Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available in the Spring/Summer sale, or to see some new Fall arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I'm going to check out the grand opening of the new Ontario Mills Outlet in Ontario. The opening is Saturday. I have my 20% off coupon printed and ready to go. I usually am not a huge outlet fan but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'll give a review of the new store on my new blog this weekend.

  2. I just went to the local store and found the extra 20% off sale is currently running. So, I grabbed the beaded stone tee and ruffle swirl tank. I found so many new (Fall) items, and some of them are gorgeous especially the frances cami which fits TTS.

  3. I stopped by my b&m in today and tried on some of the new fall arrivals. Loved the toothpick cords, the frances cami, and the new tees. The 'imperial persimmon' tee had already sold out. I bought a really cute necklace - long gold chain with scattered enamel flowers.
I tried on the downtown field jacket, but I didn't like it. It was too bulky for me. Sale items were still 20% off. They had ONE watercolor floral pencil skirt in a size 6 if anyone is looking! (Kierland COmmons in Scottsdale, AZ)

  4. Won't be making it to my local stores in Atlanta this weekend, but wanted to remind everyone in GA that it's a sales tax holiday

  5. If I do stop by this weekend, it will be to throw a brief glance at the fall merchandise whilst I return a cami from the last visit. I just received an online order and think it's not a good idea to shop again so soon. Very tempted like to check out some of the newer pieces though.

  6. I was in the store today and overheard the SA telling a customer that they were sending all of their sale items out at the end of the day tomorrow. Our store (Thousand Oaks, CA) is small so I don't know if that makes a difference. I was in to return the new Olive dress. I usually love the suiting dresses but the Olive dress does not have a defined waist. When I added a belt, the fabric bunched.

I used my rewards card toward the Field jacket, two belts (including one that is not online that has a larger, hammered, oval buckle) and the new striped tee with the epaulets on the shoulders (like the captain tee but with wider stripes). Crewbie is right that the Field jacket is a heavier, stiff fabric but it is actually very fitted. I have a difficult time fitting in J Crew jackets because I really need an XXS, but this fits with only a little extra room. I tried it on over a navy Isabel dress with the burnished leather belt worn over the jacket.

  7. Stopped by yesterday but didn't have much time to dive into the new arrivals (clock is ticking with work, errands, getting ready for beach). That will have to wait until we get back from vaca. They were having the 20% off FS, so I picked up another pair of cafe capris in British Tan - good basic for $48! And another Jackie in spring daisy.

There was a bag there that I haven't seen online - like the metallic market tote, but it's coated cotton canvas, and lower in price - around $75, I believe. I didn't look closely enough at the tags to get color names but it was in a pale yellow/gold (like spring daisy or a muted citron), a darker khaki (like dark mushroom) and a lighter pink (like shell or blush). I am considering swinging by there today to pick it up in the yellow color. I think it would be a great vacation bag.

  8. Ladies, I have been obsessing about that field jacket but still found the xs to be a tad too big. Waaaaah! Loved the fabric, the color, and the gold buttons. Reminds me of a Barbour jacket (those swim on me). Oh, well.

  9. I stopped by my B&M yesterday and was kind of overwhelmed by how packed with stuff it was (especially since it's been pretty bare for the last month)! They're still in the process of setting up the window displays so things were all over the place. I think that I'm just not ready for fall stuff (summer just really arrived this week, it seems), especially knowing by the time fall does roll around a lot of this stuff will be marked down.

I realized in the fitting room that a lot of the pieces just don't hold up very well to shop wear and being tried on repeatedly. Some of the cardigans already seemed rather stretched out and the chiffon-trimmed items were already frayed/detaching from the piece. I was also concerned about the number of raw-edged pieces - I really liked that boatneck painter tee, but the back neckline looked like it was cut with children's safety scissors! I'm sticking with the plainer items like the blazers, pants, and accessories for now and will wait for markdowns on most of the tops. I did like a striped forever/endless summer cardigan, but not for $95!

  10. "The Headache Tee"

Wonderful in-store tee found yesterday in the San Francisco B+M, #18096, $29.50. Item doesn't show up on-line using the #, so maybe it's a store only?

Style is exactly like the candy tees, a repro-style label, surrounded by tiny beads. For those of us with chronic headaches, it reads:

    Homeopathic Since 1928
    BE-GONE HEADACHE
    POWDER MIXTURE
Dose - Mix one table-spoonful with soda water.
    Take as needed.
    ORIGINAL FLAVOR
    PREPARED BY SIMS&SCHLOSS
GETS YOU THROUGH THE DAY WITH
    A SMILE ON YOUR FACE

    [all centered, old-fashioned fonts]

Great silky cotton, with a drape.

