Regular: $98.00

Et tu, J.Crew? J.Crew has jumped on the super-tight pants bandwagon some more with this latest offering described has having "it all—a little stretch, a supersoft feel and a sleek silhouette". Let me start off by saying that I do think the material is fantastic ("midweight viscose/nylon with a hint of stretch") and like the "jodhpur yoke detail along inside knee".

However, I am not a fan of these pants. First, these pants are way too fitted for anyone who has some curves. And because I do have some curves, I would feel very uncomfortable wearing these pants without a super long shirt or a-line flowy dress (to cover my hips and bum). Also the exposed zipper in the back is not very attractive. I think that for the price of these pants, the zipper could be better concealed. :) Lastly, I am not a fan that these pants are "dry clean".

What do you think of these pants? Do you love them or would you leave them? How would you wear these pants? Do you own a pair of these pants? If so, please let us know what you think. :)

  1. At $98, I would leave them. I can't imagine that they're appropriate to wear many places without some kind of tunic over them. Now, if they got down to say, $9.99, I'd pick up a pair and wear them with an untucked button-down (maybe one of the "his" shirts?) and flats.

  2. i was eyeing these pants from day one, and posted in one of the previous threads asking about the fit...whilei think it looks adorable in the outfit worn by the model, i do think it can potentially look terrible on me, becuase i don't have much of a bum, and i think there will be alot of excess fabric gathering between the bum and the thigh. i do like the exposed zipper, adds some flavor to the pant, overall love the look, but don't think it's practical on the avg woman. you'd have to have a perfrect figure to pull these off imo.

  3. Jersey knit pants for $98 that look like they came right out of a Michael Jackson video from 1983? I don't think so. All that's missing are the stirrups!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I have knock knees (?) I would look like an X in these pants since they are form fitting.

    ReplyDelete
  5. These pants are glorified leggings, and I hate leggings. Probably because my mom wore them all the time, one of her 80s holdovers. bleh. I'm petite, but I would be very uncomfotable wearing pants this tight. I do not like the zipper in the back, either. A side zip might have been better. These will be marked down soon, I bet.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It's a definite Leave It for me...*Jersey-Knit Pant* is just another name for overpriced leggings.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yep - I've got to say, my butt would probably not be seen in public with these pants on unless I wore a dress OVER them - in which case I would not pay $98 to completely cover them up!

    Yuck to the exposed zipper!

Not to say a super-model-esque woman could not pull an outfit off with these pants - but not most of us!! My $20 leggings/ tights from last year will work just fine, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Not too bad but it's the zipper than makes these a total Leave It for me...just looks uncomfortable....

    ReplyDelete
  9. THAT instead of than!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Holy Zipper Butt Crack Batman!

Not for $98. But, I bet we'll be seeing them for a lot less come November's clearance! *Laugh*

  11. I'd have to see them up close (how thick are they? More like a a pant or leggings) but for the price probably a "leave them".
If I did buy them I would wear them with some of the sweater dresses over at anthro or my super cute Teenflo silk tunic I bought this August. But you're right, without the right undergarments and the right top it could look tragic on all but those with a perfect set of legs, cute butt and flat tummy.

  12. SilverLining: I love the combo of the pants and untucked button down- that would look cute!

Anon at 8:46 AM & Montrose: I agree that these pants will look great if the person has a perfect figure (like the model). :)

Blumre: I laughed at the Michael Jackson video part! ;)

Heather & FFM: I didn't think of it that way, but you are right- they are glorified leggings. :) A side zipper would have been a fabulous idea for these pants!

Linsdey B.: I thought the same thing you did- If I wore these pants, I would have to wear something to cover them- which defeats the purpose of buying these pants. :)

Anonymous at 9:04 AM: I agree with you that the zipper looks uncomfortable when one sits down. :)

Prep-E-Girl: I definitely see them on sale soon too! ;)

  13. I am not a fan of the exposed zipper! I don't get it. Especially on refined pieces. Why why why does J.Crew do this?!

    ReplyDelete
  14. The other issue with the zipper is because it is uncovered anything long you'd wear over it like say a sweater of beloved silk tunic would be forever getting caught (and ruined) by the zipper. So I would say pass, even on sale!

