"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Did you know that if you spend your J. Crew reward points and decide to return the item you don't get the reward points credited back to your account? So basically anything you buy with reward points is a final sale even if it is a current item. What a crappy way to treat your loyal customers who stuck with you after the Black Friday fiasco and stock outs through the holidays. I found this out when I went to return an Icon Trench coat and discovered that I would only get $2.23 refunded. I called to find out how to get my reward points credited back and was told it would not happen.

    1. Yes, it has been that way all along. When I still had a local store, the manager would help me with a return that had rewards if I were doing an exchange or making a new purchase at the same time. But my store is closed now...so yes, I only use rewards on anything I am totally sure I will be keeping. Still have issues if you order an item and get a subsequent out-of-stock notice or if the shipment is lost or damaged. The safest place to use those rewards dollars is in-store.

    2. Yep, I got burned by this once too.

    3. Burned a few times too with that. Even "argued" with a cashier about how dumb that was. Some reward. In all of the cases, I seriously just wanted a different size but couldn't exchange it in store so I lost it by reordering.

    4. Yup also had this happen to me a few times. I complained to my VPS once and she gave it back to me in the form of an e-gift card, but all the other times I forfeited the rewards once I returned the items. I agree it's unfair, especially to loyal customers. Nowadays I rarely buy from a store because sizes are never in stock, which makes it even more difficult to use rewards.

    5. This is why I have never used my rewards. Horrible.

    6. I also haven't used my rewards yet. That's a terrible way of "rewarding" loyal customers. Didn't the Gap companies get sued over this? I know when I use my rewards at Gap/BR, if I return something, the points go back on my account.

    7. It's basically a one time use coupon and it's not real money, so you can't just return and re-buy something if it doesn't workout.

    8. The points should go back to your account tho... Like with gap. So I might not be able to use them right away but I will be able to use them eventually.

Otherwise, what's the point? I'll take a regular coupon and save myself the headache of figuring out the points system.

  2. Here’s a 15% off coupon that can be stacked from RetailMeNot.
