J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I have some J Crew reviews here and some Madewell Reviews here

  2. Morrocan Tile Maxi Dress (Madewell #C6362). I tried this in two sizes and in both it was tight in the chest on the outsides, not quite under the arms but close. It's all polyester, but it's a fun print and it felt good on. I would have bought it if it fit me better (I'm pretty average in the chest, for reference). I don't think the straps were adjustable, but I suppose they could be cut in the back and re-sewn to be straight rather than crossed. Too much trouble for me, and I liked the crossed strap look in the back. I think it was kind of sheer but I was going to use it as a cover-up/beach dress.

  3. A few reviews from J.Crew's recent 50% off sale sale are here. Also, a review of the Flea Market Flares from Madewell, which just didn't work for me.

    1. Great reviews! Thanks! That skirt is cute on the hanger - but does make me wonder just what sorts of body types J Crew designs for? Loose waistbands, tight upper hip? Strange! I've had the same problem.

    2. The Ladder Stitch Shell is so pretty. Thanks for all the reviews!

  4. OT, but I really miss seeing Liberty prints at Jcrew!

    1. Me too, but I couldn't justify any more button ups in floral prints :) I'd love if they'd make a structured sleeveless top or a tunic style with a Liberty print.

    2. Yes! Really, really miss seeing all of the beautiful Liberty prints.

    3. I was just thinking about that yesterday! This summer lack of popovers and liberty prints :(

    4. Liberty Collaboration was when J. Crew was at its best. I loved those prints and most of what they were doing that summer.

  5. Hi all, first time commenting but I've been lurking here for awhile and have used your helpful comments + reviews as a reference many a time. :) There's a Collection skirt out right now that finally got me to cave and open a card, so I thought I would review it for you all. I submitted a review on the site as well but will be more wordy and specific here haha. Hopefully no one's covered it yet!

The name of the skirt on the site is Collection faux-wrap skirt in Watercolor Mosaic (c4843). It's absolutely gorgeous in person, so if you're a fan of the print and like to go bold, this one's for you. It seems true to size to me (generally am 00 in J Crew skirts/dresses and 0 in pants; also, I'm a Ryder girl - I know it tends to be one cut or the other with their pants, so the skirt shape is Ryder-friendly). I liked how the 000 fit my body/legs a bit slimmer, but my ribs would have been very sad if I had kept it instead of the 00. I think it's supposed to be a fuller skirt anyway.
One thing I found disappointing was the weight of the material - it's described as "lightweight" on the product page but I wouldn't really agree. Maybe it's my lack of familiarity with J Crew skirts/workwear (very first big girl office job buyer here), but I was expecting a more breezy, thin cotton with a poly or light cotton lining. Instead, I would compare it to another J Crew lined cotton pencil skirt I recently bought, it's cream colored with a gold foil/charcoal and brownish leaf pattern and I think now is in the clearance section. This gives it a much more structured look rather than drapey and soft. I decided to keep it because this just means it's suitable for spring and fall as well as the summer, but perhaps if I was not so in love with the print I would have returned it. Also, the extremely nice sales associate who helped me that day gave me both the 30% in-store promo and then the 20% card opener discount on top of that to bring it to a really fantastic price (I had decided to open because I couldn't pick what size would be best and was afraid it would sell out; I REALLY needed this skirt). I think that sealed the deal for me.

So, in short: it's gorgeous, but definitely not what I would describe as summer-weight! Overall very happy with my first Collection piece.

  6. A bit OT - a review, but of a GAP item. A Linen Top, $44.95, short sleeve. I ordered in regular and tall, to compare. The regular is too short and square-ish, like most tops these days. The tall is absolutely fantastic! Almost all in tall were sold out, they are back in stock, maybe because the price is up to a full price; with today's 35% off still very affordable at just under 30 bucks. Highly recommend.

  7. Finally bought the midnight floral pants 4 days ago when down to $79.99, noticed today online and in store they are re stickered - reduced another $20 to$ 59.99 less 50% sale. No price adjustment apparently! Dress in same print also reduced to $59.99. I must have tried on at least 4 pairs size 8 and a couple of 10's to find one batch cut that didn't pull unattractively in the back seam and crotch. There was a big variation in fits within the 8s. If you're attracted to the item, persevere with in store try-ons in the same size! As Gigi noted in her review, the cotton viscose fabric has no give. Therefore batch cut differences have a big effect on overall comfort, even though labelled as the same size. Tempted by the dress for the price, but short on my 5'8" frame and a little stiff and boxy though the colours are wonderful and front neck slit was modest on me. Armholes did not gape and were not overly cut in at the back as JC is doing on some of the tank tee styles now. Metallic linen tank and lace panel tank - looking at you. Don't want to buy racer back bras to wear with these items for a no-show bra strap effect.
Slouchy boardwalk pant comfortable fabric (lyocell/linen). White unfortunately was very see through (pocket linings and light colour underwear). Any size from 6/8/10 seemed to fit (baseline -Campbell size 6) , depending on how slouchy one wanted to go. $69.99 less 50% now.

  8. I bought the midnight floral garden pants as well once they were marked to 59.99 less 60%. I think with everything, they were about 20.00. I sort of like them at that price.

    1. Great deal! Yes, the sizing on these pants as previous posters noted was somewhat tricky - glad you found them that fit!

  9. I recently purchased the Knotted rope earrings (on sale) and I think they're pretty cute. I paired them with floral print shorts, a bold colored top, and the red leather strappy sandals that sold out. You can take a look at how I styled the outfit on my blog.

    1. I didn't like the Knotted rope earrings at first, but then I picked them up on sale and I have worn them SO many times this summer and gotten tons of compliments. They have become a favorite and look cute with all kinds of outfits.

    2. I know, right? I picked them up in the sale section. They're very comfortable, lightweight, and versatile. I love the nautical knot and wood detail together.

Unlike the colorful yarn necklace (unsure of style name), which I was eying, but looked TERRIBLE on me. I wouldn't even know what to style it with. I looked like a clown. It was an easy pass for me.

  10. Reviewed the elsie leather pumps in black and white, print is really fun and the leather is great quality (thanks for bringing back all-leather pumps!) I believe you can get it with 30% off (I used a promo a few weeks ago to purchase).

    1. I adore the Elsie pumps. I have them in the pale pink color (sort of a seashell) and they are so comfortable. I wear them to work all day. I never would have thought that a heel that high could be comfortable. And the color goes with everything. I'm thinking I need a back-up pair for when these go (and J.Crew in its infinite wisdom decided to discontinue or change this shoe).

    2. Aaaaaand . . . I just went to look for the plain leather ones on the website and they are gone.

  11. Does anyone have a review of the ️madewell boyjean- torn up edition?

  12. Finally picked up the Iridescent Hologram Clutch at 30 percent off. LOVE. LOVVVE.

Also I've been getting tons of compliments on the Collection Embellished Tux Pant and the Collection Beaded Cropped Pant, both of which I picked up on sale. Both of those run large- especially the Beaded Cropped Pant, so order down a size if you're considering them.
