Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

Let me begin by wishing you all a Happy 4th of July! :)

Many of you might be going out this extended weekend. If you happen to stop by a J.Crew store, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few sale items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

I noticed that some of you have already been doing that in other posts (which by the way "thank you!") and I thought it might be a good idea to create its own post for this holiday weekend. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. Good Morning Alexis! Like I said in my post on the other topic...I made it to my J.Crew yesterday, and here are a few items they have available:

They had a ton of San Telmo Jackets in Black sizes 8, 10, and 12 if anyone is looking...they are $59.99 plus an addt'l. 25% off...the number is 407-226--9732.
They also had alot of the Solid Katie Sweater Jackets in Geranium at $29.99 + 25%, and also the Candace Jacket in Sweet Orange and Brilliant Blue for $49.99 + 25% off. :)

I tried on one of the Caterina Tops in a 0 and the "u" in the front was so low that it was indecent...too bad...it was $19.99 + 25% off, if anyone happens to be interested...

I am looking for the Striped Polished Cotton Babydoll Top in Black and White, Size Small...it was on sale in my store for $14.99+ 25% addt'l, but the smallest they had was a Medium...PLEASE let me know if you see my size at your store. Thanks!!!

  3. Hi there! I posted a week or so ago about some items that I bought during the final sale, but with all the Web site craziness, it took a while for them to arrive. Now that they're here, I wanted to let you know how everything worked out.

    So, here's what I got:

Swingy shirred pique dress in sour lemon: Very cute dress, but a little boxy. I'm thinking of adding a belt with this to bring it in at the waist. Overall though, a great summer weekend piece.
Petite refined canvas Fiona jacket in Sweet Papaya: I love, love, love this jacket. In the pictures it appears that it could be boxy, but it's not at all. The fabric has enough weight to keep its shape and the color is fabulous. I'll pair this with jeans for the weekend or trousers for work. BTW, I also picked this up in white at my B&M last week for $49 plus 25% off...what a steal!
Slub fleece zip hoodie in Mimosa: This is the softest hoodie that I've ever felt. Perfect for breezy nights!
School-of-fish Clea tank in Kelly Green: The fit on this top is so flattering and the print is super fun. I wore it the other day to work and paired it with a navy Jackie cardigan and got so many compliments.

Petite solid Frances blouse in True Aqua: Just like everyone else on here, I love this blouse! I just wish I had ordered it in more colors.

Embroidered Carmen tank in White: This is a great tank and looks very vintage. This will be a staple in my wardrobe this summer.

Gathered summer jersey dress in Kelly Green: I wanted to love this dress, but it's just too big and boxy. I'm hoping that I can fix that with a belt (perhaps the flower belt or metallic belt now that they're on sale?) because the fabric is so soft and the color is great. If not, it will be a cover-up for me.

Lisa dress in Navy: I am in love with this dress. It's super soft and just fits so well. I'm going to pick up a couple of additional ones in different colors.

Cristobal metallic flats in Silver: I paired these with the Lisa dress in navy and was actually stopped at Target by a woman who wanted to know where I got them! They are super cute and fairly comfortable.

Solid Jessie blouse in Sweet Orange: I was hesitant about this one, but the color is an orange that can work summer to fall, so that makes me very happy. Overall, pleased with the blouse and thinking of picking it up in ivory.

I'm thinking about going to the B&M this weekend. I went to the Lenox Square one this week (which takes serious effort because the sales people are so snotty) and wasn't overly impressed with the selection. Has anyone visited the Perimeter Square location? If so, how's the sale selection there?

    Have a great 4th!

  4. Hi Everyone! What a fabulous idea - a j.crew b&m info exchange.

I went to one of my local j.crew stores last night (Georgetown, (202) 965-4090) and their sale section was ok, but not great. They did have A LOT of the tulip jackets though - mostly in the really bright citron color, but I did see a few in the flame color too. Size six. Unfortunately FFM, they had the babydoll top, but only in the pink stripe, not black and white.

    Things I am looking for:

The polka dot san telmo (no results from my search yet, fingers are crossed)

The "giraffe" necklace. This one has been on sale for a bit, but is sold out online. It looks like the double strand sea horse necklace (http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/jewelry/necklaces/PRDOVR~95625/95625.jsp), but the beads are a gray color and are opaque, and the "critter" holding it together is a giraffe. Sounds weird, but I swear it is cool!

  5. hi alexis, FFM and all. i'll just repost from last night...the links weren't working last night so i didn't include them :)
    HAPPY 4h!! :)

...it's been a while...i'm suffering from "jcrew screwed up website fatigue"! ;)

i made my way to the jcrew at westfield in san francisco today but only came up with 3 of those straw flower belts for ~9.70 each...i got green, pink and orange...should be fun to wear :)

anyway, wanted to share a funny story...was in the city for a dr. appt. and my dr. was wearing some printed city fit cafe capris...i commented on them knowing they were from jcrew and turns out she loves jcrew and orders online often, etc., etc. we talked about jcrew cardigans, t-shirts, tanks...it was so funny.

FYI, she said the printed cafe capris run a size too small. i told her that i was on my way over to the store after my appt....there are a lot of aficionadas out there!

math teacher: i have the overdyed cropped matchstick jeans in soft graphite...they run a whole size big so i sized down for them. the associate told me that they run bigger than the regular denim ones. i have some dark wash denim ones and they are a size bigger than the overdyed ones. :)

also, there were tons of tulip jackets in citrus lime. they also had a lot of lana tops left in grey and spiced mustard. sorry i didn't note the prices but they were all 25% off.

i tried on the Crystal-button starlet jacket for size...they had it in pink but i'm eyeing the blue one. the jacket is nice and true to size but the crystal buttons are sort of rough on the button holes. it was $169

ok, just wanted to share...have a great 4th!!!

  6. Dawn,

Where did you see the metallic bow belt on sale? I see the flower belt, but not the bow belt.... unless you mean the crewcuts version? Just an FYI---the size small in the woman's size bow belt is too big to fit around your waist (to wear with say a dress.) I just bought one at the store and I brought it to a shoe repair shop to have extra snaps added so I could wear it both around my hips or my waist. (Cost $10) I considered the crewcuts version, but decided I liked the silver color better (available in the store for women) and liked having the option of wearing it both ways.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Dawn: Looks like you got a lot of really great stuff- Congrats!! I am also jealous you got the Fiona jacket- but still really happy for you! :)

kater: Thanks for sharing! I will keep an eye out for the giraffe necklace. I can't remember too well, but I think I saw one at either the Westport ((203) 226-2739) or Greenwich ((203) 661-5181) stores in CT a few weeks ago.

CCbMum: Thanks for sharing! I also think its great that you too can recognize J.Crew outfits on others.:)

    ReplyDelete
  8. dawn: Congrats on all your great purchases! I am curious about the Fiona Jacket...does it run small, large, true to size? What store did you see them at for the $49.99 + 25%? Thanks!!!

kater: Thanks for the info...btw...I think I MIGHT have seen that necklace at my store, but I'm not 100% certain...give them a call just in case: 407-226-9732. Good Luck! :)

ccbmum: Great story! :) I also want the Crystal Button Starlet Jacket in the Blue...let me know if you find it! :)

josie: So THAT'S how you got the Metallic Bow Belt to fit at the waist! The associate who was helping me at my store yesterday went through the entire "belt bucket" to find the smallest one, but it was still too big...now I know the trick...YAY!!!! I bet it looks FAB with the OldNavy skirt!

    ReplyDelete
  9. fabulousfloridamommy,
LOL--I did the same thing at the store! Finally the manager let us in on the secret that the belts are marked with a S, M, L imprinted inside the belt. So I finally found an actual "small" and had the extra snaps added. It really looks cute with the ON skirt which has a nice wide band. I'm trying to work with my perfect tees to see the best way to wear them with all of the jcrew belts I own but never wear! The models always seem to be able to wear the tees with belts without tucking. They have that casual scrunched loook with the belt peeking out. The size S perfect tees are too long on me and totally cover the belt even on hip slung pants. These models must have freakishly long torsos or something! LOL

I have to say I do love the look of a perfect fit tee, great pair of favorite fit pants just skimming the floor and an adorable belt peeking out. It's a great outfit that makes you look like you didn't try too hard but still look chic and put together. Just have to figure out how to make it work!

  10. Hi Ladies - Happy 4th of July! I am in desperate need of help. I would like to get the Joelle blouse but I have two concerns.
    1. is it super sheer?
    2. how does it fit?

There is only a 6 left. I just acquired a lana top in 8 and think I might be able to do the 6 since th cut seems looser on the bottom. Any advice???

