J.Crew Offers Sneak Peek {when can we get it?}

While browsing J.Crew's website the other day, I noticed a new bag used alongside the Tissue Pleated Top (item 13125; $45.00). I searched all over the website & the catalog (available online) and could not find it. The only item that came close was the Silk Gala Clutch (Item 13636, $88.00). However, it is not the same item.

Then I remembered a post awhile back ("J.Crew Wedding Collection: Sneak Peek to Spring '09"), and lo and behold! The pink purse was there.

Brides.com had an entry that showed us a few new items for Spring 2009 including this "dusty pink, pleated satin tote".

This got me thinking, what new Spring 2009 items can I find on J.Crew's website? I love to see what other new items are "coming up" for J.Crew! :)

When do you think the new Spring 2009 arrivals will hit stores and be available online? Have you found any "sneak peeks" of new items (yet to be offered) online or in magazines? Are you excited about the Spring arrivals?

  1. The purse looks adorable but not sure how practical a satin bag would be for everyday use. Seems a little big to use for "special occasions"

  2. I'm totally excited for the Spring arrivals, but I have to agree with green dino - satin scares me because it stains so easily so I wouldn't be inclined to use it as a day bag at all. For evening I really just need a place to stash a lipstick and a credit card, so I probably wouldn't use it for that either. This bag is definite eye candy, but it's not going to find itself in my closet, unfortunately.

  3. From the picture, I would not have guessed the purse is so big, until you see the model carrying it. Very interesting. :) I think it looks very cute.

  4. Agree with the above comments about the practicality of satin. Wouldn't work for me but they are pretty!
I am generally loving all the spring stuff; the colors are so gorgeous!

  6. OT: I just received an email from GAP for their Spring Preview Event. There is a code for 30% off all regularly priced items and an additional 15% off sale items. To redeem online, enter D2B2QGPLP496 . GAP is also offering free shipping on orders over $150 or more- use SHIP150.

If anyone wants I can forward them the email to use in store. My email is smu_sweetheart@yahoo.com.

  7. I would use this as a day bag b/c I do not carry leather bags that are large b/c they are too heavy for me. I have a handcrafted silk/satin bag that I use with embroidered butterflies and I haven't had any problems with stains. I am just a lucky and/or careful person I guess! Now, it all depends on if it makes it to sale. I don't buy bags ever full price...I have too many already!

  8. I love that new bag! :)

Also, I was told by one of the managers at my J.Crew that the new Spring arrivals will be in the store in about a week and a half.

  9. I am wondering what the selection is going to be like? Will there be less to choose from because they have ordered less due to the economy?

This is my favorite season to purchase clothes, I love cotton!

    ReplyDelete
  10. casual crew....no there will not be less....spring orders were placed LONG ago.

  11. OT - what's this about the website shaving off the first digit of all the prices? Can someone tell me the whole story? (When it happened, exactly what happened, how long this wonderful error lasted...)

I take three days off from looking at the website and THIS happens. :-P

  12. The SA in Walnut Creek told me 1/20 is when they will get spring items.

  13. OT - someone on the weekly exchange was looking for the Patent-leather Serengeti clutch - it's on the website now.

  14. If anyone goes by their local B&M, could you ask when the new arrivals will be online? If they're out in stores on the 21st, I would think they would be online either before or after but I wonder if anyone knows for sure.

  15. Danielle - That was my sister (Smarty) that was looking for the clutch. Thanks very much for the heads up!

  16. I think they have some really cute things for Spring. There is a really cute cotton/silk blouse with little slits in the shoulder sleeve area...very cute. It comes in gray, ivory, a rhubarby pink, and navy. Has anyone seen this online?

  17. fyi...a lot of new markdowns- the Jamie in burnt sienna is $249.99! Also, the Sean is back on as well. Lots of new markdowns. I really want another Jamie but I must restrain myself! It is just such a beautiful bag. Good luck!

  19. Aww--J crew is killin' me! I am not buying anything but the 3 items I have been stalking since my TURKEY order sat MIA for 2 weeks and then things that were plentiful, were now gone.

Apparently, I have missed them again as JC finally decides to re-stock the very weak website of the weeks past. Oh well, early bird gets the worm--and that I am not:)

One item is the serengeti clutch. If anyone has one they wanna give up or they see it anywhere or on the site-please let me know:) I appreciate someone mentioning it here (Smarty, I hope you got it;)

For someone else that was looking via the weekly exchange--there are Juliet safari midheel's in 8-1/2 but you better RUN-NOW!!

  20. can someone tell me how the glenbrae boots run and what the calf circum. is like? I am a 9H but they have 10 on the site and I have smallish calves. I am afraid if I size up that the calves will be HUGE. any advice?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anon at 10:23. The Glenbraes run TTS and the calf circumference is NOT huge. The heeled version does not have a zipper, so you sort of want a little extra calf room. The flat version has a partial zipper. I wear a 9 and own the flat version in a 9 1/2. Slightly too big, but not a problem. I then ordered the heeled version in a 9 and the fit is perfect. You'd probably be fine with a 10. HTH!!

  22. Good morning!
I was able to get the serengeti clutch from FFM, actually! She had one she decided not to keep and I already received it last night. I love it and highly recommend it if you are able to grab one off the site!

Thanks for looking out, Danielle and Bugpin!

  25. I got my lattice cami this morning and thought I would share. The design is chic and adorable but I am majorly disappointed with the colors. The gray comes out on the very light side and the amber is nothing close to the color shown on the website. It is yellow IRL as opposed to the elegant brownish golden tone.

As a fellow JCA, JaneEsq pointed out, I also noticed a few snags on the "yellow" one, or rather a few long horizontal lines across the middle and lower part of the cami in the front. I believe that is not a manmade flaw but is manufactured that way given the nature of the material. I would still like to try my luck though to exchange it.

In terms of the sizing, I ordered a size 0P which fits perfectly, on a 34B, 26 waist and 5'7" frame. For the bustier, I would suggest to go for regular 0 or 1 petite size up.

So the verdict? The grey is going back and I will try my luck to exchange the amber.

Oh now, anyone purchased the Zoey tank in light camel? I would love to read a review before getting it as it is on FS.

    Ginny :)

  26. I revisited the product page for the lattice cami and thought they sent me the light pewter instead of the grey but I guess not as the plastic packaging reads "grey". Anyways, the grey color is a shade or 1.5 shade darker than the pewter.

  29. OT - I need some help! I'd like to order the cashmere zip up hoodie and the cashmere pullover hoodie but I'm unsure of sizing. I'm usually a medium, but I find that sometimes the cashmere runs a bit large. I have one of the long-sleeved t's from this season in a small, so I'm wondering if I should get the same in the hoodies. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it!

  31. Not sure if this is the right place to post this question. Did anyone ever have their UPS tracking say that the number is invalid (as opposed to "Billing information received")? If so what happened eventually? I have a JCrew package that shipped last Friday and all this time the UPS shows the number is invalid. Is the package lost or is there still hope for me? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anon at 2:12 - the same thing happened to me! I haven't had this happen before, so I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it arrives in the next day or two. I received my shipping notification email on Monday and I'm in California, so I was expecting the package tomorrow or Monday. On my last order with J. Crew, I actually didn't even receive a tracking number (I called and spoke with J. Crew about it and they said that some packages go out without tracking numbers but that it definitely went) and I received it within a few days. So I'm hoping that's what happens here!

  33. While I don't care for this large satin bag, I hope they have some nice new bags this spring/summer. The editor looks like something my grandmother would use so hopefully they will change direction to a more youthful look.

When they get them right, JCrew bags are awesome.

  34. I love this bag!!!! I noticed it in the picture too Alexis, and have been waiting for it to pop up on the site ever since.

Does anyone have any idea about what its price will be?

I would also love the serengeti clutch. I tried to order it this morning but it disappeared out of my cart before I could check out. Congrats on getting one smarty! If anyone decides not to keep theirs, please let me know!

  37. I've seen some cute things in magazines--a short sleeve jacket called "Odette" for (I think) somewhere close to $150.00, maybe a little more or less. Also I saw a shimmery shirt and a plainer denim shirt--the shimmery shirt was pretty but nothing I'd really wear. The denim shirt really wasn't special at all--more the "borrowed menswear" look. I am fairly sure those items were in my new Feb. Marie Claire or Harpers Bazaar.

  38. I was just at JCrew at West Farms (CT) and saw a pair of Serengeti Juliet's in size 6 and black Juliet's in size 5 1/2. Didn't catch the sale price, but did notice they were additional 30% off.

I have the boucle short scarf coat and LOVE it (especially for the newly reduced price of $99!!) It is a truly beautiful piece and I feel like I will wear it for years to come. I found it fits TTS, as I purchased my usual size 0. I almost ordered a petite 0, just because 0's are sometimes still to big on me in the shoulders, but the 0 fits perfectly. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  41. The boucle scarf jacket fits the same as Lucille, and Astrid for me. I have an hourglass and the tightest point on that coat is the chest. Someone remarked that the sleeves are a tad short. It hits on the wristbone for (it's not 3/4 sleeve) but I am petite.

I think the jacket is incredibly flattering on, but it's just not apparent when it's on a hanger. I stayed away from it for a long time because the bright pink looked bright but it's not that bright when I put it on.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anon @ 3.49, hmmm, perhaps I have a narrow shoulder and torso? My size 0P is fitted in the bust area with a pushup bra on. There is still room in the waist area.

How does the size 6 fit on you? You have room overall, right?

I have the cashmere pull over hoodie, and it does run big. I tried on a medium in store and it was huge, like a sweatshirt. If you want it more fitted, I would go for the small.

  47. Anon at 7:27: a couple of people on this blog were able to make purchases with the first digit shaved off. One bought a pair of shoes, and another bought a bunch of items. Another person noticed the error, but it apparently fixed itself before she checked out. It sounds like it was a pretty isolated and short-lasting error.

Anon at 2:12: if your tracking number starts with 1Z, it should be a UPS shipment. If not, try to track it via FedEx or USPS. Even if it is UPS, sometimes a package doesn't get scanned correctly, so it just shows up unannounced. And sometimes, sadly, your order has been lost or cancelled. I'd call J. Crew and check to make sure it wasn't cancelled or anything and to verify the tracking number and shipper. If they say everything looks in order and it's on its way to you, they'll likely make you wait 7 days to confirm before they'll do anything about it. :(

  55. While I realize a number of you will wear whatever you like, regardless of whether it is in fashion or not, I found an interesting article regarding trends for 2009. Enjoy the read while you relax in your legwarmers, headbands and cut up sweatshirts...

    FASHION KEEPERS FOR 2009

NEW YORK (AP) — It’s probably safe to retire — or at least put to rest for a long winter snooze — your skinny-leg pants. Once the first signs of spring start to stir, the favored silhouette will be loose and easy.

“Wide pants — if you invested in the dramatic floppy leg pant that just skims the ankle, you are in luck. These are still a big trend for next year,” says Avril Graham, Harper Bazaar’s executive fashion editor.

That’s the thing about fashion: Almost every look — good or bad — comes back, even if it’s slightly tweaked. The key is gauging how fast the boomerang is moving.

Take Uggs, for example. EBay style director Constance White says the cozy, furry boot is already a must-have item again for many women — and it’s a trend driven by consumers.

“The fashion gods forgive me: I will not throw out a pair of Ugg boots. ... They dipped — came off the radar and weren’t ‘it’ anymore — but they’ve had the huge rise in popularity again. All you have to do is look on the streets and you’ll see hundreds of women and girls who just think they’re the cutting edge of fashion all over again,” White says.

