J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Denim not included in promo, boo.

    2. I ordered a bunch of sale items. Including the sateen jeans which were included in promo. Lots of little jewelry items for my girls and the star print ex boyfriend shirt which I asked about below but both liked so I ordered although its final sale.

  2. These daily deals are such a snooze this week.

  3. Has anyone tried the Madewell oversized Amex-boyfriend shirt in star mix? Reviews are pretty good but I haven't seen it IRL. I wanted to get for my girls and myself, we all love stars.

    1. EX boyfriend, not AMEX boyfriend. 😂 autocorrect.

    2. That shirt is so cute!! Too bad it’s final sale. I am very tempted.

    3. I know...I hate final sale but both older girls seemed excited by it. I ordered two XS and one S. I figure because my middle DD is about 5'11" she may want to size up, if not I'll take the S. I assume I'll mostlywear it casual with jeans but if it looks polished enough I'll try it with black pants and gold or my sequin heels.

    4. I hope it works for you and your daughters. If all 3 of you dress up in this shirt but have different hats or scarfs it would make a cool family pic. Do you mind reporting back when you get it? If its still available I might get it. Thank you!

    5. Not sure if this is true for all stores but the two Madewell stores I shop accept returns on final sale items with no questions.

  4. WTH? I had the charcoal grey V-neck pocket tunic in my cart and this morning it has been replaced with the camel one! So....because the grey has sold out the Crew is making the decision that I'll be happy with the camel one? I'm getting tired of these games.

  5. I'm finding myself strangely fixated on a pair of gold loafers I saw at Saks Off 5th last night. For those of you that have J.Crew gold loafers from the past few seasons, can you comment on whether you're wearing them as much as you'd anticipated when buying them?

    1. I can't speak to gold loafers in particular but I do have several pairs of gold shoes - the tassel d'orsay flats and the crackle bow flats from this past spring and I find that they get a ton of wear. I find them to be a good neutral - I think the trick is that they need to not be an obnoxious shade of gold but they can be a perfect kick to a neutral outfit and I love coordinating a few pieces of simple gold jewelry.

    2. Makes me want a pair too when I saw Jenna Lyons wore a pair of the gold Biellas with khaki pants, a khaki fatigue style button -up shirt, and a cobalt blue one button coat. 💙

    3. @JSR I saw that image of Jenna as well last nine night, it certainly helped sell me on the idea!

    4. I wear my cracked gold flats often. They are the Anne Klein Ovi ballet flat, love these shoes for work. Anyway, I agree with Anne and wear them as a not in-your-face pop.

    5. I have several pairs of metallic flats from Coach (gold, pewter, silver) that I keep at my desk. They get constant wear and I treat as a neutral.

    6. Just ordered the Ella pumps in blush gold. Hopefully they will be versatile.

    7. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, very much appreciated!

    8. I just got the crackled gold loafer mules. I quickly tried them with a few things and like them with ankle length black pants and darker rolled denim. I also think they'd look great with olive green but I got rid of all my olive green pants. Oops. I also like gold with charcoal gray. I don't wear much color so that's all I got.

  6. I had an older pair that I eventually wore out. I wore mine quite a bit.

  7. I've worn my gold crackle bow flats quite a bit. I think the key is that they are a little more bronze and matte than bright light gold metallic.

  8. I received my j crew factory daisy cardigan F3301. Very pleased with the item. It is final sale I ordered xs and s. I like them so much decide to keep both.

  9. Here's my 2 cents on the tartan maxi skirt. I ordered size small. I'm 5'9" and with flats it sweeps the ground a bit. I tried it on with 2" heels and that fixes the problem, but I personally don't like how it looks with heels. Size small is too big in the waist for me, but since it's pull on (no zipper) a size x-small may not go over my hips. I don't like the bunchy, thick drawstring gathered waist or the cheap looking "velvet" ribbon. Just makes my waist look thick. On me it sits high on the waist adding to the look of wearing a big bedspread. The first row of gathered tier hits me in a weird spot too. The fabric is very heavy (this skirt weights ALOT) and nice, but overall it felt like I was dragging a bedspread around with me when I walked. I was excited for something new to wear to parties, but the mood has passed and I'll be wearing my tried, true and trusted OLD Crew things. Bah Humbug.

    1. Interesting. I appreciate the skirt but knew it was way too specific for me.

    2. And I'm trying to piece together festive outfits using mostly what I have and add some glittery shoes and accessories. I'll have to dress up a few times but different crowds.

    3. I second your opinion of the maxi Stray Cat. I found it too large in the waist but tight through the hips. It was also far too long on my 5”5” frame and would have required extensive hemming. I also found it to be very heavy...too heavy to drape well imo. For some reason, I also thought the weight didn’t lend itself to the more casual styling featured in the catalog and web site. Others will make it work but it’s not a match for my shape or lifestyle at any price.

    4. JA.....I felt it would be so cumbersome to wear. I have several maxi skirts and I love them, but the tartan one is so heavy and full it really felt uncomfortable. It just didn't make me happy...boo hoo.

