J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. There is a small section of new arrivals over at the factory website today. There is a dupe of the rugby shirt if you missed it at retail. $29.50 today and all cotton.

    1. Wow, it looks better than the retail one. Has the more traditional white collar (vs. the pale pink one on the retail navy one), and sleeves all the way to the wrist.

  2. I received the Factory Caryn cardi in dark peony, which is a lovely deep fuchsia. BUT, it's tissue-thin and the arms are disproportionately skinny, so it's going back. *sigh*

I've had very little luck with JC or Factory this year. I began 2017 with a goal of shopping less -- so I guess I did achieve that, though not necessarily the way I would've planned. Several other JCAs had similar resolutions to slow their shopping. I'd be interested to hear how that turned out!

  3. Haven't received them yet (on back order until April) but the Jackie cardigans in Black and Indigo are available in plus sizes!!!!

    1. I actually saw about a month ago that the field jacket had grayed out boxes in plus sizes. Smart move for jcrew! Tap into a new potential market is a great strategy.

  4. There's been a lot of chatter about the embroidered rose tee, mostly that it's bizarrely back-ordered online since the Black Friday promos even though it has shown up in full size runs in stores. I just received mine and I am disappointed - anyone else? I didn't realize the "embroider" was a ribbon sewn onto the shirt - I thought it was actual embroidery. And even though the material of the shirt was thick cotton, the cut and finish reminded me of the old American Apparel T-shirts. Online it looked more white/brighter than it is "natural" - more like a beige color. Beige and black - not the most holiday color combos. I know this is a lot of criticism for a tee shirt - I mean, it's a tee, no one is reinventing the wheel here - but that's exactly the problem. $39.50 for a simple tee - I think I could have made the same thing using a Hanes shirt, a piece of ribbon and a sewing machine.

    1. Hi eeps - this tee was a "reissue" of the wildly popular ringspun chiffon graphic tee from 2008 (which was not from Holiday '08, more like October). Anyway, this is another example of the Copywriter from Space at work - don't call it embroidery if it's not embroidered.

    2. Yeah, I saw it in store and didn’t like it

  5. I remember that tee - and I remember the description of that tee being accurate (and the material being kind of sheer, and the fit being kind of lean/form fitting/feminine). This tee it is not!

  6. I find it so amazing that only a few days before a Christmas there are so few new reviews!

  7. I’m loving my new sperry duck boots. Not the most fashionable but oh so practical for this new mom and lugging around a baby carrier on snowy sidewalks. I love the all cream version which keeps them somewhat feminine and good for pairing with lots of tops and jeans. They are very warm too. Can’t wait to get my new parka in olive to go with the boots. Should arrive tomorrow. I’m also thinking of ordering the feather necklace. So cute in white!

    1. I have them from last year in the gray wool with black rubber and red laces. I love them. Super comfortable. I have been wearing them to the gym everyday (I work out barefoot).

  8. Brooklyn sweatshirt is going back reluctantly. I love the French terry, the gray color is perfect as is the lettering but...the sleeves are too short! Not 3/4, bracelet, or full length- just that awkward not quite even at the wrist bone length. I'm trying to be more thoughtful in my purchasing so items will need to earn their place and sadly this just doesn't cut it.

  9. Just received the academy loafers in calf hair. These are gorgeous. The sole is leather and the calf hair is soft. It does run large - I’m usually a 7 and the 6.5 is a just a bit big. I’d exchange for a 6 but it’s out of stock now, so a simple heel grip should suffice. Very happy otherwise!

  10. Open-front sweater blazer (G7746) - Once they released this in navy and the 40% off applied last week, I ordered it. Love the milano-knit wool; it feels just like my old Sophie sweater-jacket from old school 'Crew. I can see why people would waffle on sizing down but I think I'd keep my usual S and have it be more relaxed. It's the first time I've been excited about a JC purchase in a while! ...until I reached down and felt the @#$%^&! store security tag affixed to the hem. Arrrrrgh!

    1. I have four of the ones that button and love them. They wear beautifully and look great over everything. I hope once the security tag is off it's a love for you too!

  11. I completely forgot I ordered it but one of my back ordered funnel neck tops has shipped. The other is expected 1/12.

