Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Spotted several BR items at my local TJMaxx. Mostly fall blazers, also faux leather pants. I've seen Athleta at TJM before, but this is the first I've noticed BR there.

  2. Lands' End is looking for a new CEO. Interesting stuff - I haven't purchased from them in a very long time and was originally excited to see they were relaunching Canvas - but it wasn't anything like the old Canvas and much more JC Collection. Wonder where they'll go from here.

    2. Good article. I'm disappointed to see Federica Marchionni go. I got a Lands' End catalogue yesterday - saw a few things that looked good and was hoping to continue to see more fashion forward items with good quality and fit. I think the article is right on about the need for higher end/quality basics.

    3. I think if somebody can crack the quality basics code they'll do very well. I really liked LE's first iteration of Canvas (2010) and bought quite a lot from them - cotton/spandex cardigans, cashmere tees, dresses, denim, etc. I have several pieces that I still wear regularly. Then they must've changed designers and everything got super boxy and it was all downhill from there - however, I don't think that the quality suffered then, just the design. If I knew that one day the line would just disappear, I would've purchased more.

    4. Funny you should post this now, I just pulled out an old Canvas cardi to wear for the first time since spring. It's an incredible cashmere cardigan, lightweight without being sheer, no pilling after at least 4 seasons of wear. I was wishing I had more of them, and remembering how I took myself off the LE email list last year when they re-launched Canvas and it had become something else. I was a loyal LE customer for 15 years (my first purchase was a diaper bag the day after my son was born), but it just felt like there wasn't anything there for me anymore. Today is my day to unpack all of my sweaters and put away all of my summer clothes, and I'll be taking a closer look at my old LE and Canvas pieces to see how they're holding up.

  3. Shopbop is having their sale and that includes some of the Madewell handbags that don't often go on sale at Madewell. I'm not sure what their inventory is like but thought I'd mention it. Have a great weekend!
