J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. The Plaid front-pocket cardigan sweater (J6372) is super itchy and very large/boxy. I am normally a S in Tippis, M in Jackies if I want them to button without gapping. I sized down to an XS and was still swimming in it, width-wise.

  2. Well the extra percentage off sale is nice, but as expected anything I liked is now gone. I almost bought that Breton raincoat (desperately needed it seems) and added a bunch of other items that I don't REALLY need, and then by the time I checked out the raincoat was unavailable. Silly to use my extra 15% off card now.
Was tempted y the tropical floral blazer again but decided (as it's still about the same price at it was over the summer) not to get it. I'll just keep checking back on the rain coat. Sigh.

    1. Hi Suz - I tried that raincoat and was disappointed to find that there was no side entry on the pockets. If it's raining that much that I need a raincoat, I like to be able to stash my hands and wouldn't have been able to do that with this coat. Just an FYI ;)

    2. Too bad. I'm on the hunt for an attractive rain coat. I had a lovely red Michale Kors hooded trench that was a little dressy but did the job, plus it had a removable lining and hood...but eldest daughter took it. It's been so miserably rainy and a little cool for my more athleisure stuff but not cold enough for winter stuff. I'll keep searching

    3. I have two Penfield raincoats and I love them. Very durable!

  3. So happy to see %off sale! I placed an order but mostly for additional sizes of things I already bought but haven’t received. (Will need to ask about PAs) As Suz says, not much to buy but hoping other JCAs in need of bathing suits will help clear out the crazy amount of swimwear. I’m debating whether to keep the matching seersucker pants for my Parke blazer: I keep the blazer at work for emergency meetings and warmth, I never thought about a seersucker suit. I’m not opposed to it but I feel there’s limited use given NYC climate. My office does business casual in the summer so I don’t need a summer weight suit. Also it is the Bedford coal white print so wondering how much mileage I can get from white pinstripe pants if I wear as separates. Thoughts?

    1. looks like the Canadian site has increased some of the sale prices...so 40% off is what you would have paid yesterday. silly....really why?

    2. I noticed some raised prices. As a matter of fact, I was up at 4ish due to husband leaving early and looked, and as I clicked things went up in price.

    3. Hello JCAs,

I’ve been on a much-needed break from J.Crew since April and unfortunately that meant having to stay off of JCA as well so that I wouldn’t be tempted to go to the website too often. I’ve missed checking in and seeing all the fashion discussions and styling ideas! I’ve still been getting JCrew emails and decided to have a look at the sale section since it’s such a good % off. I was shocked at how little of it interested me, I wasn’t even tempted, with one exception. About a month ago (the last time I looked), the Eyelet-back Sweatshirt caught my eye, and was at quite a good price (I recall something in the $30 CAD range). Yet today, even with an extra 40% off it’s much more than that. Am I imagining things?

    4. Hi shopgrrrl (good to see you!) - I wondered the same thing. I think that JCA's were talking about the eyelet-back sweatshirt at a much lower price a few months ago, but couldn't find it searching the site. Maybe Cheri remembers? *puts out the JCA bat-signal*

    5. I got it for 14.99. (Returned though bc it looked horrible on me)

    6. Thanks so much silver_lining and eeps! This is why I’ve missed JCA so much, everyone is so kind and helpful! I only wish I could say the same about J.Crew at this point, but honestly, I can’t. This crazy price-switching with the sweatshirt (and other items, I’m sure) is just one sign that I don’t need to hurry back. But I’ll still pop back in to see what’s going on here from time to time! Thanks again!

    7. Hi ladies! I'm so impressed you remembered that! I also paid $14.99. It was only the navy that was on sale at that time for that price and it was for 1 or 2 days. My mom and I both love ours!

  4. I also ordered with % off and 15% coupon. After seeing the Liberty of London prices in the UK while on vacation, J Crew prices are more than reasonable. Ordered pjs in the new fall print. Since I’m wearing sneakers quite a bit after foot surgery, ordered New Balance 620 in marine salt. SZ Blockprints were a summer love for me, so ordered the espadrilles for next year. A few other miscellaneous items - cropped sweater cardigan in navy (love the stripe version of this and have worn many times) and blue floral pj bottoms. Noticed that prices have gone up on some items too. Not a good idea.

  5. swim suits are a real deal on the Canadian site. final sale though.
If I recall they were not that great. not surprised these are the item going for a song right now. they made way too many styles and the playa were really skimpy on the backside

  6. I was able to get a Signet bag for $34 after using my extra 15% off card. I didn't see anything else I had to have.

  7. OT but I just saw a Victoria Beckham outfit on IG that's similar to the wide wale corduroy pants andblazer, but in a blue gray color. Pants are full length. FWIW.

  8. Placed my first clothing order in a while late last night/early morning (ordered some third party personal/beauty items and undies for the kids during the last 40% off). Strange that they took several items off sale overnight. Grabbed the Armor rain jacket and a Drake pajama top, plus a couple pairs of shorts to try. Thankful for no final sale. Really didn’t ‘need’ anything, so will try to be brutally honest about what needs to stay/be returned when it arrives. Oh, and I snagged the Borg tote for $17; haven’t seen it it person, but I’m hopeful it will be cute IrL. I love leather, but find I carry a coated canvas bag from Tory Burch often because it’s so nice not to worry about it getting dirty or rained on a bit.

  10. Just made a return at Brookfield. The Daphne topcoat in green speckled tweed is back, along with a sunny yellow tweed version and a blue tweed version. Two new instarsia sweaters: a red cashmere one with a cherry print and a non cashmere one with “yes” printed in script. The green tiger silk pants are also there and a new navy/pink floral in easy pants and dress. Lots of ppl buying today because of the 40% off.

    1. First thought, is a "yes" sweater really in good taste?

  12. I just received the pull on velvet pant and I really like them. But, dry clean only. Any ideas for a way to launder them without dry cleaning? Front load washer on hand wash/lingerie bag? Thanks in advance.

    1. I was going to suggest the Woolite home dry-cleaning kit which I've used successfully for many dry clean only items - but then saw that they recommend against using it on velvet.

I have a steamer that I use to extend the time between cleanings for silk and wool items - maybe that would that help? Not sure about the impact of steam on the nap of velvet. I would suggest doing a small area that is not noticeable first - maybe the inside leg - to see if it affects the appearance.

    2. Thanks for the ideas, Toronto Mom.