Some other likely top (and not) looks of 2009:

—Sandy neutrals and tropical colors are likely to make a splash, but there might be a changing of the guard for regal purple, which has reigned for a few years. Painterly prints had a shorter run, but Graham says they too are on their way out. “Best to look for sweet florals,” she advises.

—Safari styles, whether they’re vintage Yves Saint Laurent or new Banana Republic, are enjoying a high point on their arc of popularity. That’s good news, says Graham, because it’s an easy look for most women to wear.

—The 1980s continue to both inspire and haunt fashion, but if you ever wore harem pants and highlighter colors the first time, you might consider giving only a wink to the decade with bangle bracelet or fluorescent accessories.

—A low-platform heel is a shoe that takes you through every season and most occasions, says eBay’s White. If you’re cleaning your closet, extreme platforms can get tossed, but hold on to all your peep-toe shoes, she advises.

The popular gladiator-style sandal will triumph again this summer, but it’ll be even more aggressive looking with higher heels.

—The big statement necklace popular last year is still a trend, but it’s one you can cut back on.

“If you’ve accumulated three or four, part with two of them,” White says. “Instead hold on to any bracelets — cuffs or stacking bracelets, especially. They’re fresher, new and they’re going to be hot right thru spring and summer.”

—Logos are out and subtly is in. “It’s not the right time for flash,” declares Graham.

    ReplyDelete
  56. anon 8:42pm - thanks so much for that article! i'm SO thankful matchstick jeans and statement necklaces will FINALLY be going to the wayside! my thick calves and aversion to flashy (gigantic) jewelry was really preventing me from joining in the fashion party for the last few seasons. I can't wait for spring!

**as a sidenote, I just received my squirrels & acorns bracelet in the mail today, and I can't imagine anyone wearing it. perhaps on the right person, but for me it goes WAY beyond costume jewelry and looks more like something a clown would wear. I was so disappointed. If it were just a bit more reasonable in size....maybe I could wear it. So sad...

    ReplyDelete
  57. I just received my lattice cami, and it's not amber, but yellow. If the grey is off too, then it looks like the colors on the website aren't actually the colors of the cami. Mine has a few horizontal lines in the fabric too, but they're very small and part of the weave or fabric itself, it looks like. A bit roomy but not nearly as blousy as camis have been recently.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kitchy7, agree on the amber/ yellow color. Would you agree it is accurate to say the "amber" resembles the cornsilk color in the lea cardigan?

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/sweaters/merino/PRDOVR~99545/99545.jsp

The texture of the fabric does appear slightly different as shown on the website too. It may be the lighting, I guess. I would really have loved to keep the grey if it were more of the dark slate color as appears on the website :(

    ReplyDelete
  59. anon @ 8:42 - I am glad to hear about the pants. I like wide leg pants and pants with a little flair.

I don't wear costume jewelry so I am still staying away from that.

I am sooo glad that J.Crew doesn't put their logo on things. Otherwise, I would not be able to wear J.Crew.

I will never like those gladiator sandals.

  60. Rats on Parade,

Do you mean the Pinecone and Squirrel bracelet? Too bad, I love mine! I've really developed a thing for biggish, chunky charm bracelets this year. I'm fairly tall and have long arms and I like wearing them with 3/4 or bracelet sleeves. I agree that the J. Crew bracelets are always MUCH bigger in person than they appear on the website.

On the flip side, those ruffled Victoria tops that are oh-so-popular on this blog seem more to me like something a clown might wear, but to each his own, I guess.

  61. Anon @ 2:12--

I kept receiving the same error message with 2 orders that shipped out on Monday, but they are finally now showing as billing info received. A CS rep once told me that the billing info received message comes up until the packages are scanned at their destination sort center. I've ordered WAY too much over the last few months (2-3/week) and have found that to be the case. I can't usually see detailed tracking info until the day they are delivered. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anon @ 8:42 - thanks for that article. Some of the styles mentioned are in the new catalogue:

    gladiator sandals
    safari prints
    bracelets
    wider pants
    sandy neutrals

I am also happy to see the statement necklaces fade away in favor of bracelets. I have a number of Tiffany bracelets that I can layer on. They will fit in with the sandy neutrals a lot better than the flashy, colorful jewelry JCrew has offered the past few seasons.

