Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me

FabulousFloridaMommy (FFM) regularly guest blogs on outfits she creates with items that you, the members, request. :)
FFM has done it yet again! A big "thank you!" to FFM, who has created a fabulous outfit for numerous requests on styling J.Crew's "new arrivals" in the "Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me" post!

To view the wonderful sets, click on the links below. (The name of the link relates to the request for an outfit.)

Are there any items from J.Crew (that you either own or are thinking about getting) that you would like FFM to create outfit ideas. Feel free to include additional info like: the climate/season you want to wear the item/outfit, as well as age bracket/lifestyle. :) After a few days, FFM will select a few items (from the feedback) to create a couple of Polyvore outfits with those items (which will then be posted for all).

What J.Crew pieces do you often wonder how to use in an outfit? What J.Crew items would you like to see an outfit created for (please include item name or item number)? Do you have any J.Crew items in your closet that you are unsure how to style with? Please, let us know! :)

  2. Ooh, this re-instated my love for the Navy Victoria. I should've bought it while I had the chance...

  3. Wow that outfit looks fabulous. Good job FFM =)

  4. Beautiful outfits!! :)

OT - I absolutely love my City Fit Luxe Cord Trousers (and got a great deal on them), but they are a bit long for me. Is it possible to hem cords??

    ReplyDelete
  5. FFM-

As usual, your outfits are gorgeous! Would you be willing to create some sets with the golden roses pencil skirt? Thanks!

  6. Thanks for the style ideas!

I would like to see ideas for the silk dupioni skirt (light grey) if possible. I love it, not too sure what to wear with it though! I work from home and live in the northeast, so I would wear it out and about or to an event.

  7. FFM-

What fabulous style you have! I could use some help with bootcut cords in coral and gold.

  8. Dear FFM,
I would appreciate if you could provide some suggestions on how to wear the wide patent belt (yellow or almond).
    Thanks

    Thanks!

  11. hi FFM! can you do a set with the whisper lame zoey tank in nectar? THANKS!!! :) something casual/weekend

    ReplyDelete
  12. Great sets FFM! (as always!) :)

So no refresh today either? What am I to do with my rewards card? Paying full price for new arrivals just seems so....wrong. (See how they've trained me? J.Crew has no one to blame but themselves.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Site just refreshed, y'all! :)

Any guesses on how long before it crashes? :/

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hm... still works fine for me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, JCrew just lost money and I saved money. I can't check out. Site is down. And I am not making an overseas phone call to order...I had over $400 worth of stuff. Oh well, off to shop elsewhere. Crappy JCrew site.

  16. Wonderful sets FFM. I have many of the pieces you have used, but haven't put them together. Great ideas.

I would like to see some sets with light pink (shell), and light blue chinos. Something business-casual would be much appreciated.

    TIA

  17. Mickey - WAKE UP and fix this website!!!

What will it take to get some reaction to this crappy website???

Surely, they have noticed that it NEEDS fixing!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Stay tuned...

    Site is down yet again!

  19. Back to "Stay Tuned" msg!

  20. OMG! I feel like we consumers have been patient enough...this website stuff just is downright BAD BAD BAD!

JCrew I am so pissed. I realize it is just clothes but ya know this should not be a continuing problem but it is...and I guess I am just fed up!

  21. woah...the swim section was MAJORLY updated.

  22. Could I ask for some general advice on the Kelly shirt? I bought a few long-sleeved shirts from JC back in 2005 and the hem looks great untucked. I ordered the Kelly shirt just before Christmas in a Petite M and it is too long to leave untucked. However when I tuck it in, it blouses out and doesn't look fitted as on the models. I needed the M for it to fit my shoulders and bust though. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you get the lower half altered to remove all the extra fabric? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am the JCA who posted a few days ago about ordering 21 items, most from FS. My package arrived yesterday afternoon and everything was included, nothing missing. All items are NWT, nothing has been worn, it is all in perfect condition. I guess my shopping luck hasn't really continued though, when I tried to check out this morning the site crashed. But I see I'm not alone so I guess that's something.

I've got to dash off to work now. I'm sure by the time I get home my few "want it" items will be gone once again. Or maybe I'll get lucky....

    Have a great day everyone.

