Article on J.Crew Apology

"Thanks!" to Anonymous at 3:42 PM & Naomi who let us know in the post "J.Crew Admits {Some} Mistakes" that Bloomberg.com had an article on J.Crew's Apology. (Click here to see original article). I highlighted text (in dark orange) that I found interesting in read.

J.Crew Sends Apology Letter for `Issues' in Orders (Update2)
By Heather Burke
July 30, 2008

J.Crew Group Inc., the clothing retailer run by former Gap Inc. Chief Executive Officer Millard Drexler, apologized to customers, asking shoppers to excuse problems with Internet and phone orders in the past few weeks.

"We know we've let you down,'' Drexler, 63, and President Tracy Gardner said
in the apology sent to customers by e-mail today and posted on the Internet site. J.Crew is making "enhancements'' to its site and call center and "unfortunately, encountered some bumps along the way,'' they wrote. "We've made some mistakes (too many in our mind),'' the executives wrote in the statement. "Please bear with us as we work through these issues.''

The retailer's Web site wasn't accessible as of 1:47 p.m. New York time and showed a "Be back soon'' note. As of 2:30 p.m., the site worked and had the apology note on the home page.

J.Crew, a men's and women's clothing retailer known for khaki shorts, chinos and cashmere sweaters, fell $1.11, or 3.7 percent, to $28.98 as of 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock has dropped 40 percent this year through today.

In the first quarter, Internet and catalog sales comprised 30 percent, or $100.9 million, of New York-based J.Crew's total revenue.

A recent upgrade to search and zoom functions online has caused some issues when shoppers place orders, J.Crew spokeswoman Margot Fooshee said today in an e-mail without elaborating. "In our eyes, any inconvenience to our customers is unacceptable,'' she said.

"As a result, we proactively wanted to address them through an e-mail and on our home page, letting them know that they might experience some delays,'' Fooshee said, adding that shoppers were notified the company was trying to fix the problems immediately.

I am pleased to see that J.Crew put this notice on their website. However, I have a few issues with what Ms. Fooshee had to say. First, I don't think the website/system fiasco was in direct rela
tionship to the new "search and zoom functions". I seriously doubt that is what is causing ghost orders, false charges, delayed shipping, etc. But, I could be wrong. ;) Second, I don't agree with the terms "proactive" and "immediately" used in her quote. ("Proactive" & "immediately" would have been appropriate actions a month ago.) Third, the quote "any inconvenience to our customers is unacceptable" bothers me- considering customers were inconvenienced for over a month, (without any apology notice before).

...I realize I come across a bit harsh on the Crew. I love them, I really do! However, I want J.Crew to be completely
upfront and honest about the situation. I think we would all be more understanding of the situation if they let us know what was going on from the beginning. I would even be understanding if J.Crew decided to shut down their website completely in order to fix it properly, (instead of this half-working site we have now.) :)

What do you think of the articles and J.Crew's comments in the article? What do you think of the situation?

J.Crew Apologizes For Bad Website, But That's All They Do"
A dozen readers (and probably a couple of PR flacks) must have forwarded us J.Crew's email today, in which the CEO and president of the company extend a mutual apology for the non-workingness of their "enhanced" website and call center. Oddly, the email simply asks customers to "bear with us" but doesn't offer any discount or sale. Well, maybe they figured driving more traffic to a broken site would only make things worse.

  1. FYI for jcrew cardholders... i had a massive positive balance on my account due to all the returns i made recently, and i told them i was not planning to shop there anymore in the near future due to all the issues. they are sending me a refund check now! they responded to my email within a couple hours. i know the credit card people are separate CS from jcrew, but it was nice. so, this may be common knowledge already, but i had no idea a credit card would do that!

  2. Dear Alexis

I'm not an IT specialist but the problems seem to stem from a backend snafu between their new online ordering system and their order fulfillment system/inventory tracking system. At any rate, it's hard to believe that their IT team was not able to anticipate this before the site went live. Heads must be rolling in the IT department. Something else: instead of driving away their loyal customers and losing sales, why don't they just bring the old site back, even if in redux version, while they are dealing with the issues? My guess is that they don't bring it back because they can't, there must some technical impediment. They must be incurring heavy financial losses because of this mayhem, in expedited shipping charges, hiring of temporary CS representatives, not only loss of goodwill and credibility.

  3. Melissa: Congrats on the refund check! Hopefully it comes quickly. :)

Enigmatic: I agree with you that the issue with their website stems from their inventory system, and not the "search and zoom function". ;)

I also agree with you that they should temporarily use the old site- if they could- but like you said probably cannot.

What I don't understand is the roll out of this new system. Many e-commerce sites test the new system by running it simultaneously with the old system to make sure it works properly. I wonder why J.Crew didn't test it properly before hand.

  4. alexis: I agree with you and others that have said to just shut the website down until it is truly working properly. I also think they were too quick to remove all of the Summer merchandise from the stores...why in the WORLD would they send it back to a distribution center that can't handle the shipments it has now? They should have left all of the Summer stuff at the stores, shut the website down, and then had the 50% off in-store like is supposed to happen this weekend. It wouldn't be great for customers who don't have a store near them to go to, but then neither is ordering something online just to have it not arrive at all, or be charged 2 or 3 times for the same item. Plus, they could send online only customers a coupon code to use after the site is working properly, or else compensate them with a Gift Card, since they wouldn't be able to get to the stores for the sales.

I also agree they should have been up front about everything from the beginning...a little humility goes along way when it comes to forgiveness. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  5. FabulousFloridaMommy: You raised an excellent point about the store returns of summer items. J.Crew should have let the stores hold onto the merchandise because (1) it is still summer, so they can sell it, and (2) they can't even manage the inventory they have, why add more to it.

It's too bad this is happening to such a wonderful store- but I think many of their issues could have been forgiven if they explained (with a consistent story too) what was going on. I just feel like every Aficionada hears a different "take" on what is going on with their system- all of which makes me nervous to place any orders with them.

On a side note: I hope you have a fabulous solo trip to the Crew this weekend, FFM! :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Alexis: I am so excited about my shopping trip! I would like to try to make it to the Factory store, as well, but I'll have to see how much time I have. Just shopping at the regular store can take hours, especially when actually trying the clothing on! ;) I want my Gift Card "money" to stretch as far as possible, too, and that will be more difficult to do without good sale merchandise at the store...oh how I wish they wouldn't have sent it all back!

    ReplyDelete
  7. i've been trying the extra20 code the last couple days just to see, but it hasn't worked for me... anyone still getting it to work?

    ReplyDelete
  8. FFM: Is there anything specific that you will be looking for this weekend? Lucky you to get to shop alone! Have FUN!! :)

No apology via email or on the homepage of the website is going to quell the frustration that I feel with J Crew at this moment. After a month there are STILL pictures that don't load, items shown on the sale pages that AREN'T on sale, items shown on the sale pages that aren't even available...the list (and the frustration) goes on and on.

  9. UPS lost my polka dot san telmo! It was supposed to have been delivered on Tuesday per the UPS site, but it's been hanging out in Rhode Island all week and now officially counts as lost in their mind. Hold time with Jcrew CS to have them put in a tracer was not totally unreasonable (under 10 mins), but... grr.

