Extra 30% off J.Crew's Final Sale

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Rose (in this post), who shared the following email & news from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering customers to take 30% off all sale items (no min) with promo code SHOP30. This offer expires Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid on the purchase of final sale items in J.Crew stores from August 16, 2013, through August 18, 2013, and at jcrew.com from August 16, 2013, 12:01am ET through August 20, 2013, 11:59pm ET. Offer not valid in the 769 Madison Avenue store, Ludlow Shops, the Liquor Store or J.Crew Factory stores, at jcrewfactory.com or on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offer. Offer not valid on Wallace & Barnes merchandise or third-party branded items. Discount on qualifying retail purchases will be applied at the register. To redeem online, enter code SHOP30 in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promo code per order. Offer valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer are subject to change.
I am really happy to finally see 30% off their sale online. I am hoping that brick & mortar stores are also offering an additional 30% off.

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get?

  1. I was about to check out with the green and polka dot flutter tops but then jcrew.com gave me an error and apparently they're all sold out now. sigh.

the collection box-pleated skirt in circle jacquard is tempting but i don't *need* it and am unsure of the sizing...

  2. Finally! Do you think they'll do another 40% off after this? Or that's it for sales?

    3. When I was in my store today, I was told they are supposed to run one of the percentage off your order of $150 or more next week. Not sure how much or if it will be online, but just was told the extra percentage off sale would probably go away in replacement of that promo. We shall see! :) I'd love a big sale plus free shipping!

  3. Extreme popbacks, baby! Proceed with caution, JCA's...I hate to see people get burned on final sale.

  4. Finally landed the Double-Breasted Schoolboy Blazer, which I've had my eye on for ages! I was a little confused at first at the color options (the 'Dark Navy' appeared lighter than the 'Navy' onscreen), but the CS assured me that it was just the lighting angle (and that the 'Navy' is the same color as the regular single-breasted navy schoolboy blazer). So excited to receive it!

  6. I'm thinking of getting the Maritime Blazer in 00 since it's EUR61...which is a steal for living in Germany. (I moved from NYC and am having serious JCrew withdrawls -- thank god for int'l shipping..) anyway - I'm petite and arms are usually long on me - but I hear this is a short cut? Do any petites have experience with the Maritime Blazer?

    3. thanks silver_lining, was helpful to see pictures of someone real wear it. It looks to fit well, but I don't like the sweater-ness of it. I rather something nore structured and lined, at least for 60eur!

      Delete
    4. Thanks for the link, silver_lining :)

merci - I love that it feels casual, but has structure to it. It's very sturdy and holds its shape, but definitely not a traditional blazer and doesn't have a lining. Think knit blazer.

    6. Sorry for the deleting and reposting this comment--I wanted to link properly for those who are on the fence about the maritime blazer. Gigi's review really helped me. I'm pretty happy with my purchase; I've worn it a few times here.

Merci, it's not a very formally structured blazer, but it is comfortable for casual purposes. Ruth, I'm 5'1" and the sleeves fit me just fine on the M. I usually have to cuff them. HTH.

    1. Besides the difference in fabric (cotton/silk on the retail one, cotton poplin on the factory one) and about $125, I can't tell a difference. I'd contact CS and get measurements for both - that may be your answer.

      Delete
    2. I ordered and returned the factory version. Loved the print and I liked the fabric, but the dress was extremely high-waisted on me and the v-neck was too deep. Terrible fit. The retail photo looks exactly like it.

  19. Crazy popbacks this morning!

    1. How'd you get the extra 20 off on top of the 30? Did you purchase in store?

    2. I'm so jealous! I've stalking those forever (I need gold sandals for a wedding) and of course, as soon as they went on sale, my size was out.

      Delete
    3. MS--I think I saw your comment about the Greta gold sandals, too. Have you tried looking at Kate Spade? They usually have a few rows of wedding appropriate shoes. Just click "view all" and they are at the very bottom. Hope you find something nice!

    4. Sorry, made that confusing! I grabbed then with the WIT20 promo on to of sale price. If you can get them on a pop back with the 30% it's an even better deal.

  20. thanks so much... I couldn't believe they would make such a similar dress and sell for two completely different prices. I am not in the US and cant get to a store to compare.