    ReplyDelete
  15. ha ha - you guys are cracking me up! I actually saw these in person a few weeks ago at my B&M, and they are TINY! They looked like the crew had but a pair of new tights out of their packaging (you know, before they get all stretched out) and put them on a hanger! Total eighties stretch pants. Or old school ski pants. I can't decide which.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh dear, an exposed zipper? Excuse while I go order these from the red phone at the nearest strip joint. Yikes. J.Crew couldn't pay ME $98 to wear these.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Kater!
I am headed to a factory store this afternoon and can't wait to re-live Parix, redux :-) You're looking for the bella in camel, right? I'll make sure to see if it's on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  18. oops. I meant PARIS, not Parix. Sorry, I am just sitting down to my first cafe au lait.... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. thanks la belle! It's very sweet of you to keep your eye on it for me! And you're right - camel bella, and I'm hoping to get it for less than $100...

Thanks again! I hope you find lots of great stuff on your trip!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the pants would be chic for a casual/comfortable look with a long sweater jacket or a long belted shirt with ballet flats. However, I would not pay more than $50 for them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Off Topic: Are stores still doing 40%? I want to place an order online, but I don't have time to do it over the phone. Just wondered if I could place the order and hope to get the 40% applied by emailing them (kinda like they have you do with student/teacher discount).

I'm sure this is wishful thinking!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Leggings? Exposed zipper? Sorry, I did that look the first time around 20 years ago (when I was a size 0, which was then known as a size 4) and it probably did not look that good on me then. Do I need Ray-Bans and a Vuitton bag to go with them? Oh wait a minute, I think those are back too . . .

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good morning, Hexicon - you have the violet super 120s dress, right? Was there a jacket that went with it? I can't find one on-line - not in the same color, anyway, just the 120s material.

    ReplyDelete
  24. OT: Has anyone tried the "City-fit prima stretch wool pinstripe trouser"? I've been seeing them in the sale section for months now. They were regularly $175 and now marked down to $39.99. Seems like a good deal but not sure if there's a reason why. Just curious if any of you have tried them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ahahahaahaha, you ladies are on a ROLL! We're going to have to save this post for laughs! Kinda reminds me of Lindsay Lohan's line of leggings - 6126, I think it's called? Apparently, there's a pair with built-in kneepads... ick!

Anon, those prima pants are unlined - I was totally unimpressed with them at full price, but for the sale price they're not too bad... even better if you could get an additional 40% off!

    ReplyDelete
  26. my first thought was, j.crew is trying to sell leggings for $98?
Then I realized they are supposed to be fitted stretchy "pants." But they still look like leggings.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon at 10:10 AM. Yes, i think there is a reason why these pants are so marked down. I sent them back as soon as I received them. They were way too tight and as far as I remember they were unlined. Good thing I didnt buy it on final sale. I dont know if other just sized up in them I didnt bother to try again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am way too curvy to pull this off, but I think if you have the right shape it would look great with a tunic or boyfriend shirt! Also, just received this free shipping coupon in my current catalog: FS on $150+ now through October 4, 2008, use code ISB-90

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous @9:52a - B&Ms had 40% as of yesterday. I've never tried to have the 40% applied via email. Could be risky to ask for application of the discount after the fact. Maybe someone else has experience with that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This is J Crew going after the 'designer for less' crowd. I had thought these Jersey-knit pants were made from very thick. hefty jersey. I had also thought they might be cute in a jodphur-esque way. What a suprise to hear they're like tights. Also. I think the zipper is unintendedly fetishy. I think they were ggoing for 'a touch of lux' with that zipper. DKNY has a pair of jersey leggings at $95, and there are other designer leggings that get even pricier, (check Saks.com) If you're going to charge that much, they better be thick and high quality. I'd have to see these in person.

And although you MUST be thin to wear these, you can faked being toned and tight with a pair of Spanx.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hate leggings and that's what these remind me of, so it's a leave it for me too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is a definite leave it! Unless one has legs up to the armpits, these pants are going to look absolutely hideous on. The image of a Hippo in painted on tights come to mind! URGH!

    ReplyDelete
  33. these pants suck! that's really all i can say about them.

OT- does anyone know if the silky jersey tanks are still on sale in stores? i'm waiting for them to hit the online sale but so far still $50 ;(

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm probably the lone ranger out there who actually likes the zipper on the pants! I think it's a nice touch and makes them less "legging" like. I think it also gives them a bit of a retro feel.

The Watercolor Madison Dress has a similar type of zipper in the back. Although it is covered up by a little placket of fabric, it lends a vintage feel to the dress. The cut of the dress is very late 50s/60s, and the old-fashioned zipper just adds to that. I love it! It's just a nice little touch.

