"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. order from end of Sept still not delivered. third time this has happened in the past 1.5 mths. shipping to Canada typically is now 10days.(business day) . the last one took 3 weeks. gee...and $12 to boot!
the pricing games on Canadian site are terrible. I admit to being a multiple purchaser for items I end up wearing alot. but I draw the line at paying 2x-3x more than I already have. asked CS and they will not price match previously ordered prices...after a week.
disappointed in the handbags/purses and jewellery so far.
as for the Demylee collaboration it looks boxy/sloppy/poor fabric content to me.
wish they had released the new t shirts that rolled out yesterday this summer.its alittle late for them now.

  2. Not a vent... two stackable 15% off coupon codes available. These are the inserts that are in the style guide. Sadly, not valid in Canada.

Good until Nov 17, 2018 at 11:59 PM ET: FAFYMJWFK and YOUK3ERJP

They can be used with other promo code - apparently you just enter both in the box at checkout.

If you use one, please reply below so people know it is gone.

    Enjoy

    1. Couldn't use the codes with the current code. At least didn't work for me. Maybe someone already used them?

    2. The catalog codes don't work with the website promo codes. I tried when the catalog first came out.

    3. Weird. I was able to stack the catalog 15% code with the 40% off offered on the website last week. I forgot what the online promo code was. Bigsale I think. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to be able to.

    4. They're supposed to work with an additional code.

    5. I used two codes last week with BIGSALE.

    6. I used one in store this week to stack with 40% Off.

    7. I’ve been able to use two codes with no issue. Extra 15% off has worked each time.

    8. enter the promo first- it comes off each affected item
next enter the coupon code - it comes off the pre-tax value of the total
      next enter gift card
      next enter JC rewards
last see if there are credit card rewards click “redeem”

and yes, I did get a “free” furry jacket.

    9. any Canadians able to use these or have gotten any codes?

    10. Omg wellfedfred - I’m not even going to ask you how you stumbled upon the exact process. I tried three catalog codes with earlier web promos and couldn’t get any of them to work, so I just gave up the orders. One time I put in some effort and asked CS to apply it later. I didn’t realize how much effort JC put into not letting us stack them in a predictable and user friendly way.

  3. I emailed CS to ask why I hadn’t received my birthday special offer and was told that it’s only offered to cardholders. I know I’ve been away for awhile and perhaps it’s already been discussed here, but this is a new policy for me. I’ve always received a birthday special offer, usually $25 off $100. Last year I used it to towards a beautiful linen Campbell blazer. This year, well, I guess I’ll be shopping with one of the retailers that *did* give me a birthday offer!

    2. shopgrrrl - Happy Birthday!!
I'm not a cardholder; have been shopping with J Crew since I was in high school (a long time ago). I have never ever received any birthday coupons or discounts. When I signed up for Factory emails I was told I'd get a discount offer for my birthday but of course that never happened. I agree with you - they should send something for your birthday month.

    3. Happy Birthday month for us Shopgrrrl!

Been a cardholder for more than 10 years and this year was the first time I’ve gotten a Birthday offer.

      Not for us 🙃

    5. Happy Birthday to all the October JCAs! And thank you for your birthday wishes. I wonder why the birthday policy is so inconsistent? Factory didn’t send me anything this year either, though I’ve received a % off code in the past few years. Anthro, The Bay, and Banana Republic all sent me birthday offers.

  4. Question, please

I have the Ratti elephant skirt from last year which I wore today. Inside the skirt there are 2 thin ribbon loops - about 4 inches long (measured doubled over) - I never use these loops for hanging my garments but I understand that's what they are for. But there are also two smaller threaded loops I never noticed before - inside at the bottom of the waistband - about an inch long - on each side. Does anyone know what these are for? I clearly need to get a life because I did look this up on the internet, but could not find an answer. Anyone? Thank you!

    1. I think I can clear up this mystery for you! If you want to hang the skirt using the ribbons, you're first supposed to feed them through the smaller threaded loops. This way, when you hang the skirt up, the front section doesn't gape open, but stays 'closed,' like it would if you had used a hanger with clips. :)

    2. Ohhh. That makes sense! Thanks, Ash. Appreciate you clearing this up for me. That's exactly why I never used the ribbons before - because of the gaping. It makes me wonder if there were accompanying smaller threaded loops in the various skirts that have come into and gone out of my life... Thanks again.

    3. I have a strapless dress with the same sets of loops, but I’d totally forgotten about until now. I read the post a few times and knew it rang a bell but I couldn’t remember why!

  5. I feel like these codes and rewards are burning a hole in my pocket. There are a few sweaters I'd consider except they don't come in black and/or the fabric content is not ideal. Seriously, why isn't the regular roll neck sweater available in black? I know myself and know what I wear. I don't want gray or navy, yellow or orange. I want a nice cotton sweater in black. The ones I have I wear to death.
Also the black slingbacks are now backordered until FEBRUARY?

    1. Hi Suz Has, have you tried the balloon sleeve turtleneck in black? I know it’s wool not cotton that you mentioned but I bought it as I love turtlenecks but the sleeves add a little something.

    2. I'm considering it. I really could use a decent crewneck for now. I have some dressier merino turtlenecks that I save for "going out" and stacks of other black sweaters that look like garbage after a season. Last year I got a balloon sleeve funnelneck from the gap and the Madewell chunky funnelneck knit (I forget what it was called) and even with lint removing and sweater combing they both look like garbage. I actually prefer the material content of the gap one and it looks ok with slouchy distressed jeans, but it's a problem. I could fill a big garbage bag with all my totally functional but shabby looking sweaters. Even if I only pay $40 on sale, I don't want to toss them all after a season.

    3. Suz, I ordered the balloon sleeve turtleneck earlier this week with the 40% off - I'll let you know how it is.

My biggest regret from last winter are all of my nylon blend sweaters that yes, look like crap...need to resist this year!

    4. Anne, it's a big dilemma! I don't mind wearing them around the house (which is where I usually am with all my projects) but I feel really guilty about getting rid of them.

    5. I agree with you Suz. I have so many sweaters that I wear to do errands on a Saturday but I don't like enough to wear to a casual dinner at night. And I think I have come to believe that no matter how much defuzzing I do, the sweaters never look great afterwards.

Anne, I think that sweater will look fabulous on you! Fingers crossed.

    6. Slightly OT But I checked everlane and they have the perfect sweater. Mockeneck, long sleeves, lean but not tight. The negative is that's it's cashmere and $155. Unfortunately none of their cotton sweaters have the same lines. I don't even know where to look.