    ReplyDelete
  11. hi yogichicki:
the joelle blouse is very sheer but i have it in regal purple and i think i can get away with it on it's own since it's a dark color. the fit is loose and flowey but i like it. i wear a size 0 and it's flowey on me...but the shoulders fit me fine...that is the look of the shirt. i can't go down any more sizes anyway :o! but i like it...it's a different look than what i normally wear. the material is lovely but if you get a lighter color you will have to layer over/under it :) i can't believe that it's only $19...you can always wear it as a fabulous layer if you don't love it :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. ccbmum: thanks for that, I wanted the burnished moss, but the only one left is regal purple. I figure for $20 plus free shit, I can give it a whirl.

    ReplyDelete
  13. josie: Too funny...if only the associate or myself had known that "insider" tip about the size ON the actual belt itself...now at least I know how to get it made smaller. Thanks again! :)

Btw...I completely agree about the outfit you described (happens to be one of my regular outfits, as well). :) Try only tucking the tank in a little at the front and leave the rest out, but sort of "bunched" up. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. yogichicki: Free WHAT??? LOL!!!!!

FFM: Let me know if you find the Babydoll top since I have been lusting after one for AGES!

How is everyone wearing their Frances blouses? I am anxious to know.

    HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!!

  15. Hello, everyone! So this one is about the Palo Alto, CA J.Crew. This one always has amazing turnover on sale items -half the store is women's and half of that is generally a sale section. Everything was also an extra 25% off.

I think that the prices that people are stating at their local J.Crew's are consistent with this one, except that the sale selection is huge (and messy!). I didn't always check prices, if I wasn't interested in an item. Sorry. :-/

The only differences I can think of is that it has all Piper tanks on sale 59.99, not just certain colors. And it had some bell-shape-at-the-elbow jackets in flame and citron. And it also had the v-neck polka-dot rosette dresses for $99.99 in mustard and pewter gray (that doesn't seem to be consistent across the board). There were lots of favorite tanks, strapless embossed dresses ... I'm visually walking around the store now and all I'm remembering is explosions of color!!!

Oh, and there were lots of Sanur dresses, in all sorts of sizes and colors. Limited shoe selection (very weak :( ) That's all I can think of for now. :)

  16. I just went to the outlet yesterday and had an amazing shopping trip! I found everything I had been looking for/wanting. I will be posting on my blog later today/tomorrow

  17. Hi Melanie. Did you see any Slub Cotton Enamel Paillette Tank tops? I have a small size, but it's too big. I am looking for a XS size, prefer navy color, but gray is okay. 92155.

  18. Happy 4th, ladies - I am so happy to have stumbled across this blog quite by accident today! Other people who are as addicted to J.Crew as I am - what a relief to know I'm not alone (now, if it only made my husband feel better to know I'm not the only one . . .) But I digress. :-)

I just got off the phone with J.Crew Customer Service, and I wanted to share what I've learned. I called because I needed to clarify a credit amount on my credit card statement. I had purchased several items and returned most of them, some of which were Final Sale (and thus, non-refundable, allegedly.) However, I'd already shipped them back before I'd realized what I'd done. I was contacting them to clarify whether I'd been refunded for those items or not. (If I hadn't been, I wanted the items back to trade, sell, etc.) The Rep was, as usual, fabulous, and she was very clear in stating "we're not really strict about that, not at all" about Final Sale items being returnable. I would hazard a guess that an in-store return might be questioned, but it seems that sending the item back will get a refund, regardless. No info as to whether this is as a response to complaints, or whether they are cutting shoppers slack to get used to the new policy, but either way - it's worth a shot.

BTW, my J.Crew purchase for today was a mix and match swimsuit in Kelly Green (the adjustable-side tie hipsters and the twist bandeau top), as well as the Silk Elizabeth Halter in black. No discount coupons, but I did of course get the freeship discount. The bandeau top is waitlisted until July 7, but it should arrive only 1-2 days later than the rest, if at all. (I've had previously waitlisted items arrive with the rest of the order with no explanation.) Always a nice surprise.

I live in Southern NH, and the closest J. Crew retail store is a little over an hour away in Salem, NH, so I don't often get there. There is an outlet about 15 minutes from my house. I can get deals on t-shirts and basics there, sometimes a jacket or accessories, but most are out of season or test-runs of styles. I don't go there in search of anything I've seen online or in the catalog. I usually shop online anyway because I wear petite sizes, and the website issues are seriously cramping my shopping style! I hope the end-result is worth it and not just a facelift. The suggestions I've seen that you all have listed are fantastic - I hope TPTB are reading and taking notes.

Thanks for letting me join in the conversation. I look forward to hearing what you love and what you return, where deals are to be had and what my favorite clothier, J. Crew, is up to!

  20. Happy 4th everyone,

Just wanted to mention I was in the Boston store today, and there was a medium size sale selection. One Joelle blouse in burnished moss (size 8), still marked as $39.99 I think but you could probably get the price lowered to match the website's price of $19.99. Lots of (sorry, don't know the style name) sleeveless silk cowl-neck tops, with a keyhole back that also ties behind the neck. They're polka dotted and in colors silver, magenta, and kind of a chartreuse/green.

I also noticed Lilah dresses in pink and blue/purple. Interestingly, I bought this a few weeks ago at 25% off $29.99; now it's $59.99. That's the website price, too, so maybe the stores accidentally marked them lower and corrected it??

  21. OK, my Fourth of July has been super soggy so far. :( I had to scrap the outfits I had been planning to wear and go with something that would ward off the damp air, yet still be summery enough that I wouldn't look ridiculous! I finally settled on the Polka-Dot short in the grayish color (can't remember the name), white Favorite tank (I wear these almost daily!!), and the Antique Fleece Shawl cardigan in white along with a pair of silver flip flops (from Aeropostale...they have a rubber bottom and are sort of nonskid...good for chasing after a 3 yr. old!!) I accessorized with a pair of silver hoop earring and my Pandora bracelet. Another happy clothing day thanks to J Crew :)

  22. jcrewjunkie: It sounds as if you are looking FABULOUS once again!!! We seem to have VERY similar style in the way we dress, and also seem to adore and desire the same pieces. ;)

I always enjoy reading what you and others have put together. :)

Btw...did you happen to see the posts from josie and myself about the Old Navy Skirt? It really IS adorable, and is very similar to the J.Crew Cotton Taffeta Belle Skirt we have also been desiring. ;) Check it out if you get a chance...I think you will be pleasantly surprised...I know I sure was. :)

  23. FFM: Is it online? do you have a link to the skirt? I would LOVE to put it with a fuchsia top!!! Gotta love pink and gray!!

    jcrewjunkie :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. jcrewjunkie: Unfortunately the skirt is ONLY available in the stores...they come in Gray and Black and are on sale for $20!!! They are called the High-Waist Skirt...I can give you the item # if you want to call your store to see if they have them.

  25. I am so jealous of the posts by people who got the straw flower belt for under $10.00!!! What a great deal:) I wish they would go on sale online...I don't have a store anywhere close by...I will keep watching the website.....although I haven't been on at all this week since a quick check Monday/Tuesday b/c of the changed website and problems. Too many other things to do with my time:) 3 birthdays in my family this week alone;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon @ 4:41: Sorry to hear that you don't have any stores nearby...I only have one, and if they don't have what I am looking for, I am also out of luck...the next closest store is 100 miles away. I actually looked for the belts at my store yesterday, but it doesn't carry alot of accessories, unfortunately. :(

Congrats on the birthdays...that is ALOT to celebrate...I can see why you have been so busy, too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. anon @4:41: i thought i saw the straw flower belts on sale online at one point but they aren't listed as such any more (the website is a mess!)...you can call in your order and tell them that the straw belts are 12.99 + 25% off in the store in San Francisco on Market street. they can call to verify and give you that price :)

  28. ccbmum: How is the fit on the Crystal Button Starlet Jacket?

    ReplyDelete
  29. melanie: How much were the Tulip Jackets? They are the one's with the bell shape at the elbow in Flame and Citron...:)

    ReplyDelete
  30. FFM: the fit on the Crystal Button Starlet Jacket is true to size and has a nice (not oversized) fit. i was worried that there might be too much material to wrap the belt around but surprisingly there was not. the belt is higher than your true waist so it felt a bit wierd but it looked really nice. i wish they had it in blue so i could see how bright the blue really was. i like how they show it on the web with the grey underneath and jeans. i can't quite justify buying it for that price since i already have a 3/4 sleeve cardigan in a similar color - BUT maybe if (when) it gets cheaper i might go for it :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. ccbmum....i love you suggestion....i did call and the CS agent wouldn't do it:(

    ReplyDelete
  32. FFM: If you could give me the item number I would soooo appreciate it!

Also, what is everyone wearing their Frances blouses with? I have two of them and am hoping that I can find two more (white and aqua). They are so feminine and pretty!