*Bought several for my headachey friends! Looked like it would sell out this weekend.

  12. I went to my b&m yesterday because they sent out an invite to shop the fall collection and get 20% off any purchase over $125. I ended up with the black toothpick jeans, cord matchsticks (weathered wisteria) and toothpicks (faded cement), the frances cami (deep rose), a retail-only haberdashery button down, ribbon-front shirt (champagne), and the dream fluted ruffle vest (light pewter). The PS told me that they didn't get most of the wool items in yet but that I could order them and they would have the red phone CS reps honor the discount. Sooo... I also ordered the camel wool ruffle front coat (which is is limited quantities already and is supposedly running a little small so she recommended I size up) and the shirred wool skirt (heather deep coral - I'm expecting this to be a hit or miss/love it or hate it). Not going to keep it all but at least I'll be able to keep the stuff I love at a discount and won't have to chance waiting on it to go on sale (i.e. - ruffle front coat and frances cami in my size). glad I stayed away from many purchases and sales at jcrew in the past several weeks so that I could actually spend money on the new fall roll-outs.

  13. Bought that "Headache Tee" in my store, too!! Love it. Love the color, the saying, the subtle beading..it's a great find, i think:)

  14. OT ... :)

Has anyone else noticed when adding sale items to the shopping bag, only some (if any) show up as 'Final Sale' upon checking out? I've noticed this my past two orders. Also, when the order comes, the order slip has had some items marked as final sale and others not (different from those marked upon checking out).

Quite a discrepancy and I wanted to know if anyone has been able to return items? As a back up for my next order in the mail, I plan on printing my confirmation email to show the SA there was no mention of final sale on it. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'll be going on Saturday to return a few things (from final sale but they weren't marked that way) and hopefully pick up or order some fall items. I'm hoping for 20% off $125, I handed out those cards to people and as far as I know everyone used them. And I have my rewards card to spend. I'm after the evening primrose cardi and top, and th watercolor tortoiseshell skirt, among other things.

Last time I was there the sale section was pretty sparse. There may be more in it because the new fall arrivals are taking up space. I'll report on anything worthwhile.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm headed up the hill today to the store in Tucson. I'm going to return all the new fall arrivals I got. about $400 worth! (eek), which I reviewed
here. I've also got the new pencil skirt coming today but I just have a feeling it will work out, so I'm not going to wait for the big brown truck to show up tonight (sadly it always comes well after 6 for me).

I'll be sure to report back. I'm hoping to see the evening primrose cardigan in person, and I plan to order a swim skirt via the red phone.

  17. If in your meandering anyone happens to see a pair of Mosaic Cafe Capris size 6, I would love to know. I missed them on the site this morning - they kept popping in and out of my cart by the time I got to the checkout. Thanks as always.
Enjoy your weekend. We finally have sun here!!!

  18. G - just to let you know. I've had the same experience - items not showing as final sale in checkout or on the invoice; but they end up as final sale when I return them. Good luck.

  19. My B&M store doesn't get in much and I work an off shift, so I ordered some stuff online a few days ago and I got them yesterday! I got the butterscotch schoolboy blazer in size 2 petite (it's true to size)...I was expecting for the fit to be off but it's perfect...sleeves are perfect, fit is tailored, and I can button it closed! I also got the bell flower top in light sage and the frances cami in the lavender color and they are both true to size. I really liked the styling of the catalog, so I got the black wool shorts to complete the look. I dropped about 500 bucks but in the end it was more like 400ish bucks with the shipping discount and my school discount (ordered this online).

My two camis were not as flat as I had expected them to be, there was tissue wrapped around the flower structures and the ruffles...still not as poofy as they could be but whatever. I feel like they crammed as much as they could into the smallest possible box, which kind of irritates me considering how large their profit margin is.

  20. ^Snactres:
    Thanks for the timely reviews!
I'm aching for the butterscotch schoolboy blazer, but the web says it is web-only, so I had no hope of seeing it in a store. [Still wondering why it is $10 cheaper than the gray flannel, which is also wonderful.] I also have the frances and bellflower and adore them, layered!

  21. I picked up the evening primrose cardigan last night, IMO it runs small, so for those interested in this one, I would suggest ordering up a size. It is lovely!

  22. OT-- Jcrew Suiting

Does anyone have any experience with the wool gab and the crepe suiting? I have a nice collection of the black 120's pieces but I need to branch out. I was considering ordering the 120's peplum jacket and another pencil skirt in the butterscotch color. However, if I do this, it means I can't order the schoolboy blazer in butterscotch (because really who needs 15 of the exact same thing). Any advice you could give would be great!