    ReplyDelete
  35. First of all--J Crew needs to stick to what they know and do best --THIS pant is not it:(

    Melissa-
FFM and I both got these for a STEAL! Mine came yesterday and I ordered more today--I LOVE THEM! They are just perfect under cardis and SO comfy! I was gonna ask FFM how she cares for hers. I am afraid to dry as they seem like fabric that would start to look bad(like Modal does--looks cheap after wash/drying). FFM if you see this please post how you care for yours-THX!

Call the 800 number--press 1 and tell them you want to order but want price match as your friend in FL-Orlando told you they were $34.99 plus they are having 40% off in store. They will be 20.99. I also got free shipping for having been in my store. They give me everything I ask for--I have NEVER had a problem and THAT I appreciate. Especially when things are falling off my recent sale orders with abandon-cancelled left and right!

    ReplyDelete
  36. This is OT, but someone asked for the link to the polyvore set I made w/ the serengeti tank so here it is:

    Serengeti Tank and Cardi

    Nothing exciting or special...

    ReplyDelete
  37. anon @ 11:50- thank you! do you remember the name of the CS you talked to, or what time you called?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Melissa-
No but due to my sickness, lately I call a few times a week and never, ever have a problem--no matter who it is:) Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is OT as well, but does anyone own the Lyndsey dress? I am curious about the fit around the hips. My hips are a different size (bigger) than my bust and so dresses that are perfect up top are often too tight around my hips. I can get around this problem if the skirt is fuller. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  40. LBH,
I did get the violet dress--took a few tries to get the right size. I never saw a matching jacket in the violet.

OT: going to take a moment to rant about the Clea ballet flat. I have several pairs of J. Crew ballet flats and these are the flimsiest. If I'd paid full price I would be even more annoyed. No reinforcement or structure at all. Last year's Lucia was fine but these won't even stay on my feet.

    ReplyDelete
  41. thanks, hexicon. I figured a matching violet jacket might be too much, actually. Did you buy a jacket to wear with it from the super 120s collection? I have a cropped black wool jacket i think would go well with it, but wondered if you'd bought one especially in the same cloth.

    ReplyDelete
  42. laura1, are you looking at the lyndsey full price? When I open the "sale" links to it, only fullprice colors come up - which happens a lot with this still-lousy website.

It looks like a great dress. I'd also love to hear how it fits.

    ReplyDelete
  43. anon @11:50: Regarding the Silky Jersey Tanks...I machine wash them on gentle cycle, and then line dry. However, after the 1st initial wash I did put them in the Dryer for a little bit of shrinkage, since they do run big...it seemed to help a little, too. :) Btw...I hope you get to feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Can anyone post link to polyvore sets they made with the pleated jersey tank? I got one on final sale, but when I tried it on again last night I'm afraid it looks too tent-ish, even though I sized down. Trying to get ideas of how to style it. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  45. cass: I have several of the Silky Jersey Tanks and often wear them tucked in or under a cardigan to help with the *voluminous* factor. I have made numerous Polyvore sets using the tanks...here are a few looks: Click Here , Here , and Here . Hope this helps give you a couple of ideas. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. cass- i've been worried about the same thing. i am xs already, so i can't size down. that's why i'm hesitating to buy this tank even though i love the style and the material looks soooo comfy. let me know what you figure out!

    ReplyDelete
  47. cass: I forgot to link one of my favorites with the Silky Jersey: Click Here .

    ReplyDelete
  48. THANKS to FFM for the care instructions and all the FABU outfits with silky tank. I wear xsmall and it is roomy through the body but I just do a little tuck to one side in my jeans (like the models show) and it takes care of everything (tent factor)-SO cute COMFY!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I thought theses were really cute when I first saw them - very Audrey Hepburn - but then I realized that I do NOT have the body type of that model and these pants definitely won't do me any favors. Plus, for the price, I'd be better off buying another pair of black knit leggings to get a similar look, albeit with a longer sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  50. J. Crew has always had a hard time understand that the majority of it's female customer base is not shaped like it's models. We're real women with real curves. Build those curves into your pants please!

    ReplyDelete
  51. No way. I just returned from Reykjavik and these types of pants, especially in black are all the rage. But American women have a much different perspective on their shapes and there is no way, in good confidence that I could wear these and feel like the fabulous princess I am...

