Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I went earlier this week, but unfortunately most of what I wanted to try on wasn't in store. The SA told me this rollout was the first of the new designer. They're expecting a couple more Liberty prints to debut as "impact pieces" for the holidays in the Oct and Nov collections

    1. Terrifying thought - more JC vocabulary.

    2. If that was your work you too would seek anonimity!

    3. WFF: Good point! The store I visit occasionally (2 hours away) refers to "the design team." I thought that I read somewhere that there is a woman in charge of design who was at J.Crew in the past and then had been at Victoria's Secret. Not sure if that's accurate.

      Delete
    4. They didn't name the designer, I don't think it's been widely publicized. Jacqueline, I think you're thinking of Jan Singer? She was briefly the CEO.

      Delete
    5. Amy Romanowsky is VP of women’s design. Libby Wadle is CEO. Think Ms Libby should go back to running Madewell.

      Delete
    6. @WFF, ha. They can kick out all the Liberty prints they want, the only “impact pieces” will most likely be of inferior quality impacted by the lack of buyers.

  5. I actually bit on this promo, although I have bought significantly less this hear than in the past FIFTEEN years.

I am a sucker for Liberty prints, so I got the Elysian Day floral button down (extra 60% off today) and the Ros floral button down. I just ordered these on Monday and received them yesterday, already. I knew I would love the Elysian Day print but I also love the Ros print -- online it looks mostly white, and I prefer the more vibrant Liberty prints, but in person, it is really really pretty and definitely more floral than white.

I just placed another order today, and am glad I waited, as most of these were an additional 60% off today. I got both washable silk print camis, a few cotton poplin pajama pants and boxer shorts, and a white slouchy boyfriend jean (for $16!!) -- I love the looser jeans, although I am keeping my skinnys, as I love them for tall boots, which I wear daily in winter -- in non pandemic mode, at least. (I am keeping fingers crossed that we will get out of the house this winter!)

How does the ros floral fit ?

      Delete
    2. Ros floral also comes up 50 off

      Delete
    3. Would you recommend normal size or size down for the liberty shirts ?

      Delete
    4. Hi Kate, yes the Ros floral is 50%, not 60%, but it was already more highly discounted and is only $34 after discounts, a great price for Liberty. I am a size 2/4 in coats, but always buy 4/6 in shirts because I don't like shirts to bind at all at the shoulders. In Liberty, I almost always get 6, and that worked for both of these classic fit shirts.

      Delete
    5. I forgot to add to my comments about looser jeans, I really recommend the 9" vintage straight fits. I have the white, the black, and the Wainscott washes and love them all.

These are on sale now, but limited range in regular fit, and I'm not sure how the petites fit. It used to be that I would order one size up in petites, but Madewell seems to have changed their sizing so that the regular and petite sizes fit basically the same, just with different lengths (which I like). Not sure if JC has done the same.

Also, for these jeans specifically, I am only 5'3" but I got the regular fit, and they hit right above my ankle, much as is shown online, so the petites must be really cropped.

    6. Thanks Audrey! I needed up getting the elesian print! It’s not final sale! Went with zero smaller one of my sizes and the 2 reviews said size down! Will see !

  6. I made a purchase today with the new promo. My last purchase was July 2. Was glad to use up rewards. I hadn't perused the sale section thoroughly since my July purchase and was surprised at some of the (frankly ugly) things I saw. There was a pair of pants with a scarf border that had a thick horizontal white strip right at the upper thigh... all I could so was shake my head. And such lazy silhouettes with the ruched busts for sundresses and faded colors. I bit on 3 things, mostly due to older reviews from other JCAS:
    1. Baird McNutt Irish linen shirt dress in flax: I always see Lynn post about these linen shirts and even though it's already past linen season, it did look really comfy. I liked the dropped shoulder and liked that I wear as both a coverup and a shirtdress with a slip under. I don't own anything in that flax color, but seems like it would be nice paired with brown leather and simple gold jewelry.
    2. The striped slim chino: Kate reviewed them awhile ago and said they were comfy and ran a bit big, which kind of appealed to me in a "if I'm going to wear pants with a zip and waist, they need to be soft and not binding!" way. So I ordered one size down AND petite. Hopefully they fit.
    3. Tretorn Rawlins 8 sneakers: I haven't worn this style of Tretorn before - I used to wear the slip-on ones which were so comfy. I liked the sporty look of these - they remind me of my New Balances, and I love the green. Not sure about fit and size, but if they're too small, my mom will appreciate them.

