J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. TUESDAY gets 40% off getaway picks. Boardwalk skirts & A-line ponte dress are cheaper in-store + 40%. The rugby-stripe tank dress (review) is $29.99 in-store + 40%.

  2. It seems like JCrew's shipping logistics have drastically improved! I placed an order on the 29th, received a shipping notification on the 1st and got my package today. Impressive.

The two tees that I ordered were a little underwhelming...despite the prompt shipping.

    Saint James® for J.Crew three-quarter sleeve tee - XS
The highish neck and short boxy fit are meh, bordering on booooo. The sleeves are a nice slim fit and the cotton feels silky. I washed and dried this with some minimal shrinking. (Sorry, I can't babysit my tees or defend them from my husband's laundry skills - they have to be able to go through the dryer)

    Elbow-sleeve tee in stripe - S
Thin, unimpressive cotton. Extremely boxy fit and somewhat short. If I can wear this shirt 5 times without something going seriously awry (holes, stretching, shrinking, etc) I'll be happy. Also, the rolled detail at the elbow is annoying - why not finish the edge?

These weren't the long-lasting classics I was hoping for...if only Everlane made striped shirts...

    1. I completely agree with you about the Saint James tee, Bibliophiliac! It was so boxy and SO "meh," but I ended up keeping mine, since I was too lazy to ship it back. If I had paid full price, I would have returned it back immediately!

  3. In case anybody is wondering about the linen beaded sweater or the factory elbow-sleeve sweater, see HERE.

  4. Can anyone comment on the fit of the silk keyhole top? The stripe version in "brilliant blue" is tempting, but I'm hesitant to order now that it's final sale. TIA!

  5. Loving the Madewell Painted Birds Scarf - lightweight silk-cotton is so much nicer than rayon next to the skin in summer, and the light-hearted design makes me smile.

  8. A couple reviews of things I've worn recently on my blog:

    1. Downtown field jacket in navy (I wore it here: Expensive, but I think this is a classic piece I will wear for years to come. The material is thick and durable and the gold buttons look great with the navy. I like the fit too, I got my normal medium and it wasn't too boxy or short.

    2. Linen baseball sweater in white/natural (I wore it here): I'm surprised to see this popped back in most sizes since it was backordered for a while when I ordered it at the end of May. This may be my favorite J. Crew piece in my wardrobe right now. It's so versatile and comfy. I got my normal medium in this also, it has a looser fit but I like that. It is a little sheer but I don't mind wearing a cami underneath.

    3. Translucent flower necklace (I wore it here): I fell in love with the crystal version after I saw it styled in the store over a button-up with a cute pencil skirt. This is actually my first retail store necklace; they are usually too pricey for me but I thought this one was more reasonable at $55. I liked this so much that I also picked up the mauve version during the sale.

Also a side note that I was in the Factory store last week and they had a version of the swiss dot top from last year in both ivory and dublin green! It looked like an exact replica.

    1. I agree about the Linen Baseball Sweater! I bought the navy/white one and it is such a great top for cooler/rainy summer weather. The body is so soft and cozy with the little slub yarns, and the slight sheerness of the sleeves really lets your arms breathe. Like you, I bought the medium and it is pretty roomy, but I preferred it that way and decided not to size down.

  9. Can anybody comment on swimwear sizing? How do their cup sizes compare to regular bra sizes?

    1. I find that the tops that come in bra sizes fit true to size. I have to say that I really love J Crew's bathing suits, especially when you can the pieces on sale.

    2. Thanks sabree84, in the past I found D tops bigger than say Victoria Secret, I was wondering if that changed.

  10. Does anyone have a review of the silk flutter top either solid or geo dot? thanks- like the look of the top but hate final sale so wanted to read reviews before possible purchase. thanks so much!

    1. I bought 2 flutter tops: one in navy and the other in blue geo dot. Very pretty on, true to size, and a light weight silk, good for hot summer days or under a cardi or light jacket. I plan to wear the navy one with the Maritime blazer in navy/white and the geo dot one with white jeans or Cafe Capris.

    2. Ditto @dianespainting. I bought the navy and blue geo dot as well and have been wearing them all the time. Took my usual size 8 and they both fit tts.