I actually get a JCrew sale order to go through and ship with a valid tracking number and look what happens!

    ReplyDelete
  10. FFM and Alexis: I know that you both have praised the GAP Essential jeans is past posts. How do they run sizewise? If I wear a 26 in J Crew denim then what would you suggest that I order in GAP denim? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I placed a couple of orders for both full price items and sake items on the website, against my better judgment, but I thought whatever, at least I know what I am getting into. I emailed CS for them to apply my student discount, and didn't expect to hear from them for quite some time. To my surprise, they responded within a few hours and took care of everything. I thought that maybe J.Crew was actually taking care of business, FINALLY.

Then I got an email telling me my gift cards, which were issued to me as a result of this whole web catastrophe, were canceled. So I emailed CS again and asked why my gift cards were canceled and when I could expect them to be reissued. I sent that email before I took the bar exam, and have yet to get a response.

    J.Crew, are you for real?!

    ReplyDelete
  12. haha "sake items" should be "sale items". ALthough at this point I could use some sake to help me deal with J.Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  13. jcrewjunkie: Yes! I am looking for the Andrea Jacket, the Hammered Silk Tanks, Tartine Cardigans, and the Dream Ruffle Herringbone Cardigan, as well. My store doesn't always get everything and didn't have the Andrea when I was in last Wednesday...I sure hope they have it now, as I don't want to have to order it via the red phone (aka distribution center). I'll share what I get once I'm home. :)

Btw: I answered your GAP jeans question yesterday:

"jcrewjunkie: According to the GAP and J.Crew sizing charts...one should go up a size when purchasing GAP...HOWEVER, I personally wear a 4 in both J.Crew AND GAP pants, so I would say just get a GAP size 2. You COULD buy a 2 and a 4, since it's one price shipping and FREE returns...there is really nothing to risk. :)

BTW...let me know if you decide to get the Coach bag...also, it is Vachetta Leather, so it is not as "soft and supple" as the normal Coach leather, but the bag is beautiful, in my opinion. :)"

    ReplyDelete
  14. Uh oh ... I just went to do a fake checkout to see if EXTRA20 was still working, and I got "JSP_EXECUTION_FAILED", leading me to believe that online checkout is down. So much for being proactive!

Anyway, I'm dying to order a Kelly jacket in bright flame, but I feel like I need to wait it out and see if any fabulous sale codes come up anytime soon ... guess I'll be waiting a while :(

    ReplyDelete
  15. michelle: Don't give up hope on the Gift Cards...mine showed as cancelled, too, and I still received them. I think that's all just another "glitch" in the system. You can also ask that they "load" your money, if you have an existing card already at your house...they did it for me a couple of days ago. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. A: That is AWFUL! I can't believe they lost that wonderful jacket!!! :( That beyond sucks.

JCrewJunkie: I do really like Gap Jeans. :) I find that I am a same size in Gap as I am in J.Crew (which is a 6 with both retail companies). I would suggest ordering the same size you get at J.Crew with Gap jeans. :)

Michelle: Welcome back from the bar exam- I hope you did well!!! :) Also, I can't believe they cancelled your gift cards- that is outrageous on their part. :(

    ReplyDelete
  17. I got an order yesterday that looked as if I was charged 477 for two Jackies and two shells! I called CS and talked to Donelle, who was wonderful by the way, and she explained that the total on the invoice was what was approved to charge to my card - that in reality I was only charged for the items that shipped. Not the items that were partial shipped (two pants and a skirt, which she promptly reordered for me and gave me free shipping). Not sure if this explanation holds water (never was like this before) but I was satisfied.

  18. Looks like J.Crew has made it onto Consumerist again ...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lauren: Thanks for the Consumerist link. I updated this post with that info. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. unrelated, but I've noticed a few new items trickling onto the website: ruffled jersey seaside dress (saw this in-store in dark slate; it's cute and could probably carry over into fall with a shirt underneath and boots); simone jacket (listed with shirts in the new arrivals section?), some of thsirts look new... maybe I just haven't noticed these before? I don't remember seeing the ruffle dress, though, because I looked for it online after I saw it in-store.

    ReplyDelete
  21. FFM: I am sorry that I missed your answer yesterday. I am ordering the jeans now in size 2. Thanks to both you and Alexis for your help with sizing. :)

Also, I did purchase the Coach bag yesterday and am very excited to receive it! I had a Coach Scribble a few years ago and absolutely loved it, however, one of the boys spilled an entire grape juice in/on it and that was the end of my bag. Grrr.

I can't wait to see what you come home with after your shopping trip to J Crew. You seem to have a real knack for getting the most "bang for your buck"!! Good luck!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. seaside dress is not offered in grey online. but they definitely only had it in black and grey in the KOP store. Think I might go back and get it... I keep finding things I want now, I can't imagine what it's going to be like in September when more fall stuff comes flooding in!

    ReplyDelete
  23. FFM: I agree with you 7:11 comment 100%

BTW you people are all up way too early for my blood. I cant believe that there were already 4 new posts by 8:30 a.m. Alexis you are a blogging superstar!

    ReplyDelete
  24. OK, I just had the most wonderful checkout experience with GAP. It was fast, easy, and didn't leave me with heartburn!! Plus, shipping was only $7.00. Yippeeee!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great - now the website no longer recognizes my account info. When I type in my e-mail address (which I've done very carefully with no typos) it says "e-mail address is not recognized". Has this happened to anyone else? Not that I'm planning to ever order online there again....

    ReplyDelete
  26. oh no! The paintbrush floral belle skirt is gone! Already!

well, on the upside, the watercolor rosette tank in cognac is showing up now...

    ReplyDelete
  27. sally: was the Watercolor Rosette tank available in the store when you were there?

    ReplyDelete
  28. layla: I had this happen to me about two weeks ago. I called CS and they said that I had to go back to square one and set up my account again. I was so totally NOT thrilled by this. I haven't had any problems since. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  29. jcrewjunkie - thanks for the info. There's no way I'm calling CS back ever again! I guess my business is just lost to them. I've spent at least 3-4 hours in the last few weeks trying to get my credit card sorted out, gift card uncancelled, etc. My time is worth a lot more than the $100 gift card I (finally) received. Sorry for the rant, I guess this is the last straw for me!

    ReplyDelete
  30. layla: the same thing happened to me last month, so I reset my password, and was able to get in again...can't remember now if I had to set up everything all over again, though. You might give it a try. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. FFM - I tried resetting my password but it didn't work....:(

    ReplyDelete
  32. layla: Did you try redoing everything? I totally agree that this is outrageous and most certainly it is frustrating. When I tried resetting my password it still didn't work, but when I redid everything then it did. I am sorry that you are having to deal with this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. layla: I just remembered that I also had to put in a totally NEW password because they said that mine wasn't long enough to be recognized (although it certainly was long enough last year when I spent nearly 20k at J Crew!!)

    ReplyDelete
  34. ffm: the rosette tank in deep atlantic was in my store but not the cognac one. It's showing on-line now.

btw, I called again about my short-shipped hammered tank and they said "who knows maybe it will show up in the box with my cardi." So they don't even know what's in the box!