I hemmed two pairs of cords this year with no problem. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  25. WOW! The update even included a couple of the crest tissue tees from 2007. Other than that, I got a candy tee, the beaded floral tee in coral.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Stacy,

are you able to get on the site? i can't...wish I could see the swimwear...

    ReplyDelete
  27. mary-scott, I have several of the Kelly shirts, two I purchased just before Christmas. I am able to leave them untucked, although I agree that they are not quite the same cut as they used to be.

For me, they are best worn tucked in with a higher-waist item, like a pencil skirt. I only wear them untucked now with jeans or more pants casual as they are definitely not as fitted. I might try taking mine in on the side seams to narrow the bottom. I don't think they are longer, I think they flare out a bit more, at least on me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i am cruising right along on the site.

i am going to costa rica in a month so the updated swim section is so great!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. FFM, I love your sets. I was inspired by your sets using the double-serge skirt in bronzed ochre, a colour I would never have considered. I managed to get the skirt on FS and it arrived last week. I have worn it already and it is definitely one of my favourite skirts. Without your inspiration I would not have tried this colour. Thank you for all that you do to help us on this blog and your own blog. Your creativity and willingness to share your time with us is greatly appreciated.

  31. Love this! I have the Vic cami in Navy and Pink ~ I plan to wear the navy w/ white jeans. Thanks.

  32. I still can't get on over an hour later. I know it is not my computer b/c I was on many times today prior to the updating...

I don't know how others are seeing things...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Trying to check out. Only two items, not a big deal. Keep getting the green screen - unable to fulfill your request. Just now I got the "you have nothing in your shopping bag" screen. Thanks for dumping it out J.Crew. What a PITA

New stuff has been up for over an hour but the site crashed just a few mintues after updating.

I don't know how Stacy is getting on...

People might just be saying that to piss us off. God knows I am mad.

  36. order place....let's see if anything gets can canceled. i am not feeling to hopeful that i get everything.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I did a checkout this morning. Forgot something I wanted to get with the promo. I put it in my shopping bag and there it sits. I cannot see the shopping bag and I cannot check out. It's just so pathetic. 1 - that the site is just awful. 2 - that we keep shopping, regardless.

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anony @ 11:56-I just got through onto the site but all I see is the same old stuff...have you seen the new arrivals on the site yet? I can't imagine why it would go back to the old stuff

    ReplyDelete
  39. By new stuff I am talking about tons of stuff added to final sale. I keep getting FORBIDDEN crap. Never seen that before. What the heck? Anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I feel PATHETIC for wasting my time. YUCK. YES, why do I even keep trying.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Final sale has a lot of updates- I snagged a 2nd cross-back swimsuit in a different color.

When the site crashed before I checked out, I called to place my order and was given free shipping "for the trouble I went through". Try calling if you know what you want.

    ReplyDelete
  42. when did the site updated this morning? I checked at 8:30 ET and there were a few pieces. By the time I check again about noon ET there are a bunch more, but a lot had the sold out after I click on the picture. :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am forbidden. However, that is after I placed eight orders this morning. I placed the ninth order over the phone. I am still forbidden by jcrew.com, so I can not take advantage of tomorrow's update. Don't know why?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I emailed my PS and told her about the website crash and how frustrated I am...she refused to give me free shipping so I said no thanks b/c I can only remember 5 of the 7 items I had in my cart and I don't want to be charged shipping twice. I have been trying to get on the site for almost 2 hours so I feel stupid for wasting my time. I am so dumb. It is just clothes after all.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 12:41

I assume you are joking. Ha ha. That many orders...right:) Good one.

    ReplyDelete
  46. While you girls can see items on the website, you can not without using a proxy. The proxy doesn't allow me to buy anything.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anon @ 11:21 -- Thanks for the reply re the Kelly shirt. So far I have only worn it tucked in with a cardi, which hides the blousey-ness. But I was eyeing the spring colors of the Kelly in the store last weekend, and it will be too warm for a cardi in the spring/summer. I may check with my tailor and see what she can do. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  48. There is TONS of stuff added to the site but it is ALL sold out. It looks like they had to reboot the site and everything is showing up - but really, nothing is available. A cruel trick.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ^my thoughts, too, 12:51.

    ReplyDelete
  50. haha - the site now won't let me search by item type, only by color. Crazy J.Crew, just crazy.

