I tried a LOT this year, and am kind of surprised how little I ended up with when it was all said and done. Hope 2016's a better year for JC!

    1. Nice list and idea! I was thinking of those shoes for my 4 yr old son do they run true to size? He's been wearing Pumas which he loves I know they run small but I've never tried new balance. Thank u

    2. Hi jan - my almost 4 year old is an 8-8.5 and I sized up to the 9 for the New Balances and they fit great. They have elastic on both sides of the tongue to keep it in place, which I like. My little one is a toe scuffer so I lean toward the ones with leather toes instead of suede ones and they've held up pretty well.

Just realize I bought 23 items for the year, excluding undies but including all accessories (inc. tights and socks!!!), tees and workout gear. I purchased no outerwear, jeans or purses at all for 2015.

  6. I found lots to love at J. Crew this year. Lady Day Coats remain a favorite and staple for me as so the Tippi sweater (love the updated style). I had only purchased maybe 3 pairs of J. Crew shoes before this year but I was ready to invest a little more in shoes this year and I found myself loving many of the styles this year.

  11. Fun thread! My fave JC score for the year was the black schoolboy for $50 during one of those wild promos this past summer. Top Madewell pick is the black mockneck top, now final sale but a great deal at $24. My 2016 resolutions should probably include buying less black. :)

  12. let's see:
    Collection Ludlow Plaid Blazer
    Rhodes Puppytooth Blazer
    Very metallic lame blouse
St James multi-striped shirt (heh heh, they forgot to hide this when they put on a 40% off everything promo!)
Italian wool two-tier dress - black
Italian wool two-tier dress - aubergine
    "Military" trench
    Ikat cotton Regent "blazer"
    assorted painter tees
    some Campbell trousers
    no shoes
    no bags
    no coats

I note that with many JC pieces, it's a little like buying ingredients. Noone sits down to snack on a sack of flour, but we all love cookies. And if the cookies need a little help, we drizzle on some melted dark chocolate. Thus, for instance, the Rhodes blazer was a disaster on me until I figured out that it's a shrunken version of the Schoolboy. I bought a Tall and sized up. It fits my 5'4 perfectly. Similarly, the Military Trench isn't a raincoat or anything like water-resistant - it's a long unlined lightweight cotton jacket. In that capacity, I love it. Trying many sizes in the Ikat jacket was a spring-into-summer project.

  15. I'd never paid attention to J.Crew's jeans before but thanks to all of your recommendations I picked up the vintage crops at the end of the summer and loved them. I also bought a pair of matchstick jeans that really grew on me this fall.
Otherwise, the J.Crew items I kept this year were Tippis in camel and gray, the black/blush silk cap-sleeve blouse for work, the abstract fair isle cardigan, and the contrast floral lace skirt. I hope J.Crew improves its offerings for jewelry and shoes next year -- haven't bought either of those categories from them in ages.

  16. Very cool reading what everyone loved this year.

#1. 75% off sale this summer + being able to stack educator discount.

As for purchases, here are my favs:

-Collection cashmere open cardigan, double serge wool pencil skirt and collection cashmere wrap in heather acorn. Finally, filled a "hole."
    -Leather panel dress in black
    -Embroidered Satin Mary Janes
    -Collection sleeveless leather jumpsuit
    -Strappy chambray midi dress
-Banago cluth and Bantu Wax swimwear
    -Neon tassel earrings
    -Silk camis in multiple colors
-Collection cashmere swing sweaters in navy and grey
    -Saturday pants in navy
    -Donald Robertson Kiss Kiss Tee

Just completed a purge & inventory. Will be shopping in 2016, but looking for specific items to add and replace. Spring/summer trends look to be fun.

Wishing everyone a safe & happy NYE!

  17. It's interesting that there isn't a lot of duplication between all of our lists. I can't pick out any one thing J. Crew did in 2015 that was an obvious slam dunk across the board.

    1. Hi cate, I was thinking that too. Some years I think a lot of us would've had some duplicate items. Here's hoping that the spring and summer rollouts will be exciting!

    2. Honestly I think that's a good thing. I don't mind if someone knows or recognizes I'm wearing a certain brand, but I don't want to feel like a clone.

    3. Jessica, I agree! Jan, I noticed that almost all of what I bought and kept was from the second half of 2015. Hopefully that means they are on the upswing!

  23. I had fun going through my 2015 outfits on Instagram to pull this list together. While I had several new purchase loves this year, I also had some good luck finding older items on eBay.

Here are my favorites from 2015, in no particular order:
Dutch Floral Pants (these came out in 2014 but I didn't purchase until early 2015 so I'm counting them)
    Structured zip knit dress
    Contrast floral lace skirt
    Factory short sleeve basketweave dress
    Midnight floral cocoon top
Sleeveless silk shell in Aquatic Floral
    Iced Quartz Necklace/Bracelet

  25. Fun to read what everybody loved in 2915. I am probably forgetting something but these are my fave:

    Leopard collarless blouse
The infamous pull-on pleated pants (I just love these)
    Chunky cashmere turtleneck in espresso
Circle skirt in Japanese lace (bought at the sample sale but came out in stores probably in January so I am counting it).

    Happy New Years everyone!

  26. Silver_lining this was an awesome idea. Fun to read everyone's favorite items. So here are mine.
    Jcrew 2015 favorites
    Micropleated midi skirt (olive/navy)
Excursion Vest ( Love these green, gray flannel, fair isle)
    JCrew boy shirt in flannel/plaid
Frankie tumbled leather ankle booties(surprise love)
    Chelesa rain boots in leopard/black
    Lookout cords
    Toothpick cords (navy/green)
Toothpick cone denim in selvedge dark Hulton (love so much got a back up pair)
Classic vneck cardigan ( the one without pockets in
    gray/black/tan)
Drapey long sleeve t-shirt ( great basic pick up in multiple solids and stripes)
    Sloans flats
    Pleated midi in mini dot
    Glitter ankle stripes ballet flat

A lot to love. But I feel like this year I plug a lot of holes in my closet with some key pieces. I doubt I will do a great deal of shopping in 2016 ( if I pick things up it will most likely only be to replace something that is worn out).

    Replies
    1. I also think I love the Frankie boots. I didn't want to add them to my list since I've had them for five seconds and quality is a part of being a fave, but I'm pretty sure I'll love them.

  27. I barely remember what I bought from spring/summer...but for fall I really love:

    Collection moto jacket in navy
    Merino midi skirt in navy
    Saint James stripe beanie
Madewell Grey merino sweater w/ matching skirt

    ReplyDelete
  28. After plenty of trial and error, I'm happy with the sweaters I've gotten over the past two months. Time will tell, but quality seems to be better than last year.
Wool back zip, beaded shoulder with back zip, classic turtleneck in wool cashmere blend, shrunken merino turtleneck.
My other faves: some great jeans--Rayner, Point sur teddy buckle back and cropped in Darwin wash.
Shorts: the linen tassel shorts were a late summer fave. I also loved the pleated linen shorts with lace trim, and the linen skort in flax.
And of course my fall/winter challenge which was to find great black pants. Happy with my three: full length pant in bi stretch wool, patio pant in wool with leather tux stripe and full length wide leg pant in wool.
FWIW, I had to size up on almost everything from previous years (besides the jeans!) and my size hasn't changed.
Oh...and maybe my most favorite item: Glitter Elsies!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will say the following...from fall/winter
    Collins Tortoise loafers
    Calf hair sloans
    Black chateau parka
I have many more but would take too long to post. The clearance store is my very favorite thing.