  23. marietta,
totally disagree on the sweater fit. I sized DOWN! in it. I was surprised. I tried on 5 sweaters in the print just to be sure!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Marietta and Genny - I bought my regular size in the evening primrose cardi. So strange that three people have three different fits. Of course, I can never wear a button-up cardi completely buttoned up due to a larger chest, so that may be the reason. :)

  25. Hi all,

    This is a re-post from last weekend.. Still, I thought it might be useful to some of my fab JCAs :}

Just a quick heads- up I acutally found some nice things at the Gilroy outlet!

Usually, it's very hit or miss there. Since I was in the area, returning an AT item for a friend, I stopped by the JC outlet & found:

    Suiting -
City fit trousers #99223 in black & grey reg $138 on sale for $95
Tailored pencil skirt #95737 in black, grey & navy pinstripe was $120 now $75
    3 button jacket #95735 in black & grey org $238 now $170

The fit wasn't as sharp as I'd like for me, but it might be worth stocking up for a fellow JCA

    Also found
    Seersucker -
    3 button jacket $50
    Trousers $60

Put on the jacket -- too boxy! I could hear FFM, Gigi, Princess, soon to be Phd & all my fellow jca's screaming "Oh noooo! TAKEITOFFTAKEITOFFTAKEITOFF!"
It's a pity 'cause I'd love some new summer layers for work.

Also saw a lot of jackie & tartine wannabes for around $30-$40. They had some pretty colours, esp purples, blues & peacock. I just can't bring myself to buy 'em when they don't feel as soft & durable as the real deal.

Oh & speaking of imitations... They had several cord miniskirts & a few cord pencil skirts with the made-for-outlet 3 diamond logo as well. The pencil skirt fits well, & is in a good basic grey, but I decided not to hand over $50 when I had the real deal (purchased for $20 during HOHOHO)hanging in my closet at home.

In the end, I walked out of the store with a few gifts for the men in my life - ties & socks mostly.

On the plus side, they did honour my edu discount!

    HTH everyone,

    Heather:D

    P.S. I'm also hoping to hear a review about suiting. I luuuuv my 120s & plan on buying a butterscotch skirt as well. I wish they had brought that colour out earlier as it would have helped my summer wardrobe. Oh well, better late than never :}

  26. Genny & Math Teacher - wow, unbelieveable that we all have different fits with this cardi. I had ordered my usual XS, and it was too snug. When I was at the Madison b&m, I picked up a S, and even the PS said the fit on this cardi runs a bit small.... hmmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  27. @G - You can return items that have no mark at most of the store. I have no experience otherwise. There was one time I called CS for the exchange (since there's no mark on the item) and she refused to do the exchange, so I called again (and had another CS) and she did the exchange order for me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. As of yesterday, the NYC store at 347 Madison was still offering 20% off sale. Had a good selection of the white jeans, and some of the vintage slim jeans priced at $79.99 in sizes 28 and up. Also saw a bunch of Cotton-silk ruffle swirl tanks in a selection of colors.

I had no luck with the sale section and ended up going full price on the Evening primrose cardi and the Textured jersey open crewneck painter tee which btw is my new favorite tee! Not as sheer as it would seem and looks very nice paired with a skirt and a scarf or chunky necklace for work - I love that the neckline is somewhere between a typical crewneck and a scoopneck.

  29. Hi Emily,

I also have mostly 120s suiting, but recently got the Wool Gabardine 2 button jacket and the wool gabardine pencil skirt, in beechwood. I like it just as much as the super 120s. It feels more... substantial, if that's the right word, but still lightweight and totally wearable year round.
And the beechwood is kind of a unique color, too. It is beige but sort of has a green tinge... hard to describe, but I love it!

I don't like the wool crepe, it is too thin and delicate and wrinkles more easily than the other fabrics.

    HTH!

  30. Stores are too far away from me, but I still manage to shop; called my PS and ordered classic fir broken in chino in desert olive, the old school wide stripe tie in coffee/black and sueded fleece in indigo. The fleece looks cool as the ribbing and sides are a different colour/wash than the rest.

Any comments ladies on what I ordered?

