J.Crew Email: Jenna's picks...holiday gifts + FREE SHIPPING

"Thanks!" to many of you, including HeidiG & Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's most recent email, which showcases all of Jenna Lyons' picks for the latest catalog.

Jenna's Gift Picks. My favorite kind of gifts are those special pieces your frients or family might not get for themselves. A pair of silk PJ's, statement jewels, a silk t-shirt, or a great find from our sister store, Madewell. Plus, half the fun is knowing you can always borrow them later!
  1. Skinny studded belt (Item 19682; $35.00)
Superskinny satin belt (Item 21396; $25.00)
    Skinny tortoise patent-leather belt (Item 17318; $39.50)
  2. Washed silk pocket tee (Item 21817; $68.00)
  3. Marché Tote (Item 21458; $278.00)
  4. Pearl-and-crystal avalanche necklace (Item 22681; $135.00)
  5. Printed silk habotai sleep shirt (Item 21386 ; $98.00)
Printed silk habotai pajama pant (Item 21385 ; $88.00)
  6. Infinity earrings (Item 22660; $65.00)
  7. Jacquard ballet flats (Item 20323; $135.00)
  8. Madewell Cropped Tux Jacket (Item 20738; $170.00)
  9. Metropolitan suede ankle boots (Item 19995; $250.00)
  10. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square
    (Narscosmetics.com)
  11. Crushed glitter magic wallet (Item 20986; $16.50)
  12. Sequined starland tank (Item 22401; $138.00)
  13. Toothpick zipper jean (Item 24351; $125.00)
For the most part, I don't care for Jenna's picks. They are just not items I would select for me (let alone give to anyone else).

I really don't like the Toothpick Zipper Jean. It reminds me too much of the 80's, and not in the good way (Strawberry Shortcake, Jem, CareBears = Good | Scrunchies, Jeans tucked & rolled, Zippers everywhere = Bad). With that said, I do like the Jacquard Ballet Flats and Infinity Earrings (both are cute, cute, cute!)

The email reminds us that they are offering (1) 30% off all outerwear & (2) free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code WINTER. This offer expires 12/9/09. :)

What are your thoughts on the items selected? Do you like the color palette? Which items would have made your top picks of new arrivals that you are loving this month?

  1. Darn! So I called my local B&M store and they said that I would still have to pay shipping through the red phone on the field jacket even though the item is only on sale because of the promotion for outerwear. Apparently this is a new policy, that promotion items need to have shipping paid for too. Just thought I'd share that with all of you. Although, the SA did say that you can talk with the manager and try to get free shipping. It just doesn't make sense to me. I'd be paying almost $15 in shipping for this jacket, so I'm not even sure I want to get it now:( Have any JCA's come across this issue before?

  2. Jenna's picks are mostly pans for me. I wanted to love the fairisle, but it's too teeny and flammable. I agree with Alexis on the flats (and JEM!!!), but as usual I can wait for a big sale on shoes. I love Nars and the gnome in the cankle boot picture, both of those reds are great!

momoberry, sorry about your jacket. I'd cancel if I still could, that is one whopping shipping cost for something you're on the fence about and will probably be significantly cheaper in a few weeks.

  3. I don't really care for Jenna's picks either...I just kind of glaze over when I see them!

I finally pulled the trigger and bought the wool duffle with the promo. I wanted it in wild blackberry but it's not expected to ship until the end of january in my size :(

  4. CheesyGoodness: Luckily I haven't bought the jacket yet. I'm worried that it'll be backordered soon though, since only the XS and XL sizes are left. I just hate having to ask for free shipping, the SAs think you're cheap or something, so rude :p

  5. CheesyGoodness, "flammable" sweaters, hahah!

  6. Momoberry: Try to order something as a ride-along to meet the minimum for free shipping and return the other item to B&M if it's not much hassle to you. Btw, I sized down on that jacket when I tried it on.

I love the flats (I love all JC flats...) and the NARS lipstick in that red... the rest of the picks are a little meh for me

  7. I always assumed that "Jenna's Picks" were mainly duds they're trying to move. Am I wrong?

  8. The crushed glitter items are utterly ridiculous. My local store had a display of the crushed glitter minaudières, and there was metallic dander *everywhere*. Those wallets would end up a crusty mess in your purse. Why anyone would pay more than $10 for an item that is going to shed + spread the minute you touch it, I don't know.