    5. Suz.....I'm with you. Just mixing up what I have with new sparkles and accessories will do the job. Even with nothing new I'll still be nicer dressed than most folks at the parties I'm attending!

    1. When I ordered these in two sizes before Thanksgiving they were backordered until 12/4. I have not received a shipping notice yet.

    2. Really bummed I missed these and I have been checking obsessively for popbacks, and now I know why there haven't been any! No one's gotten the ones they ordered yet so there's been no returns! What is up with the inventory!?

    3. I'm also anxiously awaiting mine. I haven't received a shipping email yet.

    4. I emailed CS. They replied and apologized for the delay, said I'm still on the waitlist and they don't have an update as of yet on timing. :/

  11. I have never ordered from factory before but I have an old black crew fedora I love, and I just picked up a gray one from factory for $16 and change shipped. That is my cheap thrill for the day. Hey, at least I kept it in the family :)

  12. I reviewed the v neck pocket tunic on the previous thread. It's the same material as madewell's Kent cardigan, which pills like crazy. Nice fit, slightly oversized, but not a must have. Keeping mind because i got a good price and it's a nice casual top.

  13. Ugh, I was so excited to catch a popup of Gingham Ankle-wrap flats during the Black Friday promo, but they are just so fiddley! I love, love, love the sequined gingham toe and heel, but I feel like the overall effect is ruined by all that grosgrain ribbon. Did anyone else have the same problem with these shoes?

    1. I actually love the ribbon; adds a nice feminine touch and I like the look of a wrap around in spring and summer. I also have the denim version too and happy with both. Maybe try them with a few outfits, if you haven't already, and see what you think.

  14. finally got my white wine T, took almost 2 weeks, but it's cute and the tartan shipping envelope is rather adorable.
TBH I wouldn't have paid full price for it but at 40 off it's worth it
    as was the Chocoholic T

    1. I'm waiting for the champagne tee, rose tee and sequin tee. I hope they ship soon!

    2. Has anyone ordered and received the rose tee yet? When I check the pick up in store option, it appears it is now available at the store. Wonder why mine hasn't shipped yet and still says 12/19?

  15. I'd love to able to review the merino v-neck sweater with drawstring sleeves in heather orchid that I ordered on November 24, but I just got the dreaded "We wish we had enough" email. Aargh!!! It took them two weeks to figure this out? I guess I'll have to find another Christmas present for my Mom. Thanks, J Crew.

  16. Silk twill top in bold paisley- I ordered my usual sz in silk tops and i think that was the right call. I’m small chested so I find it a touch loose through the body but a size down might be tight in the shoulders. It’s very pretty, i really like the print and the colours are more vibrant IRL. I prefer the front tucked in as it looks a bit boxy on me untucked. The length is ok (5’7”) at least it’s not short. The silk is lightweight. I really don’t need another silk shirt but I really like the print and will keep it.

    1. Jan, did you find the sleeves a little short? I received my top the other day and am wondering if the sleeves are supposed to be bracelet length or if my arms are just too long! I agree with you, I don't need another silk top but will probably keep it as I love paisley.

    2. Hi shopalot, the sleeves were a bit above my wrists as well. Looking at the model shot I think they are supposed to be bracelet length. I’m going to try it on again when I have time but my first impression was that I loved the print and colours.

    3. Thanks, Jan. I also did not realize it zips up the back and then has the keyhole opening. Doesn't say anything about a zipper in the description.

  17. Received the leopard print tee yesterday. The ringer collar is definitely navy and the background of the print is a lot lighter than it appears on my monitor. It's a cute tee and fits just slightly larger than usual. Good length, too. Was really worried it was going to be super short like others have been in the past. Keeping it!

  18. Cross posted in today'S "looking to love" thread.
Posting some new reviews/will cross post in the reviews section.

I received the Cableknit sweater with Fair Isle. Size XS. this is the ivory with red version. (And the dark color is navy, I was hoping it was black). Since it's a lose fit I ordered an XS. I often size up to Small. I don't mind the fit, it's loose and slouchy. The color and pattern are nice. It would look great with distressed denim and red shoes . My issue, it reminds me of old navy sweaters I bought a few years ago for 1/3 the price. It's a great casual sweater but even with the black Friday promo I feel like I should be paying $25-35 less for this material. At most. Maybe it's me.

I also received the Madewell high rise skinny sateen jeans. I ordered two sizes and got the smaller first (it's the same size I just took in Madewell skinnies and JCrew toothpick.) they fit but run a bit small. I actually think the fit is really nice. I don't get "sateen" though. They just seem like a smooth black cotton. (Maybe that's what sateen is, I assumed there would be a bit more sheen). They may be a lint magnet. Since i just got other black denim from Madewell I don't really need them, but if the fit works well on the larger size I may keep them because they are very flattering and can sub for dressier pants as needed.
Pics to come on IG @wearthislikethis.
Lighting is difficult at night and the pics I took look terrible.
