglamorous life with two small children to look after every day.
I really liked the shiny puffer coat--was that rust-colored, or red? Either way, it looks pretty, as do the metallic high-heel pumps and the lace camisole.
Looking forward to the new stuff, J Crew!
I am disappointed with the preview. There were a couple of things that I might like if I saw if styled by themselves. I think it was difficult to appreciate the pieces. As someone said, overaccessorized and kind of granny looking.
ReplyDeleteReally was NOT digging the coat with the contrasting felt. That was just weird.
Love, love, love!! Is it Fall yet?!?!?
ReplyDeleteI actually like that navy coat with the huge blue stripe!
ReplyDelete:) no really I do.
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteGreat comments! I went thru the slideshow a 2nd time just to take a closer look @ what y'all mentioned :}
I agree that there are several pieces that are just not for me. I thought horizontal stripes were considered a no-no... Most esp. Barney skin embellishments. Poor guy, that had to hurt.
I think that the stylists' intended to mix the more fashion forward pieces with the classics. I noticed that the more challenging tops were paired with simple khaki's & sleek skirts. Then the more, ummmm... brave(?) skirts like the feather / fur piece were teamed with a simple tee & sweater look.
I think that this was just a selection to whet our collective appetites. For example, I had hoped to see the tweed skirt the First Lady wore in the Vogue photo shoot. I guess they were holding that one for later.
After watching the slides & getting past my 1st reaction (i.e. I wonder how many poor birds are shivering now), I did find myself loving a few pieces. I would like to try the tweed pencil skirts & brown blazer w. brass buttons. I'll admit, they are strikingly similar to the things I bought last fall. However, that's when I stock up on my basics & go to classic pieces so I'm all good with that.
Thanks for the heads up Alexis - I guess I should start saving now :}
Cheers,
Heather:D
Is it just me or is JCrew beginning to look more like Anthropologie?
ReplyDeleteI will forever be a sucker for a horizontally striped shirt...so chic.
ReplyDeleteThe rest...I honestly need to see as separates. Together as they are styled, none of them do much for me.
:) THANK YOU FOR SHARING THESE!!! Excellent for all of us to get a wee sneak peek!
I do like a lot of the pieces shown. However, there are other that I do not. All in all... Me likey.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 7:31 PM -- I just thought the same exact thing! I was thinking this could almost be a sneak peek at Anthro. There is still a little bit of that J Crew feel, but that was my same thought! Funny.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait til Fall! I'll be saving SOOOOO much money by NOT buying those clothes!! Yuck!!
ReplyDeleteanon 7:31 and 8:06 you are both on to something - Anthropologie it is.
ReplyDeleteCannot do it, could work for under 25's.....not Lauren Hutton types.
ensembles look like costumes, not clothing people wear everyday :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the Fall collection. I find it more exciting than what is on offer for Spring'09.
ReplyDeleteLove the bags they are previewing for Fall.
All that belting is a cover up for cheap labor aka bad tailoring. Good tailoring is requires a pricier factory with skilled sewers. I've suspected this for awhile with J Crew.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the striped tee is my favorite. Can't wait to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteAgree w/ Heather- where's the Michelle Obama tweed skirt? Like that.
ReplyDeleteConcur with others, too many ruffles/layers/feathers. These items would not be flattering on my petite frame, and would also seem to be hard/expensive to (dry) clean. Like seeing the sneak peak though!
Also, forgot to write thanks so much to Alexis for the shout out regarding my posting on some advice for dealing w/ the JC website! YIKES
have a good evening~
-Teresa
i can understand how some people can think that this styling is a bit much, but i live in san francisco and this is pretty much the look right now. it's definitely more fashion forward and reminds me of older prada collections.
ReplyDeletei really love all the pieces that i saw and this sort of styling is why i'm now spending all my money at jcrew. there were a lot of statement pieces that i can see myself wearing years from now. i can't wait until they come in!
I really like just about everything shown...Fall at J.Crew looks promising! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview!
Is that real fur? I hope not...
ReplyDeleteIt probably isn't real fur from J.Crew. I don't have a problem with fur. I wear leather shoes and eat meat so really can't tell others not to wear fur. Especially if they live in a cold climate.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody by any chance have the guys part of the catalog?
ReplyDelete^ I don't see the men's catalog pages anywhere online. The new arrivals will be updated on the site tomorrow, though.
ReplyDeletethe lighting in the preview photos is not great so it's impossible to really see the details. the details make the difference for me. although i can say with some certainty that i do not need to see more details on the shag carpet skirt. besides the hideous fabric, its gotta add a layer or two with those lashy fringes or whatever the heck it is.
ReplyDeleteCeecee-regarding the dusty rose Juliets- I too had the same thought today. I LOVE THEM! but am hesitant because I ordered the Cate's in Shell Pink and they were so Orange and not nearly has Pink as online and I had to promptly return them. hmmmm not sure pink shoes are a must have right now, but they are really cute and it is good to know someone else is on the same wave length.
