Holiday Sale is Back at J.Crew {yeah!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta & Irina, who shared the following update this morning.

J.Crew has brought back their Holiday Sale (click here to shop online). Many JCAs predicted the "Final Sale" would be removed for the holidays and here it is! Oh J.Crew, how you keep us on our toes! ;)
Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get? Does your local B&M have "holiday sale" as well?

  1. At first glance nothing new has been added... maybe tomorrow? My B&M said they'd be getting the first of the holiday arrivals tomorrow (PJ pants, warm weather accessories, glitter/sparkle, etc).

  3. looking forward to some new sale items

  4. I am wondering if they have changed the return policy for the holidays, as other retailers do. Otherwise I don't see the reason to change the fall sale into a holiday sale. Those of you who place an order today please let the rest of us know.

  5. Looking forward to seeing sparkle and glitter! (delicate cough)

  6. No update to the sale section this morning...just the name change.

  7. I have Christmas shopping to do:) and so I won't be buying an JCrew for gifts nor myself until after the new year. I have plenty of JCrew to get me through the party season:)from sales last winter.

I remember reading on another post that several people were told in store by a SA's that the sale policy will not be changing for the holidays.

  8. PS

I meant the return policy when I said sale policy.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If JCrew does't change their return policy for the holidays then I won't be buying there.

  10. There are a handful of new items that have been added to the sale section so it's not just a name change. I mean it mostly is :) but not totally.

  11. THEY AREN'T CHANGING THE RETURN POLICY!?!? Do they know how shortsighted this is!? Whose idea was this?! No, definitely not buying gifts when the return picy will have expired before they are given.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Even Lululemon changes their return policy for the holidays, and they have one of the shortest I've ever seen (14 days normally).

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nothing new added to the Holiday Sale but a few items were removed and bumped back up to their original price.

  14. Lots of new sweaters now on sale. Am interested in the Dream Solange cardigan and the Dream tipped chalet cardigan, both are thicker 3 gauge knit. Anyone have these items? Are they true to size? Good quality? I don't mind the dream yarn so much when it's thicker knit, I just want to be warm.

  15. I think they just changed the name on the sale to holiday for the season. Since JCrew has been so secretive and never announcing their new return policy nor putting it on the back of receipts I doubt they will change it for the holidays...if they do maybe one would have to directly speak with a store manager to get approval to return a gift???? Who knows??? JCrew is so inconsistent but worht a shot come Dec. 26th if you get a JCrew gift that doesn't work for you.

  16. I think they will make exceptions for people in store with returns

  17. So funny, I told my husband that I had been watching some items but they went up in price and he went "what?" He could not fathom that the prices go up and down like that.

These days I have to look at the items based on value. With the quality as it is, I buy on sale or promotion. This promo caught me at a time when I couldn't buy much which is fine, but I have to wonder what their sales look like when a promotion ends. Do the next three days sound like crickets so they do another promo?

  18. Dinster=-I bought and returned the Dream Solange sweater when it first came out. I did a review here:

    http://hollylovescrew.blogspot.com/2010/09/review-dream-solange-cardigan.html

One thing to be aware of is that the button holes are not finished; meaning they didn't sew them so they are reinforced. The holes are just basically holes in the yarn; sort of like make your own button hole. Hope that makes sense. Otherwise it's a warm sweater. I'm petite and felt it was too long for what I was anticipating. It covered my bum. I just didn't like that on a sweater that is "bulky." It was too much for my frame.

  19. I spoke to a manager and he assured me that they will be extending their return policy for the holiday season. He said it will go back to normal sometime in January or February.

  20. Mrs. O wore the lace tee in India while playing hopscotch with kids. I swear all the colors were on sale until she wore it, then her color and one other went back up to full price.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fidele - I purchased the lace tee last week with the 25% promo, the only color at that time that was on sale was the cobblestone. I don't recall the other two colors being on sale at all, otherwise I would have ordered the black as well.

  22. Hey ladies, just for thought, how about getting gift receipt along with your purchases so that you are at least covered to get store credit? I mean it's ridiculous that they are not even allowing a store credit past the 30 days.
Oh, I'm so not biting on this new "Holiday Sale."
Bring on the extra 30% off plus free shipping, JC.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gift receipts are not allowed on sale items FYI!