Does anyone own the Candace jacket? Any thoughts on it? I think that they look so pretty and I think that the sale price makes them even more attractive.

I know that we had a post on the Tulip jacket, and for the most part it did not seem to be very popular, HOWEVER (and I know that they have a TON of this color left) I have gotten so VERY many compliments on mine which I own in the Citrus Lime color. I wear it with a white Favorite tank and the Gliter-Dot Linen Cuffed short and it really does look stunning. I realize that the bell sleeve will date it quickly (much like the Fiona jacket), but I cannot begin to tell all of you the compliments that I have received when wearing this. It makes a tan look incredible as well. :)

  33. OK. I called back--got a different rep and I had to ask her directly to call the store---she did and I got them! All 4 colors for the SAN FRAN SALE PRICE thanks a TON...You rock!

(Was on hold forever---just to let others know things are still moving slowly)

    I got the belts...thanks ccbmum

  34. ccbmum: Thanks...if I am a 4/6 in J.Crew tops with sleeves, then which size jacket would you suggest? Is it tight in the shoulders? I am also waiting for it to get marked down...I would LOVE to wear it with my new Gray skirt from OldNavy, or the J.Crew Cotton Belle Skirt in Dark Fog, when it gets marked down...

    ReplyDelete
  35. jcrewjunkie: The item number for the skirt is 454220 and it is called the High Waist Sateen Skirt...good luck! :)

I tried on the Candace Jacket in the Sweet Orange size Small, and really liked it...it's very Jackie O looking (which I ALWAYS LOVE, as she is my Style Icon). It is only $49.99 at my store w/an addt'l. 25% off, so you can call CS and tell them that it is that price at the J.Crew at Mall of Millenia in Orlando, Florida...phone #407-226-9732, and hopefully they will give it to you for that price (if you decide to get it). I was debating on whether to get it or not, but since I did not have an unlimited budget on my visit...I opted for the San Telmo Jacket in Black, the Navy Elizabeth Halter, the Solid Katie Sweater in Geranium, and a Ruffle Collar Pique' Henley in Black (which is not sold online). I almost purchased the Andy Jacket instead of the San Telmo, but will wait for it to be reduced more, as well...it is on my Wish List, and is also VERY Jackie O!!!

  36. Hi! Was just at the jcrew at South Street Seaport in NYC, and the had the piper tank in blue, grey, lime. I almost bought the lime color since it was the only one in a size 0, but then decided not to. I would have liked it I'm blue or grey. They also had the Capri sandals, some of them marked &19.99. I am also interested on people's opinion on the candance sweater. At first, I didn't think much of it. But when it went on sale for $49.99 plus the 25 % plus my 15% educator discount, I couldn't help but give it a try. I ended up liking it, and bought the orange color. I'm thinking about buying the bright blue now but can't decide!
Many of the stores on NYC still have a lot of the tulip jacket. I haven't worn mine yet, but got the citrus lime at $49.99 with the additional discounts. Great deal!

  37. anon @ 5:19: that's EXCELLENT...glad i could help! that's what this blog's all about...Thanks again to Alexis for creating this blog! i'm sure the first CS rep just didn't feel like doing it given the web fiasco and all...it's great that you called back!

FFM: hmmm, i'm thinking about how the Crystal Button Starlet Jacket looked when i tried it. the sleeves are raglan and i don't want to say that they bulge out but they aren't tight. there is definitely room in them. they are not at all tight-fitting like the katie sweater. if you can do either a 4 or a 6 then you might just go with a 4? i hope that helps ;) it's times like this when this *final sale* business is really annoying...you can't try stuff on that way. but i'm sure if when you're ready to buy you buy both they would take one back even though they're final sale...they always budge on that :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks ccbmum! I hope they take a drastic drop in price soon! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. FFM: me too! it really is a pretty fabulous look! they have all sizes/colors in stock right now so i bet they'll go down in price even more!

  40. Ok...I know this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find exactly where, so I will ask it again: What is the suggested sizing on the Frances Blouse? Is it better to go with your regular size or to go up a size? Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. newyork0311: Congrats on all your purchases! The Candace Jacket is the same price at my store, as well...like I said previously, I really like it, and I think the Brilliant Blue is just beautiful...it would be gorgeous with White Pants this Summer and then Dark Gray or Dark Denim this Fall and Winter...the price is so excellent, too! :)

  42. fabulousfloridamommy: I'm thinking about running to the store to get the candance jacket! :)
I have the frances blouse (aqua, lemon, black/white, teal/ white - last two from ebay- and yesterday got the cherry blossom on at the jcrew @ Colombia circle). I am a size 0 and I have to say that it fits true to size. I probably wouldn't go up a size because it is meant to be fitted, I think.

  43. newyork0311: Thanks! Btw...if you go back to the store, will you see if the Tulip Jacket in Bright Flame is available in a 4 or 6? I am also looking for the Striped Polished Cotton Babydoll Top, Size Small in Black and White...if you have time. :) THANK YOU!

I can't research this now, not enough time but I will tonight/tomorrow to see what is going on with these orders.

By the way, I'm wearing my white popover blouse, navy refined twill cuffed shorts, JCrew twisted braid leather belt & a couple of glow bracelets. Gotta love the glow!

  50. Hello Ladies!

I stopped by a J.Crew (at the Promenade Shops in South Windsor, CT; 860-648-2739) and saw the Black San Telmo Jacket there. I was able to buy one (size 2) for $38 (sale for $59.99, plus 25% off, plus 15% educator discount).

The prices I list below are BEFORE the 25% off all sale items price:

There were two black San Telmo jackets left in size 8 and either size 10 or 12.

They had lots of Andy jackets (item 94138) in all sizes.

They had an Elizabeth halter in white (size L) for $59.99 as well (just one though).

They had one Cherry Blossom Frances Blouse in size L.

They also had those change wallets (style #: 96183) made of leather (originally for $29.50) for just $9.99 in all colors like black, green, and yellow.

They had a few cotton pique navy jackets in sizes from 4-12.

They had lots of Airy ribbon washed favorite tank in navy, grey, white in all sizes for $19.99.

They had lots of Jessie Blouses (with the beautiful pindots) in all sizes in white and yellow (including size 0) for $39.99.

Lots of Slub-cotton wrap-front tanks in all sizes and colors for $19.99.

They had a few of the Solid Piper tank (item 94163) for $59.99 in yellow and white.

  51. Also the cotton pique jackets were selling for $59.99 at the store I went to.

Okay- Now I have a bit more time to write. (Sorry about the last post, I just wanted to write it all before I forget.) :)

To everyone: Thanks for listing what your stores had available! Really, thank you so much- this is really the best community ever!!! :) (I mean it too!)

Aly/The Fashionista Social Worker: Thanks for joining in on the conversation- we are happy to have you!!! :) Also, congrats on your J.Crew purchase of swimwear. I think the Kelly Green is a beautiful shade!

JCrewJunkie: I also own the Antique Fleece Shawl Cardigain in white- I just love it! Classy & Comfortable all at the same time! :) As for the Frances Blouse, I wear them with a simple white tank top underneath. :)

FabulousFloridaMommy: I looked for the Striped Polished Cotton BabyDoll Top and unfortunately they did not have any in any color. :( Also the sizing for the Frances Blouse is true to size (as I am generally a size 2, but can be size 0 in some things). I found the sizes 0 was a bit tight (but totally wearable as I have two of the Frances in size 0) and the size 2 to be perfect.

To Anonymous at 4:41PM: I saw a whole bunch of the straw flower belts (and for like $15-19 in all colors before the additional 25% off) at the J.Crew in Westport, CT a week ago. Maybe they will still have the one you are looking for. :)

  52. Ok, ladies, I am a newly converted J. Crew lover and I have a question for you all: I placed an order (FYI, for the critter-collar polo in Sweet Papaya) on Tuesday morning (the 1st).

    If you have ordered it,

    a) does the size run large or small? I am a pearish shape and my bb's are big but my waist is littler so larges tend to drape over me but mediums can be a little snug in the chest, especially when buttons are involved. I went with the medium.

    And

    b) My order status shows that my item does not have personalization. I was not given the option to personalize during check-out. Does this mean there will be no critter on my collar, or did I just not get to choose the critter but there will be one, or what? I love the cute little critter stuff!

Also, if I do get a critter, are they all the same or different critters for different colors and if so, which critter will I get with my peachy melba-type polo?

If you understood all this and can offer advice/suggestions/input, then Thank You!!!!!
    ~Rachael

    ReplyDelete
  53. rachael: I think that the critters are already on the collar. Personalization is when you want to monogram it with your initials (someone please correct me if I am wrong). I use this rule of thumb when ordering J Crew polos. If the placket is LONG I order a size up to prevent pulling at the buttons. If it is a regular length placket then I order my regular size. On the critter collar polo it looks as if the placket is longer so you may find that a Large would be better but you won't know until you try it. I don't think that you will have a problem exchanging it if need be (even if it is a Final Sale item). The color you chose is very pretty and I agree with you that their "critter stuff" is adorable. Enjoy, and please let us know how this fits. The nice thing about this blog is that you can find out what does and does not run large by reading other's reviews!! :)

  54. Hi Alexis-

I really enjoy your blog. All of these comments are so helpful!

Would it be possible to have a post dedicated to J. Crew's Jeans? The sizing is so confusing....the trouser jeans seem tts, but the jeans sold by waist size seem to run small. I think this would help a lot of people. Thank You!

    ReplyDelete
  55. FFM: I will see if the two items you're looking for are available and let you know! :) I don't remember seeing the babydoll, but have seen a few of the tulip jackets in red. Love that jacket!

  58. I didn't go to JCrew, but made a trip to Old Navy. The tafetta-belle lookalike (high waisted skirt) is very pretty but doesn't hang right on me somehow. I tried different sizes, and yeah, better to go with a larger size so that the waist sits lower instead Instead, I chanced on the sharkskin skirt and love it! It has weight and drapes beautifully on me.

  59. Hmmm.. Am I brave or just plain indecent??? I wear just a nude color bra under all my Frances blouses - sour lime, true aqua, black floral and cherry blossom.

It's a bit more low cut than I like, but with the way it clings to my body (and the heat these days) I find it hard to wear a tank or camisole over it unless I got in a larger size.

  60. Happy 4th to everyone:)

Vivian: I wear the Frances blouse with a nude colored bra. Mine is sour lemon color. Although the blouse has a low neckline, the detailing of the blouse makes the blouse look fairly conservative. I normally wear a size 2, but because my bust/cup size is small, I settled for a size 0.

    ReplyDelete
  61. In response to the jeans post. The newish vintage slim jean is running very large. I am stuck with a pair that I have never worn and is supposed to be a size 27 but is more like a 29.

  62. Happy 4th of July Alexis & Everyone!

I went to J.Crew shop in Carmel-by-the-Sea (831-624-2803) today and found some good sales with additional 25% off. Platinum linen bermuda was sold $59.99 (size: 2, 4, 8, 12 etc, at least six or eight bermudas were in stock), Cha cha dot pencil skirt $69.99(both olive and mocha), Ticking-stripe bermuda $39.99 (pink and soft graphite), Crocheted-petal hobo bag $29.99 (pink, white, maybe black???). I was surprised that this shop offers discount for relatively new items. Solid Kayla blouse $39.99 (black, red, white, On-line price is still $69.88), Flowy jersey bateau dress was $59.99 vs online price $88.00 (dark slate, navy, strawberry; a shop master wore this dark slate dress with a white shirt and tan-colored boots, which was really cute!), Polka-dot rosette dress $99.99 (Online price is still $168, a couple of light pewter dresses were available), Chiffon-trim tissue tank $24.99 (online price $38).

I ordered a couple of Beaded Flower Tie Belt for $29.99 on line, but I really regret to buy them on line because the shop offers 25% discount... Maybe I won’t buy on line for a while.

I know this shop is located in middle of nowhere, but this cozy little shop is my favorite so far:)

  63. hdayton: I am actually glad to hear this. I got a size 26 (which is the size I usually wear) and literally was swimming in them. I was sure that they had been mismarked. Why are they running so BIG when I want them so much! AAAAAaaaahhhhh!!!

    jcrewjunkie

    ReplyDelete
  64. I ordered the jeans back in Feb when I saw them paired with the Joelle cami, summer weight cashmere cardigan and the turquoise bubble necklace. I ordered the entire outfit. The jeans didn't work out but I loved everything else.

I have been wearing j.crew for 20 years and can usually wear it right off of the rack with no alterations. But these jeans are something else!

    ReplyDelete
  65. hdayton: Is the bubble necklace HUGE? I have lusted after it for ages, but being smallish 5' 4" I didn't want it to overwhelm me. What is your opinion?

    jcrewjunkie

    ReplyDelete
  66. jcrewjunkie and hdayton: i don't know what's up with jcrew jeans lately...the overdyed cropped matchsticks are a whole size bigger. thankfully i bought them before they went on final sale and was able to exchange for the smaller size. i wear a 27 in the blue denim ones but had to go to 26for the overdyed ones...the 27 was HUGE...very strange.

i've also worn jcrew for 20 years!! :) their pants have always been difficult and inconsistent in sizing for me. i have much better luck with gap/banana/old navy ones...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jcrewjunkie~ THANK YOU!!!! I will definitely keep you posted on the fit of the polo. It is long placket so I'm slighly worried, maybe if I don't wash it in hot water and just air dry it...LOL

To everyone else: At 7:20am today the site was running like normal, it was very fast! Not used to that anymore haha.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yes, the website is running at normal speed but items are still incorrectly listed as sale when not...and visa versa. I can't understand why that wasn't fix right away and is a continued problem....

  69. Hi Alexis! I am a regular reader of your blog....I am eagerly waiting for the 25% off to show up on the website...Deepti

    ReplyDelete
  70. jcrewjunkie: The necklace is big, but is very flattering (you can adjust the length). Just keep everything else minimal and in proportion and I think you'd be happy with it.
I am a few inches taller than you, but my sister is 5'2 and she wore it with a black sheath and looked stunning.

    ReplyDelete
  71. anon: Hope you don't mind me chiming in, but IMO the bubble necklace is quite large. I absolutely loved it when it first came out and had to at least try it on (even though I'm not sure I could have brought myself to spending the $150 on it.) I was actually *relieved* to see that it was overwhelming on me, and I could stop obsessing/lusting after it. I love it in the pictures/on the models, but really just didn't like it at all on me. 77. aly, I have that top as well and love it! I'm a 2 and the 2 was perfect, definitely fitted - I've worn it with a white pencil skirt, and I've worn it with jeans - it's just an all-around great top. Almost wish I'd gotten it in the blue color as well (Bright Pacific, I think?)

  80. Alisha: I just got back from my store in Charleston, SC, ((843) 534-1640) and they had several of the brushstroke tops in blue. I didn't check the sizes, though. Several things that are on sale at other stores weren't on sale at my store. That drives me crazy!

On another note, I would love to find the Glass-bead and fireball bracelet in turquoise. It's showing up online, but when I click it says $null. My store had it in black and coral, but not turquoise. If anyone sees this while they're out, I would love to know where. I should have bought it when I first saw it, but now I've waited and it's gone! :(

I bought the city fit buttery twill pants today, and I love them!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Good morning all! Love reading all the info about J.Crew on the blog. Has anyone purchased the Double-Strand Seahorse necklace or the Starfish cuff bracelet? If so, what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Alisha: I just reread my post and it sounds like the brushstroke top wasn't on sale and it was! Sorry, but I didn't check the price either. However, it was in the sale section and the store was having an extra 25% off.

I noticed that the city fit buttery twill trousers aren't on sale online, but they were on sale (39.99) in the store. Yeah! :) So, with the extra percent off and teacher's discount, I paid 25 for them.

  85. This is what has me the most frustrated with the new jcrew.com...it is that I no longer know when the sale merchandise is going to be updated. I used to be able to get up early and find that they had added things to their sale pages, and now I don't see any soft of pattern. Additionally, I KNEW that on Wednesday morning I would find tons of new things. This makes me sad...it's like part of my day has been disrupted in a not very good way! LOL.

  86. Has anybody tried on the Eliza Cami? Is it true to size? I'm usually a 0 or a 2 in J.Crew tops. I'm leaning toward 0 because I don't want it to be loose in the bust as I am only 32B. I found a 0 in silver and 2 in charcoal on ebay. Please help!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Aly,
I just sent back a size 2 and 4 in the Rose Bateau top in orange. I felt that it was true to size (the 2 worked for me) I just didn't love the print on me as much as I thought I would. It didn't feel "me" I guess. All in all it was a cute top though. The material is lightweight, but not so sheer that you need to wear a cami with it. It's not a "tucking" type of blouse though---it's more structured and would look better left out.

    ReplyDelete
  88. olga: I think the Eliz cami runs pretty big, just like the Suzannah Cami...I wear a 0/2 in J.Crew Sleeveless, but a 4/6 in J.Crew with sleeves (broad shoulders)...I tried the Eliza in a 6 a few months ago and it was HUGE...I wear a 2 in the Suzannah, and I am a 34B/C...I would suggest you go with the 0. Did you email the seller for measurements?

  89. Thank you EVERYONE who has been on the lookout for the Babydoll top and Jackets for me...I really appreciate it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. olga, I have two Eliza camis and love them! I am a 34A and size 2 in tops and found that the 2 fits perfectly. I got a 4 as well from final sale way back when and it's cute, but the fit up top isn't quite as snug as I'd like, so I usually layer that one and wear the 2 solo. Hope this makes sense!

    ReplyDelete
  91. jcrewjunkie: I completely agree! I hate not knowing if/when they will add anything, but I have been told by several CS reps that they won't be adding any new merchandise until the website is working efficiently, so I really haven't even bothered checking much lately...I miss my morning J.Crew routine, too! ;)

Well, nothing new on J Crew website. Can't go shopping since my toddler won't hold still. So frustrating that jcrew.com not working.

kater: There's a Double Strand Giraffe necklace on ebay right now. The opening bid is 9.99 with no reserve.

Sorry, I'm not the seller, but I thought you'd like to keep an eye on it if we can't find it for you elsewhere.

  95. People who have the Frances blouse I really appreciate the idea of the nude bra to wear under! GREAT idea! What bottoms have you worn with your tops? Has anyone worn these tops with shorts? Just wondering.

Does anyone have the Cashmere Martine cardigan? How does it fit? What do you wear it with?

What color San Telmo are all of you getting? I have the Polka Dot and love it soooo much that if people are recommending it I will get another!! LOL.

Finally, for those of you who are looking at the Tulip jacket, I highly recommend the reddish color (can't remember the exact name) it is simply GORGEOUS!!!!! I have worn mine twice and each time, I have had someone stop to tell me how stunning it is. I did NOT see this color online.

  96. To jcrewjunkie:
Yes,I do like Tie-neck blouson sweaters a lot. I always wear cami underneath ( the sweater is sheer and just a bra does not look right): either pink or nude. Several outfits of mine:
    - Tie-neck blouson sweater in Capri pink w/pink cami, bright pink hip-slung belt and striped bermuda shorts ( paired with white/pink flower kitten heel sandals, not J crew:))
-Tie-neck blouson sweater in Papaya w/nude cami, white cropped matchstick jeans and no belt. Pink and gold bangles.
The colors are fresh and tie-neck is feminine and pretty. It makes you look very nice and dressy, but not overly so.

  97. thank you so much webbysuzy! I was searching in the j. crew jewelry section on ebay, and for some reason, the necklace doesn't come up there. But I'm definitely keeping my eye on it now!

meanwhile, I feel like j. crew is out to get me. I went to another local one today (tyson's corner, VA) and it was CLOSED. FOR REMODELING. I was so sad. So I can't shop online because nothing is getting updated, and the store wasn't even there to take over in a pinch. I feel like it's a j. crew conspiracy :(

With all the talk of the red tulip jacket (I think the "j. crew" color was flame), I just wanted to re-mention that I did see 2 a couple of nights ago at the Georgetown b&m. There was definitely one that was a six, and I can't remember the size of the other one. Has anyone checked there?

I really don't know what to do with myself with no j.crew. How much longer until they actually put new stuff on the website - sale OR fall merchandise? Because I'm dying here!

  100. Is it red flame? Now I can stop calling it Strawberry Red for lack of a better color description. LOL. At any rate it looks fabulous with white crop jeans or khaki capris...the color is so versatile that combinations are pretty much endless. I saw one of the sales clerks wearing black pants with it and another one had it paired with dark indigo matchstick jeans. The only color that I saw tons of was the Citron which is beautiful as well but didn't seem to be as popular as the other colors.

  103. I was reading this blog for a while, but this is my first post. I went to my local J.Crew in Towson, MD and purchased a couple of jewelry pieces. All are additional 25% off, but when I tried to get student discount sales told me that I can't get it because I'm getting 25% already. Alexis, I understand that your San Telmo jacket (what a find!) also had 20% and additional 15% discounts. Does it vary from store to store? Can educator or student discount be used in a same purchase with 25% they currently offer?

  105. kater: I did a word search to find and and the exact title of your necklace is "NWT J CREW RARE DOUBLE STRAND GIRAFFE NECKLACE GREY". Looks like s/he is a reseller of J Crew accessories.

  106. Okay, not doing a store search for sale items is crazy! I looked for my bracelet on ebay, and there's only one and I've already been outbid. So, I thought I'd call. The CS told me that it was sold out and they wouldn't be getting anymore. Since it's a sale item, she can't do a search for me. She suggested that I call my local store and have them call several stores to look for it. Seems like the b&m employees have better things to do. Maybe if I was a regular known by name, but I'm not. I could call several stores, but that seems like such a hassle.

Sorry for ranting, just needed to get that off my chest! :)

I'm thinking about getting it to wear around my waist and since I haven't seen it in person, I'm not sure if you'd be able to wear it this way...as opposed to a traditional belt at your hips.

  115. To dawn:
I bought the jeweled critter grosgrain belts in all 4 colors. My waist size is 28-29 and belts did not come as XS, S was the smallest size. I cannot wear them as waist belts as S is too big for my waist. I wear them as hip belts or with low-rise bottoms. Since belts are ribbon-made, I think they can be taken to a shoemaker /seamstress to have an extra hole punched in. If you are M or above, I recommend downsizing. Overall, they are very cute and of good quality and I get a lot of wear from them. Recently, I belted my Fiji Zoey dress with starfish yellow belt ( purchased in store, did not see this particular color on-line) and it looked real nice.

I live in your area. I ranted previously that none of the stores in my vicinity would combine Final Sale discount with student/educators discount. It's either one or another. The stores that I tried are Montgomery Mall, Baltimore Harbor, Towson,Columbia Mall and Chevy Chase. They are all very particular about enforcing this policy.
I hear that a lot of other stores are generous in offering both discounts, but our great Metropolitan DC area stores apparently are greatly opposed to it. If you call CS, you might be able to MAKE them do both, but I can guarantee you next time you ask for it, they will say NO. So, you 'll have to call J Crew CS EVERY time you purchase smth in the store. I , personally, find it a great hassle, so I just take Final Sale discount and that's it. They will, however, apply student/educator d/c with no problem to regular/non-final sale items. Too bad. May be if enough of us complain and demand both discounts, they will eventually yield to the pressure.:)

  117. Alisha, Thank you very much for your kind comment! Actually, I am very glad to know that there is someone I can share how cute those shops (including J.Crew) are. I moved in Carmel two month ago and do love this place like you do!

  118. This post is for the DC crowd, I just found out that there is going to be a new J Crew store in our area in Reston VA in the new South of Market development. It looks like it will open soon (I've seen postings for employment in early June). I know that doesn't help now but between a new store in Reston & Tyson's opening back up... we'll be back in business soon :)

  119. It is great we all share size and fit info. but don't fret Tired Memphian:) I am a 34B/36 A and I guess things fit us all differently for different reasons...I wear a 10 in blazers and the ruffle gayle trench (with no extra fabric room for me). I also wear a medium in tops and in sleeveless an 8. I ordered the seaglass piper tank in my 8 and someone else said it was huge for them in their regular size...but I'm sure I'll be fine.....I have 6 years of JCrew tops in my closet and nothing is smaller than an 8:)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Got an email from JCrew stating that they do not know when packages will ship and that they cannot say when I package will arrive b/c they can't get accurate tracking numbers with their new system-- still updating I assume. I am sorry but that is just not acceptable to me for a company like JCrew. I have 3 birthday gifts I need to buy and will have to take that shopping else where. Really poor:(

  121. I forgot to add that I own the Eliza and Suzzanah cami's as well...I usually wear an 8 but found the 8 in the Eliza too snug around the bust (I am a 34B/36A)The Suzzanah in the 8 fit fine. So I went with my usual 8 in the Piper tank. I also own the purple floral cami from fall/winter 2007. It had a white background. I think it may have been part of the JCrew collection. I got an 8 in it as well...my regular size.

Whoever suggested layering if it is a bit big/loose...great idea:) I am planning on doing that if need be with the Piper...or getting it tailored if needed.

  122. Aly: I am also a size 10, and I recently bought the sea glass tank in-store in a 6. The 6 was perfect for me when I tried it on. I also tried the solid in a 6, and it was definitely smaller. The arm holes in particular were painfully small. I didn't try any other sizes in the solid because I was in love with the sea glass print.

  123. Hi ladies! I went to my local JC yesterday (Albany, NY) and got some great pieces!

    1. Solid Kayla blouse (97720) in Geranium - adorable cut/color, true to size, maybe a teeny bit roomy in the shoulders. I tried a size down but then the shoulders were a bit snug. Anyway, this is very sheer (think we talked about this before) but I wear most of my JC tops over a tank anyway, it seems. On sale for $39.99 - 25% - 10% student discount (which they didn’t have any issue applying, they asked me if I was a student while I was checking out!)

