"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I wish their product descriptions did a better job with details, especially with inseam or length information. That's just basic with all other brands and seems crazy they don't regularly have that. And another pencil skirt, this time the embellished No 2, in no extended sizes including petite. Why? Pencil skirts are such a staple and don't lend themselves to length alterations, the full run of sizes should be offered, especially when the design is unique.

    1. In regards to pencil skirts, I hate how the new standard length seems to be 23-25 inches. This ends up being dowdy on me and as you stated no petites available and not easy to alter. I miss the old no. 2 pencil skirt that had beautiful prints and was perfect knee length with zero alterations.

    2. I miss the original pencil skirt (the one before the no. 2) - now that was flattering!

    3. I finally had to give my old pencil skirt up, there was no way I could squeeze myself into it anymore even if black is super slimming :-(

  2. Last email I sent to J Crew took 6 days for reply. by that time I had called CS and had matter straightened out. 6 days....previously it was with in 24hrs....and they didn't know the matter had been dealt with ?

  3. I thought I might stop into the big J Crew today and I called to see percent off clearance, they said it's nothing extra off...What a joke...it goes from 50 off to nothng...not going to waste my time now on that!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't get the reasoning on that. At least give 30% off clearance. Agree with you that it's a waste of time to even look at the clearance section now.

      Delete
    2. Yes. Shocked when visited Vancouver Robsen St store yesterday that there was zero extra % off the sale/ clearance section. So off the mark compared to competition . Most having generous 40 % or more off sale then often add an extra 20% discount. Eg Talbot's over the weekend.

  4. not loving the "new handbags" too small...but they are not in the Canadian stores yet so have not seen IRL. hoping the tote is not too small.

  5. It looks the 2 day shipping for rewards members was a one-time deal. I am still waiting on my order from last Tuesday. Even Walmart has free 2 day shipping.

    1. My orders are always shipped via UPS mail innovations, the slowest shipping method available. 😠

      Delete
    2. For some reason my orders are now being shipped via UPS then handed over to the post office for delivery. This has never happened before when I met the free shipping requirement or had the option to pay $3 more for ground shipping.

  6. Every time I ordered something from j crew it says free return and free shipping this summer. But now I am doing my first return by mail for the summer I noticed that there is not return label any more instead it says j crew charge 7.99 for each return?? Any one knows if they do charge you or not?

    2. Thanks p banos. I ended up returning them to store. This is my third return trip in one month but thankfully the associates didn’t say anything. If they ever say anything negative I probably will never shop that store again (this is why I end up never shop at loft anymore. )

      Delete
    3. Ha Ha, sometimes I send my hubs to make the returns. But actually I think the associates have been 100% nice about every return! It is me that feels naughty.

  7. I've liked all my clearance scores pretty much but I do have two vents.

Wrap-around sandals in paisley Are not leather. I guess I didn't read the description very clearly because who would have thought the leather part was fabric, but it is. For the clearance price they're fine and I like the style a lot, but I'm a little surprised.

Second is a shipping issue. My last order was supposed to have been delivered but I guess the UPS pick up point (who knew) is a local store that actually closed. One would think UPS would have figured that out but who knows where they will end up now. No major rush and I know it's not jcrews fault.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm confused...you thought the printed paisley fabric part was going to be leather? Also, if the pickup place was a store, how did UPS get the items to ship? Maybe I am in "first day of school" overload.

      Delete
    2. No on both counts.

There is a leather looking strap that the paisley fabric loops through. I have the leather wrap sandals from last year or the year before (and three of the boardwalk laceups from Madewell) and they're leather with a leather lace. I mistakenly thought these were leather with the fabric lace.

It wasn't ship to store, it was a delivery. I guess the local store (not a jcrew, a stationery store) is the drop off site (I've never heard of this) but the store closed. I'd assume UPS would have made alternate arrangements but this is a first for me, I read it on narvar tracking.

  8. Waiting even longer for Canadian orders now.10 days...I always forget what I ordered by then. Have otdeted items again...by accident.

  9. @Iris,Go to the returns page and read about shipping returns. Everything goes through Narvar and you must do the return via the new system. You must print your own return label from there. Those who are entitled to free shipping and free returns are eligible. You may also view it when checking out online when you order something. It will state both..

