  1. IMO-I feel like Gap is falling on it's face...HARD! They are the ones that usually get my money but even with the recent 30% discount card that they sent me--I cannot find anything to LOVE! This is very different than seasons past where they get me BIG TIME in the Fall--but not this time around. Something is going on with their designs this past year and they have gotten very little of my money because of it. Alternatively--I have become a J Crew junkie and gone WAY crazy:) Lucky you J Crew-you have made a BUNDLE off of me!

  2. Covert5: I know exactly what you mean! :) I have found over the years that there are not as many items I have been lusting over at the Gap (except their trouser leg pants). I find most of the items I lust over are J.Crew items. :)

  3. I hear ya ladies!! Patrick Robinson has taken over as head of design at Gap and it's gotten a little funky for me. If you'll recall he did a guest appearance at Target about six months ago. He's definitely a more "edgy" designer and I like things a little more classic. So....not for me this year. I really don't even walk in there anymore. Plus, as many people have noted on this blog, their quality is just not there.

  4. yes, don't walk into a Gap or a Banana Republic after shopping at J. Crew. Everything shouts, "cheaply made!" I still have some favorite Gap items that last and last and were well made, but they're probably from the Drexler days. . .

  5. I find BR has gone down in the last couple of years, the classic styles that I used to like are history, and most of their clothes are for work or parties.

  6. I purchased a small jacket from their sale section a few days ago. It was 33.99. Today, it's 44.99. However, the camis I purchased two weeks ago are still 25.99, so it looks like depending on what you buy, you might or might not get a real deal.

  7. I did purchase a few things on sale from Gap, basics like tees and sleepwear, which I happen to love from them. I am eyeing a few full price items, but will wait until 10/2 when I can use my 30% off full price items coupon.

  8. I also received this email but already placed an order with GAP yesterday for 3 pair of Perfect Trousers...I personally LOVE their pants and jeans...the choice of different inseam lengths is so great, and the cut on the Perfect Trouser and Essential Jeans is just FABULOUS ! :)

  9. PSA: I love the Wool Blazer at Gap now that is on sale. It is a nice tailored one-button blazer that can be worn with many things, and act as a sort of fall coat/blazer great with a scarf. I got both the darker brown and gray to wear now as an outerwear and later as a blazer.

I don't always love Gap things, but this blazer is really useful, well fitting, and a deal....

  10. I didn't mean to sound like I hate everything there--I actually do LOVE many of the jeans-trouser styles and of course basics like cute tees etc. But now I am finding I can get a basic tee that is so much more special and of course great quality at J Crew. So not to sound like I was making a broad statement that it was ALL bad:) I just don't find there are any really special tops, sweaters etc. that really stand out for about the past year. Just my opinion:)

  12. That's funny because I was a J Crew junkie all summer long, couldn't wait for Fall, and was really disappointed with the line this year. I wasn't feeling all the bright colors. I got so much of it for Summer, I was kind of over it and looking for something more muted for Fall. I found myself getting all my new Fall updates at none other than Gap.

I'm mid 35 so some of the line was too young for me (the drop waist shapeless dresses were not going to happen...) But the sweaters were so great---love the grays, the slouchy, moody look. I got a great muted rosy brown jersey belted dress that looks great with brown heathered tights and ankle boots. And a wonderful gray plaid trench that I just got in the store for $60! Has a removable wool lining---very warm and surprisingly nice quality.

I do have a ton of classic J Crew in my closet, but I get bored with it sometimes.... I like having some edgier options (especially for going out.) One item I am oogling right now at JCrew are the new bootcut cords in coral. I LOVE the color!

  13. Hi all,

This isn't a real active post, but it relates to this Gap post. I went to BR after work today and they were having 30% off your entire purchase (?!) and there was some new stuff and sale stuff.

Lately I hardly ever find things I like at BR, but I did find a really nice dress, a ruffle neck faux wrap dress made of a wool blend, 3/4 sleeves. The Neckline almost looks like black wool Frances blouse. Heres the link, enjoy!

PS The orange was super cute too. Would be good with brown boots.

  14. I have liked the colorways Gap is offering: all the plums and grays really work for me. My mother always said, when the season offers your colors, stock up! With the 20% off, I got a plum jersey dress (orig. $54, sale 18.99, then 20% off), a plum jersey gathered top, and a silk/cotton tie neck blouse in gray. There are some very interesting new pieces I can use and I like some of the less structured pieces. Very hit or miss but I really love the colors...

  15. I think BR's quality is the same as JCrew...it is all made in China...as far as constuction of the garment goes...I find plenty to wear at BOTH places and I am a stay at home mom....Plus, GAP jeans fit me MUCH better than JCrew jeans...