Anyway, they placed a new order, overnighting a new one to me at no charge AND gave me 30% off the tank! Now if only it shows up...

    ReplyDelete
  35. sally: That's great news...let us know when it arrives! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. THIS IS NOT OK

Worst than the rolled pants... OH NO

    Short shorts to work?????

    ReplyDelete
  37. sally: I just finished creating an outfit with the Watercolor Rosette in Aged Cognac and the Andrea in Honey Glaze...I really hope the Honey Glaze looks good on me, because I would love to wear something similar to the look I created Here . :)

Also, please let me know how the sizing runs on the Hammered Silk Tank. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. blumre: That is just GROSS!!! Yuck, Yuck, Yuck! :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. ffm: This is so amazing. I was just going to ask you (and other blondes) if they thought that they Honey Glaze would look good with our hair color! Any opinions?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just wondering, is everybody's Jcrew card statement all in a mess, just like the way melissa mentioned? I haven't seen mine yet, but I'm so afraid I won't be able to sort it out, with all the credits, discounts, etc, that they were supposed to give me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. jcrewjunkie: I am really not sure about the Honey Glaze with blondes...I think it's going to depend on the color of the blonde. I also think the jacket will have to actually be tried on to know for sure. Personally, I am hoping that the jacket will work if it is paired with a blouse/tank/tee in a color that DOES look good with my skintone and particular color of blonde. I really, really, really love the Honey Glaze...I think it looks "decadent" and "old money". It will also look "SUPERFAB" with the British Tan Coach bag. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. While I am not blond so I dont know if I have the right to weigh in. I think the honey glaze color is not the best for blonds or red heads. I think it works if you have light brown or dark brown hair.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I also think they should have made the Andrea in all the colors that the Ecole Jacket comes in...that would have been the best! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I saw a couple of new items marked down at the store yesterday....they had the "stretch vintage cord peplum jacket" marked down from $119 to $79.99 and new featherweight merino v-necks marked down from $69.50 to $59.99 I think.

    ReplyDelete
  45. lisa: What store did you see those items marked down at?

    ReplyDelete
  46. blumre: I tend to agree with you...any form or shade of yellow is hard for a blonde to pull off...too bad the Honey Glaze isn't Camel, instead...that would be "do-able". I am still holding out hope! If I go darker with my hair in Fall/Winter then I may also be able to pull it off. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. tammylee: they were at the Mission Viejo, CA store. They were not included in the 40% off sale, I don't think (they were mixed in with the new fall merchandise).

    ReplyDelete
  48. FFM: I think I a lot of ppl have trouble with yellow. I have very dark hair and eyes and right now i am tan but even still I have trouble with some yellows.

Also Slastena the have the domino skirt online now if you are still looking for it.

OOOO and Jcrew just sent me a WORKING tracking number on an order I placed for my mom. At least its working now... lets see what happens. Too good to be true?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Who has the Katie jacket? I am stalking it right now (it's OOS), but I am in between a S and M in most tops. Usually with cardigans, I go M because Jcrew tends to run smaller in the bust area. Can anyone recommend sizing for this item?

    ReplyDelete
  50. lisa: If you're in between, I would choose to go down on the the katie (unless you have very thick shoulders). The style is a bit boxy, so you don't want it to be a tent on you...I think. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  51. lisa: I have the Katie in M, and it fits great. I too am an S or M in most tops, and all my J.Crew cardigans are M.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well, I called to my store and they are NOT having the 50% off, just 40% off with only a few pair of shorts and some tees left. They also did NOT get the Andrea OR the Watercolor Rosette in Aged Cognac...that SUCKS!!!! I really need to try on the Andrea for color and fit...so annoying! I am going to call over to Tampa to see if they got it. The manager at my store said that if other stores across the US have already received it, then she isn't going to. What a load of BS...J.Crew can't fulfill or ship my online orders, and my store doesn't carry the items I truly want...I'm really P.O.'d.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I can't get the extra20 to work either. It shows up as promotion code extra20 on the checkout page, but the price is still the same. I waited on hold with CS for a while, but I don't have that kind of time or patience.

Also, my promo gift card was also cancelled, but they sent it after I e-mailed THREE TIMES asking why it was cancelled. My problem is that the JCrew stores, while there is one near my house, don't carry a lot of the petite sizes. Frankly, even the promo gift card isn't enough for this formerly very regular J Crew shopper to suffer through the problems of the new website.

    ReplyDelete
  54. jcrewjunkie - Thanks for the tips but I'm feeling ridiculously stubborn today and refuse to reregister. I just won't buy anything online or by phone. Fortunately this little tantrum doesn't preclude me from buying any J. Crew as I'm fortunate enough to live near b&m stores.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks newyork! I just noticed that a small came back in stock...but now I can't get EXTRA20 to work. It's cheaper to buy it on ebay, even at a higher price because with tax and shipping at jcrew.com, it's more!

    ReplyDelete
  56. newyork0311- i had to go to the statement section that shows all transactions, i think the list/ search link. i've only had mine since january so it's not too bad. then you can search the jcrew order status website by the order ref # that shows on your stmt, to see if your return was processed or not, then hopefully it matches with a credited amount on your stmt. it can be confusing! sometimes the order #s dont register with jcrew and sometimes they do, you just have to keep trying.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lisa - I just ordered a Katie jacket online. It was in stock in S and M in both navy and geranium! I usually wear an XS, and I went up to a S in the Katie b/c I felt it ran a bit small (and too tight + ruffles = bad).

    ReplyDelete
  58. ffm: oh no! they don't have the andrea! I'm so mad for you! Can you have them order a couple to the store so you can try them on? I know that involves the horrible distribution center, but if it was going to the store, they could deal with it if it turned into a fiasco, not you...

I went a size down in it when I tried it on if that helps in determining what sizes to ask for...

    ReplyDelete
  59. erica-- thanks! I sucked it up and ordered the small in geranium (as I already have the kelly in navy). I'm tired of stalking it ;) I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't be short-shipped.

    ReplyDelete
  60. kater: I called over to the Tampa store and they don't have it, either. The manager at my store said they can order it for me...trouble is I wanted to try on the 4 and 6 in both colors, and they won't just order it so you can try it on...you have to prepay. Maybe I should just chance the website again...perhaps they wouldn't screw up a full price merchandise order, though Sally has had trouble with her's already...I'm really ticked...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hey is it true that you get free shipping if you order from the red phone in b&m stores

    ReplyDelete
  62. ffm: I'm so mad for you! I wonder if FL just isn't going to get it as it's a heavier jacket...

as for my opinion, I would preorder one of each, each in a different color and size, to the store. But INSIST they have it for you for your shopping trip. Then just return them after trying them on...do they make you pay shipping? They really shouldn't since they don't have it...

    ReplyDelete
  63. FFM: I agree with Kater. Why not order both and later return one? They shouldn't charge shipping. I ordered my elizabeth halter from a store in NY state, and they shipped it for free since it's a full-priced item. (But I made the calls to the stores - I didn't ask my store to order it for me). Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Off topic, but I received the 5 pocket trouser jeans today and I love them! The fit is great!