  12. If anyone is looking for the embroidered star tippi that is sold out online, the Brookfield store has a full size run.
Also spotted in my trip there: a new Drake popover! Black background with a lot of green. I didn’t take a long look at the pattern but it looks like the orange silk pattern from fall but in a different color way. Too bad the popover is not silk. It was cotton or a blend and sheerish. $120.

  13. Anyone ever get an email for $25 off no minimum purchase? The closest location to me closed and as a parting gift (so they call it) I got the email. No barcode or unique code to show in store. I barely needed to show the associate my phone, she knew what the promo was right away. I was able to stack it with the 40% off, making for a really sweet deal. But doesn't this mean that someone can use this coupon repeatedly?

  14. Brooklyn sweatshirt- I tried it on very quickly after it arrived. My initial thoughts are I like the grey color, the letters look good, it's 100% cotton (which I really like), the length isn't short and it's comfy. I ordered my usual XS (have the NY sweatshirt in XS too) and it fit tts for me, not snug, still a bit slouchy. The sleeves are not full length on me (same as on the NY one) but it looked ok. Will likely keep as I've been living in cozy sweats after I get home from work lately.

Oversized (deck striped) turtleneck - the heather pink/burgundy colourway looks fresh and will be good for spring too. The pink is def heathered with white specks (as the name says, I just didn't notice it on my monitor). I sized down to Xxs (I'm usually XS sometimes small) which is fine for the body but the arms are snug. I don't think I'd want the body any looser but I think the arms would be better/less snug in XS. I'm going to try it on again as I really don't feel like trying to exchange sizes (such a pain in Canada). I really like the longer length which doesn't feel long on me at 5'7".

  15. The men's 770 straight Bedford cord cabin pant item E4173 is a winner. Great fit, slim not skinny and true to size. The olive green color is rich and deep and the soft camo flannel is a winner, warm and cozy. Order them two inches longer than the usual inseam so they can be turned up to show off the flannel lining.

Also picked up the new Ludlow Slim-fit pant in stretch chino item F4031, formerly known as the Bowery slim, again great fit and the stretch make them a winner. True to size and a nice go to pant for work.

Wallace & Barnes workwear pant in twill item G8214 was the third one ordered and also true to size and a wee bit fuller than the previous two. Soft grey fabric and a nice change from slim denim I usually reach for on the weekend.

The Ludlow slim was the slimmest then the 770 and finally the Wallace and Barnes pant. Check out my instagram for photos and how I style them.

    2. Thank you for the reviews! I do shopping for my hubby and really appreciate it.
Tubby cat with white paws look like a copy of my cat Pixie, boy cat that was sold to us as a girl and named as a girl before we realized it’s a boy.

  16. Anyone receive a gift from JCrew in the mail today? I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but it’s cute... I have to admit I was surprised to receive it given all the negative press / store closings. JCrew never ceases to surprise me!

  18. If anyone was hoping for the Pleated Lace Top, it's available at Nordstrom, and marked down by 40%. Will arrive by Christmas eve. Same applies for a lot of other items too. HTH!

  19. The Skier Pajamas arrived and they are very cute. The skier is not embroidered (it would fabulous if they were but I was not expecting that) and they are soft. I did not pay anything close to full price and don't they are worth $95 but for what I paid, I am happy with them.

    1. Glad you like them. Your comments are part of what makes me sad about J.Crww these days, though... "Not expecting that" and not worth anything close to full price.

  20. After waiting weeks for two sizes of the Tartan Cameron pants, trying them on multiple times over the past week and even putting them on for work today, I ended up changing and think I will return. I know someone else here mentioned something similar but I feel like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack in them. I think it is the color and scale of the plaid. Sad to return them but I have a few winter plaid items from Brooks Brothers Red Fleece that I like so much better and they fit better. I give up as they are the only thing I purchased besides the Paisley pull on pant.

  21. Received my pecan Nordic boots in the mail today & they're all kinds of wonderful! I literally stalked the website on Sunday when I was working in the ER for my size. If anyone is eyeing them, you can definitely find nab your size if you keep pressing refresh.