And if these don't work out - I'm going to try what Kate does and return to a store! I haven't tried to return a final sale in 2 years but I am emboldened by Kate!!

    1. @eeps, the flax color is very nice. I hope you will like it and enjoy wearing it. I have the older fit from last year and it’s a rather unique color in a good way. I’m even wearing a couple of those colors with jeans and they great. I agree with you on the ugly items. Just awful. Have a great weekend and hope you enjoy nice weather.

      Delete
    2. My rockofelar store has been good to me. Today I had non sale items! So it was easy !

      Delete
    3. Yes, Eeps, too many ugly things in some horrible colors, IMO. I carefully perused the sale section, and the only thing I ordered was a long white cotton/linen robe (AY360) that came to $35.99. It is final sale, but I don't think it will be much of a problem since it's just a robe, and the size is XXS-XS. My guess is that it will run large, and perhaps it will shrink a bit, which I tend to hope for these days.

As I looked at things that I don't need, I asked myself if I would want anything at 75% off? No. For free? Not much really. Even if things were a super bargain, I don't need to add items that are either not useful or a complete love.

Another words I kept seeing in the descriptions: "drapey."

      Delete
    4. Eeps, love the Baird McNutt linen shirt in flax. Those shirts were one of the bright spots of the season. Lovely quality, timeless, sophisticated. You won’t regret that purchase.

      Delete
    5. @MmeJacqueline, Continue to agree with you and Eeps, about the ugly items. “Drapery” ugly period. It appears Jcrew is continuing their philosophy that everyone must be overweight due to the pandemic or that all of us want to hide something that they we think they need to. It’s sloppy and unflattering to anyone of any size in my opinion. I do not want oversized anything including cashmere. If I want oversized, I will grab one of my husbands sweaters and achieve the same look.

      Delete
    6. @Lynn: Yes, I think that best explains it that the J.Crew "design team" decided that everyone got way too comfortable in loose ("drapey" and "relaxed") clothing while sitting around eating too much resulting in pandemic pounds. Exactly right that we can size up if we want that look. No thanks. I will remain wearing and enjoying my tailored clothing that fits properly with waistbands and zippers rather than elastic.

I can no longer wear J.Crew shirts since the new "slim" is not as slim, and darts have been removed. I don't have any sweats, and I probably wouldn't purchase those from JC if I thought I needed them.

Some of the colors....Egad! There is one that is so very unappealing to me. It is sort of peach/beige and very drab looking. I think my skin might blend into that shade, and then I would be nearly invisible.

I hope that winter/holiday is better. I don't want wool pants with an elastic waist.

      Delete
    7. I hate that peachy beige too! There is a puff sleeve short sleeve blouse that hit sale and i think it’s cute but all those colors will look horrible on me.

      Delete
    8. @Suz Has: That color is the same as a certain flavor of cat food that I serve my critters.

      Delete
    9. On what planet did these people learn English? “Drapey” sounds like the unwanted lovechild of “flowy” and “strappy.”

      Delete
    10. @MmeJacqueline - I can no longer wear J.Crew shirts either. I need darts!

      Delete
    11. @Jeanne: The slim perfect shirt was nicely fitted. I wonder how much JC saved by removing those darts. The classic shirt is like a tunic on me.