    ReplyDelete
  65. kater: Great idea! I hope that it works for FFM. The Honey Glaze in the Velvet Ecole (which that SC in NYC was intent about selling to me) didn't seem as "gold" as some of the other yellow pieces that I have from J Crew. Still, I need and want someone elses opinion since I am a total pushover and they could have sold me a burlap bag saying it was the "it" piece of the season and I would have been like, "ok, wow!". I am a total WIMP which is one of the reasons I do so appreciate this blog. I get to form opinions BEFORE a pushy SC can get to me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thank you Melissa for the tips! :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have a CS rep calling down to the warehouse to see about all 5 orders. The three I placed last Friday and the two I placed this morning. I am just really sad because she doesn't think I will be getting ANY of them :o(

    Sigh.....

    ReplyDelete
  68. jcrewjunkie: I noticed that too about the "gold" of the velvet ecole...maybe the fact that it's velvet mutes or mattes it out or something. The Andrea is much more golden (at least in my opinion)...

    ReplyDelete
  69. kater: is the Andrea really more Gold than Mustard? That would make all the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  70. OK, it's "nice" that he apologizes for the problems...but it's also indicative that the company either has poor technology people guiding them or don't understand the technology at all. I love J Crew, but I work in technology and this is just downright embarrassing. How long has this been going on now??? A weekend burp...a small problem is one thing. To have this drag out for weeks is another. I think my kid brother could do a better job. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Here is the color I would love the Andrea to come in Click Here . This jacket is almost like the Andrea, but I can't find anymore info on it, and I love the color. Does anybody with the lookbook in hand know the name, item number, and price?

    ReplyDelete
  72. The link didn't work right...the jacket is the 8th picture in the lookbook, and not the first one where the link takes you. Click Here again for the Look Book .

    ReplyDelete
  73. ffm: I definitely thought it had a much more golden cast. the gold buttons might have tricked me into thinking that though...:) It wasn't as yellow-y as the other j.crew items that I have in that color range are...

Your link opened the look book as a whole. But is it the organish jacket that kind of looks like the andrea? Unfortunately, I don't think that one was in the lookbook I got with my rewards card. but I'll double check if that's the one!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I just read where the Jacket will be available in September but doesn't give any other info, other than you can call to pre-order. The number they give sends you to normal J.Crew CS.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Kater: It's picture number 8, and looks like the Andrea without the Gold Buttons.

    ReplyDelete
  76. dang it! that one isn't in my look book (came with rewards card). Doesn't Vivian have the whole thing from the store? Maybe when she gets on she can tell you...

  77. kater: Thanks for checking...hopefully Vivian will be able to help. :) I really think that if the Andrea is more Gold than Mustard then I might be able to pull it off...my skin tone works well with Gold. :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. If anyone is interested in the patchwork Fiona, it's showing in stock on the sale site in size 4 (item 90976).

    ReplyDelete
  79. ffm: no prob! I really thought it was more golden, but that could have been me, or the dressing room I was in. It definitely seemed deeper than all my yellow stuff from last spring though. I can't remember what they called that color, but I have the crochet-car coat and the cashmere hoodie in it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. FFM: I tried the Andrea on, and I felt like it was more gold than mustard. I really like the honey glaze color, although I did feel like it kind of washed me out. I'm pretty pasty though, haha. I like it though because it's not as sickly looking as mustard; it's a nice autumn gold color, IMO. It seems like you really want it, so I think it would be worth it for you to try it. They will ship it for free if you do it through the store, and it's full price so you can return it. There's really not a whole lot to lose. And then if you don't like it, you can move on.

btw, I REALLY want a hammered silk tank in peacock, and maybe that pretty yellow color if it's actually as bright as it looks online. I am going to see if KOP has any.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I have to say that it is really frustrating to find out that my store carries so few of the "good" items that I want when I actually have a solo shopping trip, J.Crew money to spend, AND my hubby's blessing! They don't even have any good sale merchandise to go through, either...I will probably be saving the gift cards for later...just hope J.Crew doesn't "wipe" my balance like they seem to have done with some of the other promo cards of posters on here...it make me nervous to not spend them, just in case that were to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  82. kater: are you talking about the Sour Lemon or Light Citron?

    ReplyDelete
  83. FFM why dont you make a deal with your husband that you go another weekend and reserve the gift cards for then? Seems like a logical choice to me...

    ReplyDelete
  84. ffm: maybe sour lemon? they were from spring 07...

    ReplyDelete
  85. The note was a nice gesture...however it slightly irritated me, because like the second article said they didn't offer us anything as a thanks for bearing with them!

I also think the website is still kind of crappy. I know they are still upgrading or whatever they do over there....and yet...simple things like photos of the clothes isn't loading! how on earth are we supposed to shop when I don't even know what certain items look like. It just irritates me.

The fall collection is great...yet they reward us for our waiting with outrageously high prices...thanks jcrew...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thanks Michelle, Kater, and newyork0311: I am really contemplating calling my fave CS rep and asking if she would consider expediting it to me free of charge...that way I would "possibly" get it tomorrow, and could take it back with me this weekend if it doesn't work out for me...it's risky ordering from the web, but it might be worth the chance if I can get it overnight. :)

blumre: that's a really great suggestion...maybe I should just wait...I was only going this weekend because of the 50% off, but they don't have it anyways, and it's not like I need a new sweater or jacket to wear this coming week. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  87. FabulousFloridaMommy, How much did they give you on those gift cards?

    ReplyDelete
  88. FFM: Even if they do have 50% off this weekend... there is NO reason to buy something you don't need or want. Why not wait and have your "day" next month. Your day should be when you want it and when you can get the most out of it. I am sure your husband will be happy that you arent shopping this week. And then maybe your store will get your jacket in... or you can take your time deciding on what you really want.

    ReplyDelete
  89. anon @11:32: I received about the same amount as blumre and jcrewjunkie...why do you keep asking me?

    ReplyDelete
  90. blumre: I am in total agreement with you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. FFM: Did we receive the same amount? I cant remember? I think I might have more than you did because I ended up getting double shipped and the CS just told me to return stuff and get credit for it. E.g. I got an extra dress and an extra sweater. I told the CS that I thought that was wrong and she said the system is so messed up that if I sent it back I would just get a gift card anyway even though one order was double shipped and therefore not charged. One item I was double charged for but that was refunded to me. She said to just do it otherwise my little disaster was going to go on forever. So I ended up with almost $300 of free jcrew money. The CS said consider it a gift from her and not stealing. I think thats partially why I am having trouble spending the $, b/c I feel guilty. Even though I didn't steal and I was honest, I feel like it was theft. Am I crazy? Probably.

    ReplyDelete
  92. blumre: you are not crazy...the J.Crew rep told you how to handle it, and that's what you did. :) The rep from the other day actually offered me a free item and I chose the Andrea...she said she would rather put the money on my card so I could try it on in the store...alot of good that did...anyways, she loaded the Andrea amount onto a card that I already had $100 on from other J.Crew mistakes.

