  1. All this coat talk this week got me excited to pull out my old JC coats! Some of my favorites are the sandstone boulevard trench, navy wool duffle with Thinsulate, and the boulevard trench in windowpane wool that I finally got last year after stalking eBay forever.

Ruffles, I saw you mentioned the Harriet coat - that was a good one, too. I sold mine in a coat purge 5 years ago (*hides*) and am kicking myself now!

    1. Yes, silver_lining! I do love most of my J Crew coats but the Harriet was one of my absolute favorites.

    2. JCrew really does make great coats! i too love the boulevard trench and often wear it, it still looks new!
Another oldie that I love is my Dani stadium cloth pea coat in ivory, so beautiful but I don't wear it a lot because of the light color. I remember paying around $180 US after Christmas sales back then when Jcrew didn't do a ton of sales.

  2. Just putting this here so I don't forget - Fab Life Anne, the pink wool trousers I ordered from Factory came yesterday. I ordered a size up as all of Factory's wool pants have been running small. I should have stuck with my regular size! They're BEAUTIFUL pants - color is exactly like the stock photo - but loose. The inseam also seems longer than 33" to me - I could easily wear them with a 3" heel. Just FYI!

    1. Taylor, thanks for the feedback! I almost always have to order a size up in their wool pants so good to know :)

  3. I just received the Sammie cords in chai and navy, and the colors are so. beautiful. The chai is a perfect deep, rich brown with a hint of golden, and it goes with both black and navy (key), and the navy surprised me, it's a really beautiful inky dark blue, not your average navy. They fit well and I want to keep them, but I'm not sure if the 'kick out' is flattering. Thoughts? I'm tall and I ordered the tall, so I think I have my right size. I really like how it looks from the side, in heels, but my concern is from the front if it just looks a bit frumpy. And or will look super dated in a year's time and I'll regret having bought two pairs?

    1. I have the Sammie cord in chai on my wishlist but I was just thinking yesterday that maybe it's not a good idea to buy it because I might not like it when I pull it out of my trunk next year. Not this year, but next year. I actually don't care if it's out of style, but I was walking around yesterday in the brandy color Teddie pants and I was thinking: "Do I really like these pants? I'm unsure about this material and this kick thing." My thinking about Teddie made me think a bit more about Sammie.
I don't think this color is new because I have a pair of full length cord trousers from JC from a few years ago and the color is quite similar. It goes with so many colors and it isn't a generic brown. This just reinforces how incredible JC is with color.

    2. I'm 5'9", late forties, size 12. Personally I'm happy to see the kick back again as to me it feels a bit more elegant and balanced than a slim/skinny pant with heels. I don't have the Sammies, but I like the look and feel like I could wear it comfortably. As long as the pants fit well and you aren't wearing frumpy shoes, I doubt it would look frumpy.

    3. thanks st and shopgrrrl! I like the elegant description, but I just tried them on again, with heels and flats, and it's exactly what you say st, I'm not sure I like them. I WANT to like them. They fit well and they seem really well made and then I put them on and I find myself questioning if they're too short, if they just look accidentally misfitting ... I think this weekend I'll try them on with all my shoes and if I find a pair they look good with I get to keep them right?

    4. Hi all, I also bought the navy samies! I am 5.3, and bought the talk in size 2 and 4. I heard they ran small, but 2 fit very well and came to my ankle. Size 4 had a crutch, but fill was similar. I tied them with 2inches wedges ( not a flats girl), they looked nice, but I am not sure. They are shorter then my full length pants. Will need to try them with booties and see how they work. I also bought navy suede pants on sale over the summer and they are cropped. Look great with heals, but not sure what to do for fall or winter. They are beautiful but challenging item...any thoughts welcomed

    5. Kate tayban, I have navy cropped suede pants and here are some options @ Nordstrom. I love to pair navy with black or another neutral.

Steve Madden 'Emotions' Stretch Over the Knee Boot
Nine West Lettie Peep Toe Boot

If you don't want to wear a boot style, I've worn them casually with my J Crew NB sneakers; I live in Texas, so we don't have harsh winters. Good luck!

    6. I have the Sammies and love, love, love them. Even if I don't care about the cut next year, I will have certainly gotten my cost/wear very low. I find that they don't look good with heels on me. I wear them with flats, which is nice because it makes a casual pant option over dark jeans. I will keep trying them with heels, but so far none have looked good and I'm ok with that. I'm 5'1" with a slightly longer inseam for my height...but I'm still short. lol

  4. This is a partial 'Love/Review' but yesterday I bought the Star-Embroidered Tippi (at FP, with a 15% Bounce card) because I loved it on sight, and also because I was relieved it felt like last year's Tippis. Personally, I found that the last batch of Tippis (not from this week's rollout, but from an earlier one this fall) seemed tighter in the arms than usual. I tried on a Heather Elm Tippi that was on sale in my store, in my usual Regular size, and my arms felt like little sausages. The Star Tippi in the same size did not have this issue at all, and it fit me like last winter's Tippis. Navy and Gold is color combo that I really like so i was pleased with everything about this particular sweater. Other specialty Tippis haven't resonated with me as much/at all, so I'm very happy with this sweater and can't wait til it's Fall again here in NYC. Recommend/love.

    1. The star Tippi is beautiful - thanks for the review. I did not have time to try on anything when I visited yesterday. It was just a quick run in to pick up a catalog. I also had trouble with super tight sleeves with a few colors of the earlier Tippi. The sweater was large in the body but super small in the shoulders/arms. Let's hope the problem is fixed now.

  5. I finally pulled the trigger on one of the Drake silk shirts. I bought the pink one with the tigers. Figured I would either love it or hate it. I do love it and will keep it. Plan to wear it with white wool pants over the holidays and an old gold 60's vibe belt. It will also look good with gray wool so I am hoping to pick up a pair at the Clearance Store for not a lot of cash in the coming weeks.

  6. I've been loving my long downtown field jacket. It's been in the low 50s and rainy the last few days and this jacket has been perfect. I took a size medium and I can still layer under it and it holds up well in the rain. I love the hood! Really glad I grabbed this one.

    1. I bought jacket in green when the glitch happened & very happy with it too! Fit is tts & with the cooler temps coming, it's perfect for the transition. Also loving the flannel Cabernet excursion vest (tts) & the Collection double faced cashmere top in camel (sized up 1) Also, highly recommend Le Sirenuse caftan (tts). I have the tunic in red, so I was already a fan. The blue patterned caftan has beautiful colors; there's a lovely green pattern down the center that I didn't notice in the photo. This will work great as a cover up but also paired with cotton wide leg pants I bought while in India. Will work well when I visit again next year. Finally, the Diamond tweed coat wasn't one of my favs because of the fabric; everything else was lovely (color, design, style). The glitch price has made it a non issue. Plus, it arrived with buttons still wrapped in tissue paper, so it's never been handled...another plus.

  7. I love that the chat feature has set hours. I don't know when they implemented that, but I do recall when the chat feature was hit-or-miss. Yay for 8a - 11:59p EST!

  8. My Cafe Capris are still the best pants I own. They are a perfect fit and they're old but never out of style. I always feel good wearing these.