    1. Thanks Lynn! Good to know they still honor the free shipping! Will keep buying then....

  10. The order status is not updating for sure! I just received my black signet flap purse that is marked as *placed*. After 6 days without being marked shipped, I was so afraid that I would get the dreaded wish we had enough email that I ordered a second one...guess I should have called. Anyway, I have the same bag in green and find it is a perfect size for me. When I have a ton to carry I just take a backpack.

Oh my! I also received my Academy leopard calf hair loafers. I ordered them in my small size (9.5) which is a good thing as my regular (10) would have been too big. They are perfection! I have had my eye on them since they came out. I admit have pretty much every Academy loafer color, my favorite is the gold. The gold, the calf hair and the flannel fit a bit larger than the stiff leather.

Also received the red patent Evie ballet heels I was not absolutely not going to order. But now I will be doing the Judy Garland thing after all. These I have in size 10, and could probably have worn
10.5 as well. But the 10 is fine, especially if they give a tiny bit.

So sort of a vent that the status does not update, but more of a LOVE for the leopard Academy loafers.

Oh, and I ordered the Unisex 1989 anorak for my stepdaughters boyfriend. At $25 it makes a great gift. I am guessing the original price must have been more like $150?

Also got a slub cardigan , a bathrobe and a scarf for Mommy. Plus a cute red scarf for me to wear with the red Evie pumps I was not going to buy.

    1. You did great! It seems like for the most part, we are all pleased with our bargains.

Very happy the leopard academy loafers worked for you! I was happy with my slub cardigans, much nicer than the ones they replaced. The anorak makes a nice gift. I'm really enjoying finding the little goodies for others. I wanted to buy the anorak for someone, but could only come up with me, so I passed :)

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep the silk paisley maxi dress for $85. I stalked stalked stalked, it fits, but I know I'll only wear it a handful of times...Thoughts? (it's so pretty!)

      Delete
    2. Mommy liked the slub cardigan. Making her get rid of the horrid one she is always wearing.

That is a lovely dress. You almost need to make occasions to wear it. Would be perfect for dinners at a resort. I have a silk midi dress (not that nice though!) that I wore to get married in the Bahamas. And still cant find reasons to wear it - I guess that life has just become more casual. When I was little in the 1970s my parents went to so many parties, and Mommy would dress up.

You would really be keeping the dream...

      Delete
    3. What a good daughter?
Really? I thought it was casual enough to wear to casual dinner (which is all we do), so I figured I'd keep it :)
Now, please tell me I can dream about date night with a gorgeous dress, but still wear to casual early dinner where they have a good kids menu...

      Delete
    4. Yes you can wear that dress anyplace, and be the prettiest Mommy! (When I was little I loved seeing my mother get dressed. And now I dress her, go figure.)

Sometimes we go for coffee and tea or window shopping and make that into a date. Or a walk in the arboretum. So a date can be any time of day!

      What are your shoe choices?

  12. I've picked up a few sale items lately that I like. I ordered up a couple more perfect fit tees in periwinkle (my favorite color) for only $8 each, a couple pairs of tall Slim boyfriend jean in Shelton wash in the next smaller size as I've lost a little weight, the Liberty swirling petals popover, and the 2011 foundry pants in both camo and Spanish moss. I'd been considering the foundry pants for ages, after seeing Suz Has' Instagram post months ago and I'm glad I finally ordered them as I like the style. I'm also waiting for the slim perfect shirt in Liberty navy and white floral that was on backorder for a month and finally shipped last week via turtle.

    1. I love the Foundry pants, I have the green ones. I bought my usual 4 and find they fit great in a roomy way. I tried the 2 and they fit but were too short and I want the option to wear with flat boots not always cuffed. The green works with so many colors! I picked up pistachio and coral crop cardigans on the 1/2 sale that look good with that green. And I have the striped button neck turtleneck (somehow I bought it for $8.99 earlier in the summer!) which will be a natural with those pants.

Peri is one of my favorite colors too, but it is a hard one to find. I got hubs a great sweatshirt in Peri, he wears it to the gym all the time. (There was a womens crop sweatshirt in Peri which did nothing for me and went back)

  13. Went by Brookfield for a return and noticed a new arrival - velour pink leopard print. It comes in a shirt dress (I didn’t look closely so could also be a hook up) and pants. Velour plus pink plus leopard is way too Peggy Bundy for me. I noticed it on my way out because it was such a befuddling combo to see at JCrew.