The same anonymous keeps asking how much I received, and I'm not sure why they even want to know...I feel bad that other's who had similar situations to mine were not offered Gift Cards, and thus I don't think it nice to continue to discuss my promo cards or amounts, and that is why I have not answered their questions prior.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I agree with you FFM. I think its not fair to throw it in other's faces. I think everyone who has had difficulties should be "compensated" for their time and frustration. I feel badly for everyone who was not given a promotion in some way shape or form! :(

    ReplyDelete
  94. Alexis (and to those who found the articles)-- thank you for posting on this.... I was wondering if it would hit the financial publications. While I appreciate the fact J. Crew posted an apology--- I agree with most that it is a little to late! I tried calling about the fall preview items (the french serge day coat, berry trimmed astrid jacket, and the metallic bags) and was surprised that the CSR had NO idea that the items were posted to pre-order. I was merely trying to get the details on colors, sizes, prices, and materials and she had no details.... I am not sure about anyone else, but this is not the first time this has happened! J. Crew WHY BOTHER ADVERTISING items you have no details/info on. The CSR person was kind enough to call me back with the names (since the site does not give a name and item number)--- and general info..... I wonder if a PS would be the route to go???? With the stock going down 40%-- and a website issue, you would think that they would do ANYTHING to keep us!!! I guess they know that we are loyal......

    ReplyDelete
  95. Jcrewmommy: thanks that was sweet of you. and $25 is still enough to take a big chuck out of an item. I was actually thinking about breaking my card up increments... as in: Ok $50 on this item and then I will pay the rest in cash or something like that. Just to make it last longer. ;)

Nicole: well said. I would recommend a personal shopper. I think you would enjoy the experience.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Knowing that others got gift cards for their order issues makes everyone else more aware of what they should ask for the next time they are on the phone with CS. This is supposed to be an info-sharing community on J.Crew, right FFM?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I was offered a small gift card for my trouble. Although, I still haven't heard back at all from the CS from this morning. I think we would all rather have our items as opposed to the gift cards!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anon: Except none of us ASKED or would EVER ask for a gift card! None of us would dream of doing that. Its rude, pushy and not the right thing to do. We were offered them because Jcrew wanted to placate us and keep our business. I can almost guarantee you a CS rep would not respond well to you asking and you probably wouldn't get one.

    ReplyDelete
  99. The MY ACCOUNT link no longer works on the site. I feel like this is a joke....

We have a tax free weekend on clothes in TN this weekend. My 9 year old wanted to go to J Crew. I just don't know if I want to bother. I ordered a cardigan in small last winter on final sale that was REALLY small. She can wear it with a long sleeve shirt under it. (It looks loose but in a really cute way.) She is now all into J Crew. After this past week, I just don't know if I want to start that addiction.

    ReplyDelete
  100. jcrewmommy: well said!

Ok all, I am starving and off to lunch! Talk to you later.

    ReplyDelete
  101. not sure if anyone needs sizing for the katie still, but I bought one in xs and it fits pretty well. I'm a bit flat chested though, so maybe that's why (ah wells:( )
I wish jcrew would hold your items for a time limit, it always seems like they only have one item in stock in my size, and when I go to check out all these orange messages saying the item's gone appear, and I'm so disappointed I end up not purchasing anything:/

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hi there: I would also like to say that I think this blog has been a tremendous help for all of us dealing with this J Crew upgrade. The advice on here has helped me tremendously. I actually at times feel bad that I can't help too much. I'm not so savy at putting outfits together. I will check my local stores for whoever though! That's pretty much all I can offer :)

I think everyone has been extremely supportive on here. FFM actually called a store for me so my fiance wouldn't get mad at me!! I'll refer to just one other of many incidents of someone being very gracious and considerate - Michelle getting a Bright Flame Kelly and offering it to FFM. That's just awesome.

I've received lots of advice on outfits and purchases. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  103. It would be especially great if they would actually hold your items that you order! I still haven't heard anything back from the CS.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ok, does anyone have any experience returning an item to the store due to quality issues? I got 2 pairs of city ballet flats in suede about 2 months ago, and one pair is fine, but the other... On the heel part, the suede is already completely worn through, all the way to the lining. (It's hard to explain, but my shoe guy says it's a problem with the design and can't be repaired.) And I've only worn them a handful of times - 10 tops!

I was going to go over to the store at lunch to see about getting a credit, which is what shoe man advised me to do. Is jcrew usually pretty good about returns/credits in these circumstances (a la Nordstrom) or should I practice my pleading skills on the way over?

    ReplyDelete
  105. I like the look of the city-fit Stretch wool pinstripe gallery pant in the suiting section! Does anyone else own this pant and can advise about sizing? After last season's crazy stretch wool sizing I'm not sure.

I'm in medical school and these would be perfect for days when we see patients!

    ReplyDelete
  106. ps - has anyone seen the Salina flats in metallic atlantic in person? How dark is the blue? How bright is the metallic? I'm thinking about asking for the purchase price of my defective navy suede flats to be applied towards the purchase of those. It's so hard to find decent navy blue shoes!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Can anyone tell me about the sizing of the Lana and Alessia blouses. I'm normally a 4 but sometimes their blouses run big on me. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  108. a.: There is no need to plead. You spent your hard earned $$$ on shoes that should have lasted years and instead they didn't. Simply state that the quality was not suitable, show them your proof and everything will be fine. I have returned items (most recently a Links Print cardigan that I bought FP and after the first wearing the entire armpit was missing!!) and they have always been very gracious about it. Good luck and let us know what happens. :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. a: I have also had no problems taking things back that were defective. boning popped out of a strapless dress once, making a rather uncomfortable situation when I wore it, and they took it back, no questions asked. they also refunded my shipping.

at the very least, j.crew does stand behind it's merchandise...:)

    ReplyDelete
  110. jcrewbug: I am very small and usually take an XS/0 in J Crew tops. Since I am wearing my Lana under something, the Light Citron Summerweight Cashmere V-neck cardigan, it works just fine in the bigger size. If I were wearing it alone then I would probably have had to go down a size to the 0. In fact, I am currently watching a Neon Pink one on Ebay in size 0 to wear with a gray skirt. Hope this helps! :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. ffm - they have the joelle blouse in papaya (cant remember if that is the one you were looking for or not...)

    ReplyDelete
  112. I seriously think that J.Crew should just shut down their website for a few days to fix all the problems...

    ReplyDelete
  113. FFM: Is this the dark orange jacket with ruffle trim?

    ReplyDelete
  114. ffm: The total of my gift cards plus my $150 reward card came to $497. I am still not in receipt of 19 items that I ordered before the switchover so I am guessing that they are compensating me in some way but truthfully I am not totally sure. I called CS and they weren't sure either, but simply said, "Enjoy". I would LOVE to "enjoy", but don't have a b&m store near me and am fearful of using the website so that is where I stand. Grrrr.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Do the Joelle blouses run true to size? I know people have sized down on the cami.....

    ReplyDelete
  116. FFM: The Andrea-lookalike is the Astrid Jacket with ruffle trim - Item 96281 $285 PC (stands for "Premium Cashmere" - meaning not all stores carry it).

I don't see why they can't ship you a few jackets in different sizes sans shipping costs. They did that for when I was contemplating the pearl jewelery and several suits.