  34. I saw it like 2 days ago... the ruffle swirl tank was $49.99.

  36. Stopped in today; wasn't overwhelmed by early fall items. I tried on the schoolboy blazer & I definitely need petite in this as the sleeves on the regular hung past my fingertips; of course, J.Crew doesn't carry petites in stores :-(

Saw the piped blazer, but wasn't crazy about the quality of the wool. Also saw tees that looked as if they were decorated with shredded toilet paper. No me gusto, j.crew :-D

    ReplyDelete
  37. I went into my local jcrew last night and was underwhelmed. Most of what I'm lusting over isn't in stores and on the website (the wool skirt, the light sage frances, the Ethereal cardi. I tried on the Frances cami in white and lavendar and didn't like either on myself. I'm finding this to run big too. I tried on the Ribbon front blouse too and while it was cute, I didn't love it. I posted pics on my blog. I think I'm going to place an online order.

Lauren - I ordered that Wool Ruffle Front camel coat last weekend - I have a full review on my blog, but it definitely doesn't run small at all, I don't think you'll need to size up. Mine's pretty TTS and I probably could have even worn a size smaller. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was in the Westport store today and I saw a new graphic tee that made me laugh. It said something like "Headache Be-Gone". It was one of the vintage faux advertising labels. As a person who suffers from the occassional migraine, I almost bought it thinking maybe it would magically cure my next headache. But then I figured it might be bad karma to wear the word "headache" across my chest. Anyway, it was actually a very pretty color and it had beading (which I love) and it was only about $29. I may have to reconsider...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Professor & Mrs. Anketell, I just read your comments! Glad you like it, too. I thought maybe I was crazy, but it is a pretty shirt. Now I must go back this weekend and get me a "headache tee"...

    ReplyDelete
  40. SallyO:

You must get this tee--as an aside, it's fantastic with the black velvet blazer, heels, and matchsticks.

Neurology shows us that acknowledging the headache is part of shortening it. Be-gone! will help. It makes us smile and, surprisingly, a genuine smile tricks the brain into thinking pain is diminished. Just say'n.

    ReplyDelete
  41. O.K., Professor, I will buy it, but I ain't giving up my other little helpers (Excedrin, Tylenol, Advil...)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was in Bellevue yesterday. The shelves and racks were quite empty--the SA explained that a shipment had been delayed and they were unpacking boxes in the back. When I asked about the Eden jacket she was nice enough to go dig through the boxes and find me one in the Iris purple. The jacket is very cute with a feminine fit at the waist but IMO runs a little large--I'm not usually a P in jackets but I ordered one to compare.

Emily, just to second Em, I am a fan of the gab and the 120s and own numerous pieces in both. I plan on a peplum jacket if we get a private sale code soon. (Interestingly, the new peplum jacket is $42 less than the older Lizza.)

The crepe is pretty but I have pets and the crepe seems to be a real lint magnet. It is easier to de-fuzz the gab and 120s.

  43. Ok I just got back from a B&M, and fall is in the air! The pinks and lavendars are much softer, thank goodness, than their bold online looks! I tried on the Frances cami, gag me, it felt really cheap, and not as smooth and silky as the I can't remember the name of it with the pleats from last year. But treu to sizem interesting. The tee's are adorable, and felt more sturdy? Maybe less sheer is the way to describe them, than seasons before. I felt like some of the cuts are more slim, maybe they are getting a grip again on their sizing! But the sale section, sad sad! Although an additional 20% off. The downtown field jacket in person, darling!! Not in my size at the B&M, but definately more green in the mossy brown than you can see in the online picture! But so so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  44. A little help please!

I saw a gray short sleeved tee with a charcoal/black screen printed design on the front last night at a store, but now I would like to find online and I can't!

Does anyone know the name of the tee I'm talking about? Maybe an item # or something? I can't make it back to a store for a while.

    TIA!

  45. Has anyone seen the latest release of the Icon trench in stores? Online the new colors are light khaki and black. The photos of the light khaki look darker than the photos of the khaki from the release earlier this year, both sets of photos are online. Can anyone tell me if it is more true to the light khaki or the dark khaki?

    TIA

    ReplyDelete
  46. I dont plan to stop by the B&M this weekend because I had the JCA event at Columbia Mall on Wednesday. I do loveee evrything that I purchased that day:

field jacket in dark green color
    frances cami in rose
    a few necklaces
    one bracelet
    ruffle scoopneck vest in navy
Not sure of the names of the other items, but I did try on the eden in a size 0, and although the fit was great, the armlength was a bit short. The 2 long will be too big, so I will have to pass on that item.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lindsey B. - I know the tee and don't see it online. The style# is 18078, $29.50. They may not end up selling it online, so you might want to call your store so they can hold it for you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lindsey B: The tee is called the Slub Cotton Stamped Paisley Tee and like Gigi said...it will probably be a retail only item.

