J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Collection Floral Jacquard Painter pencil skirt - Wow! Puuurty. Hope someone buys it w the 40%...
Is jacquard really made of poly?

    Some cute stuff.
No theme or cohesion. (Not surprised)
Some said it looks Madewell. I agree.
Still not feeling some of the Point Sur...prairie chic. No.
Some of the styling is still a hot mess...
Like that beautiful jacquard coat with the silver booties..😑

    1. Ten pages of nothing I need and no must haves for me.
A lot of styling and fits that don't look great to me either. The silver booties with the jacquard coat COULD work, but the cut of those jeans doesn't work with the booties. The minute she takes a step you know the jeans are going to go inside the top of the boots. That's an odd choice, but I guess they used the silver mules enough elsewhere.

    2. I like the idea of the painter pencil skirt but the top of it is weird. I'm sure it depends on the print on each skirt but I can do without the splotches of gold near the thigh area. In the product photos, the splotch in the back looks like she sat in gold paint.

    3. “Jacquard” is the name of the man who invented the Jacquard loom, which produces the jacquard-woven fabric commercially. It was invented long before the invention of polyester. I’ve seen beautiful Jacquard silks, woolens, cottons etc.

Agree about the placement of the design and the gold paint, can’t belive some deliberately decided to do that.

  2. So much velvet again! I just can’t get on board with it even if it is on trend. Another rollout where I added zero to my wishlist. The items I did like were poly or sweaters with terrible blends that I know will not last.

  3. hoping for new coats. not a fan of the chateau parka. have two cocoon coats from yrs past. did received the croc navy patent crossbody bag. too small but the colour is nice.
the new hoodies are too cropped. same with some of the sweaters.
agree no cohesion...please stop with all the point sur...IMO this line should be at Madewell.

  4. This might be my imagination but I feel that since Factory started using Mercantile tags in the clothes that the quality has gone way down. I was therethe other day and all the stuff with Mercantile tags felt super duper cheap. Anyone else have thoughts?

    1. Mercantile is definitely trash, even on sale. Also, the sizing is usually off.

  5. Didn't see anything I wanted either. Point Sur meh. Also have been wanting a pair of 4" inseam shorts for next summer and they are still full price in late September!

For the JCA historians: Does anyone remember this skirt?
I've seen every catalog since about 1997 and have no memory of that skirt (looks interesting though).

  6. sitting out this roll out. why do they do a big update to sale page on same day as new arrivals. like I have alot of "extra time " to presue both. silly IMO.

  7. Underwhelmed this go around. I was sad to see that some of the chunky sweaters are a blend - was really hoping since some of the Point Sur items have been 100% cotton, etc that the sweaters wouldn't be blends but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    I echo the velvet statement..

I'd also really like to see some new styles and colors rather than re-releasing items in the same colors (ie velvet Parke blazer). There's one new color but I have the rose one from last season...give me some new shades or new items! This seems so lazy to me - redoing items in the same colors and often at lesser quality.

I did finally bite the bullet and order a few basics with the 40% off and the skimm code was stacking. Finally got the going out blazer in black, the tie neck 365 top, camel regent and trying the knot front black top. Regent and tie neck top are backordered until January, hoping for sooner shipping.

    1. can i ask what the skimm code is... because everytime i try it, it doesn't work.

    2. THESKIMM is the code I used for an extra 20% off

    3. is there a minimum purchase amount? because it doesn't work for me with $56 in my cart

    4. I'm not sure, I saw it floating around the blog and tried it. Maybe there were exclusions? And the expiration date was initially stated as the 18th but I was able to use a few days ago.

    5. I tried using THESKIMM this morning with about $125 in my card and it did not work. However, it worked on 09/22 (Saturday). I'm guessing it has expired??

    6. I purchased on the 23rd so it must have expired since then. I think cardperks is still stacking if you are using your card for an extra 15% off

    7. It stopped working after the 16th, then mysteriously it was working on the weekend. But not on Monday. CS said it was expired, but I ordered boots for my Mom and t-shirts for Hubs off clearance with it. I did test it out with the 4-items 40% and it stacked, but there was actually nothing in the roll-out I wanted even at 52% off... Instead I found two 'new' Schoolboys on Poshmark and now I've got cute blazers for the Fall. I fit better in cropped blazers than longer ones.

  8. Looked at some of the new items yesterday in a Vancouver Cda store. The velvet fabric (eg wrap dress, elastic waist skirt and easy pant) is a viscose/poly blend and looks shiny/lumpy. On me it would be unflattering, add bulk. Plus I don't own a steamer to make it look sleek.
Disappointed with the sweater offering. A 22" crop length on a number of items and bad blends. "Supersoft" code for acrylic/poly/nylon content. Why can a chunky sweater in the men's line be made of merino and priced around $118 Cdn, yet the women's side gets so many synthetics blend sweaters. Contrary to one item description, I will not be "reaching for the chunky knit year after year" because it will be pilled after a few outings.
The fabric of the ponte sleeved dress in burgundy and black felt very stiff and heavy. A more armoured look, no drape.
Uninspired roll out with too much velvet, Point Sur and one season wonder pieces. I'm waiting in hopes of inspired JCA's pointing out the possibilities of any hidden gems lurking in the roll out.

  9. I am overall uninspired by the rollout but I bit in a few things just to try, since the discount at 40% + 15% was so good. A Cocoon coat (probably too boxy but that dark green got me!), the croc pointed-toe loafers, the plaid cardigan (looks itchy), and a ride-along turtleneck. I have a low return threshold but hopefully something will be an unexpected winner!

I already have both the pant and button down of the cheetah print on their way to me from earlier orders. More excited about those!

I would have loved to see more abstract prints, tweed, flannel, and outerwear. I expect they'll come in more winter-oriented roll outs, with the exception of the prints. But I wish they were here now, and the velvet was saved for holiday.

Also the sale section was over 2k items at one point with absolutely nothing I wanted!

    1. Had the same thought this morning: 2000 in sale and not a thing to buy!

  10. Did you ladies see the news about J.Crew opening a new brand for a younger audience?

    1. If "young" means boxy and cropped and made with cheap materials to justify the price point then no thank you. Although maybe then J. Crew will be able to focus on its more classic pieces?

    2. The most interesting tidbit from the article i thought was how the new CEO says it's important to maintain the separation betwen JC and Madewell. It doesn't seem to be going like that right now!

    3. Thanks for sharing!

I think it's an interesting idea, depending on just how "young" they mean - a trendier J. Crew or one that's almost geared towards teens? If the former, I'd be interested in checking out their offerings.

Isn't there a new designer coming in too who used to work at Anthropologie? This gave me some hope for the main brand.

  11. I'm sorry J Crew but this is the worst fall roll out I have seen, and the preceding roll out was not much better. I loved some of the beautiful fall colors I saw at Anthropologie this week and some inspiration at Nordstrom, but J crew you have lost your game.

  12. The only items that interest me from this rollout are the pajamas. Thank goodness J Crew still offers their classic pajamas and I like the new colours.
