Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Hopefully, yes! I have to return all of the too big tippi cardigans from the sweater promo. I also have some critter necklaces on hold. Hoping to check out some of the new fall pieces IRL.

    1. Would you recommend sizing down on this year's Tippi's?

      Delete
    2. I bought the stripe tippi in small and compared it to last year's solid.... Huge difference. I reordered the stripe in an XS. So, yes size down... At least in the stripe. Haven't tried this year's solid version so I can't speak for consistency.

      Delete
    3. I tried on my usual small in the stripe and found it a bit snug, then I put it on top of a medium to compare, and the medium was crazy bigger. like 2 inches in the sleeve and width. maybe one of them was sized wrong???

      Delete
    4. It's jcrew.... The only consistency in sizing is its inconsistency.

      Delete
    5. Maybe the stripe is different? (although it shouldn't be) I've found the sizing in the solid tippi consistent - ordered a couple with the recent promo and they fit just the same as last year.

    6. This was my first time with the Tippis and I found them to fit very large. I tried the color block cardigan, regular cardigan, and the stripe pullover. I have consistently been a size small in j.crew sweaters for years, and this is the first time I have ever taken an extra small. (i don't like sweaters too tight, and I like a little room for layering). I found the stripe pullover in extra small to fit perfectly, will be keeping that one!

    7. The Tippi cardigans fit TTS, I find. I will try the solid pullover today just to make sure since I would love to get another colour.

      Delete
    8. My Tippi cardigans fit large, but that's ok as I like to hand wash my sweaters and the Tippis tend to shrink even in cold water.

      Delete
    9. I find the Tippis this year to run a bit smaller. I usually wear an XS but this year, the XS was too tight in the arms (although I do have athletic arms....maybe its just me) but fit well in the body. I sized up to a Small and they fit great. A bit loose in the body but definitely not that anyone else would notice.

  3. Don't think I will visit J. Crew this weekend. I've done my damage with online purchases and now I wait for shipping and then the returns. I lost my mind and purchased the Double-Cloth Slim Trench in Caribbean Pink (I blame the 25% promo). Chances are that will be returned, but I wanted to try it on and my stores never get things like that. Has anyone tried that on or reviewed it? I'd love to hear about it.

    1. I reviewed it in last week's review post. I love it!

    2. Hi Debby, thank you, I found it! I am a little worried about the fit, though. I have broad shoulders and would usually buy a 10 in a fitted coat, but if your larger size is a close fit, I may need to size up. Oh well, there is still plenty of time until coat weather if I need to exchange it :)

  5. I was really hoping for an online Labor Day promo this morning. Any thoughts on the likelihood of a sale? I can't remember what happened last year.

Also, does anyone have a review of the marigold pearl necklace? I haven't seen it IRL, so I'm nervous about the quality. I'd love to buy that and the stovepipe trousers...but not without a promo.

  6. I don't think I'll go. I bought about $300.00 worth of stuff last weekend (sweaters and a pair of earrings). I neeed to try on my winter things and just add what I need. I will be doing some returns to a couple of other stores.

    1. Flower Power, Poppy Red is on sale. I purchased yesterday in store for 89.99. Same price online (shocker). They are wonderful :)

  8. I went yesterday. The multi-color tweed skirt was already in the sale section - that was quick. I love tweed, but this one didn't appeal to me.

Was a bit jolted by both the Peter Pan collar sweater and the Hen sweater - awful, scratchy material. Like something I'd expect to cost $20. What's happened to J.Crew?

BTW, did they not do a "unique" jacket this autumn? The 2012 version of Ecole/Bella/Fiona/Astrid? Usually there's a jacket that comes in wool and velvet, different from the ubiquitous schoolboy and hacking. Où est-il?

  9. I would love to see both new sparkly collection sweaters --Fair isle sparkle sweater & Jewled petal sweater-- but I know my store wouldn't have them, they never have great things like that. The jeweled petal sweater is $425 though, and that is ridiculous! It makes me want to buy a camel Jackie sweater and bedazzle it. Um, what is up with that Collection shearling trim coat? It looks like something you'd see on a homeless person.

  10. I just peeked at the GSP store in NJ. Small sale section, no extra percent off. I saw some white Pom Pom shells and Classic Pink and Turquoise Pool Tippi cardigans (my favorites- for $39.99), as well as many Derby and Jules striped dresses. They also had a number of the Crystal Marquis bracelets (pretty, but ornate, and they seem to be well made) for $79.99. OT, but Tory Burch is running a great Labor Day percent off sale- post on my blog- On Trend Orchids . HTHs someone!

