"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not so much a vent...I have not had shipping problems (YET) with the few orders that I've placed, and with the exception of my price adjustment issue, I have not had problems with CS. I just want to know where all this inventory is coming from. Up and down throughout the week and some items are (re-)stocked in all sizes. Are they cleaning the stores out? Or cleaning out the warehouse corners? I can barely get to the P.O. (or anywhere else) to make a return so it can't all be returns to account for the increases in sale stock. I've asked this question "pre-COVID-19" but now, I really wonder where all this stock has been. Most stores that I've seen don't restock full run on sizes (please Madewell, I need those jeans and that travel bag that sold out last week!)

By the way, my sweater finally popped back and I quickly repurchased my size at the much better promo! Happily putting the other sweater in my "return" pile.

Not using my spring "pamphlet" code. Enjoy! $50 off $150 code available (no other code applicable): AXF-LG5DDQSQ69, Valid thru 4/21

    Have a safe day everyone!

    Have a pleasant day JCAs!

    1. JCrew shit down their distribution center a week or so ago because someone tested positive for coronavirus.

  2. New May arrivals should have rolled out on the website this week. Wonder where they are...

    1. There are a couple of new items but I think less than 10. I haven’t seen new arrivals at a lot of other retailers I shop at either: anthro, Kate spade. I’m a history teacher and now district administrator and just wrote a whole unit on the economic impact of covid. The supply chain is severely impacted right now. My guess is that is what is happening here. It will take a long time for the retail industry to recover and I wouldn’t be surprised if many retailers are starting to scale back their future orders based on current demand. I think we’ll see a really reduced selection of new things over the next year or so. One of the leading economic firms believes the retail industry won’t recover until the end of 2021 (and that’s if society returns to normal soon) and the luxury industry might be impact for years to come.

    4. it’s true. someone i know who works in logistics told me that businesses that sell nonessential items have canceled their summer orders. If you want to know which, just look at what major retailers have furloughed their employees.
Factories around the world have closed, and the ones reopening in China are not receiving new orders from retailers in the US and Europe. In order to have things to sell, someone has to be making them months before those items hit stores. Nothing being made now means nothing new coming for the next few months. Shop your closets everyone!

  3. It's not like we all need new clothing. We're all at home and likely will be for months to come. Anyone planning to go out to dinner even if they open things up? Travel? Visit a mall? Nope.nope.nope.

    1. I would probably go to dinner at my friend's restaurant if it was properly distanced between patrons.

  4. It's annoying how J.Crew is still charging $7.50 for return shipping fees when there are no stores opened. I've had to email them to ask a few times if they could waive the return shipping fees, and they've honored that. Madewell has free shipping and returns. How is Madewell able to provide that when J.Crew can't, and they're both from the same company?

  5. I just remembered I have a Boden $15 voucher I'm not going to use if anyone wants it. I'm pretty sure you can stack these with promo codes. It says at checkout to enter the voucher code in the grey "apply gift card" box. It expires April 18. The code is WXAQK4PH7E42. Please post here if you use it so no one wastes their time trying it. Hope someone can use it! I had my eye on just one dress at Boden, but after unpacking some of my summer stuff and ordering a few things at the crew, I'm definitely not needing any more dresses :o

    1. Thanks! I'd just been looking at some comfy shorts for my husband to wear WFH, and now we've ordered. It did stack with a promo code too. Now I won't be subject to him working in his boxers...

  6. I heard something interesting this afternoon from my VPS. A launch that was to have taken place this week is being pushed up to next week, the 22nd. They will be launching winter items as she said while viewing their previews. Not a good sign. I believe prices will be dropping even more in the coming days. Sadly, things are e looking very bad for
them. I’m praying they don’t go bust. I’m so missing the good old days and certain everyone here is as well. Hope you’re not suffering financial difficulties or health problems.

    1. new winter items? or reselling old winter inventory?

i think if they really cancelled their summer season, the best thing for them to do is go through their old inventory and sell it all. it’s been stacking up in the warehouses anyway so with no new inventory to sort, it would be a good time for them to go through everything and clean house. i bet they have enough old stuff to sell for a few months. they wouldn’t even need to take new product/model photos, they’d just have to go through their archives.

    2. I hope not new Winter items as they were already putting spring items out online. I was really looking forward to Chris Benz’ designs which I think jcrew needs to regain some strength. Does this mean that his summer line is canceled does anyone know?

I know that some retailers canceled summer inventory orders but I haven’t heard about jcrew.

    3. Just wanted to clarify again, this is what she told me about winter clothing line. She was quite surprised when she viewed the previews for release. She didn’t mention summer items.I have only posted what I was told by her. We will have to wait and see. Meanwhile I will be contacting her again to reconfirm and will post again. I was thinking perhaps there was a glitch in her system? Hoping for the best though whatever happens.

    4. This wouldn't surprise me re: skipping summer. I heard that Banana Republic is planning to do this and head right to fall/winter. Disappointing. I'm wondering how much "old" summer inventory J.Crew needs to clear out?

  8. Good news VPS was wrong about stating winter items were being released. Some very pretty spring and summer items launched this morning. Bad news website is intermittently glitchy.