  55. January 27, 2009 1:51 PM

Glad to know you are forbidden by jcrew as well. I clearned up cookies and caches, but I am still getting the same message.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I keep expecting the site to put up the message, "It's not you, it's me."

    ReplyDelete
  57. I posted a few photos from the catalogue on my blog if you all want to check them out. Sorry for the poor quality - no scanner!

  58. BirdE, I cannot see the pictures on your blog. I tried both Explorer and FireFox.

  59. Hi,
I would like to know your opinion about the Ingrid peep toes. I am considering the ones with brown spots and pink patent trim (yes, the ones that look like a cow) or the solid papaya color.
The cow shoes are not what I would usually pick, but for some reason I feel very attracted to those, more than to the solid ones... Maybe I am just having a crisis and an urge to buy... that's why I would like a second opinion.
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  60. I would love to know of anyone has the hammered silk tank. Is it TTS? And, what do you wear it with? I like in Ohio, so right now it would have to go under something. Does that look good? I really like the look of it on the website, but wanted to hear from others before i actually buy it.

    TIA!
    Victoria

    ReplyDelete
  61. elnobe: I personally LOVE the ones with the pink trim that look like a cow!! Go for it!! They are adorable ... even in person!

  62. Nobelle:
If you are still reading, I have on my blog the way I used the wide patent belt in yellow (I belted the snow leopard blouse). I also created a polyvore set with it. The links are below...I don't know how to create a direct link, but you can copy and paste if you are interested:
    http://mysuperfluities.blogspot.com/2009/01/sophisticated-in-school.html

  63. Nobelle:

I need to be more computer savvy. I realize that you can't copy and paste what I put in the message. If you click on my name you should be able to get to my blog. The title of the blog entry is Sophisticated in school.

    Thanks for your patience!
    Dina.

  64. Victoria:

I love my hammered silk tank. I have worn it as a glamourous add-on to outfits that would be mundane otherwise. I am tall, but short-waisted, so I bought the Petite 10 and it fits beautifully. I did not want a blouse I had to tuck in which is why I bought it in petite. I have worn it with the merino wave cardigan and it was plenty warm for me (and it was cold that day). If you want to see it in real life, I put in on my blog both on me and as a polyvore set...
I can't make links work (I need to learn) but click on my name and look for the posts: My first superfluity and my outfit...on me...before the party.

I got a ten because an 8 usually fits but I have heard when going with petite, always size up.

    Hope this helps!
    Dina.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Dina,

I have the hammered silk tank in bright peacock which I love... but I haven't worn it because of the weird lining around the neck. Did you find yours to be itchy/uncomfortable? If so what did you do to fix it?

    Victoria:

I think it's TTS... but if you have a large chest might need to size up. I got a 6 but I have a 4 in other tops like the victoria. The 4 would've been ok if I had a smaller chest. Hope that helps :)

I also live in Ohio and I plan to wear it under a sweater or a Bella jacket. It looks good under things like this!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm so sorry this is off topic. but...Does anyone have the dark trouser jean in clean rinse wash, item # 13235? I ordered them a couple days ago and I'm just wondering what they are like IRL. Are they flared in a bad way, or a good way? For $25 I was willing to risk that it's in a bad way... but I got tall and will need them hemmed a little so if it's a bad flare that'll take away from it a little. Thanks a ton in advance.

  67. OT: I'm trying to decide how to spend my rewards card wisely. I think I've narrowed it down to the fleur peep toe suede heels and the velvet ecole jacket. I have med/dark brown hair w/medium brown eyes and yellow/orange undertones. Think Italian/Greek gal. Mamma Mia and a little Opa! Can't decide on ecole color(s): navy, honey glaze. As for the shoes, I love all the colors, but am trying to narrow between bright peocock, yellow or purple. Stylewise, I guess I gravitate towards classics with a shot of urban edge. I tend to prefer solids over patterns and am trying to wean myself away from wearing black head to toe. I'm looking at long term use hence the choice of these two items; just not certain about the color. I suppose I could get two shoes and one jacket or the navy/honey jackets and one pair of the shoes. Dang it! I'm trying to spend the card wisely. Can't decide. Help me Aficionadas. I have fallen in the sale pile and I cannot get up. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. You all always have great ideas, I'm looking for a trench-type coat for Spring. I'd ideally like green or white (but could rock khaki), but it needs to be a small, but tall size-I'm a 2/4 who is 5'11", and can never find one with long enough arms.

    Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anon @ 4:10:

I think that you should get 2 jackets and 1 pair of shoes. Both of those colors would look great on you I think! The jacket is so versatile and chic and I think you'd get alot of wear out of having it in two colors!

As far as the shoes... bright peacock is one of my favorite JC colors... and it'd "go" with alot of different things. I've seen these in person and they are really lovely! Go for it!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi Ladies- Does anyone know of a blog where one of our 'real' women/ aficionadas can be seen modeling the Vintage Slim Jean, both rolled and unrolled? TIA!

  71. Hi dinagideon
Thanks for the advice, I checked the pictures and that looks very pretty. :)

  72. Em:

Yes, I know of the issue you are having with the neck thing on the hammered-silk tank. Here's the thing...I rarely find things like that bothersome (weird, I know). Instead...I get frustrated by itchy tags and the like.

I think the only thing you can do if something like that you bothers you is to have a tailor take it out (if possible) or wear just the right camisole (or maybe have a camisole sewn in).

I justify my trips to the tailor because I know I will wear the item enough to make up for the extra cost!
    Dina.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nobelle:

Good luck. Post some pics some time of you using the belt...I am definitely looking for more ideas myself!

  74. What a tease jcrew is - I must have clicked on 10 items only to read the dreaded "sold out" bit :-(

Meanwhile OTHER sites are working just fine - I just ordered a Jiffy Steamer in response to last week's big discussion about steamers and their superiority over irons for getting out wrinkles.

    ReplyDelete
  75. 4:12, Both Banana Republic and Gap carry trench coats in tall sizes.

    ReplyDelete
  76. La Belle Helene, congratulations on the steamer! I love steaming items like sweaters or silk tops and dresses. I feel that steaming is less damaging on such items. And for some reason I like the steaming process. I am not a big fan of ironing.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Vic, I'm no fan of ironing, either, so I'm super excited to be getting the steamer (should be 5-7 days). I have A LOT of skirts, and I'm so looking forward to steaming them rather than trying to iron out wrinkles, which rarely works all that well.

Should work well on silk scarves, too, right? I have a beautiful Hermes one I bought in Paris, and I'm loath to turn it over to a dry cleaner.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Vic: and here I thought I was the only one who finds it enjoyable to steam!! It's weird...I'll actually go through my closet to find more stuff to steam because so fun to see the instant result. I think I might be OCD....hee, hee!

    ReplyDelete
  79. anyone is still forbidden from jcrew.com? Or anyone was forbidden from the website before? How the probelm got fixed?

I have changed settings of my computer, also contacted my ISP. It seems the problem is of jcrew.com.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I love steaming, ironing and laundry in general. I just love clothes, I guess. There is something satisfying about making all your lovely garments perfect and ready to wear. Not quite shopping, but close. ;-)

I was able to place two orders today. Did one this morning and then remembered a couple of items I wanted that people were posting about so I thought I'd better get them before they are gone. Orders say released now, let's see if they ship.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I, too, love to steam! I got this steamer for xmas and it works great! I looked at the Jiffys, but the ones I found were too big for my little closet (I keep the steamer on the floor of my closet for easy access).

    ReplyDelete
  82. La Belle Helene, the steamer will work on scarf for sure. Make sure you read the instructions on how to use the steamer and search for videos on YouTube. Videos offer tricks on how to hang and then hold the clothes to get the best results. Also, watch your fingers the first couple of times you steam. I burned myself a few times but then I learned :) For me the steamer does not work on the shirts. I still need to iron them. But I don't have that many shirts and after all I can always take them to dry cleaners for ironing.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Leslie, glad to hear that you enjoy steaming as well.:) Every week I look forward to steaming while watching a new Grey's Anatomy episode.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks for the info, Vic. Several of the reviews I read actually mentioned "finger burns" the first few times they steamed, so it sounds like a common occurence.

I'll be curious to see what effect a steamer can have on the flower from my droopy-flower astrids. I re-pinned the thing, which helped, but I'd still love it to look more open.