ReplyDeleteI am not so sure about this Fall fashion preview... I am really in need of work clothes and will spend serious money on a great suit, and just wish J Crew had better options for work clothes. A gal can only spend so much on 'play' clothes. Plus I am forced to buy Crewcuts due to their extreme cuteness!
Twiga
Too busy for me to even see what I would like.
ReplyDeleteOverwhelmingly heinous in my opinion. I wouldn't want to be caught dead in any of those outfits. But then maybe it's just how the items are styled. I just don't think such fussy, over-styled, over-accessorized, over-ruffly looks can ever look clean or classic (which is how I like to dress). And the colors! UGH! I am so sick of mustard yellow and nude tones.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing in that whole mess that I would wear is that navy striped boatneck top - but I could get one of those at LLBean!
I'm excited about the Fall items - as with every season, some pieces are great and some are odd, but that's what I like about Jenna Lyons - she takes risks.
ReplyDeleteThe jewellery and the textures (especially that metallic champagne skirt) are catching my attention and will probably be on my wish list.
I'm really loving many of the pieces in the fall collection and am excited to see it IRL.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the fur, I'm pretty sure this is faux. A few holiday seasons ago J. Crew offered some fur pieces, which had PETA up in arms over, so they actually pulled the pieces and vowed not to offer fur again. I personally am anti-fur (and a veggie), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's faux.
M. - I have the Lulus in 7.5 and love them. I am a 7.5 and sometimes take an 8 if it's a strappy sandal or pointed toe -- anytime I think my feet will swell. I've tried both 7.5 & 8 in Lulus and 7.5 is it for me. I rarely use the term TTS, but I feel these are TTS in this case.
ReplyDeleteThe dusty rose Juliets are pink. the Cates are borderline coral/orange. If you are lighter in skin tone, they will register as pink. If you are more olive or tan, they will look orange against your skin. HTH
Oh -- I love everything in the preview except the Clan of the Cave Bear items. Yes, I know Daryl Hannah was really good in that movie but I don't go bananas for that aspect of the Rachael Zoe look.
ReplyDeleteWell, I went through the slide show 4 times and Wow! What bad stuff. I did not see anything I would remotely wear. I do not do Jcrew jewelry (too big) and styling was just not the classic, clean JCrew lines I am used to. I need to start looking elswhere for clothes if this is Jcrew's new direction.
ReplyDeleteThat blue middle terry whatever coat is really really bad. It looks like something to wear when you are pregnant.
Fall is not promising by a long shot J Crew has gotton away from the basics everyday day workwear items. This line is ugly, how much ruffle stuff can a person own and wear?
ReplyDeleteMy first reaction is that this stuff has been done to death, just styled a different way. But that's good for my wallet, because I already have the long cardi, the distressed jeans, the lacy tops, the belts, the silver shoes, the blazer, the graphic tees, chunky necklace, scarves, and the shiny pencil skirt.
ReplyDeleteI also think that this layered, sometimes raggedy look can disguise declining quality. Who cares if that $88 lace cami is falling apart at the seams, it's going under a military jacket! (call me JC-jaded)
Anyway, I don't want to think about fall yet - it's barely broken 50 here and I'm ready for SPRING! ;)
Love the color palette and the layering, and yes, even the abundance of belted sweaters & jackets. I've always liked bright spice-based colors for fall, esp the oranges & olive hues. But more ruffles??? Sorry, I know many JCAs love ruffles, but it looks like their design team OD'd on the ruffles & floral embellishments. I know they're popular items, but how many ruffled pieces does one need in her wardrobe? I would hate to look at it 2-3 years from now, and think, "Good heavens, what was I thinking with all these ruffles?!"
ReplyDeleteThough I guess that's a blessing in disguise, because if I don't really want anything from JCrew new line, I won't be spending any $$!
I agree with silver lining.
ReplyDeleteQuality is declining greatly. Received defective merchandise just this week.
I have lot of JCrew that I need to get wearing and it is still winter weather! Yes, yes, I want spring and the fall stuff looks pretty sad:(
I looked at the pics a second time (thanks for posting, Alexis!) and I have to agree with Silverlining. I liked last fall's JCrew look, but after two seasons of it, I'm so over the tiers, ruffles, the same old rehashed look. I'm so ready for some really sharp tailoring this coming fall! I agree that a lot of the boxy fitting jackets & so-called "louche" or relaxed layers is really a cop-out alternative to offering good fit in well-tailored pieces.
ReplyDeleteSigh... as much as I want to love the new stuff, this may signal the beginning of the end of my JCrew infatuation.
