"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Style40 gets you 40% off sale and free shipping today! If you act fast the precious promo prices are still in effect. Navy schoolboy was $99 less 40% + free shipping :)

    1. I meant previous but I guess that price was precious also. Darn autocorrect!

    2. Wow! Got a black tippi, Blythe blouse and the chambray popover for $99 and free shipping! Def a "precious" promo! =)

    3. No vents here either. I managed to place an order in the Twilight Zone last night and snagged the scalloped linen jacket and skirt for $110. Not bad. The Tippis were an amazing deal!

    4. As an afterthought, I should have grabbed a few more tippis. Meh. Prob best that I didn't.

  2. I'm really confused about the pricing on J.Crew's website - I know the Navy Schoolboy was $99 this morning, but it's now $138. Similarly, the Collection Icon Trench was $199, but is now $218. I think the price change happened around the time of the refresh - sometime around 7:30 AM EST?

I got some really great deals with the extra 40% off, but really, J.Crew?

    1. Those items were part of the 'instant gratification sale' that technically ended last night. I'm actually surprised they went on promo and not back to full price, but I know it's frustrating not being sure when you will get the best price...

    1. Thanks for the link. Exactly why I am buying so little from JCrew as the years have passed....bought a lot from 2002-2009 and since then...much less...

  4. Just popped in to the website and noticed the new wool pencil skirts are out- looks like they didn't learn from the crappy sales of the new cut introduced last fall. I'm sad that I won't be able to add any new skirts to my collection. Oh well, the colours are pretty sad and limited too! :(

  5. Vanity sizing. J. Crew, I understand that I am quite petite (5'1), and that there will be fewer offerings for me. That's all well and good, because your cafe capris and skimmer pants actually fit perfectly length-wise.

However, I am not a size 0 model. I am also not a size 00 model. So why, oh why, do your size 0 pants look like I borrowed them from my boyfriend, and the size 00 are still too big?! Even petites are too big on the waist though they are relatively OK on the legs. Yes, I'm slender, but I'm not THAT skinny.

I have mostly resorted to crewcuts (!) for my purchases, which isn't entirely a bad thing, but when I'm looking for work clothes at J. Crew it gets frustrating. I want to be taken seriously, not look like I'm playing dress-up with my mommy's clothes. :(

  6. J.Crew/factory pricing is really aggravating me lately. I ordered the puffer vest from factory at 30% off and a couple of other items. Now the entire store is 40% off! Including new fall arrivals. I looked online and it was 58.00, I paid 68. So I decided to take a trip to factory(10 mins away) to repurchase for 58 - the teacher discount. When I got there the vest was no where to be found! Looked online and it was also no where to be found! Sorry, just venting.