    2. Solid Piper tank (94163) in Navy - I found this to be true to size as well, tried a size smaller just for comparison, and there wasn’t enough “armpit room”. Gorgeous top - I can see wearing this with my white Addison pants. Interesting - the ones on the site have pockets but this one doesn’t seem to (neither did the grey one I also tried on) - kind of like how the first wave of Elizabeth halters had the pockets but subsequent versions did not. What exactly would I put in those pockets, anyway? On sale for $59.99 - 25% - student discount.

    3. Solid Chelsea shirt (93628) in White - girls, I love this shirt! It is a popover style and seemed true to size. I got an XS, which still has a tiny bit of room to spare… it’s definitely not a very fitted top. Funny, when I put it on I thought, “No!”, but then I rolled up the sleeves like the model on jcrew.com, and then thought, “YES!” It’s a great casual shirt that could easily be worn into fall under a sweater or cardigan. For now, I’ll probably pair it with some navy café capris or my dark chambray swing skirt. $39.99 - 25% - 10% student discount.

    4. Featherweight cotton femme tank (94009) in Kelly Green - I have been wanting to get something in this color all summer and grabbed this… just your basic JC knit top, cute, fitted top, flowy bottom. I found this to be true to size as well. $19.99 - 25% - 10% student discount.

    5. Sunwashed cotton swing skirt (96201) in Black - I have no idea how JC sells any knit skirts/dresses, given the lighting in their dressing room! I tried this on in soft graphite, but you could see every lump and bump - eeek! I tried sizing up to an S but it looked huge! I had better luck with the black, but think a lot of it had to do with the choice of underwear/lighting in the dressing room. It really helps to get the stuff home and look at it with other clothes, etc. It’s not like we walk around under awful florescent lighting all day (or else no retail place would sell clothes)! I may go back for the soft graphite skirt, but will have to be wearing my best underwear to try it on! $39.99 - 25% - 10% student discount.

And that’s that! I haven’t shopped .com since a week before “the change” and as of right now don’t intend to go back. I can’t find anything on there anyway. My store was pretty picked over, but they had a lot of Waverly jackets, Cynthia dresses, Lilah dresses, and pique polo shirts (TONS of these). They also had one of there registers “crash” trying to find an order for a customer that was trying to do a return, so they were only working off of one register and seemed pretty frazzled.

Last note: I went to Old Navy to check out the high-waisted skirt, but unfortunately it did not work out for me at all - the pleats just “fell weird” on me, and it was a little too short for the look I wanted. HOWEVER - I did pick up this fuschia chiffon ruffle dress that is so similar to the JC Darla shift I’ve been lusting after all summer - but it is better because it was all silk chiffon and had cute little flutter sleeves, not that smocking like the Darla had, which is all cotton anyway and kind of looks like you’re wearing a sack. Wow, Old Navy - I haven’t been there in a long time, and their stuff overall is still not THAT great, but this dress was awesome! I just wore it to a party and got so many compliments! It was $34.50 (the Darla just went on sale for $59.99, I think).

So that’s the word - for now! ;)

  124. olga: You are so sweet! :) I hope the cami works out for you!

silver_lining: It sounds like you found some great deals! Sorry the Old Navy skirt didn't work out for you...I actually went back yesterday to get the Black as well...I really like the skirt. I purchased the 4 instead of the 6, and also exchanged the Gray for a size 4. I think that with the styling of the skirt, the shorter length actually looks better, falling just above the knee. I was also surprised with some of the other items they had. I was able to pick up a couple of tanks for $3.50, so that wasn't bad at all. ;)

tired memphian: If you normally wear a 6 in tops, then the Babydoll top will probably be just fine. I only size up due to my broad shoulders, and then a 6 is just swimming on me through the bust and waist, and that is why the medium was too big on me. Let us know how it works out! :)

  125. I was this close to going in yesterday, but I od'd last weekend with their extra 25% off sale merchandise. I thought it best to give my cc a holiday.

  126. Silver lining:
I totally know what you mean about the lighting in the Jcrew dressing rooms! I only went back to buy the tie waist knit dress (and the boat neck dress that just went on sale) because the ladies on this board had some suggestions about lining it, or wearing spanx etc. As much as I loved the dress, I would have passed it right by.

Also, I find Old Navy the same way..... Most of it isn't the greatest, but there is always *one or two* things each season that are so fabulous and just the best buys! It's worth taking a peek in there every so often to see when a goodie is going to pop up. I'm a teacher, so I worried that the high waisted skirt would be a little shorter than I would like for work, but for some reason, because of the styling it comes off as "sweet" and not vampy in the least. Sorry the pleating didn't work for you though. Maybe the Belle will go on sale soon! Mine shipped today---I am anxious to see it on.

    ReplyDelete
  127. josie: I completely agree about the styling of the skirt being "sweet", and that is why I actually exchanged for the smaller size, even though it is a little shorter than I normally wear. It doesn't look at all inappropriate for my age, and is not "mini" by any means...just really cute...the pleating totally works for me, and I love how the fit accentuates my waist. :) I actually plan to wear it casually with a tank or tee and a pair of flat sandals, too.

  128. Ugh, the J.Crew website is a mess this morning! It is taking forever to load, if it loads at all. And, when I clicked on Women, the categories of clothing that came up were all the Men's categories sportcoats, vests, ties, boxers, etc. Mmmm, no - thanks for playing! The search function still isn't working consistently, so I doubt I'll have much luck tracking down anything I want online today!

I have a couple of questions for you:

    1. Is this a Summer Wedding?

    2. Is it Daytime or Evening?

I am afraid a dark shoe will be too much for this dress, especially if it is a Summer Daytime wedding, but you may be able to wear a darker shoe if it is in the evening. However, the dress seems so light and delicate, that a dark shoe may be just too heavy. I personally like the Pewter shoe that is also shown...if you don't like the reptile print, perhaps you could find a different shoe without a print, but in Pewter. A Patent Leather shoe would also be pretty, similar to what the model is wearing in the picture, though I don't think I would go with the yellow like she has on. I would personally suggest keeping your shoe light and feminine. :)

  130. Hey Alexis

Happy 4th of July weekend! Just checked the J.Crew website and guess what? Down again!

    ReplyDelete
  131. LLK: After looking at the pic of the J.Crew model...I realized that her shoes are not just completely yellow, but have Metallic Silver on them, as well...sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  132. It's an evening wedding. I think that the lighter shoe would be too matchy matchy. I actually like the darker grey shoe. Most people would probably wear black with it so I guess the darker grey is a better alternative. The wedding is outside so I don't think I want to go light becausee of dirt. I actually hate the shoes that they show with the dress. It makes it too business like because they are mary janes.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Oh, also. This is the second shoe that I listed in the purple. Do you like these?

  136. LLK: Since it's an evening wedding, you should be able to carry off the darker shoe successfully, but I definitely would not wear black shoes with the dress. I personally like the tonal look (that can be referred to as the "matchy matchy"), as I believe it gives a long, continuous line to the silouhette. However, if you prefer the darker gray shoes, I think they are very pretty, and the purple ones in your other post are just beautiful, as well. Do you have the option to purchase both to try, and then return the pair you don't wear? That would give you the best opportunity to see which you like the best. Endless.com is really great when it comes to returns, too. :)

Btw...the Matilda dress if beautiful! :)

  137. Alexis: I saw you went to the promenade shops... I always go to the west farms mall during the school year because my boyfriend is in law school there. I have heard the Promenade store is bigger, is it worth the trip? Of course they do know me at west farms... nothing like that.

This weekend we went to the New cannan store. the women's sale section was huge... but they had nothing for men. My poor bf has wanted a pair of yellow shorts for so long and can't find any.

Yesterday we were up in the berkshires and even stopped @ the outlets on the way home (disappointing quality and selection for both of us).

I did wear all my planned J Crew clothes! I must say I did look the perfect part for every event. And I saw Carol King play with James Taylor!

I saw someone wanted a post on the jeans sizes... I think they are so different for every person. The cropped matchstick do run a size bigger. But I think the best way is to go to the store and try them!!! Or order two sizes and return one... Jeans are the hardest thing to figure out if you arent the one wearing them.

    ReplyDelete
  138. So I assume you all buy J Crew clothes for you men, or if you are a man then for the women in your lives. Alexis: a post on what we buy our men would be very cool. Plus my BFs birthday is coming up (end of next month) and I think I am already getting him the Cotton-cashmere rugby jersey and the Varsity patchwork Cambridge tie. Last year I got him the madras shorts (he still wears them all the time) and a coach wallet. This year though is a big landmark birthday... So I want to do something cute. I was thinking about getting him 25 argyle sock (one extra in case he loses one...) Ideas???

