  1. Does anyone have any experience with the Factory Winnie Pant in Stretch Twill? Seems like the Factory version of the Minnie pant and I'm wondering how they compare. TIA!

    1. AlyShops posted in a prior review:

"Factory winnie in navy, again ordered normal size, fit well, a keeper. I really can't tell the difference between retail and factory."

Any other opinions? I'm curious too.

    2. Are the Minnies lined? I can't remember. The Winnies aren't.

But I find that the Minnies and the Winnies fit exactly the same, except, I think the Winnies are shorter in length. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm wearing the Winnies right now (and had to let them out an inch), but I recall the Minnies being longer when I tried them on.

    3. Thanks for the shout out Cate O! The Minnies are not lined and neither are the winnies. The Winnies might be a bit shorter, I am 5'3" and did not feel like they needed to be hemmed, whereas I would have shortened the Minnies.

    4. I forgot to mention: I'm 5'7", and I'm more leg than torso. If you're above 5'6", you're better off with the Minnie, unless you want to have a 1/4-inch hem from letting out the Winnies like me, haha.

  2. The minnies and winnies are the same thing. I have tried both and cannot tell the difference, except the price, of course!

    1. Agree with this 100%. I am pretty sure they are made with the exact same fabric in the exact same shape. I can't tell the difference between my factory Winnies and my retail Minnies (except the color, obvs).

  3. I don't really understand the whole factory thing?

    1. It used to be that Factory stores got the retail leftovers or seconds, but I don't think any of them are like that any more. Seems like J. Crew manufacturers their own line for the Factory stores, usually less expensive knockoffs of their retail merchandise, but they don't usually knock off their higher end items. They'll often use cheaper materials (substituting polyester for silk but using same blouse style, for example, or a wool blend on a pencil skirt instead of higher wool content). Sometimes the items look exactly the same (Quincy tartan perfect shirt, for example). Bubble necklaces are smaller and cheaper. Some things I can't tell the difference between Factory and Retail, such as Toothpick jeans or Matchstick cords. I think their vintage tees are better (a bit thicker and less delicate) than retail. I'm a big fan of the Factory, if you can't tell :) Their wool pencil skirts are great right now - a pretty yellow, veridian green, blue. I can't tell the difference between retail and factory with those, but someone with a better eye for detail might.

    2. I agree with most of what Cate mentioned. The wool pencils are quite different btw the retail and factory versions. The factory skirt is a good inch shorter, and the synthetic content in the wool blend is over 60%. The fit is about the same. I have reviews of both on my blog. HTH

    3. Closet Crisis, I took a look at my 3 Factory wool pencil skirts, bought this year and last year. All 3 are the same: wool 70%, viscose 30%, lining is acetate. Maybe by "wool" they use something different than what's in the retail wool?

I don't own any retail wool pencil skirts so I can't compare to them. I was curious about the veridian green pencil skirt, though, since it was offered as retail last year and as factory this year... I wonder what the retail wool content in that skirt was last year. Anyone know?

  4. Thanks for the coupon!

I'll check out Factory but have never bought there before. I'm not sure how the quality compares overall, but I know the Perfect Fit Tee is NOT the same as the regular version just by touching it.

  5. I actually prefer the factory merino sweaters to the full-priced Tippis. My Tippis have a real problem with pilling, whereas my factory sweaters are still in excellent shape after many wears.

  6. Thanks for the credit, Alexis! I was on Factory website today creating my mental wish list for the coupon. I saw an announcement about a new Factory website launch in October. If you create a Factory account you are entitled to perks like free shipping until Nov, a birthday discount, weekly emails, etc. Sounds like a great loyalty kind of program for Factory fans. I am pleased with this move by J Crew. :)

  7. Just returned from outlet...they have HEART sweaters....retail knock offs! In three colors: camel, navy, and flame...
Ones salesperson actually said my butt looked big in a 00 Winnie so I almost sized up but 2 other SAs said NO! The Winnie is supposed to fit like that AND they said it stretches. Opinions?