  63. Chiffoncupcake -- yes, it does look very much like the cornsilk merino Lea cardigan. It's funny because I held it up to everything in my closet trying to come up with a match for the color, but nothing was quite it. You nailed it!

  64. OT, but has anyone bought or tried on the chiffon-pleated cardigan? The price just dropped and I'm thinking of getting it, but it's final sale. How was the fit? And is it as stunning in person?

  65. Who is this person from Ebay to say what is in or not?? Fashion and more importantly style, are best left to the individual and what fits their lifestyle and personality. It's what makes them comfortable in their own skin. WHO CARES about trends?? If you have "style" none of this should matter.

For those commenting on things they think are hideous, there will always be someone else that loves it! That's what makes the world go round and with maturity, you will see these comments are pointless and better left unsaid.

    ReplyDelete
  66. ^ I've thought that for a while, but haven't voiced it. I agree.

For those of you who don't like one style, item, color, etc., there are 5 people out there who do. Some day, someone will pan or trash your taste in attire mercilessly, so best to keep such thoughts to oneself. There is no point to it.

    ReplyDelete
  67. ^^ Agreed. It's great to hear what people are trying, playing with, or enjoying. However, that someone HATES an item (as opposed to, "It didn't work for me," "Not what I hoped for," but, as some Anonymous will point out, Free Speech, Get Over It. Well, sure, JCrewer. But, one does wonder, post-middle-school, why? I remain inspired and tempted by what you all are trying and wondering.

  69. Ah, Professor,

    Pot? Kettle? Black?

Maybe you should take a bit of your own advice. I seem to recall you snidely deriding the fashion choices of your fellow faculty members and "mom jeans" wearers several times recently.

There is a difference between expressing an opinion and making a personal comment. Your comments denigrated the choices of specific people. If I say I dislike a given item for x, y or z reason it is merely expressing a difference of opinion. Only an overly sensitive person who is dependent on the crowd's approval is going to take personal offense.

I guess you want Alexis to discontinue the Love It or Leave It topics? Heaven forbid one of your Love Its is one of my Leave Its!!

I deplore the notion of groupthink where the only acceptable comments are Bug Pin and Lucido coat BAD! Cascading Flowers Astrid GOOD! That's truly middle school and how boring this site would be to read if we all have to "go with the flow" or keep silent.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't care if someone says they hate something I like. I am not so sensitive I will go and cry over it. You guys are trying to censor this board and I think we should allow for a diverse group of opinions. It would be sad if we had to worry about every single little thing that we said on this board or, "Oh no, I will offend someone."

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hi all,

Ummm if you're still interested in the fabric bag in the photo, take a look at this item #13636 - Silk gala clutch. I think it has many of the aspects Alexis, & green dino liked. However, it ***looks** like a smaller version. Perhaps it will be a good evening bag like several JCA's mentioned.

  72. Anon at 10:21, Professor didn't actually say that. Someone else said it in response to a post by Professor in this post. Professor just said she was familiar with such a crowd and emphasized her aversion to acrylic yarn (and really, are any of us die-hard acrylic yarn fans?).

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hey kitchy7,

I know fidele made the original comment about mom jeans, but Professor supported it, "cring[ing] with familiarity" instead of asking fidele not to criticize others as she is asking the rest of us to do. She's made other comments that imply that her dress is superior to her peers, rather than saying only positive things about them and celebrating their unique sense of style.

I do find this type of comment to be more snide and personally aimed than a generic, "I hate the Cascading Flowers Astrid - it's too puffy" contribution.

Acrylic yarn, acrylic yarn...I did do some charity knitting once where we were asked to use acrylic yarn because the resulting products would be easy to clean. It's cheap, too and you don't have to worry about dye lots. :-)