  12. I ordered both colors of the Silk Colorblock Cami during one of the recent promotions. I'm usually a 6 in J.Crew tops and a 4/6 in their dresses, and took both colors of the cami in a medium. It's a very nice lightweight silk! The indigo version is fine without anything beneath, though there will be some peeking at the bra on the side. The ice color however is a little sheer. I wore the latter recently for EA's Reader Outfits, see it down at the bottom of this post.

This version of the cami fits the same as last winter's version. Size down.

  13. I just got the graphic dot underwire tank size 0 in deep violet 26.99 after promo and the punk floral bandeau top xs/punk floral teeny hipster xs both 14.99 after promo in the mail. They look like great suits can't wait to try on the one piece since I have never owned one before. My only complaint is that my punk floral top only came with 1 strap which I guess happens when you order final sale. I probably would've worn it without the straps anyway. Can't beat the price. Also, I only buy J.Crew swimwear but never at fp.

  14. I picked up the Carrie Dress in Hawaiian Sunset this weekend. It was cheaper online, but my store matched the price and with the extra 40% it came to $59.99, which I feel is a good price for this dress. It’s a sturdy linen/cotton blend. My skirt size is usually a 4, but I had to size down to a 2 as the dress has a boxier fit and I’m smaller up top. The length was good – shorter, but not revealing. I’m 5’6. I wore the Capri sandals and a denim jacket and it was perfect for a summer date night! I wasn’t sure about the print but it is super adorable and in prettiest shades of blue.
Oh, and I added some JCA favorites to the Looking to Sell post very late last night....take a look.

    1. Tiffany q I also went down to a 2 in this dress. I wear a 4 in pencils. 4 in Jules, 4 in boy shirts and cafe capris and a 6 in perfect shirts. I really like this dress now that I have figured out the proper size and have the Carrie big dot dress on my list now. Those of you that have both do you think the big dot and Hawaiian dress fit the same?

  15. I just rec'd the factory ponte pants (factory version of pixies). Can anyone say whether they stretch and where--waist, hips, knees? Thanks.

    1. CC, I've worn my factory pixies for a couple of months now and haven't had any problems with baggy knees, saggy butt, etc. In fact, I made my purchase in part based on other JCA comments that the factory version holds up quite well. HTH!

  16. I have pics and styling ideas for three things I've picked up on this super sale: the sailboat tee, which fits TTS and is very cute, if you can find one; the factory polka dot popover in naples blue, which I find to fit very well--not blocky at all, but I generally buy for my bust; and the St. James Three-Quarter Sleeve Tee in Navy Persimmon, which I found to fit just fine on my 5'4" frame, but taller people may find to be too short.

  17. Stopped by my B&M today, there were a few new sweaters out--an embroidered tippi and a cute chevron sweater.

  19. Wednesday's promo is up. 40 off final sale with WEDNESDAY. I guess they weren't very inspired for hump day. lol It would've been nice to see free shipping no min or free ship with a lower threshold, like $100.

    2. Ummm...50% off final sale would actually have been a "real" surprise. Sorry, but I think Wednesday's promo is kind of dumb. :)

  20. Does anyone have J.Crew iPhone 5 case? Just wondering anyone can speak to how it holds up.

I tend to drop my phone occasionally, and when I do, it's not a small fall. I have been using the Otterbox Commuter case or the Speck CandyShell.

    1. I have the iphone case. Been using it about 6 months. The case has held up well. No damage to my phone with several drops in that time. I would describe it as a protective cover. It is not an Otterbox. Looks nice and increases the size of the phone minimally.

  21. The mid-month launch pieces are up on the website. I like the Tartine satchel and am glad they came out with a pebbled version. Yay for durable leather.

  22. I just returned the lemlem® Hilansha smock shirt, even though I got it for a decent sale price recently with the 40% off & my educator discount. The color of the blue is really lovely, but I was expecting the cotton to be as soft as it was on the Hilansha patio dress, and it wasn't. Plus the neckline and body were both super-wide, yet the arms were tight, so sadly it went back. I had returned the patio dress a month or so ago because the size small was too large, and the length didn't work on me. I had considered having it altered like I did the Lucy patio dress from a couple years ago, but it would have messed up the pattern on the bottom of the dress, so I decided to return it instead. I do like the lemlem® pieces when I can get them on sale, but so far have not had any luck with the latest releases.