Can anyone give advice on sizing for the Tulip Jacket? CS doesn't have shoulder measurements, and I don't know whether I would take a 4 or a 6. HELP!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. hi ffm!: i tried the tulip jacket in flame a few weeks ago. i wear a size 0 and it felt a little big on me...i guess this one might be running a little big. usually jcrew jackets in size 0 fit me perfectly :)

    ReplyDelete
  143. hi again ffm: to be more specific, the tulip jacket felt big in my shoulders/chest...hope this helps! :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. FFM: I am a 0/2 in most J Crew jackets (sometimes a 2P) and my size 0 fits perfectly. I do not have broad shoulders, but if I did I would only size up one size. I tried on the 4P and it was really way to roomy. The 2P would have been better, but they didn't have it in the color I wanted (flame). Again, let me reiterate that this color is FABULOUS. I just love it!

    jcrewjunkie :)

    ReplyDelete
  145. ccbmum and jcrewjunkie: Thank you both SO much! I keep thinking I should get the 4...I tried on the Linen/Cotton Casa Rosa in the 4 and the shoulders fit well, except the waist was too big. Fortunately, it doesn't appear as if that will matter in the Tulip. ;)

OK...so is it possible for one of you to measure the shoulders on the 0 for me? I have noticed that J.Crew tends to go up by about .25 inch per size, so that would give me a closer estimate on the 4 and 6. THANK YOU!!!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  146. ccbmum: Sorry, I just realized you said you tried it own...not that you own it.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Vivian-earlier in the year, I wore my white Frances blouse (nude bra or white perfect fit tank) with gray favorite fit chinos, but it's too hot now.

FFM- I would probably go a size down in the tulip jacket. They had a 2 (citron) at the store, and it seemed big for me. I have a paper popin ruffle trench in a 2 reg that fits perfectly, and a san telmo in a 2 reg, if that helps.

I went to my JCrew store yesterday and the sale section was very picked over--lots of variety, but hit/miss sizes except for the staples (tees, polos). The stock/prices similar to those posted by others, although they did not have any of the cute belts in stock (the whole reason I made the trek). I did pick up a sand dollar charm bracelet (79). I tried on the scroll bracelet (59) and also the starfish charm bracelet (59). Honestly, they were all really big, but I fell in love with the sand dollars and couldn't pass it up with the add'tl 25% off.

Ladies, any suggestions on what to wear? My cousin's wedding is in Manhattan (sadly, I have never been :( )--a 3:30 church service/6:30 reception in mid-November. I'm struggling with options b/c out here things are so much more casual. Plus I'm afraid by then it will be cold for a CA girl like me.

    ReplyDelete
  148. FFM: here are the measurments for a size 0 Tulip jacket:

    top to bottom: 22"

    shoulder to shoulder: 14.5"

    armpit to armpit: 17.5"

    sleeve length: 17"

It is VERY roomy in the shoulder area and I really do feel that even with broad shoulders a 4 would be too large. I would try a 2 if I were you since the 0 is roomy in the shoulder area on me. Just my opinion.

    jcrewjunkie :)

  150. Fabulousfloridamommy: I would go one size down on the tulip jacket. I bought the lime color in a 0 and will be able to pull of off; however,I look forward to receiving the one I order in navy in P0. I think it would fit perfectly.
The red color is nice but doesn't look good on me. :)

    Pastille dress

    Slub Cotton Ball Trim cami

    Slub Cotton Beach Weekend dress

Any of the Fiji print items (I was looking at the shorts, but there were other items as well).

Thanks for any advice pros/cons that you can give me on the above!!

amethyst and newyork0311: Thank you both for the sizing tip, as well! :)

  153. Has anyone seen the tulip jackets in-store in any colors besides flame and citron? I feel like I've been to every store in the greater Boston area and have only seen those colors. I'm tempted to buy it online in navy, but it costs less than half as much in-store...

    ReplyDelete
  154. jcrewjunkie:

Slub Cotton Ball Trim cami: I have this in the blue and I love it! Thinking of ordering a white one also. Really pretty. It has a nice fit at the top & then full and flowy.

Slub Cotton Beach Weekend dress: I tried this on last weekend. I really liked it except for the pockets. They fell right at my hips (I am a 4/6 and tried on a Small) and poked out kind of funny on me... just didn't look right - so I did not get this one. The cut just looked funny around the hip area b/c of the placement of the pockets.

... and I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Lilah dress?? Thinking of ordering in the soft azalea. They didn't have any at my store to look at... thanks :o)

    ReplyDelete
  155. Hi Vivian- I have to say that I found the fit of the san Telmo in size 0 & size 2 to be practically the same. (I mean the size 0 is a wee bit smaller in the shoulders, but barely noticeable really). I also found that the Solid and Polka Dot San Telmo were the same exact coat in shape.

My husband and I both agree, that the Polka Dot is prettier of the two jackets (solid vs polka dot), but both are quite lovely at the end of the day! :)

Anonymous at 5:21PM (july 5): I was able to receive the San Telmo with the 25% off sale discount and the educator's discount of 15% off. Unfortunately, the policy of applying both discounts is not universal in all J.Crew stores. I am not sure why this is the case either, but I personally think that it should be universal. :)

Blumre: I like the Promenada shops because my husband and I like a restaurant that is there (Burton's Grill). So we go for a bit of shopping and lunch, and then go to the bookstore at the mall nearby. I find the J.crew there is nice, but not as big as the one on the other side of Hartford (the Westfarm's Mall with the Nordstroms). :)

Also, I have been to the J.Crew outlet in the Birkshires and was sorely disappointed too! :)

I will think it is a good idea to create another post about what we get for our men at J.Crew.:) As FabulousFloridaMommy pointed out, we did have a post awhile back, but I think it would be great to have one on future purchases! :)

  158. shoppinginseattle:
I tried on the lilah dress a few days ago, and I think it was definitely running big. I typically wear a large, but would have gotten a medium. BUT I didn't like the fit at all in general. The waist tie on it isn't moveable as it's sewn on the dress, and on me, it was so high, it looked empire. This happens for me with some j.crew dresses though (fontana wrap was another one) - so it might just be my proportions with j.crew.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Anon @1:22: Just call your order into J.Crew Customer Service, and tell them that the J.Crew at Columbus Circle in New York is selling them for $49.99 + 25% extra off, and you would like them to honor that price. Ask them to call the store to verify if they need to...I was considering purchasing the Navy online, and that is what I had planned to do. NewYork0311 has seen them at the Columbus Circle store and the South Street Seaport store for that price. Good Luck, and let us know how it works out! :)

    ReplyDelete
  160. Hi All...quick question...if you call a store in another state to make a purchase, are you taxed by their rate or your own? If I call to New York to purchase the Tulip Jacket, it is a higher tax rate than Florida, so which will I have to pay?

Alexis...have you seen any of the Tulip Jackets in your store?

    ReplyDelete
  161. j crew junkie: I have the fiji floral cardigan and I just love it! Although I will definitely have to wear it with a neutral pant. I have some olive green pants, but the greens are just different enough that it doesn't work. And while I could wear it with my yellow J Crew pants, that's too much for me! :) I fell in love with the print when I saw it and was so happy when it went on sale.

  162. OK FFM, which Born sandals did you get now? I'm sure that I will want them as they ARE like walking on pillows!!!

shoppinginseattle: thanks so much for the info. ALSO...I have the Lilah dress in Regal Purple and here is what I did to make it fit the way I wanted...I washed in hot and dried on high heat!! After that the fit was perfect. I wore it to a cookout with silver flat sandals (from Aeropostale...on sale now for $5.99) and everyone really liked it (so much so that I am thinking of getting it in soft azalea as well!) I DO NOT suggest that the "hot water trick" works for everyone, but it always has for me!

    ReplyDelete
  171. FFM & Anon@1:22: Just to clarify, Columbus circle had the tulip jacket but again only in citron & red. No navy. I wonder if they would honor the price and discount in this case? (I ordered my tulip jacket in navy online @$89.99 + 15% educator discount.)
Also, the sales tax has to do with where the item is shipped to, isn't it?

  172. My store has the more navy ones, but very few fresh strawberry and citron. I guess it's because people like the brighter colors here!

  173. I also love the Matilda dress. I did order it online and it already shipped for free! It should be here on Tuesday. The website worked well when I bought it. My husband LOVED the dress. I think it is very unique! I had to order a size 0, always call to find out the measurements. The bust on the 0 went up to a 34.5 which was surprising. Hopefully I will pick the right shoe!

When you call CS, tell them that the Columbus Circle store has them for $49.99 + 25%, and you would like them to honor that price (plus your educator discount). Other people who are interested in an item that's not available in stores but available online should always tell the store to order it. I was offered to do so and told that I would be honor the price plus the 25 % discount. It was for the candance jacket in blue. I ended up finding it at another store, so didn't bother. THe only thing I was told was that since these are sales items, they were not able to ship it for free. Wasn't too happy when I heard that. :(, but glad I found what I wanted at a different location.