  12. Report from the b&m at Easton in Columbus, Ohio. If anyone is looking for white jeans, they have lots of sizes in the bootcut on sale for $49.99. I got a pair, plus an ink dip popover in a bright turquoise for $39.99 ($49.99 online). They also gave me the 25% off from the online coupon, but didn't take it from me, so I can use it again.

  13. Oh, and I agree with Barbabelle that the peter pan collar sweater is ridiculously itchy, especially the collar part. I actually winced when I felt it because I could imagine how bad it would feel on my neck.

    1. Purchase The Laundress Sweater Comb AND Sweater Stone!!! I know the sweater comb might seem expensive ($18) but it is worth EVERY PENNY!! I have literally pulled sweater & knits out of my Goodwill pile, de-pilled them, and they now look like the day I bought them!

    3. I haven't had problems washing mine yet..no pilling. I bought the comb for the cashmere sweaters. It is worth the cost. Removes pilling w/o snags.

    4. I second the sweater stone recommendation. I bought one off amazon (about $5) and it has worked miracles on my cashmere sweaters and even a wool blazer

  15. I went to a Factory store today. All Denim, Cord Pants, Handbags, Dresses, and Sweaters are 40% off. Pencil skirts and Perfect shirts are 30% off. All Crewcuts 30% off. Extra 30% of Clearance Section. (Crewcuts Clearance was much cheaper than online.) The whole store was on sale. I just can't remember all the % off. The 20% off coupon comes off the total, as usual. Also, for those who had asked the Winnie pants are the same as the Minnie pants in look and fit. I feel like I tried on the whole store if anyone has any ?'s.

    1. Wow! I wish we see the same deals on the factory website! Oh well, I guess it saves me $. I'm trying to focus on building a list for my 25% coupon, hoping we see a few more new items next week before I make my final selections.

    2. I agree, they did have some great deals and that 20% off coupon came in handy! I got the Draped Novelty Top in the golden mustard (love those polka dots), the Textured Tweed Pencil Skirt in navy, the Winnies in casablanca blue, a sequin tank top in lavender, and a scarf also in the golden mustard polka dot.

I was sad they didn't have the ruffle-collar dress (would have bought in purple, I had the retail version of this in gray a few years ago before I lost 20 pounds, would not have altered well, but I miss it!) and the peacoat (not sure I would have bought but would have liked to look).

  16. Visited my B&M (Park Meadows, CO) and was able to get 25% off in store. Purchased the Liberty Indian Red shirt, Toothpick Cords and Cece Ballet Flats, as well as some sale items. Scored a lovely Perfect Shirt in Mini-Gingham for $29.99, must have been a return since they did not carry in store. They did have a pretty good sale section, they had a few trench coats in the sale section not sure style or price. Noticed that items on sale are matching closer to online prices. Boy shirt in Snowcat was $49.99, in fact they had the whole snow cat line on sale. Maybe J Crew is reading this blog and taking notice. Thanks Alexis for giving us a forum for voicing our views.

    1. I'm also interested. Has anyone compared the Laundress sweater comb with the drugstore brand sweater combs? Is it really worth the higher price? I have several inexpensive combs that help somewhat, but not as well as erilette27's experience.

    2. I have a sweater shaver, which I love. You do have to take care to use only when the sweater is laid out flat on a hard surface - but the results are well worth it. I got mine at The Container Store: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/laundry/laundryDetergentsClothingCare?productId=10030528&N=80458

    3. there's a sweater comb for $1.49 at Joann.com. Most craft/ fabric stores have them. If you must pay more, there's one at Amazon for about $5.

      Delete
    4. WFF, that's why I was asking if anyone has compared the Laundress and drugstore versions. My drugstore version helps a little, but it does NOT work miracles.

      Delete
    5. I second WFF, the drugstore version works the same . Do not expect miracles from Laundress version. It works fine but will no remove all fuzz. I use a combo of a comb and electric shaver and they keep my sweaters decent.