      Delete
  7. I placed a couple orders today. I have a lot of reward dollars that I am saving for a fall splurge. Some rewards were expiring this month so I placed a tiny order for the
Pack-of-two nonmedical face masks in Liberty® florals
Item AY552 in both colors. I have the Ros shirt so it will be fun to have a matching mask since it looks like we’ll be wearing them for a while. On a separate order I grabbed the Relaxed-fit linen crewneck sweater Item AY827 in black. I tried on in store and it runs big so I grabbed the xs. You can’t ever have enough black sweaters. I also picked up the Smocked neck puff-sleeve top in Liberty® Sea Blossoms Item BA884 BLUE MULTI in a size small. I haven’t tried that one on so I’m hoping it will work. I love that print. Hope everyone has a great long weekend.

  8. I placed an order this morning! It’s been a long time. I bought two waffle cotton shorts and two vintage cotton fleece pullovers for under $50. I already have waffle joggers and several pieces in the vintage cotton fleece. I wear them a lot and it looks like those collections are being discontinued. Looking at my J.Crew history, my last order was June 7 and it was $5. I’m doing great not shopping for clothes, but it’s easy when all my money is going for house renovations. 😭

    ReplyDelete
  9. I did not bite this morning. A few things in my cart, like the black camera bag, but still hoping it goes a little lower. Anything else from the summer I saved for later has been less previously and I don’t need it.

I got four pairs of jeans from g-star raw which I love so I’m not looking at pants or jeans except for maybe for hiking which I hope to do more of this fall. And I’ve ordered shoes from elsewhere too.

I’m also continuing to work on my house, home body I am, and I think that brings me more joy than clothes (or just as much!)

  10. Happy weekend! I received a large order today of items that I bought with the HelloFall promo and my teacher discount (surprisingly allowed to stack).

Returning: 1) lightweight puffer coat in dark nutmeg. Color is a little duller than I expected. The problem was the bottom of the jacket. Ran small in the hips compared to other coats in my size. 2) cotton cashmere cable mockneck sweater. I so wanted this to be a winner but failed to notice that it is cropped at 20”. It’s cut really wide too. Bad all around.

Keep: 1) oversized cashmere T-shirt. Love this so much! I sized up because I wanted drapey but exchanging for a size down. I won’t go smaller than that because I want this to drape. I got the natural color and it’s gorgeous. Will also buy the other colors. I really like that it’s short-sleeve as my job takes me all around town in and out of schools and I waffle between being overheated and cold. A topper over this cashmere will help me adjust quickly to various room temps.

Maybe: oversized cashmere wrap in deep rust. Lovely color. Super staticky so I don’t know. I would get a lot of use out of this but would have to be careful of what I wear with it to avoid extra static.

I stopped into my store a few days ago and noticed the Bristol blazer in hazelnut herringbone. Might be the most gorgeous blazer I’ve ever seen! Blazers aren’t great for me now with my shoulder issues but it will be hard to resist. Don’t know about fit but it’s a beauty!

  11. The best things I've bought from J Crew in the past weeks have been the Ribbed collared silk-blend sweater (Item AZ244) in weathered rose and one in black. I'm so very glad I bought them. It's hard to tell online how clothes will translate in person. It is a stunning top and very well made. Short sleeve and not too clingy & will be easy to layer as temps cool.

As other commenters have mentioned, my local brick & mortar shop didn't impress me much when I went a few days ago (before the big sale hit). Nothing inspired me.

I have been eyeing the Pull-on wide-leg chino pant but the online reviews seem mixed so I'm hesitating. I'm also not sure about the Cotton Cashmere Pullover Sweatshirt -- the sleeves seem a bit too gathered at the wrists and the underarm area too bat-wing looking (or is it just me)? I'd like a more traditional cut in that.

I did order a pair of hair scrunchies today (blue floral & stripe) that totaled $4! Great sale. Will make a nice little future gift. :)

  12. PS: I love this blog, it's delightful to hop on and see what my J Crew friends are wearing & their reviews. I am grateful and J Crew -- and Madewell to some degree -- are my favorite brands and go to's time and again. Thanks again for this wonderful blog!