    ReplyDelete
  117. FFM: If you're referring to page 8 (next to the page showing belts), then the jacket is the Cashmere Lady Jacket 97457 $398. Hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  118. vivian: It's the Cashmere Lady Jacket! I really like that one, too. I wish the Andrea came in that color, as well. THANK YOU!!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  119. anon @11:58: Yes, this is a FABULOUS sharing community, and I share information here on a daily basis. However, I don't feel that continuing to state the fact that I received gift cards for all the trouble with my orders is appropriate or necessary. Anyone who is a regular member of this blog knows that a few of us DID receive them, and DID NOT ask for them...we were offered them by the CS reps. Why should we continue to post about getting them? It doesn't make any sense, and I still don't see your need to know how much I received.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jcrewbug: Did you join polyvore? You should. I think you are probably much more fashionable and better at putting outfits together than you think you are... you post here, and thats proof enough for me!

A- you should have no problem returning anything that is defective.

Anyone: How do you check the amount on a gift card online. The wait is insane right now to talk to a CS REP and I called the # on the back of the card and it said my acct number was invalid. Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  121. anon @ 12:36: Thanks for the heads up on the Joelle, but I need a size 2, and they unfortunately don't have one. :)

anon@12:46: I was informed that they run big, and that is why I ordered a size 2, even with broad shoulders. :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. blumre: to check your gift card balance...go into the "My Account" section, and click on Gift Card Balance...it will ask for the number and pin. When you enter them it will give you the balance. :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. Totally off topic:

Melanie (I think): I don't know about the SLUB tees, but I was wondering what they're like too.

This is funny: a day or two ago when I was on the phone (on hold)with J.Crew, the song they were playing was a remake of Patience (I know I can't spell). You know, "...darling things will work out fine/all we need is just a little patience.../we've got what it takes to make it." (Was that Guns N Roses? I never liked them, but it was funny as heck.)
The next time I was on hold, I think the song was about lesbienism.

I don't really think the old sale stuff from the stores would go to the catalog/website. I think it would go to the outlets. Otherwise, they'd have to look through every item to be sure it was in decent shape to sell. I don't know, I don't see that.

    ReplyDelete
  124. OK I have no idea where this card came from. One just showed up in my mailbox when I went home for lunch and it was fed-exed to me! And there is $100 dollars on it. WTF?????? Sorry to use foul language even if it is abbreviated. I AM SOOOOOOO SHOCKED. HOLY COW!!!!!!! Maybe its time for the Andrea at full price???

NO NO I must resist! At least until September. I will only buy it full price if I can wear it right away. And in this 90 degree heat that wont happen. THIS IS INSANE. OH MY GOODNESS!

What a lovely surprise! Thanks to whichever CS rep sent this to me. THANK YOU!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Alright...I did call my fave CS rep and place an order for the Andrea in Honey Glaze, size 4 (I hope and pray if fits), and the Watercolor Floral Rosette Tank in Aged Cognac, size 0. She put in to have them Overnighted to me, but said the expedited shipping isn't really working now, so I may still not get them until next week. I received my educator discount, which brought the Andrea down to $196 + tax and the Watercolor Tank to $83 + tax and I received free shipping...fingers crossed... :) I'll keep you posted. :)

    ReplyDelete
  126. FFM: congrats on biting the bullet and buying. I cant wait to hear about them. I am crossing my fingers for you.

    ReplyDelete
  127. That should be "placed" an order, not "place" an order. :)

blumre: the rep told me the Andrea is very popular...maybe you should get it at full price like I did, as well...you would only need another $100 to get it with your educator discount. :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. yeah ffm and blumre! I'm so glad you ordered those items ffm! I think with the educator's discount, you still got a good deal. AND you have the option to return them...:)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the expedited shipping works for you. You deserve it!

and congrats blumre! that is so awesome. it must feel like your birthday or something!

    ReplyDelete
  129. FFM: Great decision to go with the Andrea. Keep us posted!

Blumre: Congrats! Maybe you should order the Andrea too! I'd hate to have it sold out. Maybe this is the "it" jacket, not the Ecole :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. blumre, kater, and vivian: I am LITERALLY hyperventilating...NO JOKE! I am in utter shock that I actually placed the order, and for a full price item, at that! My hands are shaking as I type, and I feel like I'm going to vomit...I really, really hope the 4 fits me!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Kater: Oh it feels like all 8 crazy nights of channukah shmooshed into 1 hour. Its amazing.

FFM: Well I am deciding between the andrea and the ecole. I think the andrea, while cute probably wouldnt work with my boobs (pockets over big boobs look bad normally). But its adorable. The ecole on the other hand would only be $143 with my discount but I would have to have another hook and eye closure added on to make it fall correctly on my body.

Any word on how fast the Ecole in velvet is selling out? That and the name of the jacket is french and that always makes me happy since I was a french major in college

    ReplyDelete
  132. blumre: No word on the Ecole...sorry! The price of $143 is a good deal, and also the option to return that goes along with it, makes it even better. :)

    ReplyDelete
  133. blumre, how do you pronounce "ecole?"

    ReplyDelete
  134. blumre: Congrats on the surprise Gift Card, btw! :) Now the Ecole would be practically free...GRIN

    ReplyDelete
  135. Oh yeh, I forgot to tell you all that the CS rep said that J.Crew has hired a TON of new people to answer the phones just recently, and that yesterday was a REALLY bad day for all of the CS reps...guess it had something to do with that apology email...

    ReplyDelete
  136. lynn,
I'm about to enter M1, do you happen to have any tips about what we should be wearing? (blazers, suits? :o)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Anon: Ecole - I thought the 'e' was silent but my store director pronounced it e-cho-lay.

Blumre: I did ask a CS rep yesterday if the Ecole is doing as well as the Bella. And she paused and sort of whispered: "It could be better." I didn't specify the velvet though.

    ReplyDelete
  138. FFM: I'm so excited for you! It's going to look fabulous on you! The color is certainly more gold than mustardly when I saw it in the store last week. I didn't try it.

Anon: Didn't mean to cut in - you were asking blumre about the pronunciation of ecole. She's the French major and would have a better answer for you!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Slastena:
I was in the Tysons II store this morning and they gave me my teacher's disc. on final sale merchandise! Maybe they have finally seen the light . . . Not much sale stuff left btw, and it was still only 40% off.

ffm: Congrats on your Andrea! I'm right on the verge of calling my CS to have her order it for me. They have them in my store (honey glaze) and they seemed to fit true to size.
    MJ in VA

    ReplyDelete
  140. This is OT, but my tartine cardigan arrived today and I love it! I was worried that the ruffle would hardly be noticeable because it is hard to see on the herringbone dream cardigan, but it's just right. Not too big, not too small. And, even though we have dangerously hot weather today, I am wearing it (inside, of course). Now, I want more, but I will probably wait for it to be waitlist or on sale. I guess UPS works fast if they just received it in VA last night (according to tracking). (I'm in SC).

    ReplyDelete
  141. Thanks MJ! I'm nervous about the shoulders being to tight on the 4, but my rep said she thinks it will work, so I went with it, instead of the 6. I think the Pique' will "give" a little, too, so I should be fine. :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. Btw, has anyone called/been to a store to see if they started their 50% off at noon (like last Thursday when 40% started at noon)? It's tax free weekend here in SC, too, so I have wondered about making the trip.

ffm" congrats! I love the Andrea and hope it works for you. Let us know.