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's so funny how J.Crew will come up with new ways to stick us with their garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  25. ^jcrewlove-I believe you work at J Crew, correct? So you would know for certain about policy. And "no gift receipt for sale items" is one of most ridiculous I have heard, thus far! Good luck with that J Crew (and I feel very sorry for the SA's dealing with ticked off people either at the point of sale that are told "no gift receipts for sale items" or the recipients who simply try to make that sale return and find they have no recourse but to eat it...for dinner;) "Honey, tonight we are having a dream knit cardigan, heavily sauced. Don't worry..it was done in the crock-pot so it should be less tough than your lambswool cardigan, was." =)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sweetsy- correct. I agree I was pretty shocked by it all myself personally!!! Gift receipts can only given on full price items!

If you try to return a sale gift however I suppose they could do the one time exception however it would ring up at the sale price at that time then... If that makes sense??

    ReplyDelete
  27. What a joke. No way without a percent off. Those prices are insane for disposable clothing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No gift receipt on sale merchandise? I also feel bad for those SAs, they are going to be beat on a lot this year for a policy they didn't create (and probably don't agree with) but have to follow. It makes no sense given that most of the merchandise is marked down by mid-December each year. Maybe they aren't planning to have good pre-holiday sales this year?

I guess they must really feel like people were abusing their policy to make it so strict.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lol @ sweetsy.

This company keeps coming up with ways to alienate me. Crappy quality, overpricing, and now this. Last year (possibly the year before; who can remember) I bought several pairs of marked-down cashmere fingerless gloves as stocking stuffers... but I included gift receipts tucked into them in case people wanted a different color or didn't want them at all. So now that wouldn't be possible = now I won't be buying any gifts at J.Crew.

    Bah humbug!

    ReplyDelete
  30. JCrew just shot themselves in the foot not allowing gift receipts on sale items. People will either not buy the item for a gift once they find out or they will have many disgruntled returns. Not good customer relations on their part. Obviously, they don't care however.

  31. I noticed that the Glisten necklace went down in price today- it was $59.99 now down to $39.99 and now sold out in one color. If you haven't seen this necklace it is really pretty.

  32. No gift receipt on sale items? seriously?? wow, that's outrageous for a national mall retailer.

Today is my third day wearing the arrow sweater. While I truly love this sweater for its fit and warmth, there are big pills down the inner arm and torso.

    ReplyDelete
  33. dinster -
which color is your arrow? I've worn my heather charcoal one a bunch and had no pilling so far. I'm getting the heather caramel in an order tomorrow - should I be worried about that one?

  34. When did it switch back to Final Sale last year, was it December 26?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Does anyone besides me ever wonder whether Dear Leader would prefer that we just sent the checks and didn't bother about the merch? So much more efficient, no having to ignore complaints about late shipments, pulls, pills, runs, seams, returns, inconsistent pricing…

And when shopping at a B&M, does anyone else ever get that same wobbly feeling as when you run into an old boyfriend who has Definitely.Not.Done.Well and may even be about to ask for a loan… you wonder, why am I here? Wasn't he cute? Wasn't he funny? Didn't he have hair? Or worse: when you run into the guy who wrote great dialogue for Sorkin and now he's in venture capital…..

Well, it's not the same JC, not the same receptive atmosphere, not the same alluring catalogs. Not even close. It's a club with no address, and the guy at the door can't find me on the list. Cold Christmas this year. Find me on EHarmony looking to meet a well-dressed elf (with a user-friendly return policy and an environmentally friendly made-in-US sled).

  36. Please pardon me if this has already been posted, has anyone else received the Holiday edition of "the Thread"? I just got it today so may be late to the party.

Hold on to your wallets Canadian JCAs, there is a little blurb on the bottom of page two that says the first-ever J.Crew store in Toronto is opening in 2011. Whoo-hoo! Could the rest of Canada be far behind?! I hope not. Yay, I am so excited!

    ReplyDelete
  37. @jcrewlove: may I ask when this "no gift receipts on sale items" took in effect? I bought some sale scarfs last week and was able to get 5 gift receipts for all five of them. Or do you mean that even with a gift receipt I need to make the return within the 30 day window period to get the original payment amount and that past that window frame I will be getting the "current" selling price?
Since you are an "insider" could you explain better what the real "written" policy is? Thanks!

    @sweetsy: LOL! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ok, so I asked about the holiday return policy today while making a return at the Collection store. Store policy: you will be able to exchange merchandise bought between November 1st and Xmas until January (not sure about the day) BUT only if you have a gift receipt. Your regular receipt won't give you the extention. Kind of makes sense but when buying presents for the immediate family I normaly don't think about asking a gift receipt. Anyway, better then nothing. I bought a gift for a girlfriend today (before asking about the policy) and the gift receipt doesn't mention anything. HTH!

  39. @ ajr, I have the green arrow. I still love it, I just wish it didn't pill so quickly. Ah well, I'll put on some Mad Men and de-pill while swooning at Don Draper.