I also noticed on my receipt that the printed Frances blouse is actually called the *Starbox Print Christen Cami*, so it's actually a *Christen* and not a *Frances*. :)

  50. I meant to say that the newer light khaki on the Icon trench is lighter than the earlier version of khaki. Got all wacky with my khakis.

There is a version of the slub cotton stamped paisley tee available online for $29.50 item 18078. It is only showing in ivory and must be sold out in the warm thistle (dusty light purple) color that I purchased online earlier this summer. Maybe they will bring back other colors online for fall. Maybe not. It's really a nice tee, very soft fabric and pretty. The warm thistle is a beautiful color that should transition well into fall.

    ReplyDelete
  51. ShuLvr: That isn't the same tee as the Grey with black/charcoal stamped tee...it's a different print. Both Ema and Gigi have the grey one on in a pic on their blogs. :)

  52. Gigi has it on in the last pic under the Black Eden blazer in this post: Click Here . :)

  57. I just got back from the Tucson store. They had a complete size run (XS to XL) of the headache tee. The sale section for women took up a whole wall, same for men.

I ended up with yet another corsage tee in dark charcoal. I love this tee; I already have it in ivory, lavender, and breeze. I also got a perfect fit falling ruffles tank in the slate. I never would have even tried it on if not for my husband. I think it will be cute under a cardigan.

I finally saw the evening primrose cardi and ordered it via the red phone in my size. It's really pretty; the colors are very dramatic. I also tried on the long cotton v-neck cardigan. I am almost 5'9" and it went past my bottom. It did provide a nice lean silhouette but my husband made a face so I did not get it; he thought it was way too long.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I received the Primrose Evening Top and the Vintage Cord Pencil Skirt in Glazed Pecan. Highly recommend both pieces. The Primrose top fits TTS and the silk is more substantial than that the garland cami and other silk camis from the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  59. My local store is still running the 20% off sale, but it is very picked over. I bought several new arrivals; the frances in the rose color, the wool ruffle vest in navy, the grand corsage shellt in light sage, imperial tee, cream bow shell, and another tee that I can't find on the website--it's cream with a brown and mint green beading design. I think it might be going back bc I can't shake the thought that it looks like a uterus! Can't wait to try these all on again and do a review!

  62. Finally made it in to my local B&M to check out the new arrivals and the only thing I had to have was the Ombre Silk Scarf- I just loved the plum color- Wisteria Raisin. I will likey have to order the Primrose cardi as well-very cute! (my store only had 3 left) I did receive my Frances Cami this week and wore it the next day and cannot tell you how many compliments I got. I hate to admit it but I might be a loving it more than my Victorias.

  64. Thanks to everyone for the tee info! I'm going to email my store now.

Also, I went to the store with the intention of purchasing the safari jacket in an XS, but it ran so big, I didn't. Then, last night I went to F21 with my sister and found an awesome look-alike for about $22! I'm writing a review on my blog tonight! For the price and fit, I actually like it better than the JC version.

Did anyone's store get the Minnie pant in? I was really looking forward to seeing it but the store I went to didn't have them! I tried on the scattered glass necklace and LOVE it. I guess that's what I'll be using my rewards card for!

  66. Hi everyone! New to posting! I went to my store on Wednesday and bought a lot of new fall items. Didn't really look at the sale stuff. My PS put some great and versatile looks together, including the ruffle vest with the herringbone button down shirt and the field jacket. We put a belt over the vest but I love the suggestion of putting a belt over the jacket--will have to try that! I also got the pixie pants (love them) and the ankle toothpick jeans and the frances ruffle cami in lavendar and the gray blazer (I think it's the school boy blazer but it has black piping which is different from the website). I think that everything pretty much fit TTS except the pixie pants which I had to go up a size in.

Someone said they bought the cord pencil skirt...is that fitting TTS? I tried on the pencil mini for size comparison but I don't know if that was a good comparison.

  67. MCC: I am glad that I am not the only one that thinks that tee looks like a female body part, it is on-line #18077.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Got the Headache tee as well, there were only L's left so it must be as popular as it sounds here! Also the Frances in Rose, lovely, but I do like the Victoria a little better for layering, the pleats seem to stay a bit flatter than the more ruffly Frances.

I may be in the minority but the Eden jacket doesn't work for me. The sleeves were too long, and the gathers at the pockets hit me just in a bad place, made me look very "hippy."

I agree with an earlier post that some of the fall items were already starting to show signs of wear and stretching out from trying on, esp. the cardis. I did get the Evening Primrose cardi and I had to size up.