  23. This is sort of off topic: I am stuck in a watch dilemma: I have the Brompton Hobo and another staple purse with yellow gold hardware as well as much of the JCrew Jewelry with yellow gold hardware. I also have a couple of meaningful pieces that are white gold, including my wedding band and engagement ring. The question is--should I invest in a white gold/silver/stainless steel watch or a yellow gold watch? Will a silver watch clash with the gold hardware purses? Will a gold watch be out of style/dated soon? I trust the JCA's most of all, so I thought I would pose this question to you, ladies. I appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

    1. I have a stainless steel Bulova watch w/gold and diamond accents. It goes w/everything.

      Delete
    2. I agree a stainless steel watch with gold accents will be most versatile. I have a stainless/gold tag heuer and it goes with absolutely everything. Mixing metals can be really cute and modern, IMO

      Delete
    3. I have a gold watch and wear a silver ring. Honestly, I don't think mixing metals is a bad thing.

Don't be afraid to mix! If you feel weird about it, maybe you could get a watch with both gold and silver elements on it so that you really could wear gold or silver jewelry more comfortably.

      Delete
    4. thanks, ladies!! you've helped me choose my watch!

      Delete
  24. I think it depends whether you want a more basic watch that goes with everything or one that is a little more fun.

For my everyday fallback, I have a coach lexington watch, like this but for women:

    http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/Coach-Mens-Lexington-Stainless-Steel-Yellow-Gold-Plated-Watch/6623218/product.html

I love it. It's pretty and goes with literally everything. I couldn't find the women's version online, but if you like big watches, the men's version would also work.

But I have to say that I really like the fun watches, and I also have and love (more than my Coach watches) a few Michael Kors watches. Here's one to give you an idea (too bad it isn't silver/gold instead of silver/rose gold):

    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/michael-kors-rectangular-chronograph-bracelet-watch/3141510?origin=keywordsearch

Also the Michael Kors watch in horn is a great neutral:

    http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/michael-kors-ritz-crystal-index-bracelet-watch/3288671?origin=keywordsearch&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=39

I don't know exactly what it is made of -- It's ivory colored, and there are several styles with either gold or silver detailing. If you got one with silver, I think that would also work with anything. An added benefit of this material is that it is super light, where the metal MK watches can be quite heavy.

    Sorry so much... Good luck!

  25. This is a bit off topic too but I just bought the Garance Dore blouse at Kate Spade- the one with the black peter pan collar and whimsical French print. OMG- it goes with everything! It fits beautifully- it's one of those pieces that make you feel prettier. It is pricey but my store had a special promo that I got $50 off. 26. Just got back from my local J.Crew store. A pretty good sized sale section — they put out more items since I last went, which was Wednesday or Thursday.

I ended up buying the Pop Art Polka Dot Café Capris. I sized down TWO WHOLE sizes. Wow. Talk about pants that make you feel good about yourself!

The SA was very nice and let me take the 25% off from the cardholder email, but they did give me that "we'll make an exception and do it just this one time" speech. And I totally understand why — they don't key in your special code...they just take 25% off. So technically, I could use the 25% off online, too, but that feels a bit unethical to me. But anyhow, in case anyone was wondering about that.

    1. I bet the capris were mis-sized.

  30. I wasn't planning to make any purchases this weekend but my staple neutral nude Stuart Weitzman pumps just bit the bullet over the weekend! It will cost more to fix them than they are worth at this point. I am so sad!

They had the merino tippi's and some merino sweaters (boyfriend) similar to last year but no pockets which I prefer. They were all 40% off + additional 20% w/my email flyer. I also picked up a few button down shirts, leggings AND a pokadot pencil skirt...I loved it all...and everything for ~$300...the same price as the 5 sweaters that I bought at the store that are now ALL going back!! 37. I won't be visiting this weekend - too tired from last weekend's trip, during which I brought along the first participant in my "Reboot" blog post series, in which I am offering style and wardrobe advice to blog readers. My first volunteer was not familiar with J. Crew's current offerings so it was a lot of fun to introduce her to the brand and have her try on a whole bunch of really colourful things (this is a woman whose wardrobe is almost entirely black and beige!). The Tippi sweater in crushed grape and the No. 2 double serge wool skirt in retro jade was a great success on her so she bought both pieces. You can read more about it here.

    4. @Yippee, I don't know what the problem might be. When I "relaunched" my blog in July, I did not change the actual blog website address, I only changed the blog template and it is in HTML code, nothing out of the ordinary has been done. I have accessed my blog via my iPad, iPhone, my Mac laptop (using Safari) as well as my husband's Mac laptop (he uses Firefox). My PC desktop at work is a different matter, as it runs Internet Explorer and the IT people at work have occasionally blocked all websites with a Blogger or Blogspot address (right now they seem to be allowing it). Have you tried using Firefox as your browser? You can also follow the blog via Bloglovin, where it is still registered as Cosmetic Bee.