    ReplyDelete
  40. WFF, love your point about just sending Dear Leader my monthly check! On my second time wearing the black pine Infinity cardigan, it has started to pill all the way up the arms. Sigh. But as long as JC got their 'payment', what do they care if the merch holds up - there's gonna be a new rollout in <2 weeks anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with Silver Lining - I don't see much new stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jcrewphd- that is fantastic news! Hopefully the info I got was incorrect! Congrats on your items :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. My ps mentioned that JC is going to be offering international shipping. No idea how much that's going to cost or when it will begin. I told him that it was probably going to be outrageous since US shipping is so high. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. xoxo- there's been talk of the mother ship landing here in 2011 for some time now.

I have mixed feelings about this- since my shopping time is limited and frankly J.C. has not left me with the warm fuzzies in quite some time.

I do wonder though if it'll make an appearance @ Don Mills, Yorkville or even Yorkdale..

    ReplyDelete
  45. urban chaos, I've read the buzz for a while too, but this is the first time I have actually seen it confirmed directly by J.Crew. The copy reads, "Calling all Canucks. We're opening our first-ever J.Crew store in Toronto in 2011. Details are still being ironed out, but we'll be sure to keep you posted."

I'm on the other end of the country and hope they make their way out west as well. I haven't had as many warm fuzzies with J.Crew of late either and would really like the opportunity to try and see the items IRL and hopefully be able to make returns at a B&M to avoid the shipping expense and hassle of packing it up and dragging it to the post office or UPS store. For that, I am excited.

  46. XOXO: the FS switched back around the 23rd/24th last year. I recall being quite surprised it happened before Xmas. If I remember correctly, they switched over to FS on the day after the last day for guaranteed XMAS delivery.

  47. I wonder if the Canadian store will arrive with 'complimentary' 20% mark up Canadian pricing as well..

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm torn about the bit of news JC is opening up a B&M in Canada. I can assure you, they will follow similar pricing policies as BR, Gap, Eddie Bauer and any other American chains. Which is to mark up 20-35% on every item that is sold here north of the 49th parallel. And if they do "in Canada" shipping like Gap/BR and EB, those prices will stick when you load your cart up and hit "ship" to Canuck land. Since I've discovered the Canada Post work around (UPS/Fedex you suck), I've been paying only about 15% duty on my shipments. Sigh. Not a real win in my mind.

  49. I'm a bit confused about the "no gift receipt on sale items"...

On Saturday I purchased a men's shirt on sale. The SA boxed up my purchase, stuck the gift receipt in an envelope, and tied a ribbon around the whole thing.

Perhaps this is a policy being implemented by only some stores?

  50. Off topic: An article in December Elle Magazine (Pg 138) states that J. Crew is coming out with a collection called "769". "There's something to wear to every kind of event," says the head of wedding design, Tom Mora. With jacquard skirts ($395), sequined harem pants ($650)...the idea is to rethink formalwear by mixing glittery separates with utilitarian staples. "It's the J. Crew girl turned up a notch - things are a little more sparkley, the necklines are deeper, the trains are longer," says Jena Lyons... The collection will be carried exclusively at the 769 Madison Ave. store. (Sorry I don't have time this morning to scan the whole article)...

  51. I cannot believe the Holiday 2010 collection so far, I see no color in dresses. The Jillian dress I like, is in of course surprise surprise black and gray (yawn)! nd LAVENDER?? In December?? And Jenna with her "borrowed from the boys/military mantra" we have khaki a well.. I terribly miss Holiday 2007. I wish..

  52. Anyone bought the Calista cami? I just got it in the mail today. You know how it looks all nice on the picture, but what I received is all flat and lifeless. Do I just have to put through dry clean or the washing machine? Please advice...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Piccione: The hem on my Calista cami fell out on one side before I even had a chance to wear it. Now I've got to return it. Boo, J. Crew! This is the THIRD cami that I've had a problem with. I don't know what kind of thread they're using, but it's cheap and useless. Sorry I can't help with advice on the ruffles. Pretty sure it is dry clean only, but maybe you could steam it?

  54. The Northern Lights Necklace was marked down to $39.99 this morning so I finally ordered. My store never got it in, so I've been waiting for it to get a decent markdown online before getting it. The sold out gunmetal color also popped back this morning so I was able to get both colors to see which one I like the best (maybe both). I just got my email a few minutes ago that they have shipped, too. YAY!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Closet Crisis, I think that you are absolutely correct about the Canuck pricing policies. I hope that they will not change the pricing structure on the web site.
It will definitely drastically cut on my spending with Crew if that happens......my husband will be so happy.