Sale section was still 20% but worthless, though there has been a big update this AM online if anyone is looking for popbacks.

  69. Lindsey B.-my store had a TON of the Minnie pants in stock. Tried them on and really liked them. they are full of stretch and super black. They have belt loops and a side zip. I am 5'6" and they just touched my ankle. This summer I was wearing a 4 in the City Fit pants and I tried these in a 4 but sized up to a 6 for more of a comfort level. The 4s seemed a tad TOO snug! I have to say, when I put them on, I thought, "I had an exact pair of these from the Limited in 1996"!
I'm sure your store will get them. I'm in Milwaukee (Mafair Mall) and while our store is a nice size, we don't seem to get many "special" items. I like the darkness and the fit. They are comfy and will be perfect with flats in fall and tucked in boots this winter! Good luck

  71. FFM the gray tee is the one I thought. I think it was Ema who mentioned she saw animals in the design and now I can't think of anything else when I see it. I find that style overwhelming and dark. The online version of the slub cotton stamped paisley tee is much prettier IMO. Also saw a photo on someone's blog of Jennifer Garner wearing the ivory online version.

OK, the headache tee is kind of whimsical but I am really in my own world sometimes because this does not appeal to me at all. Ditto for the Imperial tee. I never went for the candy tees either so I guess I'm just not into wearing advertisements, even if they are made-up.

I won't be back in the U.S. until late August so I'll be ordering online from Canada this weekend. Would love to hear comments on the baby ruffle mini or hammered metal skirt, if anyone has tried them IRL. Maybe they are not out in stores just yet, or maybe there is just no interest in these items. I will definitely be ordering the collection wool pencil skirt after Marietta gave it a favorable review. Can't wait to wear that one this fall.

  72. I went to a store last weekend (Southdale in MN) to return some non-final sale items and it was completely empty. One section of the store was blocked off by a sheet hanging down, maybe in an attempt to make the place seem less empty but it made it look worse! The store had essentially only the following items: one pair of khaki shorts, one sweatshirt, some jeans, and one t-shirt. oh and some cute socks- the only cute thing in the store! This recession business sucks :(

    ReplyDelete
  73. morning all. can anyone confirm that the ruffle front coat (so cute!) is an online only item? i looked online and in the catalog but couldn't find an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jacquelyn, I'm in Tucson too! I'm heading to the store this morning. Did UPS deliver the pencil skirt? Is it the pink one? I always want to know about the pencil skirts, fit and so on, because I wear them to work all the time. Let me know what you thought of it.

  76. I just went to the local store and got Polly Silk Cami Twilight Flower $98( item #17141; not online). It’s black with dark blue flowers and ruffles- so beautiful.

Anyone else got this top? Does it come in other colors?

  77. OT- I am travelling to Arizona and will be in Scottsdale - which store is worth a visit?

    TIA.

  78. Does anyone think another 20% FS coupon will be coming soon? I'm debating whether I should just order or wait.. And also, if the item does say "FS" when you put it in your shopping bag, is it really FS? Thx!

  79. Dear Shulvr, I'm glad someone else also noticed the difference in color on the icon trench. i thought i was the only one obsessed :) i emailed jcrew actually and put their comment on the jcrewobsession.blogspot.com. I believe its the same color just the way the lighting was at a photoshoot.

  80. ShuLvr: I guess I'm in the minority on that grey tee because I actually own it, and really like it. :)

OT: Does anyone else's Metallic Gallery Hobo have a weird smell to it? The one I received does, and I'm wondering if that's normal AND if so, does the smell go away with time? TIA!

  81. Shana:

I found that the Vintage Pencil Skirt fits TTS to on the smaller side. I ordered petite sizing (P0) and it fits similarly to the petite suiting pieces from Jcrew. To me, this is perfect as am usually sized out.

  82. FFM, I recall someone posting about a funky smell to the Gallery bag a few weeks ago. Hopefully it will fade away.

I like the gray tee as well, but I have so many tees right now I need to send some to goodwill before I buy any more.

No B&M for me this weekend, entertaining visitors at home and cooking up a storm with DH tonight. Just getting a couple recipes from recipezaar.com right now.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thank you CaptainCrew! I sure hope the smell goes away...I don't think I'll be able to carry it if it doesn't. I was thinking of calling to ask for an exchange bag, but thought I'd ask here first to find out if the smell is *normal*, or if I just got a bad one. Thanks again and have fun this weekend! :)

  84. I was at the thousand oaks j.crew yesterday. Sale items are 20 percent off, but slim pickings. I did pick up a pair of the jakarta shorts for 29.99 plus 20 percent off. They had some in sizes 6 and 8 I believe.