  21. Am I mistaken? If I try to get the additional % off a promo item online, it works. At the B&M I went to today (while travelling, there isn't one where I live), the SA said she would price match the promo but the additional % off won't work. I didn't buy the item because I thought I should have gotten the extra off. At madewell yesterday the SA price matched and gave the extra % without me even asking! Very different experience. Did I just encounter the infamous j crew inconsistencies?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kitkat, the email I got this morning said the 30% off is both in store and online. Sorry to hear you had your first encounter with the "crewsistencies" (gigi's slang list FTW!)

      Delete
    2. I have had that experience once as well as an SA refusing to price match the online price. This past weekend, I had a lovely SA who agreed to PM a necklace that was going for retail at B&M but on sale online. She readily agreed to the PM and allowed me to stack the 15% student discount on top of it. I guess it's the luck of the draw.

The only constant I have encountered is that the SA will not stack any additional discounts when the promotion is #% off entire purchase.

  22. Went to a B&M to see if they had the Biennial Medium Satchel in Warm Burgundy but they did not. So ordered online while it is on sale and included in the SHOP30 promo. 25. I am having an issue with customer service. I ordered a on- ine t-shirt (like others I already have) and the recent one (in the same size ) is huge. I reordered in a size smaller today ($3 more today) and want to ship the huge one back. Yes these t-shirts were final sale...but the sizing is totally off. They will not except the return...I am tick off....am I over reacting or should I stick to my guns over the sizing issue...or should I just suck it up to "damn final sale " BURNED AGAIN.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would stick to my guns if I were you! Are you near a store? If so, I've always had success returning a final sale item. If sizing is WAAY off, then I don't see why it can't be returned or at least get store credit. It's not right to make you keep something when it's J. Crew's fault for making a faulty item. If anything, you can always call your nearest store and speak with the manager. From my experience, they've always been pretty accommodating. Good luck.

      Delete
    2. Thanks for your reply. I am not near a store and I order on-line from J CREW a lot. The issue they say is they have accomodated me before with returning final sale items ( this was due to poor quality or just plain defective )
So I set a pleasant but firm e-mail saying I am sending both T-shirts back...at a loss of $45 to me and they can keep them both....again am I over reacting ? BURNED AGAIN

      Delete
    3. Have you tried calling or chatting instead of emailing? Sometimes being polite but firm can be more productive.

      Delete
    4. Thank you for the help. I will wait until I get the next reply email. I will either phone...or just give up. BURNED AGAIN

      Delete
    5. I would suggest emailing to get the measurements if the item in that size. If the sizing is off, you have proof. This has happened to me countless times with coats, tippi sweaters, pants, etc. Each time CS has returned the item immediately, even if final sale, and offered to pay return postage because I have to do everything online and by mail.

      Delete
  26. Thank you all for the help & tips. I will let you know what transpires. BURNED AGAIN

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, not overreacting. It's the PRINCIPLE of the matter. If you paid money (whether it's a penny or $100) for an item, you expect to get what you paid for (an item that fits). Short of that, you should be able to return defective item. That's the bottom line for me. What happened to standing behind the company's brand. This is just another reason why J. Crew is getting such a bad rap and why many people shop elsewhere.

      Delete
    2. Just heard back. They have given me a credit for half the cost of the first t-shirt ( the HUGE one )
Am I happy ? no. But I am done with final sale and perhaps J Crew in general.
Note to self : JUST SAY NO TO FINAL SALE ...you got burned. BURNED AGAIN

    3. Try ordering through a VPS next time. If you are unable to try items on because you are nowhere near a store, you can return items.

      Delete
    4. Agree with Rose. I often have to order online because my size often isn't available in store. My VPS waives final sale restrictions when I place the order so that I can return what doesn't work.

      Delete
    5. Good to know about going through a VPS. I bought a Final Sale item once and it was a mess: ripped out hem, super wrinkled and didn't look clean. I've never bought another Final Sale item again. Thanks for the tip.

    5. Confused. I wear an 8 in cece flat and 7-1/2 in Nora flat. Always European size 38 and am between a 7-1/2 and 8 in US sizing. Advice from Janey owners? I've been planning to order an 8....

    6. Bridgetabcs, I am between a 7.5 and 8 in Cece flats but always went with the 7.5. My normal shoe size is an 8, and I am definitely an 8 in the Janeys (I'm an 8 in two different pairs that I've worn a few times each). I tried on the Janeys in 8.5 and they were definitely too big on me. So I'd say you should order the 8. Good luck!

My only quibble is that some of it (especially the leather pieces and the monochromatic looks) are very reminiscent of Club Monaco.