  13. Friend purchased a pair of the Zoe Ballet Flats in her regular size in the dark green. They run wide at the heel and her foot was sliding out. Fabric is cheap cheap leather terrible very thin and coincidentally her large toe could be seen at the toe box just as I ha the same problem with the cashmere slippers which returned. She’s sent them back. I don’t believe the company will produce well made shoes anymore as they did years ago with the Cece and Kiki’s. A shame. They’re produced in Morocco and there is a drastic difference.

    1. Thanks for the Zoe review, Lynn, I was wondering about those. I am going to be inconsolable when my Made in Italy Ceces wear out as I don’t think there will ever be a replacement!

    2. @Ruffles, Did you stockpile any colors? I did and have plenty in all colors I haven’t even worn yet. You might try EBay at some point. For really well made ballet flats there is Repetto Made in France, and other Italian companies which make beautiful ballets flats in beautiful leather and suede and gorgeous colors. Mos ship free worldwide with free returns. Not all are expensive either. You do get what you pay for though with these companies. Trying to be helpful here so nobody goes Bankrupt buying shoes:)

    3. That's too bad. Dark green is such a gorgeous color in a shoe. I bought a green flat from J Crew a few years ago and quality was so atrocious that they allowed me to return even though it was FS. I said "this shoe is not J.Crew quality!"

    7. @Lynn, yes! I have backup pairs in Black and Pewter that I stockpiled back in the days when most JCAs knew what was coming. Looking back, there are so many pieces I wish I had bought duplicates of.

It’s very telling that J Crew items from 10 years ago are selling on eBay and elsewhere in amazingly good condition when what I have purchased in recent years barely survives one wash.

    8. I think I have the Evie in gold and can’t wear them. Not even as slippers. I should just donate them at this point.

I bought one of the camera bags from madewell (the woven one) with my birthday discount but I really like the sport version too. So I might splurge. There's a sweater vest from anthro I would like to get but I'm not sure what to get at jcrew!!

  15. I placed a biggish (for me) order. Six items!
    Printed twilly scrunchie Item: BB058
Gathered tank midi dress in lime cherry blossoms
    Item: BA936
    Pack-of-three scrunched nonmedical face masks
    Item: AZ806
Pack-of-two nonmedical face masks in Liberty® florals
    Item: AY552
    Cabana oversized sunglasses
    Item: H8908
    Classic Fit Shirt Item: AY659
    Color: ANNELIESE FLORAL

I'm debating on the cottage dress in the Annelise floral. It's $67. The fit is a disaster but the print is incredible. Wonder if it could be tailored?

  17. Hi all crazy week at work! But I been picking up few little things!

I can probably wear it with boots and tights in fall!
    2. These are wonderful Bootie socks three-pack
Item BB107, I order more this week for my daughter and me. They little over $4 for 3 pack! Good quality!
    3. Waffle drawstring short AY067 and sweatshirt AY066. I bought 2 sets for me last sale for $18 set! And ordered some for my daughter! They are super comfy! Look really nice for evening at home! Great to lounge or sleep! Fabric is nice and thick! They run very large i size down to xxs.

  18. I had an order arrive with the Pull-on straight-leg pant in Italian wool (Item BA517) in HTHR GREY MULTI. I wasn't sure about these with the elastic waist in back, but ordered these and the other color way. I like them. They are lined (poly) but are 96% wool/4% elastine and feel nice on. They should be good fall/spring work pants and the length comes just below my ankle. The front fastens so if you half-tuck you won't see the elastic in the back. I took an 8 which is about my size these days for skirts/pants.

  19. Alas, got the dreaded "Wish we had enough" email for the Baird McNutt linen dress. Will have to keep an eye out for the popback in flax (they have white in my size, but I will stain it in 5 seconds. Went out to dinner with my cousin last night and within 1 minute of the food ariving, my cousin asked why I bothered to wear white to dinner. I looked down and I was somehow flecked with specks of food).