  85. Went to the new Ontario Outlet today, not much on sale, but a few goodies. Tartine cardigans, some Elizabeth style Camis, tissue tees, cords, some cute accessories. They did have quite a few of the Antonia dresses from last summer in the flame color for $40, Copelle Paisley Cardis, Campo de Fiore Sweater Dresses. The outlet has promise, but is over priced as usual.

  86. FFM re: the funky smelling bag - try placing the bag (plastic wrap removed) inside a cardboard box with a small dish of baking soda for a day or two. The soda should absorb the odors and the cardboard will let it the bag breathe during the process. It's probably the metallic coating although I think I also read a post about the Editor tote having a funky smell and there is no metallic coating on that one. Was that your post Em? I can't remember... I had funky-smelling shoes once, brand new pair. I poured baking soda inside and vacuumed it out a couple days later, all was fine but it seemed a bit odd. If it were me I might call CS just to hear what they have to say.

  87. I received the eden jacket yesterday. I liked the fit but the shawl collar just didn't work for me! I'm so disapointed. The shawl collar doesn't really enhance the structure that the jacket should have.

Something else I noted is that while I love the details (ruched pockets, shirred waist), the overall jacket makes me look wider than I'm! I compared it with my bella and ecole...These two somehow elongates my body overall, but I didn't get that feel withe Eden.

One thing I want to add is that I love the copper color!

I will be waiting for the Eden to be on sale. Definitely not a full-price purchase for me.

  88. Canadian: There are two stores in Scottsdale. The one at Fashion Square (an awesome mall) is really small. The one at Kierland Commons is bigger and has crewcuts. The best store is actually a bit south on the freeway in Chandler. It is women's only and gets all the clearance.

Desert Flower: I got the denim pencil skirt. I have a post set-up for tomorrow for my review. Suffice it to say I was disappointed. I had good luck at the local store yesterday. The PS was there and was super-helpful.

  89. FFM,

My Metallic Gallery bag had a strange odor at first too! Thankfully, the odor disappeared quickly without any interventions! Hopefully, yours should do the same!

    ReplyDelete
  90. newyork0311: I also find that the Eden makes me look wide. I love my ecole and bellas... but the Eden just isn't as flattering! I haven't tried a tall yet, which I really need, but I can't imagine the problem going away just from the added length.

  91. Question...does anyone have the Merino Petals Scoopneck Sweater? Wanting to know more about it.

Also, I tried on a shirt today that I'm assuming is in-store only...it's very similar to last fall's teagan ruffle front swiss dot shirt (same price, too $88). This one doesn't have the swiss dots but it comes in ivory and navy. Very cute, however very sheer. IRL picture on my blog.

  92. Southdale was packed with new items--more than MOA in Bloomington,MN. Sale section was good too. This was Thursday.

  93. princess - I have also wondered about a 20% coupon, but I decided to order something as a popback. For us in CA, we have a tax of 9.25% so we're only saving about 10% after taxes. I got free shipping and that was worth more than a net 10% savings of what I paid, plus I got the item I want. If you want something and there are only a few left, you might want to suck it up and not play the coupon game.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Em: I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that problem with the Eden jacket. something else that makes me a bit disappointed about this jacket is the buttons are a bit cheap-looking to me....Also, there are no details on the sleeves at the wrist...:(

    ReplyDelete
  95. FFM - My large metallic hobo doesn't have a strong smell. It has a plastic/waxy mixed w/crayons smell, but only if you inhale deeply. It's not strong. Not like the box of Joleys I opened. Both pairs were sooooo strong. I agree that the scent goes away.

  96. Jacquelyn, I had very good luck at the Tucson store yesterday. I got a twisted v-neck tee in white (can you believe I don't own a white tee?) for $7 and a neat new release shirt, navy crinkle cotton with a slight metallic sheen, for $54.

Is the PS you use Doreen? I love her, she's so helpful.

On the red phone I ordered the primrose cardi, primrose top, the merino ethereal cardi in navy and buff, and the tortoiseshell skirt. I'm very excited to get those!
I stopped into Ann Taylor and bought a ruffle front silk blouse in a lemon/lime color that is exactly like the yellowy color in the primrose cardi, on sale for $39.

Sorry the denim pencil skirt didn't work for you. It looks so great in the pictures.

For those of you used to seeing my weekly Looking To Buy post, you'll be happy to know I'm no longer looking for the Cate leather slingbacks in light chartreuse. I scored them on ebay yesterday!