    ReplyDelete
  85. smarty, Anon at 5:23pm - :) That's great! I did not know there are so many fans of steamers on this site.
I own a Tobi steamer that my husband purchased from Costco. I've read so many negative comments about this particular steamer that I do not feel comfortable recommending this product to anyone. But I personally have not had any problems with the Tobi steamer. I watched the instruction video and it helped to understand how to get the best results.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Vic, I used to enjoy Grey's Anatomy, but now I forsake it every week for The Office & 30 Rock (which I think is the funniest hour on TV, contested only by Daily Show/Colbert Report). Part of the reason is I love those other shows, but I also found GA started to annoy me - I couldn't buy the Issy/George romance, and some of the episodes just got so dark. I want to be entertained and laugh :-)

    ReplyDelete
  87. La Belle Helene, I have not tried steaming the sad flower. I was afraid to burn my fingers. I've spent an hour ironing the flower and then pinned it to the jacket. It looks fine. May be I should try steaming.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yikes, I ordered the alessa wild rose patent mary janes on impulse this morning and now am wondering what in the heck I'm going to wear with them...

I've been meaning to branch out into more daring work shoe territory so any advise (from FFM or any Fab JCA) would be appreciated...

    Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sorry All, I have fixed my blog so you can actually SEE the photos from the catalog.

  90. gah, I was on a bright pink clothes bender because I also bought a bright berry boucle scarf jacket. I am noramally a golden avacado/bronzed ochre sort of gal so...wish me luck (and suggestions!)

  92. I also ironed my droopy flower...it looked amazing at first... but it has drooped again :( I am going to iron it again and then starch it before it can droop. I hope that works!

    ReplyDelete
  93. La Belle Helene, I will check out the shows you’ve mentioned. I do not have a TV so I only watch the shows available online. GA lightened up a little bit this season I think. I also watch Private Practice but mainly because I like the main character and the acupuncturist. I study acupuncture and Chinese medicine myself and I love seeing an acupuncturist on the show.
and I agree with you on the Issy/George romance - that was lame :)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Pudding:

Why not wear the bright pink with your golden olive things? I think the combo could be quite stunning...I think I will have to try this combo myself sometime!

Let us know what you put together!
    Dina.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Vic, I agree, GA lost a really good character when Mrs. Ex-Mcdreamy departed - I loved her interaction with mcsteamy, actually, because they had great chemistry and were funny together.

What color droopy flower astrid did you get? I got the pink first and liked it so much I also got the charcoal. At their current price, plus 30% off, I just couldn't resist.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Pudding:

I meant to say golden avocado, not golden olive, but you probably knew what I meant!
    Dina.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Pudding, I checked the MJs you bought and I like the color. I would combine this color with white, black, grey colors – I am sure you have items in these colors in your closet. You can get a thin belt in the same color as your MJs and then add it to the outfits you make with the colors I mentioned before. Or you can match the MJs color with the nail polish and lipstick color. I can create an outfit for you on Polyvore if you want. Do you have anything in white/black/grey from J.Crew so I can use that in the set to give you an idea?

    ReplyDelete
  98. BirdE, thank you for posting pictures for us!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Pudding, I think those pumps would look fantastic with jeans, and I'll second the vote for pairing them with a green color.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Em - I should go and check how is my droopy flower. I've never starched anything so I have no idea how it is done. Hmmm. May be I should use a hairspray on it? :) No sure this is a good idea though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. La Belle Helene, I have it in charcoal. :) I figured I already have the bright pink boucle coat so I picked the charcoal boucle Astrid. I like it, nice color. In the perfect world I would have this jacket in pink as well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  102. Pudding, the coat is very beautiful and I like the fabric. it complements my fair skin. I went to a downtown bar for drinks and wore this coat. The entire bar turned at looked at me when I walked in wearing this coat. You will get noticed in that color a lot. :)

  103. I just want to say that I found the chloe conspiracy blog from here and it is hilarious! In terms of styling, she and FFM are all any of us needs to look fabulous....Thanks Alexis for the links to other blogs, it is really helpful!

  105. I still cannot even see JCrew's website and it has been hours upon hours.

    Anyone else? same boat?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I was able to snag a Feb catalog today and it's okay. However, I have to say that the greatest thing about J Crew is that the make slight changes on items or create a new color. So, the mocs you bought 3 years ago are not drastically different than the ones you would buy today. I think that is the reason so many of us like J Crew because of the classic style and the ability to wear something you got 5 years ago! I will say the main model they used for the new catalog (beside Lauren Hutton of course) is really pretty and wears the styles well.