  9. OT: Boden is having its winter sale. Does anyone know of a free ship code for Boden to use along with the sale? Thanks.

  10. Genny: Typically when Boden does a sale, they do not offer extra incentives...which may be why there are still summer sale items floating out there...

And you have to pay shipping. On the plus side, there are some pretty fantastic deals...

  11. I have the Fair Isle cardigan and I really like it! I know it's been questioned a bit on this blog -- I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered it -- but I'm quite happy with it. It's definitely a casual look, but it's cosy and warm, and when I wore it to the mall last week two of the sales girls at BR told me that they loved my sweater. So, acrylic content aside, I'm glad I got it!

  12. hehehehe.....cankle boot picture....metallic dander...

  13. Clicquot, I love the look of the Fair Isle sweater. I would have thought that acrylic would be something JC would stay far away from, not just the material but the association, but I'm so glad you love yours and I would have definitely gotten it otherwise. It reminds me of the old J. Crew styling, so charming!

  14. dinagideon,

Thanks for the info. That is what I thought...just don't feel like paying $10 for shipping right now with only one item I want to order.

  15. Genny, Boden has these clearance sales twice a year (Fall/Winter and then Spring/Summer styles) and it's pretty much the only time you have to pay their flat $10 shipping. But there's no tax, and you can return items up to seven days after they arrive, so I think it's worth it. But hurry--they're already getting pretty cleaned out! :)

  16. Has anyone noticed how fast the Frosted Donegal Tweed coat is disappearing? I haven't got mine yet, I hope it's good.
On last several promos, I didn't think they took off because it didn't really effect my shopping cart. On this one, every time I refresh, the numbers change. I don't know if it's the items or the promo, but I think they are getting good results from this particular promo.

  17. I actually kind of like the zipper jeans, although they would need to be styled carefully.

  18. Lauren,

Thanks for the help. I still think I am going to wait and think or pass on the Boden sale. Occasionally what I like gets marked down further later in the season...Right now what I like does not seem to be popular item/or color in that item.

  19. Laura, I guess that means I won't be getting a Frosted Donegal Tweed coat on super markdown. :(

  20. Jeanne, you probably will but it may be later in the season. I've seen several items come and go because they weren't at a price I agreed with. I really liked the Oona coat but just couldn't do the price.

  21. anyone know what the Boxing Day sales will be like?

  22. Sorry O/T:
I was at B&M today and asked if they'd price match online sale price for a belt that was still FP. They said NO (my regular PS was not working today). They said they no longer price match online prices. Since when did this change? I told her I wanted to see a written notice of this policy but she brushed it off and said they just did it as a "courtesy" in the past if I was able to get the online sale price.
Oh, and I saw some Minnie pants from the first roll out at $79.50 and now they are &89.50 (new restock). I will NOT be buying it with this price change for sure.

  23. Hehe. Jenna can have most of these! I am still finding metallic "dander" from the glitter minaudiere in my car from 2 weeks ago, when I took it to a holiday party. I can't imagine what the glitter magic wallet would do jostling around the bottom of a handbag. Is there NO quality control?

  24. jcmama,

Others have posted about this same issue on Facebook. Does seem to be policy now.

  26. I was going to wait to decide if I needed the sherpa puffer jacket but between this morning and tonight, colors started disappearing in my size(XS) and now the Shadow color is expected to ship 1/22/10. I think I'll make an order tonight for the jacket in Slate and a couple of other items I had my eye on. Anyone know if they are the same fit and sizing like the ones from last year ?

  27. Off topic I know ....but the Boden sale is pretty awesome! I love the marching coat for $99 and the patent jacket for $67 (yes I am obsessed with patent-and why I LOVE the Patent campo:) No free shipping, but $10 for everything you order isn't bad.

  28. Re: Boden sale. You can still read reviews of items on the boden.co.uk site as they have disappeared from the US one. I read reviews--very mixed on the items I was considering and decided to pass.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Genny-thanks for the heads up on the Boden Reviews- I wondered where they were? I read all of them for the few items I want to order and it helped.

  30. Also, I don't like Boden's 7 day return policy.

I am gone a lot this time of year and YIKES--shipping can take 7-10 business days and then I have ONLY 7 days to return so that time frame can be tricky and I don't want to get stuck with stuff I cannot wear.

  31. I love those heather grey tights shown with the ankle boots but I wish they didn't have wool in them! Too scratchy for me!

  32. Try Smartwool tights. Gorgeous. Don't itch at all.