    ReplyDelete
  143. blumre: congrats on the gift card! I am so glad that they haven't messed up any of my orders, but a gift card would be nice... I think if it's not your money, buy something at fp if you wouldn't normally do that. Like ffm. :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. FFM: Ecole. Has an accent above the first E. Check this site and see if it works
    http://french.about.com/library/pronunciation/bl-audiodico-e.htm

    ReplyDelete
  145. ok guys, just back from the store - the shoe return went just fine. In fact, I think I can actually say something good about the system upgrade: I guess they couldn't find my orig. order, so they credited me full price for the shoes (even though I got them on sale... shh!).

No additional 40/50% off on sale, though. It was a pretty crummy sale section too, mostly tees.

And my french lesson of the day: école is pronounced A-cole, with a long A (like you were saying "a Kenneth Cole" but without Kenneth). It means school. Whee!

    ReplyDelete
  146. math teacher: Congrats on the Tartine! I'm so happy you like it - this means I didn't go wrong ordering it in three colors (now 4).

Is yours the bright rhubarb? I won't get to see mine until after my deep persimmon gets here.

    ReplyDelete
  147. FFM, math teacher: The Andrea is really pretty! Wish it comes in other colors! I have too many yellow and red tones this season. Even DH, who's usually clueless, pointed that out.

    ReplyDelete
  148. math teacher: YAY! What color did you get? The Tartine is one of my wishlist items, as well...does it also run true to size? My store is NOT having the 50% off, only 40% still, and barely no merchandise. I just spoke to the manager and my store doesn't even HAVE the Tartine Cardigans...you've GOT to be kidding me!!! She said maybe they will get them later...are they available in anyone else's stores?

blumre: thanks for the pronunciation, but I'm not the one who asked...I also took French, and know how to say it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  149. Mischa- CONGRATS! It's so great seeing a fellow medical student on here. I think it really just depends on your school. Year 1 for us had a ton of patient interaction, so we had to wear "business casual" pretty often, which for me is suiting pants and usually a Jackie cardigan :-) On normal school days, the dress was a mish-mash of everything. What specialty are you thinking of going into?

    ReplyDelete
  150. Again, OT, but Boden has a lovely velvet blazer that comes in several lovely shades (including a purple) that has buttons and only costs $98 (and, it's machine washable, moms and teachers! :) ). Here's the link:

    ReplyDelete
  151. To anyone with a Tartine: is it see-through, looks that way on the web. how light is it?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Right! I thought I pronounced it correctly too until I heard the store director say it differently. I also took French (and had a French BF) but that was years ago :)

    ReplyDelete
  153. vivian and ffm: I got the bright rhubarb and it is definitely a pinky red. I have the linen cotton sweater from early spring in almost the same color. As for size, I am normally a medium in their sweaters, but based on the fit of the dream herringbone cardigan and the sa's advice, I sized down to a small. I would not be able to wear it buttoned, but usually can't anyway (large chest). I think I will button the one button below the chest (how I'm wearing it now) so that it gives a little more shape, but even unbuttoned, it's pretty flattering.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I asked for the pronunciation; thanks, blumre and a. :)

If J. Crew ever comes out with a German line, I will return the favor. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  155. jcrewbug: when I tried on the tartine without anything under it, I didn't think it was see through. When I tried it on with a white tank, I could see the tank through it. So, I'm not sure how to answer that. I think it would be okay with a nude color underneath.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Things for us in Canada are looking up in regards to J.crew. After my gift card disaster with receiving two and both were empty (Is that J.crew's way of saying I need to spend more?) they seem to be slowly getting their act together.

The CS I dealt with yesterday was very helpful. I asked if the gift cards could be reloaded rather than sending new ones and wasting more money. But no that wasn't possible, so they are being send again.

They morning I received an email from J.crew saying the gift cards had shipped, but with out tracking numbers. Slowly, but surely they are improving.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the website has the Amelia tank in multiple sizes and colors for 19.99. It's so pretty, but personally, I tried it on when they had it in stores and it didn't suit my body type.

    ReplyDelete
  158. blumre: I hope my comment about the pronunciation didn't come across as rude...it wasn't meant that way. :)

    ReplyDelete
  159. fashion question! how are you guys wearing the elizabeth halter? i'm normally a medium, so thats what I ordered, it seems HUGE! is it me? or is that the way its supposed to be worn?

  160. I know that one of the main people responsible for the J.Crew website suddenly left the company a little over a month ago for a similar job at Coach. But I don't know if this person's departure has anything to do with the current website problems or not.

  162. anon@ 2:28 pm: I find the Elizabeth halter to run very big...I now have a small, but would order it in extra small if I were to get another one. :)

  163. Blumre: Maybe I'll have to signup and give my fashion skills a try! Thanks!

Math Teacher: That's a perfect answer thanks! I'm looking for something thicker so I might try the Jacinda instead.

  166. aly: I did notice the Amelia Tank marked down...I have one and still have not worn it since I need to take the straps up...they would probably be all out of them by the time they went to ship them to me, anyways, with the luck I've had the past month. ;) I wish it was the Joelle on sale...then I would order in any color I could get. :)

  167. blumre: I have the velvet ecole in honey glaze and I absolutely love it. It fit greats. I really want to get it in another color too.

  168. anon @ 2:28: Here is an example of how I wear the Elizabeth (I have it in Navy) Click Here . I wear a cropped cardigan instead of a cropped jacket with it, and usually only if I get cold indoors...otherwise I just wear the Halter by itself. :)

  169. You know what I was thinking. When I first graduated from college I really missed out on my roommates helping me get dressed to go out or wherever! You guys on here are like my long lost outfit helpers from college! It's been great!

I actually tried it on the the store. It would need to be adjusted (then again most jackets do when you have boobs). But I did love it in the rosier red color. Congrats on the jacket, glad you like it!

  173. I don't understand you guys. I come to this blog to read about the J.Crew clothing, shoes, promos, etc. I was very happy to find a group of people who are fans of the J.Crew brand and who are excited about the interesting design, good quality, great customer service just like I am. However, since the site upgrade all I am reading is complaints. You are complaining about the slowness of the site, issues with your orders, being on hold for 20 minutes while trying to get a customer service rep on the phone. Also you even managed to bring here articles from other websites that are criticizing J.Crew website. Enough is enough! Give J.Crew a break! We all make mistakes and once in while we all deserve understanding and forgiveness. Are you really J.Crew fans? Then why are you participating not in one but in many different threads about J.Crew fiasco? Keep one thread open to share your thoughts about the issues you encountered lately. There is no need to open several and complain in each of them. Please stop gossiping. I think it was thoughtful of J.Crew CEO and president to email us their apologies and put it on the front page of the website. They are showing you that everybody in the company is aware of the problem and they are doing everything possible to fix it. Many of you received additional discounts, free shipping and gift cards from J.Crew to compensate you for their mistake. What else do you want? $1K shopping spree? I am sure that even if CEO offered you some type of discount in the apology email, you would still gossip about the % not being high enough. Everybody, take a deep breath and let J.Crew do what they need to do to fix the site. Support your favorite brand by saying what you like about it and how you are excited about new fall items. Remember, nobody is perfect, including you.