  15. I posted last week looking for general return advice, as I'd bought a pair of pop-back size 12 Kenton Chelsea boots that were too tight; the reviews advising that they run big sadly did not hold true for me. I've been returning quite a bit lately due to sizing issues, and I was nervous that I might be coming perilously close to using up my "return quota."

At any rate, nobody responded to me here--which for some odd reason, seems to be par for the course (I promise that I shower before entering the site...)!

I didn't have the nerve to call the JCrew's overly-generous customer service people to arrange another return, so I slapped them up on the popular auction site...and to my pleasant surprise, sold them for substantially more than I paid!

File this one under: All's Well that Ends Well.

    1. if there was/is a return quota i would be red flagged for sure.
i didn't see your prev post but the general consensus for returns...is it all depends on who you speak with. i have had bad luck more than good luck. stuck with terrible ill fitting jeans...my lesson for this was never buy final sale...ever.

    2. @EveryMann,I always call my VPS and give her feedback and explain what is wrong with the item/items. I do the same with CS and ask them to notate my complaint.I have never had a problem. Be nice too, they have to deal with so much stress a little kindness goes a long way. Apologize for not seeing your post earlier.

      Delete
    3. I'm glad to hear you earned some extra coin!

    4. I would totally be flagged if there were a return quota. My return rate is about 55-65%. I also learned my lesson with final sale - never again. The times I've gotten away with a FS return was through my VPS and even then I got grief from her first and then again at the register when I did the physical return to a store. I've been lucky recently with being able to return non-final sale past the 60-day return window when I call CS first. I would never hesitate to call CS about a return, especially if it were a sizing issue (with poor reviews) or defective item. I once returned a pair of sandals after I wore them once because they made me bleed in multiple places. I called CS to complain - not even to ask for a return because I assumed it would not be possible - and CS pulled up the product info and told me they had gotten lots of complaints about those sandals and said they'd be happy to take them back for a full refund. So you never know unless you try! The trick is to be patient and nice.

    5. Thanks for your replies. Back @January/February when they were doing 50% off sale stuff seemingly forever with the "no returns on final sale" stipulation, I returned quite a few items and customer service never even wavered when I'd call in to request it. I'm nowhere near 55-60% on returns, so it seems my fears are unwarranted!

Pardon the potentially stupid question, but what is VPS?

      Thanks!

      Delete
    6. Totally unwarranted! Though I calculated my returns quote based on dollar spent not actual number of items. VPS - Very Personal Shopper.

I guess I should be happy if anything from ups Comes in one piece though. I just received a toilet that must have been dropped on our walk way out of the truck. Carefully packed and we opened it to find it cracked in several pieces, totally unsalvagable.

    1. Maybe you got a new UPS driver? Mine is a lovely man, but when he is not working I have all kinds of problems.

An *Access Point* is a local business that agrees (for $$ of course) to receive packages and then you pick them up there. But this should only be for packages that you have to sign for. It is a good idea if you happen to live in a neighborhood where leaving packages in view of the street = *free stuff* for everyone but you.

My stuff just gets left under the mailbox. Or when there is a large item my lovely UPS driver brings it to the side door.

      Delete
    2. I've gottten three other Jcrew packages this week (at least) so none of this makes sense. Can't deal with it today but hopefully by the time I can with will have worked itself out.

      Delete
    3. Suz Has - Based on my extensive experience with package deliveries, it looks to me like it was getting late, the driver wanted to go home and he just entered bs reasons for not delivering the remaining packages in his truck. I’ve seen “entrance was blocked” and “business was closed” for failures to deliver to my home, neither of which makes any sense. When I asked someone who works there, I was told that they’re supposed to enter a reason that makes it look like the failure is not UPS’s fault. USPS does the same thing and it annoys me to no end.

      Delete
    4. Same for fedex. I got this message: that my neighborhood too dangerous. I had in fact seen the driver parked in front of my building having a smoke earlier that day. Since others in the building had received their fedexes, I concluded that he had either dropped my package or left it on the truck. Had ridiculous discussion of danger with phonebot, concluding by me yelling YOUR WEBSITE SAYS YOU DELIVER TO AFGHANISTAN. THIS IS THE UPPER EAST SIDE.
