J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. My Geo-Lace Sheath Dress arrived over the weekend, I had pre-ordered in the Island Reef color in my regular petite size. The dress itself is mostly lined, except for the sleeves, the color is really pretty. Maybe just a touch darker than the picture. The length was perfect for me at 4'10" and it skimmed my hips. For some it might be a little shapeless but I like the shift style. It's also hard for me to find a shift that fits me on top and doesn't hug my hips too much and this does. Armholes were not too big and it washed well although I didn't put it in the dryer. HTH.

    1. I find the poly lining on cotton dresses so frustrating. Why would you take a cool summer fabric like cotton, use it in a summer dress and then line it with hot poly. The answer of course is likely jcrew cutting costs. This is another example of the jcrew quality issues. I recently purchased the cap sleeve tuxedo bib shirt dress which is described as a cool crisp cotton dress. It is a perfect dress for the summer season for a professional office environment but it is lined with poly. And the online description does not tell you that. I was disappointed.

    2. I know, I was also surprised when I looked at the tag. The only thing I can think of is that the cotton eyelet panels might lay better over the poly than cotton?

  2. Short sleeved cotton pop over C5096. the sleeves are a fail. they stick out funny. I assume the dress in the same style I ordered will be the same. darn. they ruined a simple shirt.

  3. Just saw the headline in the news..."Gap to close 175 stores to catch up with fast fashion " still feeling badly for J Crew 's axed employees. are there more cuts to come to J Crew....I would think so.

  4. I tried the honeycomb cocoon top (c3654) in white. I did not like the material at ALL, the texture in the white veers into dishcloth territory and the hand feel is awful - all the polyester! Reminds me of hospital worker clothing that needs to be polyester to wash out all the blood/body fluids. The folded-in lined part around the neckline was showing through in the white. Also sizing huge again, the 4 fit me and I'm usually a 6 or 8. On the plus side the V was not too low for me and I liked the little button at the top to close it as an option. In another color this may have been better.
In a nice COTTON pique it would have been amazing.

    1. Ditto-same reaction here. So wished it was cotton; can't beat a great white top for summer. I hated to return it, but did.

  5. Pull-on Ikat pant with metallic stripe - I'm usually a 2P or 0R in JCrew pants. I decided to get the 0R for the length. I'm 5'3" and the leg length hits me just below the ankle. The fabric is a great feeling cotton, substantial and soft. The pattern is very nice, just as it appears on-line. It's a very dark, inky navy. The only surprise is the color of the stripe. It's a bright-ish cobalt blue and gold, not at all like it appears to me in the catalog or on-line photos. It doesn't really seem to go with the color of the pants. I briefly thought of returning them because of this, but I like so much about them, that I decided to keep them. I don't know if it's the cut or the fabric pattern or both, but they really have a slimming, elongating look. No small feat for my short self.

    1. I have these pants too. The contrast stripe also bothered me at first, but now I love it. I am seriously in love with these pants. I wish they came in more colorways or prints, because I would totally buy more. I want to wear them every day.

  6. I tried a lot of new arrivals today:
First up the maxi dress in ikat. I loved the pattern amd the feel( which is thin).
It is a coverup and it couldnt be worn as dress, because of the thinness and sheerness. The back went very low,so perfect over a bathing suit or. Bikini top.
    TTS,the xxs fit perfectly.
Next is the embroidered tunic tee. I wanted to try both the xs and xxs,but my store was alredy out of the xs. The xxs was good sizewise. I loved it,very nice quality and shape. The vneck wasnt too low. I would say it fits large.
Cap sleeve in embroidered sunburst: one of the stores started carrying petite and i tried the 2P (i am usually a 0) and it fit fine. I probably would still go with the 0. I wasnt crazy about the striped version.
Linen embroidered stripe tee. I tried the navy in xs and it fit nice(maybe slightly roomy. I like the white version better. In the store they combined the white one with the shorts in Geo brushstroke.
Dress in Geo brushstroke: loved it! I tried the 0 and 00 and both fit nicely. I got the 0 because it was a little longer on me. Pics on my IG @inawonderland5

I also got the embroidered sunburst dress last week in xs. It fits nice, but is a little sheer.

  8. Has anyone tried the drapey chambray romper (item C2190) yet? I'm curious about fit before I order it multiple sizes and have to pay $5.95/return even if I get free shipping to me! I LOVE it though--very cute. This whole roll out reminds me of J.Crew summer 2012 which I loved--easy to wear sun dresses, etc.

  9. I stopped in the store today to take a look at the new rollout items. Everything is made of flimsy sheer fabric. SO sheer! Seriously. Even things that aren't meant to be worn over your bikini! Tops, dresses....ugh! I tried on the linen embroidered tassel stripe tee and like it. I've fallen hard for all the tassel this year. Might get it when it goes on sale. Liked the geo print but my store only has that short dress so far. Too short for me. What's new...broken record. I was happy to see a new hat shape and ordered the new straw boater last week. It came today and it looks cheap. Like it came from Forever 21. Nowhere the same quality as the straw fedora (which I own 4 of)....very disappointing. Also got the Madewell fringed navy/white striped tote. It's made of a nice thick blanket fabric and is BIG. It'll fit everything you need for the beach and more. It's a keeper.

  10. Wore my izat zigzag dress today for the first time after getting J Crew alterations to shorten the V neck. Was sitting down to actually write a glowing online review and looked down at my lap and the dress had split away from the front seam. This is the issue that is reported online which I was hoping I would not experience. Not sure what I will do yet since it is not an easy repair and would not have J Crew alterations do it since they did not line up the neckline when they did the shortening. I love this dress, the color, style, fit and design but as usual the quality is not there.

    1. I was wondering about that seam issue based on the reviews. J Crew has been doing quite a few of the contrasting piping/seams lately and they tend to be vulnerable to splitting from stress on the two different fabrics. I thought that dress was so cute!

    2. Did my return, the SA was very apologetic and since they did not have the same size decided that it was not meant to be. Was able to give one of my $20 off $100 to a young man obviously buying some new clothes for work, which was good. Saw some of the new arrivals, since I don't live near a beach, I don't need short, thin, plunging neckline dresses as coverups. Sale section was filled to the gills as usual, nothing moving even at 50% off. I will end up with a credit on my account this month, maybe J Crew will get their act together by the fall/winter and hopefully I will become a regular shopper again.

  11. Got a lot in the store yesterday. Caved and bought the Geo Brushstroke Boy Shirt at full price because it was just so cool. Love love love.

I bought the seaside pant AND the pullon short in Tropical Frond since both were on super sale. This print was much more flattering in person than it looked on the website. I'm wearing the pants to the office today with the merino-cotton blend sweater in blue.

Also picked up the Ladder Stitch Silk Shell on sale in Plum Orchard. It's very light-- perfect to tuck into all these drapey pants.

    1. Interesting! The Seaside pant is excluded from the current promo on-line.
How is the sizing? It looks like a really comfortable pant. Do you think it has the potential to be casual, office appropriate?