  174. Thanks, Lynn!
To be quite honest I really have no idea, other than the fact that I'd rather not go into Emergency (not too keen on the idea of having night shifts until I'm senior, though the work seems to be one of the more interesting bunch:)
I love the jackie, thanks for the tip, now I've got more reasons to stock up!
I've heard quite a few complaints about not having comfy footwear, I've been thinking of investing in some good quality leather one inch heels(can't believe I don't already own a pair either:o)

  175. Ok, I have a lot of catching up to do since I've been out for a few hours but wanted to give you all a quick update...

My hammered silk tank that was supposed to be overnighted and marked off 30%...CANCELED now!!!!

I called and asked what on earth is going on. They said they are suddenly having an issue with their system canceling order inexplicably. They currently have supervisor walking all over the floor taking down info and trying to find the root of the problem. BEWARE!!!

  176. Victoria, this isn't a mandatory place to visit. It's funny that you really like J Crew (cough cough employee cough cough) and yet you have nothing to offer regarding how you have been able to order without a hitch. Instead, you complain about us.

I'm glad you are unaffected by the J Crew fiasco which has cost several of us money (that's right...when you screw up my card, I pay the interest! When you screw up the tax, I am stuck with it because you can't figure it out! You = J CREW collectively and not victoria).

    ReplyDelete
  177. math teacher: FYI: J.Crew online supposedly honors your tax-free week on their purchases, as well. I do NOT know this from personal experience (Florida isn't having one this year, as legislation forgot to vote about it, apparently), but that is what my rep told me earlier today, as were discussing the almost $20 I was charged in sales tax. Just thought you should know. :)

  180. sally: UGH! I just ordered my Andrea and the Watercolor Rosette in Cognac a little while ago...let's hope we both end up with our orders! :)

  181. What did we conclude that RELEASED means again?

    ReplyDelete
  182. blumre: thanks, I am so sad too. I think my best bet is to see if a store has it and just have them send it. But there goes my discount...

tired memphian: I was wondering the same thing.

  183. (referring back to the pronunciation of the ecole jacket) - I love it when J.Crew names clothing after french things! It makes me feel special that I know what they mean =) It also reminds of of last fall and the Paris catalog.

Blumre - I'm exactly the same with the italian! I never know to pronounce the c as a ch or kuh sound. I also tend to use the french accent when trying to pronounce italian - I think I'll just keep my mouth shut next week when I'm in Italy!

Although I can say "Field of flowers" since J.Crew had a dress named that a while back.

  184. Ok, ladies (and gents, I guess), I have not seen so much whining about a single store in my entire life. Ok, they changed their entire website and things did not go as planned. Would not be a first. I honestly think that people who can't live for a month without shopping on a certain website have more serious issues at hand.

Ok, I honestly love jcrew. Probably 75% of my clothes are from jcrew, but I am ok with not shopping there while they are figuring out all the issues. And I definitely dont spend day in and day out talking about how awfully I have been treated by jcrew. You dont' get that items you ordered and yet, you order again, you again keep waiting for your packages and you keep talking about it on this blog over and over again.

I am sorry. I used to really like this blog because of all the interesting discussions and tips and discount codes. Now it turned into "They-made-my-life-so-miserable-because-I-can't-get-that-jacket-that-I-really-want-but-I-plan-on-checking-website-yet-again-and-hope-it-will-arrive-if-not-I-will-be-back-and-whine-about-it-some-more" extravaganza.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Victoria: If you don't like it don't read it. I personally think that discussing problems has helped me resolve my own. Including networking to get the items that I want, knowing how to approach customer service, and finding solice in the fact that I'm not J Crew's target of bad business practice. If you would like to censor bloggers then start your own blog. I think that open discussion and the comments made on this blog are the most useful aspects of this blog.

  186. ffm: I had wondered about that, especially if I visit and they don't have what I want. I wasn't sure if a red phone order would honor the no sales tax. I really want the cashmere argyle vest and the penelope flats, but they are so much and I rarely pay full price for anything (I know, I went for it with the tartine). Now I am even more tempted to buy more J Crew this weekend. :)

    ReplyDelete
  187. ffm: I'm so excited for you! I hope you LOVE the jacket like I do! Don't worry. I'm sure you will have better luck than I did. I mean you are really due for some good luck with this darn site!

I was told released means they have submitted it to UPS. But I think the definition on here was different.

    ReplyDelete
  188. math teacher: I understood it to mean that it is NO sales tax on ANY price item...just like it is when you shop at the stores in your state, and that can save a BUNDLE, especially on full price items. Good Luck, and let me know what happens so I can plan for next year! :)

  189. Wow! The trolls or troll are coming out in full force today, eh?

Since one of the things is aimed at me, please feel free to talk about my pathetic life. It appears you have nothing better to do than troll for reactions. May I remind you of the number of MD's, PhD's and JD's on this blog as well as those who are in interesting professions and lives? Seems like a rather intelligent and friendly bunch to me.

This is a blog for people who want to share in a positive fashion towards each other.

  190. Math teacher: I think they should honor it on the red phone. :)

  191. Victoria: last time I checked, we still have free speech. And, when something is said (or written) that I don't like, I don't listen (or don't read). Many have lost money or had money tied up for over a month now, and money is a hot issue here these days. I know this isn't true for all of us, but I'm single and have no one here at home with me to discuss things, so this is good therapy for many. We have just as much right to our opinions as you do to yours.

  192. **Karen who posted in the 21 July Great Exchange Thread**

I just saw on J.Crew's sale section the papaya taffeta rugby skirt in size 10. I don't know if you already found one, or where to post it so you see it, but here it is.

There wasn't an e-mail attached to your post.

    Good luck!

  193. Victoria: Stop bringing everyone's spirits down. It's bad enough that people have had horrible experiences with J Crew's update. Just let people complain and don't read the posts about them. You may not feel hurt by the upgrade, but nevertheless, other people are not going to feel great about their experiences with J Crew no matter how much they love the clothes. My point is don't call people whiny when they're upset. It makes it sound like you're belittling people. Maybe some people need this blog to find others who can identify with their shopping frustrations. Let people be and don't criticize them for how they choose to express those feelings. It's not hurting anyone.

So you'll be fine in ITALY. And sorry about my butchered french. I can't write it but I can speak it fluently and I understand everything... And it doesnt help when there are accents under everything. HAVE FUN IN ITALY... what will you be wearing?

    ReplyDelete
  195. sally: Thanks! I really AM due some good luck when it comes to J.Crew and their shipping. ;) My order history shows the items as Open, but the order as Released...I've never had a released order before, and I don't remember what was said regarding it.

    ReplyDelete
  196. ffm: they may need an sa to confirm the no tax, but it would be worth it on a large amount. Hopefully Florida will get their act together and you'll get your weekend back next year. I do wish my school would give us our $ to buy school supplies before the weekend instead of after. I mean, I know I can reimburse myself, but it would be nice to have it ahead of time.