  97. Has anyone tried on the silk evening primrose Brynn dress? Wondering (since the cut is kind of an odd one) if it's a true empire waist, or how it fits, or what. Love the fabric.

  99. My review of things, keep in mind these reflect my personal preference & how things fit my petite frame:

I will start with those I left behind. Embellished tees - been there, done that. Enough JCrew, move on already. I see F21, AT rehasing these stuff at lower prices.

Frances - thinner silk & stiffer ruffles compared to Victoria

Eden - made me look fat. No wonder the model's pose on the catalog & online is always sideview. The front view online was cropped midway to remove the hip portion.

The maybes: Crewneck cashmere. Went to the store to buy the heather hydrangea & rustic orange but color not as saturated as online. Hope they will turn out deeper colors this fall. I'm missing the peony, dark violet, heather vine of last year. Men's cashmere colors nicer: violet & burgundy. This year's fit of the crewneck is better though so will buy if they turn out deeper colors with the next rollouts.

Evening primrose cardigan - print is lovely but hubby said color made me look old. Thinking about it though...

Blazer with the black piping. Like its classic simplicity but proportions wrong for my petite frame. May buy if this comes in petite.

Now what I bought: farrow ribbon top, scout chino, navy new teagan (less boxy and less stiffer fabric than last year's), tiny buds perfect shirt. I feel these are classic pieces that will hold up better through time. Looking forward to the next rollout....

  100. Jacquelyn - Thank you for the info on JC stores. Hopefully they are all within driving distance, I'll have a full day for shopping before deparing to Santa Barbara the next day. Can't wait, as we don't have a store in Canada. Two Anthro stores in Toronto - visited the posh Yorkville location yesterday - what a treat! Gorgeous fall arrivals. Small sizes where gone in many items I looked at, huge lineup at the register - as far as I know, nothing was given out for free...

  101. Disapointed with the new Factory store at the Ontario Mills. Check out more of my review at my blog. www.beautifulpracticalandvaluable.blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  102. Thanks Genny for the Southdale info! I was afraid the stores were all going to have low inventory because of the recession, but I probably just went the wrong weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Canadian, if you have a full day for shopping you definitely need to go to Scottsdale Fashion Square. That mall has everything you could want, mid-level to high-end. The J.Crew at Chandler Mall is about 30-45 minutes south on a couple of freeways. You should be able to find everything at Fashion Square---it's just that that particular store is in another store's old space and it seems really cramped.

Anyway, I live in Tucson (about two hours south of Scottsdale) but when I do go to Phoenix I make sure to go to Fashion Square. It has many nice side areas adjacent to the mall with tons of shopping. If you really wanted to go to the J.Crew outlet it's about 30 minutes north over a couple of freeways (but i personally don't think the outlet is all that great). If it were me I would spend a full day at Fashion Square!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Did anyone get to try the primrose silk top? I'm curious about size. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Jacquelyn - Thank you very much!
I'll do as you've advised - a full day at the Fashion Square! Only a few more sleeps...

  106. Went to an outlet this weekend, and there were some nice things there. As others have mentioned, the abstract rose print is back, in the victoria blouse, shirred skirt (or at least similar shape to the new wool shirred skirt), belt, headband and scarf. I tried on the blouse and skirt. if you're petite, these probably aren't going to work for you, but they are cute. For that reason, I had to pass on the top and skirt, so I got a headband to satiate my abstract rose cravings. :)

Other prints back bearing a factory label: florentine (short sleeve sweater, pencil skirt), watercolor (scarf, belt, headband), leopard (in factory version of the simone jacket, I haven't seen a retail version of it in a while, but it looked the same to me).

Also, several retail items were mixed into the sale section: metallic jacquard zoey dress, florentine capri pant, oxford stripe/seersucker blazer, polka dot silk twill top, etc.

  108. simply jcrew - I just got your p'vore message about this top! Thank you so much! One more question - does it come numerically sized, or S, M, L, etc?

Thank you again! you made my day!

  109. kater, it's numerically sized; TTS.
I normally wear size 2-4 and I got this top in size 2.

  110. Wanted to add... just came back from shopping at my local B&M on my lunch break and as I was walking through the store with a new cashmere cardi draped over my arm (trying unsuccessfully to convince myself to put it down) I was approached by a SA who told me that they've changed their cashmere so that it no longer pills the way the old cashmere did. She said it may pill a little bit initially but that will be the extent, as it's designed to last for multiple seasons. Needless to say I bought the sweater! Now let's hope what she said is true...