  179. Sometimes the store will allow you to return the item that is marked final sale, if you change your mind. They seem to have great cs whenever I go in, and I've always found them to be so understanding that citron in the store may not look as good as citron at home! :)

  180. Jcrew#1fan: Hi! Did you say your store had the tulip jackets in navy blue? Exactly which location is it? I might need it when I call CS! Thanks!

  183. Amethyst (sp?) - I think something in a jewel tone would be lovely. Like a royal purple or royal blue. Go with heels. For weddings I love the strapless silk chiffon j crew styles. I think the cotton cady can be too casual. Also I think a slik would look lovely in the fall. Will you be doing anything else in NYC?

Alexis: Hmm I will have to check the promendade out. I wont be back up in west hartford until the fall but we will hav eto check it out.

Melanie: a landmark birthday... or the one I am talking about is 25... he will be 25 in August (finally he can stop teasing me about being 25... I am 5 months older). haha

I saw the short sleeve caroline jacket in the store but they only had it in a yellow and yellow is not my color. I called at the red phone and they are all out of navy and they refused to do a find it now :(... has anyone seen it in a small navy?

  184. Aly,
Glad I could help with the fit on the Piper tops. I was curious as well. Congrats on your weightloss....I too wish I could have one area of my body done by a plastic surgeon but that is just a long shot dream:) Welcome to JCrew:) I have been a fan for 6 1/2 years:)

  185. hi aly,
i just read your story...thanks for sharing and congrats on your weight loss :) i think that jcrew is perfect for 39 year olds...and i happen to be one myself (and a mom too) :). i have been a jcrew fan since highschool...they used to be super extremely preppy back then but nowdays they have definitely softened things up for women...i like to call it "preppy chic". :) they have definitely become more fabulous over the years. i see women of all ages wearing jcrew...

i agree with you about BR...they have definitely gotten too stuffy for me the last few years...i used to really like them too (but never as much as jcrew)...

  186. aly: I echo what ccbmum said...thanks for sharing your story and congrats on your weightloss...that is a major undertaking, and you should really be proud! :) I know it is hard...I gained 75 pounds with my first child, and 50 pounds each with the last 3, so I am no stranger to the battle of weightloss. :)

On another note...there are many of us 30 something mom's that love J.Crew on this blog...I have mentioned before how I wish that J.Crew would put some "older" (30-40yr.old)women in their catalogs, as I believe there are alot of us out here who DO love J.Crew, and would love to see our age group represented. I personally believe that just because you become a mom and a 30 something doesn't mean you are required to become frumpy, and J.Crew clothing really has something for us all, at this point. :) Welcome aboard...this is a FANTASTIC community, Alexis is AMAZING, and the other women are just FABULOUS, as well (a few guys, too)! ;)

  187. blumre: do you mean the Corinne jacket? Short sleeves that came in yellow or navy? I just got the navy one, and Alexis has it as well (she said that she wear an eyelet cami under it, but I can't remember which one). There are several Corinne jackets on Ebay (at least when I checked a few days ago there were). ALSO, what did you wear with your Lux Hoodie this weekend? I have that hoodie as well and am looking for suggestions. THANKS!!

  188. jcrewjunkie: When did you get your Born Tiki Sandals? Did you order them when you got the Black Isola Sandals? I am really excited about the Welly's...I've been wanting them for a long time, and now they are on the way! YAY!!! :)

  189. FFM: Thank you so much for your advice! I was able to get the store price for my tulip jacket from my order from two Fridays ago (But it is expected to arrive this coming week)! Imagine that when I ordered it, it was at the regular $148.I just thought I wanted to try it on and if I didn't like it, I would return it. I'm so happy it turned out to be such a good deal I'll keep it now. THANK YOU!

I think the CS they offer is great and excellent. They are soooo helpful and willing to make customers happy. Everyone just remember if the item is not available in the store, have them help you order it from the red phones!

Thank you Alexis for setting up this blog. I've saved so much money thank to it!

  190. FFM: Yes, I got them when I ordered the Isolas in black. Again, I just want to say that the color is so versatile and looks sooo good with so many things. A BIG thank you for telling me about Born. My feet echo the sentiments. :)

Has anyone gotten the Split-V Cotton Popover sweater? The one with the pockets? I have on that I am debating on returning. Do the pockets stick out funny when the sweater is on? Maybe it is just where it falls on my hip that makes it look that way. Otherwise it is so comfortable, and I love the sour lemon color.

  191. newyork0311: I'm so glad it worked out for you! That is a TREMENDOUS savings...congratulations! :)

    jcrewjunkie: No problem! :)

  192. JCrewjunkie: Yea I think I meant the corine jacket. Thanks. i would rather not do ebay... I dont want it thattttt much but if i can get if for less... nothing wrong with that. So if anyone sees the Small in Navy give a shout my way.

Also with my luxe hoodie (my white one) I wore a white bra tank from gap with my cropped matchstick jeans and navy and white jcrew beaded flipflops that are about 4 years old. It was just to go to tanglewood so I didnt want to wear anything that couldn't be washed and wouldn't keep me warm.

  193. Blumre-thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. We'll be out for a few days, so I definitely want to fit in some shopping and sight seeing :)

I forgot to mention on the previous post that the store also had some matchstick cords in. I don't own any matchsticks--curious how to wear them (heels or flats), and what makes "the look" work?

  195. Amethyst:

I think the matchstick looks good with flats if you are super skinny... but the better bet is with a mid heel (which will also dress it up a bit)... dont go with too high a heel or you run the rick of looking like you stepped out of 1985.

Tell us where you plan on going in NYC and we can advise on what to wear. If you catch a show the theater is much more casual than it used to be. I see some people in jeans but I think that is tacky. I think a nice pair of black pants (not chino material) and a sweater normally looks nice.

  196. Well I am going to be in NYC in a few weeks and I want to go to a J Crew store that isn't packed with tourists! LOL.

Aly: Thanks to FFM's suggestion I got several pairs of Born sandals recently (very recently in fact!) and I have found that the Born Caracas looks fabulous with my cropped matchstick jeans. Not too flat and not to high a heel. Also, I just got around to reading your initial post and WOW is all I have to say!! Way to go!! :) Also, I too am a 30+ mom and J Crew clothing is what makes every single day a fun clothing day for me. On occasion, they do have older models in the catalog and those are the ones that I use as my inspiration. BUT, anyone looks stylish and fabulous in J Crew...PERIOD. I look just as nice at my son's ballgames as I do at my husband's business events. I love the way the J Crew always makes you feel "put together" and classy. The UPS man calls me "Mrs. Christmas" because I get sooo many packages each week, but I don't care, I always look great and more importantly I always FEEL great wearing J Crew. Again, welcome to this blog. I am sure that you will love this friendly and fashionable group as much as I do!!!

jcrewjunkie (you will always find my name at the end of my post because I can't get my identity to work!!)

  197. To Anon: The store on 45th and Madison (could be 44th...but I think its 45th) is usually fairly empty and the one in Soho is nice and big without a lot of people in it. AVOID ROCKEFELLAR CENTER... its a zoo unless you hit it at 10 a.m. on a monday and even then in july and august its all tourists... I hate NYC in july and august this city gets taken over by middle America (and not the fashionable ones that buy j crew... I am talking about the ones who wear their gym sneakers around everywhere, the same ones that stick out like a sore thumb in Europe)... But if you stay out of midtown you can generally avoid the craziness.

  198. FFM: Please STOP! I am trying to NOT spend more $!!! Those Born Wellies are NICE! I want a pair too. Let us know how they fit when you get them.

    Have you purchased the
    Born Mystere
? These remind me of a great pair of shoes I had in the late nineties (completely wore out the shoe). BUT, these shoes have a 4" heel. I like the look of these because I can wear them into the fall, just not sure about the height of the heel.

    Or
    Born Korla in color T.Moro
? I have to go...I could go on & on.

    ReplyDelete
  199. Hi rach! I'm so sorry, but it's just so hard NOT to share when you find something FABULOUS, ya know? ;)

I haven't tried the Born Mystere, but they look fabulous! I wouldn't worry too much about the 4 inch heel, as it appears as if almost an inch of it is the platform of the wedge itself (at the front), so that would really make the heel just 3 inches. ;) I just think that Born shoes are so comfortable that you really don't even realize you are wearing that high of a heel, and the Mystere are wedges, which are MUCH easier to walk in than a 4 inch stiletto (I know...I have some, and they only get pulled out on special occasions).

The Born Korla are FAB looking, too! They would perfect for Fall and Winter...decisions, decisions... ;)