    ReplyDelete
  52. any opinions yet on the solid harlow blouse? i am especially liking the fresh guava color.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Julia, my thoughts exactly! I think Audrey Hepburn actually wore these same pants in "Breakfast At Tiffany's" and while she looked adorable, it was 1960 and she was TINY.

    ReplyDelete
  54. LBH, I actually hadn't planned on wearing a jacket, though now that you mention it, I could try my black Abby in the 120s. I think I need a new necklace, since it didn't work with any of my pearl strands.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Totally OT, but I received two of the 4 boxes I have been waiting for so here is a quick review:

Sergenti tank: True to size. Got a 0 and it fits perfectly. Got the Maple Jackie (size Small) to wear over it and the two look fabulous together. I am keeping both of these.

Floral Lydia (size 0) and the Regal Purple Jackie (size Small) also look incredible together! Keeping both of these. :)

Black Hammered Silk tank (4P) and the Flamenco Dot Egyptian sweater (XS). Keeping both of these.

Also exchanged the Astrid (w/berries) for a Regular size 2 which fits me much better than the 2P did (it is 2" longer).

Finally got the Ivory Piper (size 0). I love these tanks with Jackie cardis and hope that they have something similar next year! :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. jcrewjunkie: CONGRATULATIONS! Everthing sounds FABULOUS! :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. OT: does anyone know at which point you can or cannot add items to order you already placed. If the order status is "released", does it mean it can't be modified? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  58. ANON--they won't even change an order 2 minutes after placed. You have to start a new one BUT tell them you just got free shipping (if that's your concern) and realized you hadn't placed an item in your bag. They might be nice:)

    JCrewjunkie-
    Sounds glorious!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Blumre: I saw stirrup pants in the little girls secion of target the other day. I just stood there laughing, remembering how "Cool" I thought I was wearing them back in the 80's!

    ReplyDelete
  60. 20 min is the amount of time that you have to change or chancel your order after it has been submitted. After that nothing can be done.

If you place a web order you can actually see the 20 min count down if you are logged into your account.

These pants are ugly, it is the 80's look coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I meant cancel your order, sorry about that.

    ReplyDelete
  62. OT-
    Leopard-beaded cardigan
    $2,800.00 item 96123

Hahahahaaahhaaahahaha! I don't get it. "Collection" or no collection my friends with LOADS of money to blow wouldn't think of buying this $2,800 sweater.
They have LOST their minds! They outta concentrate on investing $$ in other problem areas--not collection items that are priced at a laughable $. No need to mention those problem areas.
    Love U J Crew...I really do.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sorry this is off topic but has anyone else noticed that you can no longer "save" items in your shopping cart on the J.Crew website? It used to be that you could add items there and then log out and return another time and it would still be there. It's very frustrating - my keeps deleting.

    ReplyDelete
  64. marie-
I couldn't agree with you more! They NEED A WISH LIST! J CREW--are you listening??
Has someone ever emailed them about this before?

    ReplyDelete
  65. OT - anyone own the new dream v-neck sweater dress? I'm wondering how low the v is.

    ReplyDelete
  66. OT-Sorry but looking for feedback on Casa Rossa Jacket. Anyone have it? How does it run? THX!

    ReplyDelete
  67. OT - has anyone tried to iron a Piper tank? How do you remove the creases they have when they arrive after being shipped?

    ReplyDelete
  68. anon @ 3:09. I ironed my Piper after I received it. I just used a steam iron and very slowly increased the heat so I wouldn't burn it. The wrinkles came out great.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thanks for the tips about steaming the Piper! :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am also among the minority that actually likes these pants, and I especially like the exposed zipper - I think the zipper adds interest and serves as a statement that these are pants, rather than leggings or, heaven forbid - exercise tights! I would hope to find that they are a heavier weight than typical leggings, more like a winter-weight fabric. However, I will not be buying them at the full price - that is outrageous! I am curvy and have saddlebags, but I also have Spanx. In my dreams, these pants would have strategically placed extra lycra to eliminate the saddlebag issue. A girl can dream, can't she?