  107. Pudding, those shoes rock! They are a gorgeous color for now and for spring. I like that they are bright, but not quite red, a little more girlish than red shoes would be. I think they would be sweet with most any color slacks or skirt, except red, of course.

  108. No problems with the website here. It was acting up earlier today but it seems fine now.

  109. OT: If anyone likes ninewest shoes or anyother major brand, go to amazon.com. They have ninewest sandals as low as $17.00, plus free shipping on orders over $25.00...They also have good deals on other brands like FRYE, Charles David, Via Spiga,etc....

  110. I still get that stupid green page saying that my request cannot be processed at this time and to try again later every time I click on an item. This has been going on all weekend long. I've tried everything from cleaning up cookies, downloading Firefox, changing my settings on my computer...nothing works!

  111. J Crew site is working for me, I ahve no problem accessing it. But Polyvore does not work. :(

  112. All these items up today from Fall 2007 is making me nostalgic for the fabulous Paris catalogue. I may have to pull out the copy I saved and get a fix :-)

  113. Vic and Em: I highly recommend using spray starch on your droopy flower astrid. I took the pin off the jacket and placed it on a towel. Then I LIGHTlY sprayed the starch will "puffing" the flower up. I would say to do a couple of light coats, rather than one heavy one. You don't want the flower to get too wet or it might get discolored. Let it dry completely and then repin on the jacket and use an extra pin or two towards the top of the flower. This should do the trick. Mine's been sitting in my closet for about a month and still looks great. Good luck!

  115. Well, JCrew has done something to their website and/or settings b/c it was fine all morning and then has not worked for the past 8 hours at all. I just get Forbidden. I can get to any other site I want no problem. Just not JCrew. They lost out on my business today and probably tomorrow b/c I have no clue how to fix their mess and why I can't get to their site but every other store or site is fine. Really, any ideas? help?

  116. anon at 6:34 - it's funny you mention amazon.com shoes, i've been mindlessly surfing their site for the past few days checking out their shoe selection and i am in love. i'm fairly certain that every single shoe ever created is on there - and definitely at the best prices i have ever seen. i think my husband is amazed i can spend that many hours staring at shoes.

i just got my snow leopard harlow blouse in the mail today and oh my goodness, it is gorgeous (i'm still wearing it from my first try- on session). it fits TTS ( i'm a 0, always a 0) and the silk is thicker than their silk usually seems to be; it's not that thin silk that clings to you with the slightest static, hate that! and it buttons up the back, which i didn't realize when i ordered it, but it really classes it up :) and it looks fantastic with the HHFs. i highly recommend it!

  117. Thanks Leslie!! I am going to try that tonight. It's my first experience using starch...

  118. Website is working SUPER fast for me right now--I don't know if I have EVER seen SO FEW items there though!

  119. website problem solved. I am not forbidden any more.

restart your dsl/cable modem and you will get a new ip address. try to access jcrew.com. If it still doesn't work, restart again until you get a new ip address working.

  120. Wow everyone, thanks so much for the suggestions on the wild rose mary janes. Every suggestion sounds so cute - jeans, avacado colours, grey, black!! I'm so excited to get them now!!

Vic, grey is one of my favourite colours but I think the only grey JC thing I have is a melanie button cuff crew neck in heather grey and maybe a grey merino turtleneck.

If the berry scarf jacket doesn't work on me I think I can send it back! My order confirmation didn't say final sale!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Leslie, thanks for the insturctions!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Pudding, you could probably sell the berry scarf jacket on the weekly exchange. It is such a beautiful coat, I bet you will want to keep it.

  123. Anony@7:00

Thank you so very much. It worked. I am not forbidden anymore but to think I was just crusing the website adding stuff to my bag at 11:00ish and then BAM! Forbidden. WHY??? I lost everything:( so sad...

