J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I like the Stretch-wool cable-knit crewneck sweater (Item BB408) but at $128, it's more than the cashmere crewneck and it's a blend. 🙁

    1. @MissJR, they justify the price by the cable knit details🤣

    2. @MissJR, That sweater in the color in the Chamois is pretty. I love a pretty yellow.

    3. That's actually the color I'm most interested in!

  2. Good morning everyone, relaxed oversized, and mostly muted colors continue. There are some Italian knit wool pull on pants BA 264 which are straight legged no belt loops. Silk patch pocket popover BB251 in oversized blue paisley, a new Ratti print in cotton BB284, Liberty print puffer and also blouses in cotton BA594 Tapestry Floral. There is a viscose Metallic chiffon ruffleneck top in paisley bunch
Item BB252. Summit parka in Italian stadium-cloth wool
Item BA541 This is all that I am adding at the moment. Overall sadly in my humble opinion not impressed.

    1. To clarify these were simply listed as what I saw online at the time. Not interested for myself

  3. The website was loading very slowly for me so hard to see everything.

Wide leg pleated wool pants in charcoal stripe were shown looking very long and loose on the cover page, styled with what looked to be a cashmere bandana worn as a strapless top, when I looked at the product page they are only 30” inseam. Too short for a full length pant! Especially one that costs $228. My old wide leg wool pants were about 34 inches which were long but ideal with high heels.

The new half zip Polartec of all things was added to my favorites, because the waist can be tightened.

Pleated leather pants have been on my wish list for awhile so I’m curious how this version is. To be honest I have tried many and it’s a difficult cut to wear in leather. Also a cropped inseam (26.5”).

Space dyed mockneck sweater, cute but acrylic and wool, no thanks.

    1. From the sale I ordered
Smocked neck puff-sleeve cotton poplin top
Item BB262in black and white. Black kept showing as out of stock so don’t know if it will ship.

      Also Reversible cotton bucket hat
      Item: BB111
      Color: BLACK PINE

    2. At last you got your hat! The topstitching is fun.

    3. Agreed! I don’t have a bucket hat.

  4. No order for me. These non-colors make my eyelids feel heavy. One of those beige/pinkish colors is called "luxury camel." I don't see much camel in that color, and it doesn't say luxury to me.

I still have the plaid wool Dalton topcoat on my wish list.

    1. @MmeJacqueline, many of those non colors as you mentioned appear more early spring like. I posted yesterday that my 20+ year cashmere coat which was a Max Mara is on its way out and I was hoping to see if Jcrew had anything of interest.
Not a thing. I will simply go to Max Mara and purchase another one and it will fit me. Hopefully this one will me for the rest of my life. The Dalton topcoat looks very nice. I really wonder what the quality is like especially with your high standards and expectations. Please keep us posted and have a wonderful day.

  5. I only like Low-heel suede ankle boots
Item BA555. Only like them because of grey color! But will wait for better sale!

    1. I also like them a lot! They're on my list.

    2. Haha good choice! They have not had any good grey shoes in long time! My last pair was probably suede Martina in grey!

  6. It’s always nice to see new stuff. I like a couple blazers (two tone Allie, Parke in pine), and I wanted to replace my Cocoon Coat so glad to see it back. The quilted leather lady day is something I may try on. Cute boots this rollout but I don’t need boots. Other than those, too much “slouch” for me and the pale, “warm” color palette is just not for my skin tone.

Suz, I do like the half zip Polartecs. I have a couple and you cant go wrong w those.

    1. Ruffles last year one of the versions was very short and boxy, I like that this one is longer and the waist can be adjusted. That’s a huge plus for me. I shouldn’t be excited about a fleece but it checks off all my boxes so why not?!

  7. I don’t see anything I need right now, but I did “like” a few items. There are some nice coats, but I don’t need another one.

The pressed flower t-shirt is cute. (BB670) I’ll probably pick it up when it goes on sale.

I like the foundry corduroy jumpsuit, but I suspect very few people will. I had a similar jumpsuit when I was in my late teens. I remember it fondly. I don’t think it will sell, so I can probably buy it on clearance.

I need to unpack the corduroy pants I bought on clearance last spring. I’m finally going to be able to wear them. I can hardly wait for sweater weather to arrive. It’s still in the 80s here.

  8. I didn't see anything I had to have but agree with above comment -the stretch wool cable knit sweater looks pretty (and fitted, not sloppy), but overpriced for now.
Had 2 final sale items in my cart but finally decided to not risk it. Too many final sale mistakes were made this Summer. I saved $80 by taking off the sale goggles, lol. I then spent the same amount at BR on some 50% off sale items and it is all returnable (and free return shipping). They had some interesting summer items on clearance, a linen/cotton robe that caught my eye, and some pima cotton tees.

  9. Agree with everyone’s thoughts and observations. Nothing a true need. Prices a bit steep compared to a few years ago. Also too many new blazer styles with reviews saying too oversized or too fitted. Still have Dalton topcoat in my wishlist.

    1. Has anyone noticed that Jcrew has another returns delivery center in North Carolina? I printed out a return shipping label for my girlfriend to use for my returns. One shipment was going to the PA center and the other Rural Hall, NC. a third party shipping receiver. Most likely for cost savings and logistics.

  10. Would love to hear thoughts on this - I’m thinking in black. Thanks!

    1. I look away when I see it's a many fiber blend. I've done ok with cotton+wool. So do think about that.

The black and ivory is nice. Back in the 1990's I had a before it's time sweater blazer with tipping that I wore out.

If that scarf is attached I could see it getting in the way if you ever wanted to wear it indoors.

    2. I agree with PBanos. The blend turns me off. I like the tipping and wish they showed it on a model untied. I can’t quite figure out how the tie neck would lie. The stock pics make it look cape-like.

    3. Thanks for your feedback. They do show a picture of the item without the scarf but the description of the item does not say the scarf is removable if that makes sense. Can provide more feedback once I get the item.

    4. Yes please do post a review!!

    5. I received my item over the weekend (I got the black/ivory version). Overall I am very happy and will be keeping it. It's definitely a coatigan/heavier sweater knit but have to say the quality was very good. The scarf is attached too as I originally thought it was removable but that's okay for me.

  11. Last year, I updated some of my wardrobe after a truly long time and got some good 'basics' like cardigans, joggers, winter coat, tees, and some other fun things from J. Crew. But now I'm disappointed in their selection. For fall, all I saw via email (and have not gone through all the products) were pastel-like colors and nothing that looked that interesting. I think of fall and rich colors. I'm surprised at the lack of ingenuity. I'm thankful for the items I got that I really really like but a little confused. Even in summer, the skirts were fairly boring and really heavy (in some instances I would have been happier without a lining and ended up cutting them out). I guess they're trying to make them year-round so they are heavier than needed for summer. If you go into a fabric store or search fabrics online, there are so many great options. I'm wondering what they are going for exactly ... I did not shop J. Crew years back other than once in awhile going into a store and not seeing things that were me at the time, so I probably 'missed' the hey days but I'm confused what they are doing now. Thanks for this site. Appreciate it.

    1. I think the colors are very unappealing. I sound like a broken record, but I also dislike elastic waists and all of the drapey, over-sized, and relaxed items that really just look downright sloppy to me.

I'm happy that I have my older items that are nicely tailored and made of good fabrics.