I would see myself wearing these in fall/winter with a long cardigan or belted tunic sweater, along with boots - classic Uggs, my new Ugg booties, or a pair of suede riding boots - kind of a casual apres-ski chic look. Now, if only I could ski!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I got the wrinkles out of my Piper tanks by throwing them (dry) into my dryer on low heat for about 10 minutes - the wrinkles came right out and the Piper is none the worse for wear. I have not, however, washed one of them yet, and I'm interested to hear if anyone else has? I'm inclined to try handwashing with lingerie soap and air drying. Any thoughts?

    jcrewmama

    ReplyDelete
  72. i washed my piper in cold water with woolite. it came out just fine! no color runs or anything. the only annoying thing is trying to iron that tie, i'm about to cut it off!

    ReplyDelete
  73. FFM, thanks for the links. ;)

OT, I e-mailed JC to inquire about an order I placed over 2 weeks ago that was still in la-la-land. I had already inquired about it twice but no one ever got back to me. They responded to this last email within 2 hours to notify me that the item indeed had to be cancelled b/c it was out of stock, but that they're sending me a $25 GC to compensate for the trouble. I thought that was nice--this is the 1st perk I have gotten as a result of the web screw-ups.

    ReplyDelete
  74. cass - congrats! I have an order too that is in la-la-land, although it's for new fall stuff, and isn't quite a week old yet. But I'm beginning to expect the worst...

I'm sorry you didn't get your item, but am glad you got some kind of acknowledgment of the screw up!

    ReplyDelete
  75. OT: I need your opinions! I know we had a coat post earlier this week but I think this post is where the activity is today....

I ordered the Galassia jacket last month - it was originally $400 something marked down and I had a coupon code so it ended up being $104. Anyway, it got cancelled and then it was available and then cancelled again, etc. I never did receive it and won't. Today I talked to a supervisor who said I could get any of the new coats for the $104 price....what should I choose???? Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  76. tammylee--sounds like a good deal! What type of climate do you live in and do you prefer dressy or more casual?

OT, has anyone tried on or bought either the striped amelia blouse(95483) or the alex sweater dress (88888)? They are both marked down a lot and have the potential to be cute or they could be tent-ish/maternity-ish.

    ReplyDelete
  77. TammyLee - Since most of the coats do go on sale and end up close to that price, I would pick something a little more fun. I have the Galassia, so know what you were going for. The stadium cloth Bridget in the Deep Persimmon or the Tulip in the Blue or Purple. They are both classic coats, but the saturated bright colors make them special. Of course, I say this not knowing your coloring or usual clothing expeditures. If budget is a consideration, get the Lady Day or Plaza in a classic color that you will use for years to come.

If you decide to get a blazer, try the metallic herringbone Clea.

    ReplyDelete
  78. cass: I'm in Wisconsin - it gets very cold in winter. And I'd probably like something on the dressier side.

    ReplyDelete
  79. tammylee: What an awesome dilemma!!! That price was great! If you're looking for something with the same "shimmery, fashion-y" look then there's the Giraffe Coat that's on sale right now.

Or if you want something more subdued, the Greta one is still different looking but still traditional at the same time. (It's also happens to be one of the most expensive ones right now. ;)

Finally, I'll tell you that my personal picks are the Lucille and the wool Tuesday Trench. (My climate is pretty mild most of the year so a long coat doesn't get a hole lot of use here in TX.) But if you're in a colder climate, Alexis had mentioned that the Stadium coat was incredibly warm. It's also a beautiful, traditional looking coat. Gosh, so many great options! Let us know what you decide!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Tammylee - If you are looking for something dressier and dealing with Wisconsin weather, try the Lady Day with thinsulate.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I'm still trying to decide.

jenn_brak: I was eyeing the Stadium Cloth Bridget in the Deep Persimmon.

weab: The giraffe coat looks kind of fun - I'm not sure if I like the bow though. The Greta is the one the supervisor I talked to recommended. It looks very chic.

  82. OT-KINDA

Noticed a lot of you talking about the length of time it is taking to fill orders. This is the first time I have had such an incredibly long wait as I watch things fall off of my orders-primarily sale stuff but one order has a couple Fall items as well. Do you think it's the ordering of sale items that is slowing things WAY down? have never seen it this slow. Usually just a few days later I see things coming off of open and then get a tracking number.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Regarding the long waits, I've noticed that sometimes the item is still listed as open after it has already shipped...once I received the shipping notice after I had already received the shipment. :) So maybe your items already shipped and you just haven't received them yet.

Anyone have the HEATHER GREY MARTINE CARDIGAN with LIME GREEN?
How do you wear it--any fun ideas??
How do these Martines run size wise?
    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I've been looking at these since they came out, they're like a cross between leggings and pants and I really like that! However, I'm short so I'm not sure if they'll be too long on me. Also, I really don't like to buy dry clean only clothing. If anyone owns these, it would be great to read a review!

    ReplyDelete
  86. anon @ 5:33, I recommend against getting the martine. I ordered one and then talked the SA into letting me return it even thouigh it was final sale, b/c the button on top is so heavy that if you leave it open, it pulls that half of the sweater down and looks bad. It is also another one of those in-between cropped lengths where it is too long to look purposely cropped but too short to look right.

    ReplyDelete
  87. ANON 5:49

Thanks so much for that info--what if you don't plan to wear it closed??

  90. How thinks that bum (the derrière in picture “JerseyKnitPant_BackView.jpg”) is real? Totally Photoshop’d…too perfect! IMHO, I like the zipper – think it’s sexy, draws attention to the area and is slightly tempting.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hm I think these pants look terribly slutty on their own, especially since I'm not a fan of the whole leggings trend. Now if you were planning on wearing a shirt that covered your rear end, that would be acceptable. It's disgusting to see kids go to school wearing a shirt and cropped leggings. Would you go out into public wearing only tights? I don't think so! It's one thing if you are lounging around but I like to look presentable for school.

Ps. If anyone was contemplating ordering items from last year, but was perhaps nervous that it was out of stock due to lack of picture... I say go for it! I ordered 3 sweaters from last season on Sunday and they came today!I was nervous that they didn't actually exist, but all is well =)

  92. I had a good laugh when I saw those pants--the 80s are back with a vengeance!

I personally have no problem making my butt look enormous--it does that on its own. If I put on those pants, some explorer would try to stick a flag in my butt and claim it as a new continent!

  93. KatherineD - Yeah - I am so happy you received your items! Which sweaters did you get?

  94. Everyone: I loved reading your comments about these pants- They were great!!! :)

JCrewJunkie: Thanks for the review. Also congrats on all the great items!!! I have the ivory piper too and love it. :)

Anon at 3:09 PM: I have the same question!!! I washed it in cold water with baby shampoo and then tried the steamer to the Piper tank but that didn't work out too well. I end up having to send it to the dry cleaner (which cost $7- I paid $30 for the tank!)

  95. These are not for me, but then, like others, I am not a fan of the legging look.

OT - still no tunic (originally ordered 8/7), but it's shipped an in NC today! I might actually get this one. :)

  96. jenn_brak: I got two cable v-necks (snow, bright alpine) and the argyle v-neck (gray with red and orange.)

Does anyone have any suggestions for washing the sweaters? The tags say dry clean, but I was thinking maybe hand washing and then letting it dry on the rack? I just don't want to a) ruin them and b) shrink them. How do you all care for sweaters? (they are wool/cashmere and wool/nylon/cashmere)

  97. anon @ 6:23, if you plan to wear the cardigan closed all the time, you won't have the button sagging problem. But as I mentioned, I also thought the length was a little too short.

  98. katherined, i recommend dryel for cleaning sweaters. a lot cheaper than taking to dry cleaner, and a lot easier than hand washing. i save a lot of money by using dryel for most of my dry-clean only garments.

  99. sorry off topic but I heard in my J crew today... that all 40% off clearance merch. will be moving to 20% tomorrow:(

Also several overpriced kids items (ie the $148 argyle ruffle sweaters) will be marked down to $89-still too much for me, but they are cute!

I did pick up the Cambridge crew in Aqua and think it will be a great one for the transitional Fall season

And I would have to leave these pants-omg!

  100. jcrewjunkie: your review of your great new items have inspired me to try the Serengeti tank. I've passed it by many times at my b&m because I felt it was a bit too bold for my taste. However, after you mentioned pairing it with the jackie in maple, I see it in a whole new light! I think the cardi helps tone it down a bit. Plus, I *love* the color combo so much that I think I may have to snag this set myself! btw, Congrats on some beautiful items!

  101. OT: "Dry Clean" is only a recommendation. It means that the manufacturer has not test the fabric/garment to determine its washability. That said, most garments that are labelled "dry clean" can be safely washed if you treat them gently. Use mild soap and air dry, or even put in the dry on air to fluff. "Dry clean only" means anything other than dry cleaning is at your risk.