    ReplyDelete
  124. Pudding, I wanted to create a Polyvore for you but their site is down. However, I think you get the idea that those shoes are not complete waste of money. :) You can definetly combine them with the grey sweater you've mentioned. I will see if I can create a poly for you later.
Also, if you like grey color check out the Miranda jacket. It is $69 after 30% discount. I've received it yesterday and it is really nice. I already wore it to school yesterday and it kept me warm in class.
You are right, you can return the boucle berry coat if your invoice does not say FS.

  125. I just received a pair of Alessia peeptoes and am so disappointed in the quality. There is an area where the leather is missing (sort of small hole) plus the lining on the heel looks so cheap. I have the maryjanes and loved them but this is sad. Has anyone else noticed such poor quality?
    TIA

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anony@7:08

I too was forbidden while I was adding items this morning. I should thank jcrew's server for doing so. Otherwise, I would be placing 10+ orders today (I was afraid losing items so placing small orders consecutively). However, to figure out a way to solve the problem, my work was interupted today. Nevertheless, I am glad I am prepared for tomorrow's update.

I think our initial IP addresses were banned by jcrew server somehow while they should not have been. Jcrew really needs to take a serious look at its web issues.

    ReplyDelete
  127. OT- Revolve Clothing just emailed me b/c an item on my order is out of stock. In the email, they apologized and offered a code for 25% off any replacement item. On top of that, they always have free 2day shipping and free returns.

I wish JCrew would offer a similar gesture. I think 10 items have been canceled for me recently and it gets very frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Anony@7:17

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. My hubby is an IT guy but out of town so I was left to my own defenses. Just think we were both excited and going to make lots of purchases and BAM!

Thanks for getting me all set for tomorrow as well but right now JC has left a bad taste in my mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anony@7:21

I know what you mean. I spoke with my PS at JCrew about reordering an item that they cancelled and was told I would be recharged shipping and handling. I said No, Thanks and told her to cancel my reorder.

  130. Anon @ 7:10pm.

I have the Alessia mary janes and the peep toes too, and I like them a lot, though I wish I would have sized up. The quality is good and both of my pairs seem ok. If the small hole bothers you, I'd take it back to JC; they'll exchange or refund for defective merchandise.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I have the peeptoes as well, and I have to say I was dismayed by their quality when I first opened them. I had to "scratch" of some black places (almost like sticky glue stuff, probably holding the leather together) off of many place on the shoe. They were definitely not up to par with what I expect or what I paid. I decided to keep them however, because I love the color (bright spearmint).

  133. I just purchased the Victoria Ruffle Cami in Cerise. It's such a bright color - any suggestions on what shade of cardigan I could pair it with?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Thanks ladies re: Alessia info. I went to the website and zoomed in on the Ivory peeptoe photo and sadly can see glue in places and a poorly made heel lining in the pic. I too had some black sticky stuff to remove on the top of the shoe. What is going on with the quality? These were regular $215, I bought them on sale but am still upset about it.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Does anyone have the entire new catalog to upload pictures of?? I am dying to see it!

    ReplyDelete
  136. Anon at 7:52 :

OH Wow! You are so right about zooming in on the picture! I checked out the bright spearmint ones and on the right shoe there is a pretty sizeble black mark on the side! You would think they would take care of that before taking the picture! Oh well, I still love the shoe and will be keep them!

  137. La Belle Helene:

You crack me up...I must look at the Paris J. Crew catalog once a week. I still try to style outfits from it on a regular basis.

Besides the Paris and Scotland catologs I have bought the most things from this winter's HOLIDAY catalog. I definitely look at the Holiday once daily to see what else I can try...

I can tell you one thing, I won't be doing the jacquard pants with puffer vest and fingerless gloves (some other JCA mentioned that photo's hideous-ness and I totally agree).

Maybe I will wear one of my creations from the Paris catalog soon and put pics on my blog trying it out (but there is no way I will ever come close to the awesomeness of their models).

    ReplyDelete
  138. Ah Dinagideon, it's always good to come across another Paris catalogue devotee :-) I think I could recite several pages from it from memory by now. I totally agree on the Scotland one - that's my second favorite behind Paris, and my favorite cover.

I was one of the ones who pointed out the absurdity of the cropped jacquard pants, fingerless gloves & puffer vest look - hello, girl, where are YOU going dressed like that?