I loved just about all of it! It looks like J Crew is veering to a more edgy Anthropologie feel, and less like a classic simple preppy Lands End (which is fine with me because too much classic looks dowdy on 40-year-old me). I've read the complaints about too much layering/embellishment/ruffles/etc.But that's what makes it so fun! Each of us gals get to pick and choose the statement pieces & amount of layering that suits our own individual styles. In other words, the fur items are not for most middle America average types like me, but I can understand why J Crew includes them to instill a hip, risk-taking vibe to go along with their classic staples.
ReplyDeleteMegan, when did J.Crew ever offer fur items? I don't recall seeing any and I've been shopping with them since 1992. They still do leather, calf hair and sheepskin (Gstaad coat anyone?) so I doubt that the PETA nazis have struck the fear of harassment into J.Crew. I sure hope not. I love the leather accessories.
ReplyDeleteMegan is correct, jcrew did offer fur items a few seasons ago and PETA went after them over it.
ReplyDeleteYou can read about it at www.jcruel.com.
I think the vest is probably dyed shearling, which they still sell.
Love the ruffled blouses, hate the furry stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think the Michelle Obama skirt is in there in a diff color--I think it's the dark blue pencil skirt.
There were a couple of lighter things I liked. None of the fur-type stuff. I am moving to Phoenix soon and I am glad I won't need to buy heavy wool pieces anymore. And if that is real fur, a la the kind Jenna Lyons wears, then I will be boycotting the store altogether.
ReplyDeletei think the fall line is really beautiful - fall is always my favorite at jcrew so i'm looking forward to the new stuff. in the past i haven't been a ruffle person but i like how jcrew has brought in some femininity to mix with the preppiness over the years. i like it! i have to say, though, that the ruffles w/ blazer look reminds me a little bit of the early madonna 80's era, LOL! also, as other posters have said, it looks very much like anthropologie to me which i like. i just hope that their tops don't continue to be oversized. i'm missing out on a lot of cute tops because i'm usually an XS - some of their tops are just cut way too big so i can't size down! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy (after really overspending on FS from last Fall and Winter) to say that there are only three things I have to have, one t and two accessories.
ReplyDeleteOther than the really far-out stuff, this just seems like more of the same to me. How many pencil skirts, puffer coats, winter coats, cardigans, and ruffly tops underneath can a girl really use?
O/T, but I had been told a week or two ago that they were doing WFIFYs on everything, not just full-price . . . I had GREAT luck, getting two very coveted items, with requests being placed by three different CS reps who were in sync on the new rules . . . when I called today the CS told me that I had been told this in error, and she would not do a WFIFY for me. She was pretty stern, a tone I have yet to experience with JC . . . so just to add my two cents' worth to comments others have made about changes in CS attitudes.
jcreul website redirects to a PETA-friendly propaganda site. It's not factual just because it is on the internet. If you read further you'll find the articles even state that j.crew did not actually sell any fur. which is what the first poster asked - when did they ever offer fur items?
ReplyDeleteIf you boycott for fur, you should boycott for leather too.
Anon at 10:17 AM: Megan is correct about J.Crew using fur and getting in trouble with Peta.
ReplyDeleteThis is sad, but I still have the catalog (Sept 2005) with all the fur items. There are lots of them too... Fur trimmed tweed coat; there was a puffer with coyote fur trim; a trapper hat with real fur.
The bromley duck boots is what I remember the most (because they were super lovely). The trim was lined with rabbit. I remember getting the catalog and being surprised by the choice for trim. Because I was so disappointed by the choice for trim, I opted not to get them.
A month later, the boots got pulled from the shelves and online. When I asked a CS why, she explained that J.Crew got some bad press about it and they responded by removing the item from their line-up.
I hope this all helps clarify. (Sorry for the rambling). :)
Teresa: Thank you again for sharing your experience with J.Crew's website & the technical difficulties!!! :)
ReplyDeleteNot everyone who boycotts fur boycotts leather b/c leather is the by-product of an animal killed for meat, and the animals are killed quickly by a bolt to the brain. Animals raised for fur on the other hand, are killed only for their fur, and must be killed in a way so as not to get blood on the fur. This means electrocution, gassing, etc.
ReplyDeleteI stand corrected on the issue of J.Crew selling fur. I guess that is one catalog that did not make it to my home. Probably not the first and I know it is not the last one I've missed! I learned something new today anyway.
ReplyDelete- The original anon asking the question.
I don't know if this has been said but anyone know when stores or web will be updated with the new stuff?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait!
Anon 7:31 -- I agree that the JC fall line has an Anthropologie-like feel to it. I love Anthro, so I am not exactly disappointed about the change in styles. Love the colors! That weird coat with the navy horizontal blocky stripe is positively awful. BYW, I just have to say how much I enjoy the occasional outbursts of humor on this blog. They really make my day. Have a great evening, everyone! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the jacket in picture 14. It's like the boyfriend military jacket out right now, but looks like it might be less "military" which I would prefer. I will be keeping my eye out for that one this fall.
ReplyDelete
