J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Does anyone have a review of the women's bucket hat? I ordered the dusty alabaster color yesterday. Was hoping to get the navy, but looks like it sold out (I know it was on backorder through mid-July as of early yesterday morning, but when I finally got around to placing the order it was gone). Maybe the alabaster color is more versatile, anyway? I have a small head, so hoping the s/m size fits.

    1. Hi Danielle, I got the bucket hat in Navy earlier this spring and ended up returning it, because it was just too big for me. It's a nicely made hat, but the brim reached my shoulders and I couldn't see under it. I got the M/L size, so the S/M might be a better fit! Hope this helps!

    2. I have the olive in M/L. It fits a little large but I'm fine with it as I like the bigger brim, makes it look a little different from the usual bucket hat.

  2. Garment-dyed Military Popover (c3926) in the Khaki color. This is linen/cotton, but it is a heavy weight for a spring/summer item. Maybe nice on a cool spring day, but not something I would ever wear in the summer. Plus the heavier weight made it not drape that well.

  4. Love the SIDELINE PANT IN INDIGO-STRIPE CHAMBRAY (item c1010), reviewed it on JC's website:
The moment I unpacked these pants I thought: they are much, much nicer than the website shows. In real life this is a chambray pant with well defined pinstripes while on the website it is a more 'fuzzy' stripe. The pinstripes make for a slightly more dressed up vibe which is nicely counterbalanced by the track pant design. Love that typical J Crew high low mix. TTS, nice midweight material, great fit. So no drawbacks at all??? Well, I will be replacing the white drawstring with a navy one.

  5. -Summerweight Hooded Utility Jacket (c4139) in classic green - Nice quality, thick canvas, even though it says lightweight. I (think) you can remove the hood; I regret not taking it off myself to inspect, I just looked at it. I ordered PXS, since its a boxy fit (I'm 4'11, 36B). I think the next time I order it, I would switch it to a PS, only because I felt the armpit area a bit snug. The jacket can also be worn during the fall. I returned it, and hoping to buy when it goes on sale.

Short-Sleeve Popover Shirt in Stripe - SOLD OUT. Ordered this in P4, because it doesn't have darts. Overall satisfied with this shirt. I kind of wanted to buy the white. It's sold out in petite, I would need to do some stalking.

Petite Regent Blazer in Stripe Linen (c6040) - Ordered this in P6. I usually wear a P4 in schoolboy, and since this is fitted, the P6 fit me best (I'm 36B). I like having the option of buttoning the jacket. Overall, it is made well. I also like the lining - it's cotton, yay! I would hate it if it was lined in poly; I would be dripping in sweat. Styling it the way J.Crew did - with crop jeans, white v-neck tee, and the woven diamond fringe tie belt.

  6. Some quick comments:

Returned the factory version of sleeveless Infinity shirt (c4874), no darts and very deep armholes. Very very very deep. Sine the rest of the shirt fit fine, I have to conclude this was a design defect.

Keeping factory sleeveless tee with large green frond, seems tts and it's all cotton.

Tried on the long linen-cotton boy shirt, wasn't happy with the tailoring and even after I took one home and ironed it, it looked crumpled and floppy. It went back and I have to admit no one even noticed my attempt at ironing.

The factory petite bucket bag (c8089) is getting a lot of compliments. The color is a light pinkish beige, there's one inside pocket.

Factory Transparent Tote (Item C6852) - here are the measurements (mysteriously missing from the website).
    · Length: 16 in.
    · Width: 7 in.
Holds a TON of stuff. Keeping.

    1. Oops, and height of bag (without straps) - 13.5 in.

    2. WFF - The sleeveless infinity shirt was no bueno. The no darts and no seams is a dealbreaker. Made me think of something from Mervyn's. The sleeveless silk from FA14 was much, much better.

  7. Factory eyelet dot dress (c3364) - Despite the “Cotton” description, the lining is 100% polyester, making this a deal breaker for me. The outer layer is a dupe of the retail collection dress from last year, but the interior is a very flimsy two-layer polyester “dress” with too-long spaghetti straps - you’d probably have to wear a strapless bra with this one. I didn’t love where the cap sleeves hit on my upper arms. Fit TTS.

  9. Seaside Pant (C4330), in fisherman's gray. These are a blend of linen and tencell lyocell, which I am mentioning because I wore these all day yesterday and any wrinkles were very light and not noticeable and I wondered what this miracle fabric could be. These were so comfortable. If they had a drawstring, they'd be better. In my regular size, they were slipping down if I put anything in the pockets. I don't think I should have gone down a size, though. The rear view is probably not the most flattering, but I don't think it sagged during the day of wear, either. I really love these and might put a drawstring in them.

    1. I echo your love for these, Cate. I wish they were about $20 cheaper, but the low stock in tall sizes didn't allow me to wait for markdown/promotion time.

    2. I wish there were some other muted color choices. I'm personally not into the brights for pants. I may try the white ones. Have you tried them? I wonder if they are see-through.

    3. Sorry-I haven't seen them in white. When they arrive I'll let you know. Fingers crossed they are good!

    4. Hope so, fingers crossed! For as much as I complain about the items that don't work out, the ones that do more than make up for it.

    5. Ok, the white arrived today. Not sheer, but pockets are very visible. Probably not any worse than most white pants JC offers. I love the texture of this fabric. Wish the inseam was an inch longer (mine measure 27", a half inch shy of the website inseam). I think they are fine with nude underwear. I'll ask my husband to double check the rear view when he gets home ;), but I think they are keepers. HTH!

  10. Big sale update this morning. The Mackenzie crackled foil sandals (C7271) are there in two sizes (6.5 and 8.5) if anyone is stalking them.

  11. midnight floral pants: gorgeous fabric!

I wear size 2 in Campbell capris, sometimes a 4 in shorts, size 27 in jeans. So you can tell sizing is all over the place and the same is true with these pants. I ordered a 4 and they fit fine EXCEPT felt a little tight across the hip/crotch area. This fabric won't be stretching in this lifetime and so I sent them back to try the next size up. I figured I could get the waist band taken in and hopefully the hip will have a bit more 'ease'..............