  140. FFM, I love your sets! They have become my new go-to when I can't figure out what to wear. ;)

Any ideas for the Juliet heels in buttercup? Or the Merino Wave Cardigan (the one that is gold, yellow, bronze and white)---I hope I have the name right!
    Thanks!

  144. J. / Anon @ 7:41 - how do you know the EXTRA30 has been extended until Friday? I don't see that on the website and haven't received an email. If you just know because you know ;), I'll take that explanation.

Just curious and happy, if it's true. Although I really, really want to see some new arrivals. I want the silk tank with the scarf print. I bought every one of C&W's scarf print silk blouses way back in the 90's. Still have them all, only I had to make one into a short sleeve blouse because I wore out the elbow working at my desk. I don't wear them so much anymore as just gaze at them in my closet. Crazy, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Does anyone have the Editor tote or satchel? Or, have you seen them IRL? I'd love to hear some reviews of the new bags.

The tote looks impossibly large but I'm curious about the satchel. How is the distress leather? Is it soft? How are the colors? What about the resin chain?

    Comments anyone?

  146. My crackle metallic Mary Janes arrived with a few other items today and they are gorgeous. I am loving the toe cleavage and 3.5 inch heels. I inspected them thoroughly to ensure there were no defects and they are perfect. They say made in Italy, although the sole is man-made. :(

I tried them with the matching (non-crackle) belt and the faded matchsticks and they are so cute. I'd love to throw on a tank top and head out with some girlfriends. Too bad it's only 40 degrees outside. Can't wait to wear them so I'll try them with a suit tomorrow.

Woo-hoo, this is why I love J.Crew. The fun, unique and so-lovely-to-wear pieces. I don't get the same rush from anywhere else. I think it's the package arriving on my doorstep. It's like a gift if I forget about the credit card bill for a minute.

  147. La Belle Helene:

You are my soul sister. :) I could definitely wax poetic for hours about these catalogs and the gorgeous way everything is styled.

Do you or any of the awesome JCAs know where to find the February 2008 catalog on-line? I loved the Italy shots, but alas, my dear hubby got to it first and threw it away. Sob.

He almost threw away my "If" catalog from October and my July 2008 catalog. I said, "Honey, if you threw it away, it's okay, but you need to ask first. I actually use the pictures to style my outfits. And if you want me to look pretty on our dates, don't you want me to have inspiration?"

I think he knew he was in the dog house because he actually found them in the big green trash can for me. Well, maybe...or maybe he secretly has a thing for the beautiful blonde French model. :)

By the way, when you mentioned the absurdity of the fingerless glove/jacquard outfit in the posts, I nearly died of laughter. Good call on your part!

    ReplyDelete
  148. dinagideon - which catalogue is the Feb 2008? I may have it at our country house. DH never throws anything out and we get catalogues delivered in the city and in the country so it may be lurking somewhere. Hopefully not near the fireplace!

If I can find it, I can scan it.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I totally have the Feb 2008 catalog! I keep pretty much all the catalogs...people think I'm crazy, but I love it! I'm so glad you all understand! I will try to find it and scan it or something! I might even have an extra copy.

  150. FFM- You are an inspiration! I am slowly starting to build sets on polyvore, but with two little ones I can never find the time, nor the energy to come up up with the amazing sets you do! It is so generous of you give so much of your time to strangers. We really appreciate it!
    Thanks again FFM and Alexis!

  151. FFM - you are clearly talented. Thanks for your help with outfits.

Announcement: Crystal Pillow Ring arrived and it is my new favorite item. It is just the right level of flashy. The crystal ball cocktail ring (not proper name) is also cute, but a little too large in size. IF you don't have long enough fingers I could see this looking really awful... Paris stripe scarf also arrived today and its great, but a lot wider than i expected. More like a shawl or something.

And lastly, there is a dress from Old Navy I ordered for 15$ and it fits amazing!! I am including address here so that y'all can check it out. Its made out of ponte knit, which is same material J.crew makes some of their black dresses out of. Its only available in XXS right now or petite L, but they update every hour.

  153. FFM, just want to stay thank you again! I received my Old Navy denim jacket this morning. Love it! Fits well and the quality is great. Tried it on with a couple of outfits like with white jeans, sundresses - perfect for a day in the park, brunch, shopping afternoon... an overall versatile piece. Very happy :)

  155. Dear FFM,

    Thank you!