How do I know this? My dry cleaner ruined a J.Crew dress by dry cleaning it and then explained the labeling system to me. He assumed the dress was dry clean because it had satin trim. But it turned out the the label said "hand wash only." Dress was made from brown twig linen fabric from several summers ago (2004?). Dry cleaning fluid stripped out all the color!

  102. Totally OT: JCrew model, Anouk LePore, is engaged to Jefferson Hack, founder of Dazed and Confused (magazine)/former husband of Kate Moss. I didn't know that!

Abijah: Regarding photoshopping the bum, check this out (confirms my suspicions that I would never look good in these jersey-knit pants!)

  104. Hello! I am new to the blog and wanted to ask a question about J Crew shoes. I am going to be in a wedding next month and would love to buy some new (black) shoes from J Crew.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on heels. I will be standing for a while and want something comfortable, but I don't own any J Crew heels so I don't know how they would stand up. Also, a lot of their heels are at least 3" high, so I was concerned if this would make the heels uncomfortable due to the long standing.

    Thanks!

  105. Audrey: Wow, it took me a while to catch what was going on in that picture.
They are shameless. I can’t imagine how much women they're putting in therapy.

  106. I actually have these pants and love them. Love the zipper, too. I wear them with boots and a tunic sweater or a buttondown shirt (polyvore user ptpkn). They run true to size and I washed mine on gentle cycle and they came out fine.

  107. Weab - I tried on the Serengeti tank and it is really beautiful on. Another aficionada Polyvored it with a purple jackie cardi. A great combo as well as jcrewjunkie's jackie in maple. I went ahead and ordered the tank on the phone today. I was tempted to gamble for a lower markdown price but decided not to risk it.

  108. jcrewmommy: I'll be sure to look for you on that airing of Oprah...sounds like you looked FABULOUS! :)

As for the dress: I also love the Gabardine dress, but agree that it is probably too low in back for a professional work environment. The wrap dress looks a little sloppy (IMO) and like the front might be too low, as well. That would leave the Super 120's Dress as the best option for you...I LOVE that it has the pencil skirt, boatneck, and the button detailing in back, too. All the colors are pretty, but my personal favorite is the Coal. :)

  109. Anonymous at 11:14 PM: J.Crew heels are not the most comfortable. I would suggest looking at some other shoes. J.Crew shoes (flats & heels) tend to be more pretty than comfortable. (And I own a lot of J.Crew shoes too!) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  110. jcrewmommy: I tried on the wrap dress in the store and was not a fan. I am smaller on top than in my hips and the hips were straining across my hips while my breasts didn't have enough, er, filler to make the top look nice. I'm generally about a size bigger in the hips than I am in the chest so it's not a dramatic difference but the dress did not look great on me. :(

  111. PS. Also, what FFM said is right, the wrap dress is a bit low cut! I was surprised, considering it seems geared more towards professional wear.

  112. Alexis - thanks so much for your comment on J Crew shoes! I was hoping that since they are so expensive that they would at least be a little more comfortable, but if I want them, I will just have to suffer with fashion over comfort!

  113. Anonymous at 10:01PM: Your welcome! I would like J.Crew shoes to be more comfortable but alas they are not. Like you said, for the price tag one would think they would also be comfortable. ;)

  114. oh wow! i just discovered this blog after googling these pants to see if anything had been written about them... what a find! my obsession with all things j.crew is downright geeky.

anyway, i've sort of been obsessed with these pants since i saw them online the first time. i didn't think i could pull them off, but i went into the store to try them on and i think with one of their longer v-neck cardigans, they look really cute--even with a "hilly" bum. i'm not a fan of leggings either, but these have way more of an audrey hepburn (as mentioned) or mary-tyler moore feel than anything related to the 80s. the fact that they don't hug the ankles makes all the difference. (and makes them slightly more flattering) and for anyone wondering about the thickness, they're certainly more substantial than your typical legging.

also, someone said something about being petite and i'm only 5'2 myself and must say, after trying them on, you'd definitely have to have them hemmed. bummer they don't come in petite :/

now i'm just trying to decide if i really want to spend the $98 on them... i was sure they'd go on sale soon and i'd snatch them up but was shocked when i returned to the store only days after i tried them on to find that there were only 2 pairs left--size 10 and 12--in the whole store! if all of you guys hate them, who's buying them?! ok, rant over :)

  115. Love them. Own them, and got more compliments on them than anything else I've worn in the past 6 months. The zipper is totally cute and gives them added style. They are on backorder through November from J. Crew.
