Madewell Email: Rail Straight. Fits great. Only $78.

"Thanks!" goes to Marietta who shared with us an email from J.Crew's sister store, Madewell.

The email features their Rail Straight Jeans (in "Madewell Wash"... whatever that is). {Incidentally, Posey wrote a great review for a pair of Madewell's Rail Straight Garment-Dyed Jeans awhile back. To read click here.} The jeans are described "You'll love them (and so will your wallet)" and retails for $78. The outfit is completed with the Tee Cardigan, Tomboy Tank, Fringed Summer Scarf, Yarn-Dyed Madras Scarf, the Pattern Broome Street Bag, and Skinny-Strap Havianas (I didn't know they offered Havianas!).

They are also reminding us that they are (1) having a summer sale with up to 50% off at their stores, (2) on Facebook, & (3) on Twitter.

As far as the skinny jeans look go... I ended up buying a pair of Matchstick Jeans (Item 98546; $98.00, now $69.99, in stores for $39.99) from J.Crew a few weeks back. I am normally a trouser jean kind of gal. However, after seeing how popular the look was in Paris (refer to this post), I thought I should own a pair. Although I have yet to wear them (it's too hot to wear jeans right now), I will probably* wear them in the Fall with a pair of boots. (*I write "probably" because it really depends on how comfortable I feel showcasing my bum & hips!) ;)

What are your thoughts on the Rail Straight Jeans look? Has this style won you over in the last few months? Do you think you will try it?

Quick Poll: Do you like the skinny-jean style?

  1. I love the Madewell rail straight jeans. They are not skintight skinny jeans, like the JCrew toothpick ones, for example. They just skim the body. I find them very flattering! However, I am "rail straight" myself with not much in the hip area so that may have something to do with it...

  2. I really like the skinny jean look...I'm a real shoe gal, and I think skinny jeans show off your shoes better than any other jean cut. I think that some brands look better on me than others...once they're broken in, they tend to be really flattering, even though I am not in the least bit rail-straight.

  3. I'm more of a skinny-jean girl, too.

I have a couple of pairs of trouser jeans and wider-leg jeans, but I never wear them. I put them on and can't find the right shoes to go with them. So, I just naturally gravitate to the skinny-legged jeans instead.

I just ordered a pair of the rail straight ones from Madewell, so I guess I'll find out how I feel about them when they come.

  5. I find the comment about not having shoes to go with trouser and wider leg jeans hilarious. Why would that be an issue? I wear all kinds of jeans and find shoes to go with jeans a non-issue.

  7. I love skinny jeans! It's the only thing I wear. Wait, I also have a pair of J.Crew's boyfriend jeans. They don't have to be skintight, I wear "straight leg" jeans. They look great with heels and flats, and they're they only kind of jean that you can wear tucked into boots.

  8. Can any of you lovely JCAs comment on how the JC Matchstick jeans fit compared to their Toothpick? I love the look of skinny jeans, just not on me, apparently :) I ordered and returned the Toothpick ankle jeans recently...they were only meh on me. I wonder if the Matchsticks would be better if they "skim" the leg instead of hugging it?

  9. I love skinny, straight jeans. They look great with the strappy summer sandals. I tuck mine into Glenbraes and other boots in the winter and the skinny ones don't bag at the ankles like the matchsticks or other looser jeans. They give a much sleeker look.

I agree with haus-frau, it is easier to find shoes to go with the skinny leg jeans. With the wide legs I feel they have to be a little bit on the long side to get the break just right over the shoe and then they can hang down too far and be a bit sloppy. Maybe I'm just not choosing the right shoes or maybe I'm just too picky.

  10. While I like the look of skinny jeans, I have yet to find a pair that I like on me. I plan to try the toothpick on next time I visit my b&m. I wish that someone would make skinny jeans with a mid rise instead of always a low rise.

  12. The skinny jean is probably going to stay awhile. The WSJ just did a piece on how the trend has passed over to the guys, with mass retailers like Levis and the Gap rolling out new styles in that vein:
